Friends, I'm here watching with you guys!! Let me know what you guys think of the new edition ... im loving the enthusiasm in the comments 🎉 🎉 ps: can you tell I'm in our RV... we are currently RV Homeschoolers ... more updates to come soon! ❤
we are a week into the new 3rd level gatb and we LOOOOOVE it I really appreciate the changes they have made. they deffinately have paid attention to what families were needing. love it so much.
I am so excited about all of these updates !! I did the original level 3 with my oldest and all of these changes are amazing. I can't wait to use this in the coming school year with my son!
I didn’t know they included videos with the new edition! I bought the old edition when it was on sale. Now I want to get the new edition. We are expecting baby #9 so those videos are priceless! ❤
This is such a tease 😂 I keep seeing review videos of the updated level. I wish theyd just release it already lol Edit to add: The video aspect is something I'm really looking forward to! I love that they're incorporating more videos into all of their subjects because it really does give me a little breather during teaching.
We're dipping our toes back in TGATB LA, and was set on using the old, but man oh man did they do a great job on the new version! While my kiddo was having a hard time sitting through a single lesson of the level 2 (old), she's now doing 2-3 lessons in one sitting they're so well set out!
Thank you so much for this! I was so close to printing out the old version, but in color, it would cost over $200. Now I can better decide if I should wait for this one.
I love how they've updated the writing portions! Seems to be much better instructions on HOW to do the writing. My son has struggled with writing so we have had to supplement. But this looks great!
Video lessons!! That's one of the main things that is making me look at TGTB again. This was a very thorough walk through of the new Level 3, very helpful! Thanks!!
You put so much time into your videos, Gina... you can just tell. The best flip through and comparison by far. Thank you for taking the time to do this for us. I'm adding to the cart once it comes out! And adding some additional things you mentioned, too! 😊
We loved the old level 3, especially the poetry. My littlest will hopefully be doing the updated level 3 in a few years. New or old, you can’t go wrong with TGATB!
Nice! My son is doing excellent using the older versions. He's used levels K-2 and now 3. I added in my own scaffolding for the writing once we started level 2 and that helped him so much when he started the old level 3. I will definitely use the newer levels once my younger children start school.
This is such a useful comparison. I love the difference in the writing. My son would be totally overwhelmed by what you showed in the old version but we might just make it with the new one. He does fine with other skills but doesn't even want to approach writing. I am also very excited to ty the video lessons. I have really liked the speaker shown in past video content. What a great way to mix things up and avoid monotony.
Yay!🎉 I am so stinking excited! Just blown away with the readers. Those look perfect! And yay for Kingdom of Kind! ❤ Now I can't wait for my boy to get to Level 3! Please give us another sneak peak with a do a lesson with us video!
I will definitely film a do a lesson with us ❤️ I'm so excited for this one too! Can't wait to do it from start to finish ... but for now, we are just doing the last unit, and we are so happy with it!
You did such an amazing job at reviewing/flip through/comparison!!! Thank you so much! My 3rd grader is working through the old version this year, but next year my 2nd grader will be able to use it! ❤️
Thank you so much, Shelby! It takes me quite a bit of time to film and edit these videos... so I'm happy when my videos are helpful ❤️ you made my night ❤️ thanks for sharing!!
It looks great and I love how they changed the spelling portion. We are finishing up the old level 2 and we didn’t buy in time for the old level 3. I am excited to start this with my oldest this year. The only thing I am hesitant about is that the lessons appear to be much longer.
They take us about 30 to 40 mins to complete. They seem a tad bit shorter than the old level 3 edition. As the levels increase, the lessons get a bit longer... I remember the first week back to our regular homeschool, it took us some time to adjust from level 2 time frame to level 3. I hope it works out for you ❤️
Wow those readers 😍 love what they're doing with spelling and the challenging words. My daughter is almost done with level 3 but she really loved the kingdom of kind story, I might just get the readers, hope there's an option for that. Thank you for showing us the new edition❤
They are available separately! I printed off the workbook, spelling book and answer key but didn't want to have to print and cut out all the books, so I decided to order just the books and I was able to do that!
Thank you for the review and comparison! My daughter still has about 20 lessons in level 2 to finish up next school year, then we get to start the new level 3! I just want to buy it already 😂
We are trying out the new level 2 this year. Itll be our first year using TGTB soley (we used AAR too before). Nervous but excited. This flip through of level 3 makes me more excited because it looks so good and i love the progression. I think having the phonics/reading at the beginning of the lesson and seperate from the course book seems like it will give more time for the grammar/writing component. I also love the gentleness of the writing!
I love All About Reading. Really thorough and sequential. I like the way they teach decoding rules. It is very repetitive though and my daughter is ready to try something new. It's also a bit pricey for just phonics!
Thank you for doing this comparison. Also just watched your level 4 review and it helps in deciding which route to take as newcomers to the curriculum. Where do you get the stickers you use on your School Nest journal? I think my kids will really like those! They look cute!
This is such an amazing comparison! My son is about halfway through old level 3. New edition looks so much better for him for writing. He hates writing. I like that it prompts them and helps them start. I'm thinking about switching to the new one lol
You know I don’t use TGATB other than randomly using their science units for a break. I just wanted to click so you get the hit and tell you to have a great weekend. Did I miss where you guys moved to or was that not announced?
I so appreciate the support 🫶 I haven't mentioned yet since we are kind of traveling and not where we are meant to be yet! So once we are I will definitely share ❤
@@lifewithginab Awe. I am sorry. Prayers for you. I know a lot of people have housing issues right now. One is a family member that is in denial that the house is up for auction next week. Prayers for whatever you and your family are going through. Prayers for the right time for the right house.
They are super helpful! If my son is learning about a certain spelling rule, we play a game throughout the week and referencing the flashcards to make a list of words that follow the spelling rules! Super helpful, and the spelling rules go so well with this level, too!
The video lessons seem to stop at level Three. Four and above does not have them, they do have the odd video or audio narration though. I wish they would have continued with the video lessons with 4 and 5.
It looks like there's going to be a BIG jump from level 3 to level 4 now, especially in the amount of writing required!! I tried level 4 ELA with my kiddos this past year and we had to leave it because it was too much for them!! My youngest just finished the new level 1 and i'm excited they'll at least get to go to level 3 now! After that I feel like its a bit overwhelming!! Have you done the higher levels to compare? How big of a jump will it be from new level 3 to old level 4?
How exciting! We will be starting level 2 🤞in july or August. Depending on how fast we finish booster cards B as they recommended on the placement test. We are currently on AAR level 1 and plan to continue that curriculum. We will be incorporating TGAB 🤞 he enjoys it. Im so thankful it is free as a pdf so we can give a it a try! Idk maybe one day if he absolutely enjoy it I'll purchase it but for now free is always a plus!

Ugh I know the feeling! But you know the books are my favorite part of the curriculum and they will be available online so maybe even reading those books is a great compromise ❤
Wow $100? It costs me 45 Canadian but usually I order just once a year... so the curriculum total (curriculum and shipping) in Canadian for me would be around $184 Canadian including the fee I pay for that weird fee at the front door)... which if I went with something else that I would like, it would probably cost me much more. Maybe it depends on where you live in Canada? Sorry it cost you so much... that's definitely frustrating!
How similar are each lesson old vs new? We are part way through the old edition, but the new edition looks like my little one would do a lot better with it! Would we be able to stop the old one at the end of a unit and start the new version at the same unit or would we need to restart the whole book?
Great question! So I started unit 4 (with the new edition) and we were using the old edition and went up until the end of unit 3. The new edition is much better in my opinion... the books, the lessons are much straight to the point... we love the video lessons, the writing and spelling.
