    This has 100% been my experience. I started my channel off by being incredibly niche. I was doing cinematic reviews, with an ASMR twist, of Zoom handheld recording devices. I didn't just want to do that forever though, so once my channel started getting some traction, around 400 views/day from search, suggested, browse features, I decided to niche up. I started peppering in camera reviews, and lens reviews, and the channel started doing even better.
    I would have had a really hard time getting into the filmmaking niche from scratch, as it is really saturated, but by starting off in a much smaller niche, I was able to expand my content later on, whilst also expanding my viewership.

    Thank you for letting the incoming crowd know that this is actual work. I find it mildly entertaining on how so many new creators (as i am one) think this is a switch they turn on and now they are killing it. This is a grind, and not for the meek.

    This is one of your best videos, you often say things that no one says. I cant understand why is so hard for many people to understand that you can turn your art and passions into a profitable source understanding the business side of it. As if we all werent result of a well marketed niche currently or on our earlier years. Gracias Roberto.

    Gosh man you put it so forward it's amazing. You're right though this is a passion + business and all businesses have the fun and not fun parts depending on what you like or are good at. There are bound to be some tedious tasks that don't excite us as much (like the process of video editing or maybe the time it takes to render videos, maybe doing social media updates, etc.), but those details matter a lot to and we can't walk off those details because they excite us less. Not if we want to be serious, engaging, and excelling while we expand.
    That's why I decided before to niche down for my own categories and audience, I understand the power of focused and targeted content with concentrated attention given by users who come for a very specific type and format of content served to them. It works better (especially starting) and people will see you as an authority in that area so it's better for building brands and audience loyalty as well. Instead of being everywhere with no focus (fluid, little sense of direction, known for everything so known for nothing), you can be in one place with all the focus (solid, reliable, trustworthy).

    I got to admit, niching down has helped me SO much more on this new channel compared to my old channel. I opened this channel on Jan 2nd 2022 by chance and with only 2 months in, I have already received over my first 1000 watched hours, my first 400 subs and a ton of views. Niching down and sticking to it has helped me so much. Browse and Search have been my top ranking. I gave up a channel where I was on there for 1.5 years. I had to admit to myself that I wasn't going to get monetized if I kept up with that channel. I gained a great community but I also have that big goal of monetization. Niching down DOES work and I am confident I will be monetized on this channel.

    Hi Roberto, I have been watching your videos years ago when you were first starting out. That time I was following a blogger whose taught wordpress hacks and you were a frequent commenter. When you said you wanted to do it full time, it seemed impossible then. Look how you have become and thank you for the value you are providing🙏
    I can't niche down even in my blogs 🤣. And yes, you are right, random videos don't work if someone is serious about UA-cam as a business. Making UA-cam videos provide me a respite as a caregiver and UA-cam gives me a platform to express what I felt had to be said to people who are intended to hear it.

    I'm slowly but surely trying to niche down (it's HARD when you've made variety content videos for years and years!!!). But it's bighting me in the ass currently -- I feel a few "old-timers" are probably Xing out because I've gone more focused in one area. But it's a risk I'm willing to take because I was so sick of making content for years and seeing a massive sudden stunt in my growth which lasted about four years. It's about time I do something about it. It's a mourning process too... I do miss my old way/creative flow of making videos all over the place.

    This really relates to the situation going on with my channel. I grew to 7k+ subscribers doing videos over MBTI/16 Personalities, but over the past year, since I launched my channel, I’m completely burnt out. I’ve lost all passion for the subject as each video felt more and more like a chore to make. So I’ve entered my “experimental” phase, doing comedic and commentary-style videos (areas I’m more passionate about) to see how well my audience responds to them. Just feeling lost right now and awful that I can’t deliver the content my audience subscribed for (as well as alienating them with my new content). I’d like your two cents if you happen to see this comment (though I feel a lot of my problems have been addressed in this video). I’ve been subscribed to your channel for years, and I’ve tried my best to take all your advice.

      I feel your pain! It sucks when you've invested so much into one thing only to feel burnt out by it and to need to stop for your own sanity. I don't have advice; only understanding.

    Hey Roberto, I love your channel! This is quite possibly my hardest thing. I'm starting off with a small/medium built-in following but I feel like it's so hard to niche. Do you recommend making a "viewer persona", like thinking of your ideal viewer and what they would watch?

    • @RobertoBlake
      @RobertoBlake  2 роки тому +3

      It can definitely help a lot. Viewer persons can help you focus on who to serve

    Immense value in this video, I really appreciate the amount of information you're giving out and not hiding it behind an over priced UA-cam course. Been watching your videos for about a year now and I am extremely grateful. I learn something new and take away so much from your vids. Thank you!

    Thank you Robert o I do enjoy what i do like now, but i have some peoples asking me to change the Niche, and say them want to see me in nature in Norway. Some of them even get so mad about the color and other things or saying to me " why i not fallow the market, or hearing them. Is been so hard on me. I am so confused. I glad you made this vdeo.. thank you!

    Hi Roberto, great video - At the start you said don't make yourself the niche, what if I was a musician trying to make content on UA-cam - would the genre/style I'm making music for be the niche? Perhaps I should be making vlog content around that?

    • @RobertoBlake
      @RobertoBlake  2 роки тому +1

      It’s more that I would think of a way to make the best and most interesting content possible that would be a vehicle for my music and tap into the interest of current culture

    Staying in my niche (arcade) feels more authentic than random stuff just for views.
    I will say that branching out within my niche (doing arcade tours in addition to arcade gameplay) seems to have been refreshing, both for me (nice to do something a bit different) and for my audience (the tours have done much better than I expected).

    I've always stuck to a wide niche (basketball), but like trying out different types of things within basketball. As in, tutorials, games, challenges etc. Something I didn't do at first, but am doing more of now, is to double down on what works...

    The riches are in the niches. Unfortunately there are way too many want to be “streetwear” brands that don’t understand this age old marketing tactic. Instead they make ego based 🗑 no one buys instead of researching and actually designing for a specific demographic. I spent 2 decades working as a creative director on Fortune 500 brands including experience at Vayner X. It’s unfortunate that the majority of people on social media have a bruised ego & lack of sales rather than designing for a demographic not themselves. They would rather promote a strange logo they personally like that no one understands rather than actually focusing on a brand voice / design for a specific demographic. That’s the biggest mistake…put your ego aside and actually create an art solution for a demographic not what you think is personally “cool”. It’s really not that hard but people are impatient and let their own ego get in the way. The truth is in the analytics. 💯

    I have watched this 3 times in a year.. I don’t know how to fix my Niche.. I started vlogging I’m a not a family channel but share MY love and that’s Makeup, Hauls, Crafts& Vlogs … I did move my gardening & Cooking to a different channel but do I do this for everything? That seems excessive but would love your opinion! My channel has taken a hit the last 6 mo due to becoming friends.. ended friendships and want to move on but they are multiplying but i wont feed them and grinding harder then I ever have! Thank you for helping me through this journey … it’s been a wild year fosho ❤
