    Watching this with a BMW e39 540i Touring in the Garage. For me this is the Holy Grail you working on! Really nice car, would love to have one.

      Lovely car. A friend of mine had a 540i sedan. At that point I had only ever driven the inline 6 BMWs and was thoroughly impressed with the V8 in the 540i.

      A local guy has an e39 540i Touring. I asked if it was for sale and he, with a big smile, kindly said no. I was in my e92 M3 at the time so I believe we both understood why I asked and why he responded as he did. After this model I would go with the B3 as they are now the same size and the modern B3 & B3S look amazing. BMW is slowly going to squire Alpina as MB did with AMG and offer the Alpina cars as an option for those wanting more than Standard BMW but not as hard edge as BMW M. This would be a great move as it would free up BMW M to not compromise as much as it has with its most recent cars and return to the earlier M cars. The new M3/4, m5 and M8 are all way to big and heavy.

    Love these cars. e39, e38, e31, e46. BMW achieved the timeless design with these models. These cars looked awesome when new and now when they are becoming rare people start to appreciate them. I just can’t stop looking at these anytime I see one. Specially when it comes to the best combination M or alpina. Another big thank you to Ed for making these amazing videos and for sharing. Keep up the good work m8.

    13:57 Fun fact. Alpina added the button style gear shifts before Ferrari did it on their cars with paddle shifters or before paddle shifters were in F1.
    That's why they still use the button type gear shifting because they are proud of their lineage and it differentiates them from others. Nowadays though you can order an Alpina with paddle shifters if you want.

    Great video, these cars are great.
    Interior is Ecru extended nappa.
    Brembo brakes are 4 pot, also know as BBK. Discs and pads as you say are bespoke to the V8S and crazy money.

      B9? The e28 B9 is my favorite e28 right next to the M5. They did an amazing job with the SOHC M30B35 and honestly it looks much better than the M5. Only the original early cars without the body kits come close in the looks department. B10 was e34 chassis

      (2000 turbo, first 4 generations 3series, first 4models of 5series, first 3 6series, M1, 8series Z8, & 507.. ) are very special if are decent maintained, at least to me..

    Really nice Alpina. Free tip: use a seatbelt and not drive with one hand on top of the steering wheel gives you extra bhp 😉

    • @epicon6
      @epicon6 3 роки тому

      Nice tip but this is a BMW Alpina. The less you signal lane changes and the less you wear seatbelts and the more you drive with one hand on the wheel gives you the most bhp.

    • @houseofno
      @houseofno 3 роки тому

      OMG, where do you people get this stuff? Horsepower is a product of a number of things; displacement, parts used, bottlenecks in intake and exhaust path, but your horsepower has NOTHING to do with how you're driving the car. What you do behind the wheel does NOT change a single horsepower or pound of torque. Don't believe everything you read on the internet. That has to be the most ridiculous thing I've ever read anywhere. You can be sitting in the back seat, front seat, or even lock yourself in the trunk and it won't change the car's horsepower or torque.

    I'm thinking maybe strip it down and ship it over and have a E39 M5 touring built..

      Your first obstacle would be Alpina itself, as they will not sell Alpina mechanical parts individually unless you can prove ownership of the Alpina car it goes to. That's been their policy for sixty years. If you don't believe me, you're welcome to try. Good luck.

    I wish you were my mechanic because my 3.5 m62 engine clearly has less chance of blowing head gaskets yet my idiot mechanic insisted on that and sure as fuck I've got them both here and there is nothing wrong with them just a huge hole in my Bank. He did timing chain it's all I wanted and a service but oh no he's had the engine out not only that he hasn't sealed reassemble proper so another £200 + worth gaskets and my anger grows. Great video I love my e38 more than any car I've owned. It's sexy and scary. No back boxes!

    • @The777Garage
      @The777Garage  3 роки тому

    One of my car mistakes, went to see a ropey 2003 V8S in Techno Violet, old man had owned since 2 years old, fbmwsh and extended warranty
    It was a mess; 19” wheels messed up, body work poor, huge front brakes worn out etc. He claimed a BMW engine rebuild a year back but didn’t keep the paperwork for it.
    We agreed £4200, but I changed my mind and didn’t bother. What a mistake!
