I remember when we (South africa) got our first Alpinas in the early 90s. It was the E34 B10. I only ever saw two in person and both times they caused a stir. Those gorgeous alloys and that body kit gave it a stance so much better than even the M5 of that generation. Very special cars indeed.
Lovely cars these. I used to have a 1999 B10 V8 in black. Previous to that a 2000 B10 3.3 in blue. Both saloons. By the way, 375 bhp was the S, as already stated, this has 340 bhp. Still plenty to give a decent shove in the back.
This particular example has 4.6L engine (F4) with vanos unit (engine cover with shaped space for oil dipstick) so 347bhp. The earliest cars untill probably 11.98 had 4.6 without vanos unit (straight lines engine cover- F3) having 340bhp.

Thankfully I have a stick shift e39 touring. It's rusty & has over 250k on it now, so eventually I'll consider a swap & full resto. And now I'm SOLD on the v8 swap. I was DROOLING at the exaust note. Thankful I found this video.
As a huge fan of wagons, V8's, BMW, Alpina, and Green cars....not knowing this car existed until today and then seeing this video pretty much blew my mind. The want is strong with this one!
I had a B10 3.3 followed by a V8s ( and an E39 M5 ). They are good cars but they do rust - a lot. Gearbox oil needs changing and head gaskets can go. They are quick rather than fast. A Golf R estate would run rings around it now.
I have an E39 touring & want to lift it up a bit, that alpina front bar is perfect dont get me wrong l luke all the m5 bars ppl update to but its a tiny bit to garish & then ld have to do exhaust, this is stunning for a soccer mum. Prob would tweek exhaust 2. Ay ppeps that silver grill is killer? Y wld l put a black grill on a white car?
Small detail. The caps that cover the bolt for wheel bolt cover are not OEM! There should be a key lock there. How do I know? I made exactly the same looking 3D printed caps for my R17 OEM Alpina softlines
Correct! There's should also be a set of separate keys for the wheel nut locks too, IIRC £500 to replace, it's easy to spot the knock off softlines- valves!!!
Love it. I have an equally special B3 3.3 75k miles coming up for sale. Mine was the first e46 Alpina in the UK B3 3.3 #009. Hope it can find a home with a collector.
Subtle and sophisticated says the man sitting in a mustard yellow leather and garish wood interior! Hope Alpina got better source E39 Tourings than the two I had the misfortune to buy, and if not, worked out the myriad design faults and snags before sale. That glass hatch and dead pixels for example. Great video nonetheless.
Lack of crackles and bangs reminds us of a time when rich people had sense and style, same goues for the understated design of many powerful fast luxury cars. Today... bling it up, right from the factory, so it matches my golld teeth inserts and wakes an entire city on the bread run.
The in mid-2000's, in one of the BMW magazines, they did a feature on an Alpina 3-series. They said that for the engine, that had 1800 parts, they swapped out 600, modified 600, and left 600 alone. You get what you pay for
They based their E46 engine on the old 90's e36 engine architecture. It was all a pointless exercise. We would have all been so much better off if they used the M54 E46 platform.
Tyre value : when was the last time someone let your tyres down ? Exactly. The reason that the value is where it is, is to keep the value closer to the hub, which makes the wheel easier to balance, and centres the weight nearer the hub. Stopping people letting down the tyres has nothing to do with it, either as a design or a desired by customer feature
I doubt it's even that. When's the last time your tyre fitter couldn't balance your tyre cause of that valve on the rim? It just looks better, fully a cosmetic feature.
@@asimhumayun7428 The registration date is June 1999. This is the date it was registered here in the UK. That makes no sense for a Japanese import. The only MOT on record is from October 2021, 3 months ago, which is probably when they were preparing the car for sale. How is it possible for a car to have 113k miles on the clock, registered here in the UK 23 years ago and have only 1 MOT test, 3 months ago? What happened to the other MOT tests?
@Ioannis Iordanidis The registration date is when it was registered for use for the first time. But this does not have to be in the UK. In this case it was first used in Japan in June 1999. Given the first UK MOT was in October, the car likely arrived in the UK around this time.

Yes, because it combines a BMW straight SIX in 3L form and its a diesel that is economic for the power. M cars have power you can rarely use and the diesel goes past you in the filling station.

Gorgeous car
An Alpina D5 was one of my favourite cars for smashing through the miles, smoother than the M versions.
I bet this one B10 is lovely.

High point in fast wagons and 90's design, I'd have this over a contemporary fast Estate or SUV!

Absolutely love the front look of the car. Classic
The exhaust - when played through studio monitor speakers - sounds like a massive thunderstorm!
I once had a e34 b10 3.5, number 47, it felt really special, the handling was incredible for an 88 car.
The peak of BMW in my opinion.
That's the nicest 5 series I've seen. E39, Alpina, wagon, green/tan. 😍

Rust around the wheel arches? Front of the side skirts? Same on my E39 touring! 221k on the clock so a bit of catching up to do with yours.

Great video, love Alpinas. I'd like to see a B10 Bi Turbo / E32 B12 feature too.
I did PDI's on a handful of B10's in Nottingham back in the day, dream car for me.
This car, and in this color, is amazing!

The powerhouses of 20 years ago all have been eclipsed in speed by modern hot compact cars. Still they are just so fun and cool.
While you drive one the most of cars are finally always behind as it goes nearly 290km/h. Every example factory speed unlocked 😝
