    Wow, $ 349.99, I just got 2 of them, one for me and one for my daughter a a Christmas present at $ 38,71 each with free shipping from B&H, so it seems like when the camera was first released it was way more expensive, but sometimes that's the price you have to pay when buying a brand new product.

    great unboxing video nice and clear
    some thoughts regarding the camera:
    Both the viewfinder and the lens are exposed
    hmmmmm....
    i suspect they are going to release an expensive leather sleeve of some sort in the near future....(or just +£80 for their HÄNSKA CAMERA BAG?)
    it's weird looking and the plasticy look just dont do it for me, but i have to admit like you said it's growing on me too

      So, I thought this same thing, I even filmed a bit talking about how exposed the eye piece was... then I discovered it's magnetic, it just pops off the top and you can stow it away safely, then pop it back on! i might when I get a chance I might show a quick video on that.

    Great unboxing video :-) This camera looks very cool. I did'nt order it because it is quite expensive, but I understand the first shipping is already sold out. I was a bit surprised that the special I-1 film again needs to be shielded from light, considering The Impossible Project finally solved that problem with their regular film packs. I wonder if there also is an Android app or do you have to have an iPhone?

    • @robertjcarmody7327

      +EchteSuperErnie I hear you, I wasn't going to get one, but the idea of manual control sucked me in. As for the film, Impossible's channel says to shield it. This camera can also use any of the 600 film they make. I wasn't aware that the Gen 3 didn't need to be shielded, I'll have to look into that. As of now there is no Android app that I have read about. I have an iPhone so was lucky on that side I guess. They app is pretty neat, I will try to do a video of that soon. Thank you for the compliment, it was my first unboxing video ever!

      Impossible recommends to shield it, but it's fine if you don't.

    Nice packaging. I wonder if they will ever make an Android app for it. Until that day, this camera is obviously not for me.

    But why would i use this instead of my 3 600 models or my 1 sx-70?

    • @robertjcarmody7327
      @robertjcarmody7327  7 років тому

      I would say an "advantage" would be using the controls via smartphone with things like manual mode, long exposure, noise trigger, double exposure, light painting, etc. I honestly mostly use my SX-70. I have more film to continue to play with this model and need to put more time into shooting with it. It's just another option of a camera to explore. If you are a purist, it may not be for you. If you are intrigued by some the creative things it allows you to do, then it's another tool to use when the time is right.

    I have my old Polaroid 600 and I was wondering if you guys think upgrading to this camera is worth it

    • @robertjcarmody7327

      So, honestly I have been so busy that I haven't got to spend much time shooting ANY of my Polaroids. That being said, the thing that made me spend the $$ was that you could have Manual control of shooting. The other creative control also available in the app is awesome and fun as well, but being able to have manual use for this film was what made me get it.

    I know it's still relatively new, but how are you handling needing to use a smart phone to access just about all the other features of the camera?
    Cool camera, but I have to admit that needing a smart phone to be able to make adjustments to the settings of the camera is a bit of a turn off. It's an instant camera, so it would make sense you would have instant access to control the camera and make the shot you want.. seems like an unnecessary process to have to pull out your phone, connect the devices, go into an app, make changes, then go back to your camera to take the photo.. and hopefully you're happy with the setting, otherwise you'd have to keep going back to the phone to get the camera to where you want it.
    Hmm.. bummer it's only for iOS right now.. where's Android?
    I didn't see anybody mention it, but does it need to connect wifi?.. it would be best if it could be bluetooth so you could possibly maintain connection with low power usage (unlike wifi tends to be).
    Anyways, if you find you would want to change settings a lot, I really think they should have integrated a smart phone holder on the back of the camera so at least you're handling 1 object instead of 2.
    If this somehow does well, perhaps a version 2 will be out some day and they can at least some manual creative controls on the camera body itself.
    Granted, most instant cameras before pretty much had zero manual setting controls anyways, but now that there is a way to adjust camera settings, it seems it would have been better not to have to use 2 items.. a bit cumbersome, but maybe not actually that bad in practice.

      +Wing Yip If you put controls on an instant camera, it won't really be much of an instant camera since a lot of original Polaroid cameras didn't have very many settings and functions. I think what Impossible was going for was something simple enough for someone to use straight out of the box, but still be able to do different types of effects via an app for anyone trying to do something more advanced like Light Painting or Long Exposures (which are both in the app with other settings as well). The app is OPTIONAL, Android users will get their app soon. It connects through BLUETOOTH, NOT WIFI (why the hell would you pair something together with wifi? Plus wifi isn't available everywhere FYI). The idea of having a phone holder is nice, but the app also has a trigger to snap a photo and set manual controls.
      All other information that you weren't aware of is on the website: us.impossible-project.com/pages/impossible-i-1-analog-instant-camera

      +Polaroid Jay I see.
      Yes, Bluetooth is better..yes, why would you want to pair something with wifi? Well, that's the way it's mostly done these days between cameras and smart phones. I was curious about the I-1 because nearly all remote control through apps between camera and smart phones have been wifi (if anything, I would say wifi is most available in most devices, bluetooth would be next and then NFC).. I can't think of any that use Bluetooth with the exception of the latest Nikon d500.. otherwise, the other wireless/remote connectivity is NFC which is generally nice and quick.
      I think if I owned such a camera the way it works and is adjusted, I'd could appreciate bluetooth connection so it can stay tethered at lower power consumption rate.. should be more stable than wifi, if it were otherwise.
      I agree the original concept of the instant polaroid camera was simple and to the point making it little to fiddle with so you can just think of what you want to shoot and just take the shot.
      However, I think if you're going to make a modern instant camera with options to control settings manually and other effects, wouldn't it make sense to keep access to these controls on the camera itself so you can more instantaneously access them on the camera and continue shooting?.. Turning to a 2nd device to adjust controls would seem a little counterproductive in that respects and suspending/interrupting the instantaneousness of an instant camera by diverting your attention to an auxiliary device to then go back to the camera and continue your instant photo taking, don't you think?
      I hear and see what you're saying and why the may have made the I-1 to function like it does, but this is just my take on what I (and some others) feel is perhaps not the most dissatisfying decision to have to split your attention and control between 2 devices to basically perform 1 action in the end.

      I don't think you took the time to really read my comment. Impossible wanted the camera to be simple. If you had all functions put into the camera out of the box, users would have a hard time understanding how to use it. Since most Polaroid cameras (aside from the SX-70 models with range finder focus and single lens reflex focus) are all point and shoot out of the box. I don't shoot anything other than Polaroid, and if you handed me a DSLR, I wouldn't have any idea to use it. Every Polaroid camera i've ever picked up was simple to use, and didn't take much to fully understand how to use it, so I can see why Impossible created the I-1 to be just like that with an OPTIONAL app that can be used with it (I also heard that the app might get added functionality with updates so it makes sense).
      If you look back to Polaroid's history and how their branding and cameras actually worked, you'd have a better understanding (I doubt you currently do) of how any of these cameras works. People are so caught up with using apps and things on their phones, so with the idea of having an app to use with this device works. It's 2016, everyone stares and their phones, plus most photographers carry a DSLR AND a mobile device that they upload photos on and post onto instagram. But really, you're not staring at your damn phone the whole time that you're going to be using the I-1, you'll only be using it to choose modes and hit the shutter button. The main thing you'll be watching out for is development of the film.

    • @khronokraze
      @khronokraze 8 років тому

      i did take the time to read your comments.
      do you think so? people would have hard time using a camera with controls to set the camera? You have just as much control on your smart phones, if not more, I don't see how it would be that different?
      Besides, you could conceivably leave the I-1 as is and shoot really simply, as I believe you've basically said.
      Yes, I can understand how controls and other features to set camera functions could be intimidating and/or confusing.. But, even the most advanced cameras have a P or auto mode to leave it to the camera to decide so you can just shoot away to your heart's content. I think there are fair number of professionals who admit they often shoot in P mode and I'll bet so many of the consumers who buy even entry level "pro" cameras from Costco rarely understand the camera before purchasing and leave more or less on P mode even though they have more than enough controls to fiddle with.
      Regardless, for me, I feel if I wanted to adjust camera settings, I think it would be more convenient to do it right off the camera than to pull out another device to tell the camera what to do.
      I think they could have kept the I-1 simple to use and kept controls on camera for those who like to have more fidelity in their photo making with on camera controls to do so quickly and less fiddly.
      I can see your's and possibly Impossible's concept for this I-1 and why full camera controls are only available via smart phone app.. I'm just saying on the other hand, I personally would have preferred everything all in 1 device and product.
      Yes, having a smart phone to connect most people who are probably unfamiliar with polaroids could make some sense.. a bridge, perhaps.. or even a gateway drug.. and if they get hooked and used to it more, the polaroid camera, that is, perhaps, they may someday want to just go to the polaroid directly and bypass the smart phone for full control.. just give me the camera with controls cause I know what I want from it and how to get it... perhaps laters, then, Impossible might oblige to such demands or desires.
      I am curious how they will develop more films for this medium.

    No self timer; no focus (SLR); no neck strap(?) just a hand strap; what is the minimum focus? Auto exposure I assume?

    • @robertjcarmody7327
      @robertjcarmody7327  8 років тому +3

      So on the camera alone there is no self-timer, but if you use the smartphone app there is one in there along with other options for how to trigger the camera. Yes it only comes with a hand strap, but they do sell a neck strap on the Impossible website. Minimum focus should be around 1ft (.3m).. I think. Here is a good video describing how the focus zones work: ua-cam.com/video/D2WhqXqlK_g/v-deo.html It's auto exposure with the camera alone, but if you use the smartphone app you can use manual exposure from there.

    If it were half that price (and the app cost $5-15) I'd definitely buy it.
