Tried listening to this without watching and it truly sounded like the ravings of a madman
I got absurdly lucky on my first run after the tutorial and managed to beat ante 8. (My first joker was the one that increased its sell value every turn, and then I got the joker that absorbs the sell value of the card to the right as a multiplier, so I had a constant +30 multiplier very early, then got straights to only require 4 cards and able to skip a number, and the x3 for repeating a hand) This game is just so satisfying when the pieces come together!
That sounds so insane lol this game is immediately addicting as hell, really like how it pushes you to specialize on one type of hand just absolutely bonkers.

Just beat it after 7 hours of playtime 😅 Had an awesome set up with a red joker with a mult of 75 and every card acting as a face card + every face card getting bonuses. It landed reliable 20 to 30k per turn! Incredibly lucky combination.

I've also been addicted to this game. I've beaten the "final" round a few times with a couple of decks (standard and green), but also lost a whole lot of runs. The key for me seems to be money management. Obviously the green deck changes things up a bit - but with others I find it incredibly difficult to balance spending early to get a good build going vs saving to earn essential interest so I can afford more cards later on when the ante gets higher.
Yes, this game is living in my head. Yes, everybody needs to try it. Even if you aren't usually into deckbuilders, try this game. Plenty of people who bounced off the likes of Slay the Spire have been hooked by this gem. I really hope the dev/publisher gets the rating issue sorted out (that whole mess is ridiculous), so this game is more easily accessible in countries outside the US once again. Such a great game. Thank you for shining a spotlight on it.
ETA quick tip: Jokers affect your score in order (left to right) so pay attention to where you place them and drag to rearrange as needed. In this video, you put a joker that added 50 chips (and later, 100 chips!) far to the right, so it got factored in *after* the multipliers. You would have gotten far better scores if that joker has been on the far left. Order matters!
I beat the "final" round finally after owning the game for a few days. It was 2am and I had work in the morning. Got to the completion menu and saw it said "Endless Mode press Y". I pressed Y.
@@jearl2518 I have it on good authority (my brain) that it is impossible *not* to press Y. Even if it only extends my run by a few more moments... I will always press Y.
People compare this game to poker but the best comparison is actually video poker, which is barely like poker and specifically illegal in some places and you can tell why. :P (Full disclosure: Balatro is my current GOTY lol)

Thing is with the switch is that you have your blockbuster type games and then when a sale hits you pick up a game from 2017 you desperately want to rave about it 🤣 I swear I have over 100 switch games now, I just can’t help myself when it’s sale!

I'm finding a weird divide in comments section on videos featuring this game. I legitimately think there are is not insignificant amount of gamers who don't know how to play poker. So this game isn't really for them, but they are pissed that it's so popular. I'm trying to figure out why there are so many gamers who don't know how to play poker. It's weird.
Because Poker is an old game that old people play, millenials and genz grew up with video games so they didn't have the needs to learn how to play card games growing up

The funny thing is this game isn't even that much like poker. There are *so* many ways to modify your deck that it's more similar to something like Slay the Spire. Don't get me wrong, I love poker and have played it since childhood (for chips, never for real money). But this game does a great job ensuring you don't actually need to know how to play poker to enjoy it. You just need to learn the names/types of poker hands - and there's a handy list accessible with the click of a single button.
Also, fun fact: The developer of Balatro doesn't even play poker. They said this game was actually inspired by a somewhat similar Cantonese game called "Big Two." Which most of us have likely never played (though my spouse grew up playing it and watching it be played at family gatherings in Malaysia - he's also never played poker, but recognizes the hand list based on Big Two, or "dai di," as he calls it).

@@xenos_n. This is not a "let's play" channel. The audience they have built up doesn't want to watch someone just playing a game for *over 30 minutes*. Totally fine to create a separate space for that, but this is a bad move for people that expect actual thoughtfulness and quality.
