When Polaroid announced that it would cease production of its film for Polaroid cameras in 2008, instant photography fans were stunned. It was then that the Impossible Project was founded. The company’s first order of business was to buy up all of Polaroid’s machinery, lease a factory, and then begin manufacturing the film once again. For enthusiasts, this was a blessing. Impossible Project made it possible for new and old photography buffs to easily delve into analog instant photography.
Fast forward to 2016 and Impossible Project has developed its first camera. “With the I-1, we really had the chance to design an instant camera for 2016 and we wanted to do that rather than do a nostalgic reissue,” says Impossible’s CEO Oskar Smolokowski. The minimal design leaves only what’s necessary, making way for a simple and sleek instant camera perfect for modern day. Check out the HYPEBEAST TV Process above to learn more about the company and its flagship device.

Highest congratulations on a clearly massive undertaking, one which feeds the essential, instant feedback loop of photographic visualization for all, both professional and amateur. I was one of Polaroid's primary commercial photographers, trained by cases and cases of SX-70 film, so you have my particular admiration. Thank you for this achievement.
Did nobody see the credits? Alamby Leung produced this! Go girl! 👊😆
That background music is a banger!
Track is 'Looped - Kiasmos' if anyone is wondering.
Worked in Polaroid Ireland on the machines that made the film 1981 great memories of a fantastic company many good times 40yrs ago.
Bring back more HB process and HB spaces videos. They are inspiring.
Alamby! Such a great job! :D
Cool looking camera! The top portion reminds me of Polaroid Super Shooter
dedication!
Nice video but why go to the effort of making a really slick video and then not treat the audio with the same respect. Audio editing could be better and the levels haven't been referenced to match the various clips. The white noise and clicks can be mostly reduced relatively easy. Great piece though, just something to consider in the future :)
Might be a stupid question but Can you only use the impossible I-1film or can you use the impossible 600?
I miss being able to get film easily for my Polaroid Land Camera.
phototristan You should be thankful you can get it at all now!
Thats pretty cool. I heard that the works good, but there are more "usable features" when using the app on IOS. That seems kind of trippy.

Cool that the camera has a built in battery, but does that mean Impossible will produce a new integral film pack without a battery in it?
Yes, that is the next logical step. This is pure speculation but without a battery the price per pack can drop and because of the newfounded extra space, maybe, just maybe they'll be able to put more film inside
It seems impossible answered some of the questions people have been asking. They said film will be released without a battery, but it will still be 8 photos. The price will come down some too. The thing is they already had a pack without a battery before and it was used for their instant lab. A friend owns one of those and she said the film wasn't that much cheaper than the regular film packs. She looked up her last order and it said $21.99. I think she said film with the battery was $23.99. That's not really a big discount.
They already make film without a battery for the Instant Lab. This camera uses the same film. It's only a few dollars cheaper. For the price they are asking for this camera you can get a restored SLR680 with a real SLR viewfinder and an articulating electronic flash.
probs to these people
interesting to see lots of the films out of light...wonder when they become "sensible"
Teenage Engineering also work on this camera but nobody said it ..
you could make for the new camera also a film that has 10 pics instead of 8pics, this could be possible but i guess money money money
But why it it different? Why they just can't make films like Polaroid made?
pretty sure polaroid lost or got rid of the formula when the stopped developing them
A "pure analog camera" to be used with an iPhone. Yes I remember it so well, the touchscreens on my Kodak Instamatic 1974 and on my Minolta XDs 1978 and the joy, the hands on feeling it gave me, 1980 when my finger connected to the touchscreen of my Kodak Instamatic! That's why we turned to polaroid cameras, we wanted finally use one of those touchscreens, we miss so dearly in our everyday life! ... .. . Perhaps next time a CEO, with a tad bit more life experience and background knowledge, like ... the indispencible role of touchscreens especially on iPhones in the history of analogue cameras, that is... ? And, to to be sure, this I am beeing ironic here!
Its a combination of analog camera technology with digital precision. The camera is analog, the addition of Bluetooth brings accessibility to those unfamiliar with the technology
if they only sold polaroid film in stores :/
urban outfitters does
Julio Serivah and Barnes and Noble :)
Films are still way too expensive. You can't just casually shoot 3 or 4 films in one party or family gathering for people to keep. It'd cost around 100 bucks! Instead of keeping it on your fridge door and cherishing those memories for years they shoot countless photos with their smart phone and forget about it in a few days.
The camera looks great apart from 8 film instead of 10. I can't blame anyone for it at this point but the films costs way too much at this point.
HORRIBLE DESIGN
MrDantesdream Please do design one better if you can.
+james wilson If you ever have criticized anything, I suppose you did it better too? Your reasoning is a bit strange.
