I actually met Ushka and her parents last month in Sendai while collecting stamps from the station! 😂 But I was too star-struck to ask anything about Sharla and their renovations 😭 But she was so friendly and even asked me about my vacation!! Honestly, Ushka rules 🙌

So awesome to see the house tour - we were Ushka’s friends who were the first to stay here! We absolutely loved it and can’t wait to come back one day! The neighbourhood is really great and soo quiet too. Lots of people saying hello and good morning when we were walking around which was lovely.
Also can second that Gōtokuji Temple is amazing and the eki stanpu at Gōtokuji Station is the best one ever!

Seriously this is such a cat lady, elegant, relaxing, Japanese vibe. I love it so much! You guys should have your own interior design company lol. Both inns have such a different feel and you both knocked them out of the park.
Beautiful job! Suggestion: perhaps put a tray next to the bathroom sink so people aren't too frustrated at their toothbrush or mascara falling through the slats.

Hey Sharla, looks amazing. One trick for the dirty grout between the tiles. Believe it or not, plain white vinegar undiluted sprayed on the grout and let sit for 15-20 minutes will get that grime right out. Seriously, Clorox won’t work but vinegar will. I didn’t believe it until I tried it and it was epic. Just don’t mix the vinegar with the Clorox as I believe the fumes can be dangerous.

The vinegar works but it is still a lot of physical labor. Try using a scrubber attached to a drill. That's what I did makes the work faster.
I might try this with the shower tiles later.
It's possible that the outside grout isn't dirty, but just that colour. The grout used on my bathroom floor was grey. :-)

I’m so bummed I’m now just seeing this video. I watch all of yours and Chris’s videos (have for many years) and for what ever reason I never got notified of your new video.
The house Reno looks amazing and the bathroom is beautiful. My only issue with tubs like that is cleaning around the sides and back ere moisture and dirt can just sit cause it’s not easy to get to. But that’s just me. Fantastic little place. I can’t wait for my wife and I to be able to travel to Japan and stay at both your Air B&B places.
Eeeee Sharla + Ushka this is GORGEOUS!! Your ability to work together as a team and come up with the perfect vibes of cozy/traditional and modern/fun is so inspiring! I also love that this is available for longer-term stays! I've been planning a Japan trip for a while and this is definitely going on my list of potential places to bunker down during that stay! (Though granted I hope it gets so booked up that you have guests for years to come! But maybe I'll get lucky when I reach out in the future!)

Beautiful transformation! you could use the flower bed on the entrance to plant some rosemary and other herbs and flowers instead of being covered up

Yeah! I was dying to see the end result! And it is amazing! Chilling area with a kotatsu is really stunning, but the bathroom is an absolute masterpiece. I mean the tab visually reminds of an onsen and the aroma of the hinoki wood on the walls adds up to it. There's so much more to complement on... the front of nt look, the aurora wallpaper, the deck. Wow!
