Thanks for the hands-on video, Kai! Could you please confirm if it’s possible to turn the cooling fan on in the photo mode? It could be useful for long exposures (astrophotography).
8 seconds to switch between video to photo? That's a big bummer (for me) cause sometimes the shot is gone in 8 seconds. Is there a way to speed this up, ie turn off sensor cleaning? I mean if it were 2-4 seconds that could be ok ... 8s just seems like I'm risking losing the opportunity for the type of work I do (i get this might be irrelevant for others).

This may be what takes me back to Canon from Sony. I shot on 5D2 and 3 until the superiority of Sony cams for video became too much to ignore. Got an A7S2, then an A73, and now the A7S3 which as truly been a wonderful camera and does everything I always dreamed a small body hybrid camera would. But I never liked shooting stills on Sony so I kept my 5D3 and still have a pretty sick collection of L lenses. I could get at least $7k for my A7s3, 5D3 and my Sony lenses, which would leave more than enough to cover the R5C and some cfexpress cards, cage, and a few other things. And I'd have a way better stills camera too. Would it be cool to have a full size hdmi and ibis? Sure, but it's easy to work around that and the other specs are pretty insane. Even a few years ago the only way you could get 8K60 RAW for less than $5k was renting a RED. And now that I'm writing this it sounds crazy not to switch back. Having 2 separate systems is expensive.
Great review, it's a huge camera for sure! I thought my sony a7r iv was big, but this? Probably not ideal for street photography. But more for studio work.
Nice to hear Dan again, behind the camera. I still think Video cams for Video production and not all of this "add bits on" too a DSLR form factor. Call me old fashioned.
Good review! OK, not camera-related, but the long hair looks good, Kai. Grow it even longer! Cheers from Toronto! p.s. Been to London twice (2018, 2019) and love the place, also notice Big Ben is finally pulling his/her skirt down!
Really curious to know how weather sealing its really like ..cos I think that will be my deal breaker I guess if it isn't really properly weather sealed, also the IS so far doesn't look as stable even in digital, definitely doesntly look like the infamous wobble is there , but definitely looks like an interesting camera :)
Air vents = Absolutely not weather sealed, I'm afraid. Also, the lack og IBIS isn't mainly justified by better digital stabilization, but rather the intended use cases of the camera. IBIS can cause issues in high action situations, and the people using this will probably want to use external camera support systems. Sounds to me like you would prefer the original R5 😜
@@Ohyehah yup, I agree, I would only get it as a supplementary more video centric camera which is obvious heheh, but definitely such an intriguing package, especially with the proper 45 Megapixel photos, sad though that it won't have the IBIS in photos though, wonder if it can compensate shake in Digital IS for pics? perhaps not. Great review as always, Kai! You are really one of the most enjoyable sources of camera information on youtube. Canon however makes me scratch my head with this one. Canon find the most strange ways to cripple their cameras to not disrupt their lineup.

@@Illuminationsfromtheattic that's still to be seen. The reason, that firmware update has not been rolled out, is because they've still got issues with it. I won't count on it, until they actually can deliver that. And by then, Canon will have scooped up the market of those, that wanted it.
I still can't see, where they're going to find the bandwidth needed to deliver 8k60 12-bit raw ... which is what the R5c does.
@@Marlow925 R5c is months away from shipping, and even if the Z9 doesn't have 8k 60fps by then it's still got numerous advantages over the R5c.
@@Illuminationsfromtheattic The R5c is currently scheduled to ship between March 15th and March 30th, depending on where in the world you are, not months !! That's one month to one month and a half. And Nikon is nowhere near getting their firmware ready. They've been delaying it a lot. So, unless they make fire under their developers, they will miss that train.
2:50 LOL "If anyone has bought the R5 for video, ooph, you're going to be gutted." True. R5C is fantastic.
And that nice guy (not you LOL) at 08:23) is RIGHT... you're amazing... and I must compliment you for putting so much humour in a FANTASTIC review... and not just in THIS one!
I bought the EOS 5 in June 2020 and the EOS C70 in September 2021... and have a big problem now LOL! Cheers Mr. Kai... continue this awesome work! Ciao, Max.
Congrats on the early scoop - great to see this camera in action.
8:30 - Renaming your channel to „That camera guy“? How about „That camera Kai“ - oh look that‘s that camera Kai
One thing more to test... If these newly launched camera provides a USB video out & how good it is.
As we are in the chaos since 2+ years, many of us are still in work-from-home situation cause sectors with mass employees aren't allowed to work under one roof. This info might be helpful.
This video was a lot of fun. And Lance is a legend.
When you compare the price and battery life and all that goodness as a package deal, i just feel for most people the GH6 is such a no brainer. LIke yes autofocus and picture quality along with low light will be nice, but for the price, you just cant beat the value of the GH6
Supreme letterman + R5C! Kai flexin' in these streets.
While this was filmed on a Sony it’s so hard to tell them apart when they switched. We live in a great time to have these beast at our disposal that is for sure. Not really sure who this camera is for, ppl that are true cinema shooters are complaing about lack of hdmi and built in nd’s, while run and guns are complaing about no ibis, size, battery life etc. i just switched to Sony with the a7iv and a7siii so I will not be able to get this camera but happy with my decision.
filmed on a Panasonic.
Can you get your hands on a BMPCC 6k Pro and show it in an overkill Vlog-like setup? I love your approach to reviews and I think it will be a fantastic take on it.
Kai quotes: "Raw is good, unless it's raw chicken"; "Is your face 8k ready". I am a fan, thank you.
Thanks for the hands-on video, Kai! Could you please confirm if it’s possible to turn the cooling fan on in the photo mode? It could be useful for long exposures (astrophotography).
Wow, apparently Canon really scaled back who they gave the camera to. Only a few videos this time. Congratulations Kai for the scoop!
so good to watch your videos kaiman!
I'm flinching every time Kai swings that C70 around. Yow.
Utterly delightful review again, Kai. Are you in Hong Kong or UK? Xièxiè, dòjeh anyway. Cheers from the States!
UK. Thanks!
that canon 7 is the real star of the show 😩😍
Hey man, great review. One note, I'm not sure what camera was used for filming you, but the rolling shutter is very bad to the point the video becomes nauseating to watch, just something to think about.
He's entertaining. Hey what happens when you have wind driven rain and those permanently opened fan vents?
I had no idea Dan Chung was filming you until the very end! Man I haven't seen that dude since Steadicam workshop in 2012. But anyways thanks for the review! It helped me decide to NOT purchase the R5, but rather wait for a hybrid setup like the R5C.
Thanks for the review "That Camera Guy". To be honest I've watch a ton of your videos, but it would take a while to remember your actual name.
Finally a review for this camera!😃👍🏼
Thanks Good Review Kai! I have both R5 and C70. But I buy R5C. I'm worried about DR and HDMI.
Would love to see more Canon content in the future. Great video as always
Without internal ND this isn’t gonna work for me.. And I think R5 owners won’t be to sad for that ugly bigger version x) .. C70 for Cine anyways.. honestly I’m underwhelmed.. it’s an R5 with a fan
without IBIS, too.
Fx3 effect
Without genlock too
I'm happy I got the C70 in a black friday deal
This camera looks awesome
I just want to know what camera Ikea Lance was shooting with and see some comparison video he recorded of Kai tho
I'm here to see the R5C reviews. But my eyes just kept looking at Kai's jacket. Looks very nice.
I love the chunk at the back
Makes it look extra pro
I got motion sickness watching this video. I could count each and every step your cameraman took, so much shakiness and so many out of focus shots and extra blurriness etc.
Keyan Prince in the Background 👑👑
9:38 i was, like, "forget about that Canon whatever...what camera is THAT?" upon closer look, it's a Yashica Samurai x3.0...wow i never knew this camera even existed.
Love the “Supreme” letterman’s jacket. I’d send you mine, but it’s big enough to fit two Kais. Because that is your name, I know it, because I’ve been following you work since the OG days in HK.
Never knew about that Yashica Samurai, what a cute and quirky little unique SLR!
Man. That jacket must've been a Christmas present :) Enjoyed.
A very lovely video 📹 ❤ 😊
On Oxford Street?
That IKEA guy had a Yashica ???? Wow
Great review, it's a huge camera for sure! I thought my sony a7r iv was big, but this? Probably not ideal for street photography. But more for studio work.
the delay in switching modes I believe it's because you had the auto sensor cleaning on didn't you?
even the Kai W got a dream lens now !
Nice to hear Dan again, behind the camera.
I still think Video cams for Video production and not all of this "add bits on" too a DSLR form factor.
Call me old fashioned.
1:15 I guess it may go faster after turn off the automatic cleaning when turns off.
Kai's reviews gives me such a nostalgic feeling
Good review, thought the video looked very good.
The camera slung behind your back came so close to poles etc in this video! 😮
That jacket Kai is hard 👏🏼
Good review! OK, not camera-related, but the long hair looks good, Kai. Grow it even longer! Cheers from Toronto!
p.s. Been to London twice (2018, 2019) and love the place, also notice Big Ben is finally pulling his/her skirt down!
4:59 that's why i dont use the camera hanging that way when i am walking around. OUCH!
Was a lens hit against a wall at 5:00??
I went to the comments to see if anyone else noticed lol
Holy crap. Finally an upgrade for my 1DC
Finally Canon review !! after a long time lol
Kai: "The lack of NDs doesn't make it any less of a cinema camera".
Narrator: "It did".
Make a video about the Canon 7 and the 50/0.95 please!
Will see what I can do.
That ikea guys shooting a Yashica Samurai, I didnt think anyone still used those!!
The DREAM LENS !! And the Canon 7 !! Please do a vid about that Kai ! I've got one !
Fortunately I still do need the R5 more since I'm photo first and I shoot in shorter burst for videos
@@Ohyehah wrong. Just like the s1h, the vents don’t compromise weather sealing. They’re not open to the inside of the camera.
It doubting it ability to shoot amazing photos and Video but I think it was a weird choice to include the Photo/Video switch in that way. One of the most useful feature of my Sony A1 and A7iv is the ability to be in photo mode and with the click of a customizable button I can instantly be shooting video too.
Ahhhhhhhhh, looking at the R5C next to the C70 makes me wish I hadn’t pulled the trigger on the C70 at the beginning of last month. 😭 I love the C70 and all but the R5C has the small form factor I’ve been wishing for. Ah well. I’ve seen lots of folks gripe about what the R5C doesn’t have but my only beef is the lack of built-in NDs.
I've dropped cash on a C70 for video then an R5 as my photography camera, definitely feel I should have waited on that R5 purchase as it was only about 3 weeks before I heard about the R5C
This just cemented my decision on buying a Lumix s1h.
I would love a lot more R5 / RF lens videos 🙌🏻✨ I do almost entirely photos and picked up 2x R5
Great review as always, Kai! You are really one of the most enjoyable sources of camera information on youtube.
Canon however makes me scratch my head with this one. Why remove IBIS, put the off switch between video and photo mode so it takes ages to switch between the modes and make it incapable of AF when recording in cinema RAW if you have a normal LP-E6? Canon find the most strange ways to cripple their cameras to not disrupt their lineup.
It's simple, keep their R5 and c70 relevant. Canon aren't in the business of pleasing their customers
This cam will propel many careers
Really appreciate Kai with the supreme varsity drip.
While others just talk about it you take it and use it nice job 👏
It seems the camera is running two different operating systems. When switching between photos and video it appears that the selection switch boots up the selected operating system.
i was pretty interested in that Yashica footage
"IS YOUR FACE 8K READY?!"
"yeah yeah it's alright"
Kai, nice jacket. Great vid
Looking forward to this review 👍
"and that battery lasts about 2 seconds" omg dead
is it weird to think that the C70 is still a better option as a "workhorse" camera? because of battery life and built-in ND's? Is the IBIS identical on the C70 vs R5C? (great videos Kai!!)
