We have loved the challenging word climbs! They are so useful and the words (or similar ones) come up all the time in books. My son did them a few years ago and my daughter just finished level 2 and we decided to work on the challenging word climbs while we wait for the new edition of level 3 and she is loving them too! I have used them as a vocabulary lesson as well as a reading lesson for the words they dont already know the meaning of and it seems to have made it a lot more meaningful for them!
Thank you SO much for this content!!! I am literally in the exact same position right now! I will keep the old version and hope my son will take to it, but I know the new edition is waiting in case this won’t work for us! I’m so excited for this curriculum!!
We are using language arts 2 and my daughter likes to complete her independent practice beforehand as well. She can't wait to be more independently led. But i also enjoy teaching her so this gives us the best of both worlds
Gina, I failed a few times before something occurred to me: WHAT DOES MY SON LOVE? He loved music. He was an excellent guitarist and he even picked up some piano (I have no idea where he learned piano!!!) So, I bought him a CD once a week, on the condition that he would explain to me the meaning of each song on the CD. I noticed that he struggled. I also noticed that, on his own, he started cheating by looking for music criticism, online. Poor kid didn't realize that's called "research." That's how college students get their Ph.D. My conclusion? Pay no attention to standard curriculums. Find what your child loves and half your work is already done.
Yes I love learning alongside my children!!! It’s so fun! I actually did learn diagramming in school!!! My 9th grade teacher taught it and I actually thought it was fun, so I’m excited that my kids are learning it too!!! I did level 3 with my son at age 10/11, we didn’t finish it and moved on to level 4 because I felt he was ready for it and outgrew it, but it was still good! I am excited for the new version though and I’m glad my other son will get to do the new version as he’s just started the level 2 now. All of their new versions have been amazing so I’m sure the new level 3 will be amazing too. Thank you for sharing!!! Very helpful!!!
Thank you for putting this up! I have generally liked their language arts curriculum. I hope the poetry collection is still kept there! My son will be doing Level 3 language arts next year. Love seeing how you make the curriculum work for your sons strengths. 💚
So glad you like it! We have only used the new editions (new homeschoolers here), and the only thing that I wasn't thrilled with was that the 3rd grade wasn't finished by the big sale! 😅😅😂 So we'll be picking it up when it is finished, since we did like year 2 this year!
I just unenrolled my kids from public school. Getting my 2nd grader ready looks fairly easy. I'm overwhelmed with my 8th grader. I don't know where to start!
I love how sentence diagraming helps my kids learn and I love how they now break down sentences and they say it’s fun!!! I love that they are so awesome with teaching homophones!!! I love the extra geography in language arts!!! I feel it’s enough even though I’m strict on geography as I’ve heard some comments that I feel like the ppl need to understand geography better!!! I’m stricter on curriculum than my kids as I know they will learn from the curriculum!!! We do the personal reading at a different time to the lessons!!!
Sorry if you already answered this. Can you post a link to the notebook you used please!? That looks so great. I looked it up, but there are like 20 different kinds on their site.. it was rather overwhelming. Thank you for this review!
My oldest was in public school until 2020 and was not reading very well at all as a 3rd grader. Level 3 was our first level as homeschoolers, and our deschooling process was rough! He had tears with every poetry reading, word climb, and writing assignment, as gentle as they were, for months! He never did learn to love the poetry (I did!) or writing, but the word climb became a kind of game for him. He started drawing pictures next to the words to help him remember what they were. Probably defeated the purpose of mastering the word on sight, but I was impressed by his problem solving skills, and we continued to do them for the whole course, though we got through only 2 or 3 pages of them. Do you think you will try the challenging sentence climb in Level 4 and see if he does better with them? I agree about the readers. I personally thought the stories were sweet, but my son was bored to tears (almost literally). His reading greatly improved throughout Level 3, but I hope they liven those up a bit. Level 4's are much better! We both loved The Kingdom of Kind! I actually just reread it as a read aloud for all of my kids for our Medieval History, and they all really enjoyed it. I really hope they keep it!
I so appreciate you sharing your experience! I think we will give it a try at level 4 but I just don't want any tears as I feel like it was setting the mood for our homeschool and it's funny because when he is reading the words in a sentence he can read it. Maybe it's the way that it's presented makes him nervous? We are excited to start level 4 and see how it goes :)
I love the old versions😊 I’m going to try out the new one with my youngest but I’ll use the old ones with my oldest. I pre bought the first and second grades so I’ll buy the third
It suggests 4 x a week, 1 lesson a day which allows you to complete the course in 30 weeks and of course take breaks when needed. Some families do it 5 times a week. It just depends on your schedule really. At the beginning of the course book, it lets you know how to use the course book and gives great advice :) so make sure to read that portion!
@@lifewithginab Wow thank you! I JUST started my homeschooling journey with my 9 and 10 year old. Videos like yours are so helpful. It’s very much appreciated ❤️
That is a great idea! We are waiting for the new edition to get started with level 3. I am going to head over and download this version for extra tools.

Yes they were on sale! And I'm sure this one (old edition) will go one sale too. Thank you so much for sharing!
I have the old one we got when it was on sale ! ❤
Did you add your own tabs to ghe notebook or are they already on them?
Hi Jessica! I added the tabs! I got them at the dollar store :)
Do you have a "book list" of all the books uou used?
I should make one! I do know all the books my son read... maybe I will include it in my end of year review
That would be great! I have 4 girls, but any recommendations are appreciated! You never know what might spark a child to want to read more.
You'll love the new edition (level 4)
About the readers.... We are enjoying the biographies
You're making me excited! 🤓😅
WHEN IS THE NEW VERSION COMING OUT?
Is the summer!! They don't have an exact date yet... but hopefully early summer!!!
@@lifewithginab thanks. I am planning on using the level 3 for my daughter.
