This video reminds me the beauty of homeschool. I just finished watching another homeschool video where the Mom said she would NEVER use TGATB. I love that homeschooling allows each family to choose what is best for them.
I'm an "in betweener" on TGTB. I think their new version of Language Arts is much more focused on phonics and it has been really effective in teaching my kids to read. They HATED AAR and all of the "popular" programs. I'm on the fence about math - I know the spiral approach has shown great results for the younger ages, but my math brain prefers mastery. That being said, my kids love doing their math lessons and rarely gripe about it and they are learning. The hybrid co-op we go to also uses the curriculum, so we will be sticking with it for now.
It’s interesting how even with the same curriculum we might find some subjects that work great for us and some that definitely don’t! Its all trial and error. ❤️
I will tell you my experience with TGTB. I starting using it and I loved it. It seemed so good and beautiful! I heard it was put out by a Mormon company and I made all sorts of excuses about that. I told myself that they had all these Christian people from all denominations checking it so it must be fine. But God clearly showed me it was not fine. I believe the Holy Spirit will show each of us individually His will for us. So I would encourage anyone who is going to use this curriculum to pray and seek God about it first.
Since you mentioned that, we should always go to THE WORD to find the answers to difficult questions. The Holy Spirit will never contradict Himself. If we look in Mark 9:40 Jesus said that we are to count as friends those that are not against us, and anyone that points us to GOD and to Jesus will never be driven by a demon. So I believe that you are right in asking The Lord to guide us but always keeping in mind that GOD will never contradict His Word. Thankfully, there are so many awesome curriculums out there that everyone will be happy.
Thank you for your comment. I don't believe TGTB ever actually mentions Jesus, but they could. I haven't used all their curriculum. But I do know that the Mormon's version of God and Jesus is not the God and Jesus of the Bible. So I don't consider it a contradiction. But like I said, please pray and see what the Holy Spirit tells you. He uses other people to warn us sometimes, but He always verifies His messages individually. Blessings on your homeschool!
Thank you. Yes, I am aware about this religion’s beliefs. However, as long as the curriculum mentions Bible Verses, God as Creator and Father and our Lord Jesus, that is all I need. (Jesus is mentioned even on the Math video lessons.) My point on my comment is not to argue with your beliefs about TGTB (and I’m sure you did not take it like that either because you were very polite) but to make sure anyone using this curriculum doesn’t feel guilty or fearful about it because we are free in Christ. GOD has not given us a spirit of fear and there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Blessings to you as well.
We absolutely love The Good and the Beautiful! The updates have made it so much better, too. I'm really curious, for those who also love it, what do you use for history? I want to wait for TGTB updated history next year, but I'm not sure what to use in the meantime. I didn't care for The Mystery of History or Blossom & Root or The Story of the World.
I use Biblioplan for history and really love it! It’s a Biblical family style history program! I have a couple videos showing more detail about Biblioplan if you want to check it out.
We did TGTB space unit last year and loved it. We will definitely be doing more of their science units. We use their handwriting and love it as well! We switched my son to their math this year after using a different curriculum that just wasn’t working for him. TGTB math has been amazing for him; he has learned so much and he loves it. We just started TGTB preschool with our youngest and again, love it! She is doing so well with it and it is fantastic.
We actually have loved their handwriting too! And I love their preschool program! I’m kinda sad I won’t be using that anymore…my kids are too big! 😭❤️ I’m so glad you’ve found something you love!
We’re doing Kingdoms and Classification and Marine Biology from TGATB this coming year. I really like the changes they have made. Even more “open and go” than before. I’m glad you mentioned the Maturation unit. I need to do that unit soon. 🙃
We did the Marine Biology unit combined with GR Oceans our 1st semester this year and LOVED it! We reallllly drew them out and earned a 1/2 science credit for my HS kid. We could have studied it all year and still needed more time for all the rabbit holes we went down lol.
I agree with you! We have tried their science, math, history, and la. IMO, science is the star of their show. We also do selection similar to you-My kids get to pick a unit each and I also pick a unit.
I decided to give a science unit a try and I was impressed. My 5th grader didn’t care for the unit due to the content but I had never formally taught her physics so I picked the simple machines unit. My 2nd and K boys really enjoyed the unit as I thought they would. My 5th grader chose Masterbooks Elementary Zoology for next year so that’s what we will be doing next year. I also wanted to see for myself if I found any Mormon teachings in the science units and there was nothing. I do think these units are a great way to do science! I love that they make it verrrrrrry easy to “do science” once or twice a week and still get through a unit every couple of months. We don’t do science every day so full year science curriculums kinda intimidate me (like the one we are doing next year). We already had all the books for zoology on our shelf so I just had to pay 20 for the workbook pdf for my daughter, so I really don’t care if we end up only doing a fraction of the zoology course next year. We will see because I just can’t see us getting to science daily.
Mine is 4 years old, we just have started little hearts and hands, it looks wonderful. But as I'm secular I won't continue woth TGTB science units. But I really like them. I wish there was such a good and beautiful secular science curriculum.
My kiddos enjoyed the readers that went with the units we did but not as much on the actual curriculum. We picked Botany and Paleontology last year. We are switching to a living book science next year.
This was so good, thank you. I also love TG&TB. I have not found anything weird or off. I guess it’s just based on your preferences are. Thanks again, great video❤
Yes!! I have 7 kids and have burnt myself out only combining 2 of my oldest and 2 middle and schooling the rest individually. We are switching to Biblioplan for family history and read alouds as well as TGATB science for my 1st through 6th. I am so relieved! Right now I teach 3 history levels, and 2 science levels. 🤦🏻♀️
I’m curious to hear how you’ll like the new format! The book is just so skinny compared to thick stack of content you get with the old versions. It makes me wary that a lot has been cut out. We’ve done the old version of Space and loved it and are going to start Birds this week. I also love that I can let my kids each choose a unit that most interests them. Hoping we will still like the new format for this fall. 🤞🏼
We have only ever used TGTB science, but we’re taking a break and trying out Berean Builders next year…just to shake things up. We may end up missing TGTB. I’m sure I have some extra units sitting on my shelf just in case 😜 Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the previews, it looks amazing! We love Christian light but might do TGTB's aswell or a bit of both, now the science too! Some people are so strange on the religion aspect, they are Christian aswell, let's be kind!
I use some TGTB materials, but Mormons teach that Jesus and Satan are brothers, that when Mormons die, they will become gods with planets to populate, etc . This is factual, not unkind. We know many very lovely Mormon people and harbor no animosity against them or anyone else with varying beliefs. While I use some TGTB, I respect those who choose not to for religious reasons. It doesn’t make them unkind.
I appreciate that so much is pointed back to God. I’m not Mormon and honestly don’t know much about their beliefs, but their science curriculum has been God centered and I appreciate that!
@@ourthriftyhomeschool I mean no disrespect to you or to your video. We are currently using and really enjoying the Marine Biology unit from TGTB. We also enjoy their handwriting curriculum and look forward to using their art materials next year. I’ve had several Mormon friends and former Mormon friends for over 20 years, so we’ve had many opportunities for deep discussions about faith and beliefs. I only wanted to reply to the commenter stating that some people are strange about religion. ❤️
We are currently using the Health and Human Body unit by TGTB. It is so awesome. Lots of hands in activities and the student journals really encompass the scientific method perfectly for each grade level. We love the simple but effective experiments. We have made a model of blood and a model of the respiratory system and it turned out so neat! My kid is learning a lot from this unit.
TGTB Science is great for family style learning ! Yes we love learning together, they don’t get bored 🤣 We also love Gather Round and Campfire Curriculum is a winner too ! Great information ❤️
Yes I ordered the health and the human mind, I'm waiting on that one. I also wanted the maturation course but it will be this summer before they'll have it again. So I'm waiting. Plus I'm overseas so I'm sure that's part of my waiting.
We are new to TGTB - Health and the Human Mind is our first study. It is just lovely. Our Occupational Therapist loves the content of Lesson One, where they give a lovely description of theory of mind "your brain vs your spirit/soul" and how they are actually different. I'm looking forwards to the lesson on addiction. We have tried another well-respected, Christian science curriculum, but it was too academic and took too many hours per week for our schedule... as the Mom in the video says, this is great for once or twice a week lessons. The other one is still a great choice for high school.
We did TGTB during covid and I wasn’t impressed… but like you, came back to it this year and I love it. I like the layout of the new editions! We chose space science and I love the workbook that you can get for it and same with the US constitution unit! My 4th grader does not like the LA , so I’m changing her to something else, but math is great for all my kids and I can’t wait until the new editions of the history books come out!!!
I’m so glad you’ve found a good fit for your family! I’ve heard good things about the constitution unit! I’m so glad the new science editions are a win! 🥳

We are definitely in between. We only did 2 science units and we are about to do their health unit about sexual maturation and reproduction. Other than that, we probably wouldn't buy anymore science units again especially going into High School.
We are currently using Chemistry with GR Chemistry foe our 2nd semester. It's been great and the read alongs are extra awesome! Same thing, when we are finished my HS student will have a 1/2 science credit (1 full credit for his freshman year) We are using their Constitutional Studies unit once a week for civics and will be using it for about 2 years. The Constitution Island book is so good. I bought it but we ended up listening to it on their website while we do our cutouts, vocab stuff.
I really loved their Language Arts! We did a few of the elementary levels and it was very well rounded and fun and engaging! And yes, it’s incredible that they offer them for free online if you want to take a peek or just download them! ❤️

As long as their beliefs are not put in the curriculum, which I believe is true with TGTB and Evan Moore, I have no problem with it.
