Roberto, the last tip, make shareable content resonated with me. Please make a video on that. I like the tip but my question is how do you do that?! And once you make the videos, where do you share them to get the best results. I'm not expecting to go viral overnight, but I do want it to be somewhat measurable.

I started youtube last year and the mistakes you've mentioned are exactly what I've done. Now, I'm growing tremendously with over 2k+ subs and 200 watch hours away from monetization! The thing that helps me most is to not pay attention to numbers, Continue, take a step back and critique yourself, find your niche, be yourself and upload regularly will makes the journey so much fun and easier!

Being respectful of time is so important! There is a creator I recently unsubbed from. Initially watched a few videos that I thought offered value, but then I started to see he could have taken 1/3 of the time he did and got the same points across. I always compliment your channel on this!

In my experience assisting UA-camrs in growing their Channels, the three most important things BY FAR that everybody fails to do is create captivating thumbnails/titles, pick a content niche that'll have high demand yet low competition, and make videos that will retain viewers for long watch sessions. If you do those three things you can easily hit 100K your first year and in rare cases even your first month.

    • @Kyotosomo
      @Kyotosomo 3 роки тому +22

Although as Roberto mentioned if you don't see immediate success it's not a big deal, hell it took me almost a decade to figure out what I was doing.

I like the #realtalk because for me, seeing other people in my niche surpass my numbers can be discouraging. Forcing myself to edit for 4-6 hours when I start to wonder if it will ever "work out for me" is discouraging. But you know what? That's part of the journey. Knowing that I feel this way sometimes, and it's not always a walk in the park will make it all the more rewarding when I succeed. And I believe that having that mindset sets me up for success long term.

I’ve been on the platform since late 2017 but didn’t really get serious until 2019. Thanks for the advice. I just started a youtube channel a little over a month ago. Everything you speak about is so true. Becoming a new youtube content creator is like growing from a newborn baby to a toddler. You have to crawl before you can walk. There is so much to learn from youtube. Finally, to me, the most important information I can give to new youtube creators (like myself) is to find something you enjoy talking about and have fun. Believe me, when you enjoy what you are talking about, the viewers will notice that as well, and some may become loyal subscribers.

There is so much value in understanding the community/genre you plan in joining. Understanding the common criticisms amongst those creators and also understand what they do well. While its important to always to just start, I think there needs to be a bit of planning prior. TITLES THUMBNAILS TRAFFIC AND TAGS (Or key words in description, just used tags for the memorability) are the 4 T's to a successful video.

Fantastic tips. Consistency is a tricky one, because when your channel is not growing, you feel demotivated and don't feel like making content, and that results in your channel not growing, and then you feel demotivated and... It can easily become a vicious circle.

  • @ConsistentAsh

It's super important for us to know our audience, make good quality content. Copyright is the one thing that will hurt the channel. I don't want to be like one of the bigger UA-camrs. I want to be my own kind of UA-camr. I do agree. We don't have the right to just ditch because growing takes long. I have posted maybe over 50 videos now and 16 live streams. I still have a long way to go even after 1 year of being into this. I am not discouraged and I look forward to this journey. It's a marathon not a sprint.

I started doing UA-cam in 2009 and made a lot of mistakes. Even got a channel deleted when I was just starting to make money. In May 2017 I made this channel and grew to 7k in six months because I learned from my mistakes. I’ve taken my subscribers to twitch and my podcast, made merch. Got a few brand deals. I had a slump that stomped my growth because my apartment got shot up and my brother was killed and the apartment threw away all the equipment I bought over the years. This is where the endurance came in, I used what I had to keep my channel going (IPhone 7). I was able to take a break and get my mental together this year while not making videos or streaming but still having that passive income coming in. I’ll come back better than ever now because I found a part time job making the same money as when I was a produce manager just working on weekends. I now have five days to record, edit, and perfect my quality and thumbnails. Also a lot of my success I because of watching Roberto. Thanks bro

I will hit my 2 year mark with my channel this November and I now have a little over 2.4K subs. I can see where I’ve improved greatly in that amount of time in terms of making my content more concise, better editing, and the addition of artistic flourishes. But…my growth has slowed down considerably recently and that has caused analysis paralysis and has made me less motivated to create. I also haven’t nailed the title and thumbnail game. I get many people telling me I should have more views and subs. I recently told my husband that I’ll be giving up my channel when I hit my 2 year mark, so at least I can say I gave it the “old college try” 😁. I think I’ve been doing “too much research.” I’m so scared of making too many mistakes that I’ve taken so many notes, constantly reevaluating my niche, writing scripts, creating timelines, building relationships with other creators within my niche and making plans as if I’ve already started my channel. When I say this, I mean building a team (editor, videography, marketing rep). Granted, they know I haven’t started yet but they are right there for when I need them. I just can’t start until I know I’m able to be consistent. I’m beyond dedicated but never feel ready. I know its 99% that I’m scared and 1% OCD. I'm going to get it together lol. I have watched quite a bit of your channel content and thanks so much for the presentation as well. I was hoping to ask you more about revenue streams for music and dance related channels as that is what I have here. It is not my own music that I promote on the channel but rather other artists, some I work with personally and others whose songs appear in the videos through the fact that I film social dance and cultural interactions. But would love to hear some thoughts on that. Keep up the good work.

As someone who has been watching UA-cam videos for many years, one of my biggest pet peeves is long, drawn out intros and outtros ugh!
So I’m really glad that you brought this up because it helps me to remember that as I get ready to launch my own UA-cam channel.
Another huge pet peeve of mine is when a video has long, drawn out ADS in the middle of the video; ESPECIALLY when it’s completely unrelated to the content that I’m trying to watch!
I’m very impressed with and appreciative of how you briefly and appropriately slipped in an ad that is directly related to this video’s content! I don’t remember ever seeing any other content creator doing this this smoothly and I LOVE IT!
IMHO you’re the king of what to do right because you don’t sugarcoat anything and keep it real, while providing excellent content that is extremely helpful for us newbies ☺️
Before I started really paying close attention to your videos about content creation, I had started a “simple, no-frills (or editing) one-take” channel, thinking that I was presenting content that fit my channel’s theme and purpose; basically a vlog where I talked about life as a disabled person; no editing, no thumbnail (except for the generic one automatically placed of my dumb face talking on the video 😂), and not well planned or thought out titles 😬
So yeah, it flopped and I even moved all of my handful of embarrassingly bland videos to “private” and left a message in the “about” section how I was putting my channel on hold and would be basically starting it over again (rebranding it).
It’s probably been more than a year since then and I haven’t even checked to see if my 10 subscribers (all peopleI know personally) are even still subscribed to it or not.
I still want to restart the channel, but right now I’m working on creating content that’s music-based, but will include an element of storytelling that ties into the music, and don’t know if I should rebrand my existing channel around this new concept or start from scratch.
I always appreciate when content creators ask for feedback from their viewers; I want to do this too so I can build my channel on the foundation of what my audience actually want to see.
I’m building my concept based upon the feedback I’ve received over the years and want to do it better than I did on my first attempt at a channel, so I really appreciate your videos on what to do and what NOT to do here on UA-cam ☺️
    Thank you!

I have heard a lot of this stuff before since I follow other channels but the one tidbit that really grabbed me was the one about not copying big channels. That is a huge huge temptation to me because I can be impatient, but slowly, I'm getting comfortable with the fact that this will take time and I don't need to rush.

Hi Roberto. I first started watching your content when I was a copywriter at the company where I currently work. This was about 5 or so years ago and I was searching for advice on building a UA-cam countdown channel out of my company's blog content. I was transferred to another department after 2 years in that role so that never went anywhere, however I decided that I would try my hand at building my own UA-cam page in the craft space, specifically cardboard craft and paper art. I rediscovered your content about two or so weeks ago when you came up in suggested as I was watching a Vanessa Lau video. I have to say that your content is the most helpful, practical, and timely I have see thus far in the niche of growing a UA-cam channel. I am slowly making my way through the How To Start a UA-cam Channel playlist and it's just gem after gem. I truly appreciate the work you have done here and I appreciate all the no BS advice you share. Much love and blessings from Brooklyn, NY.

I felt the chasing the bigger youtubers and mindset statement. I went in having the biggest expectations with my channel and when those expectations didn’t happen I felt as though my channel would never grow or go anywhere. I realized my expectations was unrealistic and as a newbie coming in you have to put in the work, stay consistent and not get so down on yourself when you don’t have you the views or your not getting the subscribers. It’s about staying motivated and doing what you can and also working with what you have until you can afford to upgrade on things you need such as a camera and lighting. This was awesome. Thanks for this!!!

Also it ties into Tip #15 because my avg shares on videos is around 20 per 1000 views which exploded some of my videos already helping me get 150 subs in 7 weeks since i started uploading. The part about having a specific focus really relates to the situation going on with my channel. I grew to 3k+ subscribers doing videos over MBTI/16 Personalities, but over the past 7 months, since I launched my channel, I’ve almost completely burnt out. I’ve lost almost all passion for the subject as each video felt more and more like a chore to make. So I’ve entered my “experimental” phase, doing comedic and commentary-style videos (areas I’m more passionate about) to see how well my audience responds to them. I told them I would return to making MBTI videos when I felt that passion again. Just feeling lost right now and awful that I can’t deliver the content my audience subscribed for.

Roberto, new viewer here watching in Octobeer of 2021. I'm learning as much as I can in hopes of starting a channel soon, and for me, the channels I appreciate most and go back to are the ones that stay in their lane. I can tell from their titles what the content really will be, and I learn things from them all the time. I lose patience with people whose titles are click bait with nothing of quality to back them up and whose subjects are all over the map just so they can upload more frequently.

I've learned over time that the psychological needs of the channels population is very important as well. If you are a mental health Channel like mine, I have to package content in a way that relieves that stress rather than adds to it with unstructured, confusing, overly lengthy, and dense content. All my audience wants is authenticity, honesty, and good quality.

Now I uploaded a video last week about should product creators be public speakers, I uploaded it and it bombed, I did a short video about public speaking yesterday and it bombed too. So I quickly unlisted them before they hurt my channel too badly. I had to kill my darlings. I figured I can recover from two less video, but I may confuse the algorithm if I start to upload something that is clearly not part of my niche for my channel.
