A cool thing about credit card is small interaction with the spectral card that summons a rare joker but sets your money to 0, so if you're on negative it's actually gaining you money
Also with the boss that sets money to 0$ when you play a specific hand. If you have negative money when you fight him, he actually gives you money when you play the hand
Fun fact about the idol: it can only pick a card that is in your deck. That means that it is useful if your deck is thin and/or has mostly copies of the same few cards.
I mean that's great on paper, but even if your deck is 50% comprised of Ace of Spades, you can't rely on it to apply to that card consistently enough to not just randomly die.
@@kman6004 main usage for idol seems to be late game runs where the whole deck is a single card, like kings of hearts, where sock and buskin (and red seals) can retrigger the 2x effect for lots of score
I'm so glad I found a content creator who doesn't neglect the value of chips jokers, I was going crazy over people dismissing them entirely for mult multipliers. Great video, I'm still trying to complete my first gold run, got stuck there on both Abandoned and Checkered deck
I've found burnt joker early can basically completely replace a chip joker. Scaling high card or pair 10-15 chips per round and the 1 mult per round is not as good as other flat mult scaling but is still a bonus. Around ante 6-7 you can also dump it without losing any of the scaling. Its one of my favorites to find!
Adding flat mult directly on the base multiplier is also significantly better than a lot of other flat mult sources with certain 'when played / scored' interactions like bloodstone, steel and glass cards which bumps it up a bit. Being able to sling in a Glass card particularly for x2 on top of your flat scaling instead of before it is pretty nutty. Like you say, your flat chips / mult source (or one of a couple) being sellable for lategame fights is incredibly powerful - similarly very powerful with the two copy jokers because you can double dip on your burnt joker, then rearrange to copy something useful after the first discard.
its also amazing with copies- you can copy the effect with brainstorm and then move in a relevant scoring joker to copy instead, I got pair up to level 60 by doing this once
One fun gimmick about Mr Bones is the very rare scenario where you manage to bring it to ante 8's boss, it reduces the final blind to 1/4th of what it's supposed to be and will make you close out the run very easily. But it's very inconsistent because you need to find it in the shop immediately after ante 7 if you don't want to run a dead joker all the way through. So I still agree with the D tier ranking but I used that strategy to get an unlikely victory and wanted to bring it up.
I'm an admitted Madness truther; yeah, it sucks if it's not your first Joker, and you really need a reliable set of Eternals to make it work, but I can't not love how dumb the card can get when the stars align.
some days ago on stream he got an insanely cursed madness run where he basically kept barely winning every single round with 4 random eternals picked for necessity, every single draw and trigger based on rng activated at the right time to keep the run alive and it was ridiculous and the ending was some of the funniest shit I've ever seen, I really really really hope he makes it into a video because that run was insane
i was a madness hater until it got me my first gold stake win and now im with you on this, as long as you manage to get some +mult and +chip eternal it can basically carry the run

Blueprint should be in its own tier because it's better than just copying your best joker... It copies the best joker contextually. I was absolutely using it to double up on stone cards added to my deck at the start of round, then sliding it over to my best multiplier, or, given the hand, sliding it over to the best multiplier for that hand. It is INSANELY good.
I was playing the mad world challenge where you get an eternal copy of pareidolia and I ended up getting Midas and vampire, so every hand just ended up buffing vampire by x1 mult. Ended up getting x50 mult on the vampire haha
About sacrificial dagger. You don't actually need to sacrifice a joker every turn to keep it. If you don't want it to proc you can put it to the right most spot when selecting the blind and put it back further left before playing your first hand. It won't scale up when you do this but at least it means you can consistantly keep it without permanently hurting your eco
Its bad one cause it force you to invest to much to be good. It really trap you cause if you have it early it force you to invest to much eco on it. You can't take it before having + interest, and it dont scale fast enouth to be playable from the mid game.
Ceremonial dagger would be much better if it destroyed a card on the left. You generally want to have +mult on the left. And combination riff-raff + dagger would be more interesting. Just a random thought I had after reading your comment
@@laurentgayno5550 not saying it's good, I'm just saying that you don't HAVE to feed it a joker every turn like he said on the video. You can just feed it a joker once in a while when you have nothing better to do with your money ( which admittedly doesn't happen a lot in gold stakes). If you treat it this way, it's more like a better version of the red card (but still d tier I agree) I just wanted to correct the mistake he made in the video
@@gosunov It would be the same, you can just put your dagger next to the card you want to destroy when selecting the blind and then move it wherever you want while playing your hand. I agree with the riffraff combination though it would be cool that way
Also if you sacrifice an egg that you've kept for just 2 rounds you already have +14 mult (on par with abstract joker) without needing to invest anything more. A bit situationnal but it IS a use case that DOES occur without you having to specifically set it up
7:47 A couple small things i think should be noted about Burglar: If you move your "Blueprint" or "Brainstorm" jokers to be on "Burglar" when you start the round, it adds 3 more hands without any downsides PLUS you can then move them back onto other cards so that they can be used for score or whatnot, and you'll still keep the extra hands. Also! "Burglar" will give you +3 hands even on the "The Needle" Boss Blind, which is a GAME CHANGER.
I really like Riff Raff. Its both economy and early scaling both in one package. After getting your engine up you can just sell it and it practically pays for itself.
It’s also pretty much the only Joker in the game that lets you consistently dig for more Jokers. A lot of commons are crap, but some of them like Green Joker are pretty much going to solve your early game scaling. Also it feeds Sac Dagger, but that one’s a meme card
@@lancesmith8298I’ve seen people shit on Sacrificial Dagger, but it was my main mult joker combined with Wee Joker and the aforementioned Riff Raff in my first orange stake win
haven't made it to gold stake yet but even as low as black stakes, my runs reflect what you're saying here. Though I would personally drop ancient joker a tier just because its suit doesn't reflect your deck's suits; other random suit jokers like castle will only ask for a suit your deck already has in it. Why yes, I do take it as a personal affront every time it shows up in my checkered deck runs instead of literally any other rare joker, particularly when I've taken the rare joker skip tag
My favorite interagtion is between any bluprint and the burglar (and other in between blind jokers). So if you don't forget to move your jokers before selecting blind you get +6 hands.
B is a good rating for it since b still means good. Gold stakes having less discards and etc makes it riskier to go for burnt joker. Definitely A or S in normal runs though
I wouldn't unerestimate Dagger so much! Since it does its thing at a very specific time (when blind is selected) and always to the joker to the right of it, you can use it to kill jokers you want out *anyway*, then move it when selecting the blind so it doesn't kill anything. It's especially strong with specific jokers like Gift or Egg, which turn it into an ad-hoc time-scaler.
Vagabond is by far my favorite joker to get in the game especially early on. Put a credit card in that boys pocket and you got yourself something special happening. (Even though in real life a true Vagabond would never stoop to getting a credit card, he would live off the land 😂).
One point in favor of madness is that unlike ritual dagger it scales even if it destroys nothing, I found that out the other day and thought wow that's nuts. Needless to say it can just carry a run if you get it early because of this and if you find some decent eternal cards to pair with it since you'll just be picking to play blinds with madness over almost every tag and will give more multiplicative scoring than almost every multiplicative joker in the game unless you have one of those sick runs where you get steel joker or something and are able to add tons of steel to your deck though steel is soft capped by cards in deck.
I've only beaten Gold Stake twice (still grinding out other decks), but To The Moon in D is *insane* to me since it was so important to those runs. Having $300 to roll for the joker to replace it means you can dig deep for options.
shortcut + four fingers is a sick combo actually, you can pretty consistently get straight flashes with it (since set of 4 cards that makes flash does not needs to be the same as the set of 4 cards that makes straight) and straight flash buffs extremely well with planet card (I also had voucher for getting planet for the most played hand, so I had 15 lvl of straight flash hitting every round)
Yeah I only learned today how good this card is for a straight flush build. If you do a 5 card straight with 4 suited cards, it will count as an SF even if the unsuited card is in the middle. Also when scoring straights, if your 5th card is a pair it will get scored too.
I usually go for 2 pair because there's a lot of jokers that buff it. Also because you're only playing 4 cards you can use the 5th card to ditch a card, play a stone card for extra chips, or use it as a free discard against the boss that makes you use a card.
Honestly imo going full house feels stronger because every card(that I can think of at least) that buffs 2 pair will also buff FH, 2 pair feels more of a backup imo
In gold stake - way harder to hit a house, if it's not a deck that is so clean flush houses became an option (eg. DNA/trading card decks, with two really nice DNA targets). Why you'd run that over high card or flush five options, I'm not sure though - pants once online is okay to ignore buffing, and most of the others aren't great. Blue seal can make a two pair run sing because the chip amounts are decent vs full houses.
@@blackjacktrial A lot of the 2 pair jokers work with full house, flush house, 5 of a kind, and flush five so you can pivot into those hands later. High card is also really good. You can either use splash or stone cards to get more points from playing your cards or you can load up on things like steel cards, baron, and mime. High card is also super
I love the video, definitely have to try out some jokers that I dismissed. One thing I wished you mentioned is the distinction between in-hand flat mult triggers and post-hand flat mult. The in-hand triggers work very well with steel/glass and sometimes the post-hand flat mult is ineffective when you have steel/glass working for you.
I've played this game a decent amount (~40 hours) but haven't managed to beat gold stake with any deck so it was super interesting to see some of these hot takes. Like Campfire is good? Vampire is good? WHAT?!?
Campfire is 100% good. You don’t need to sell a joker for it to work, you can simply purchase and sell tarot and planet cards to boost it, and it is incredible for Xmult
Excellent video, man. Giving scenarios for pretty much every joker was super helpful. Long video but explains how some of the jokers I usually pass by might be useful. Thank you!
Think I agree with almost everything you said. I also find that I cannot consistently build hands that require using 5 cards at gold stake, and so I value the more flexible hands and jokers that scale off those hands or fix their weaknesses a lot higher. These hands are rarely super high scoring hands (unless you hit the nuts with multipliers), but they get out of the early game way more consistently, which is the hardest part of the game imo, and can generally be less vulnerable to boss blinds. Btw small note: you use the word undervalued when you mean underpowered I think. Undervalued is usually opposite to underpowered. It threw me off a little when you'd say that after talking about a joker you clearly don't value highly.
First of all, I have to say your dedication in order to rate all 150 jokers is incredible. Secondly, I have to respect your disclaimer that you are rating the joker cards based mostly on how useful they are to you on the gold chip run. I have yet to beat ante 8 and play so far mostly with the red or blue deck, so I am taking what you say on faith. The insights you provide are invaluable. As far as my own observations:It has been my experience that the face card related jokers all sync with each other. On their own they're not super powerful, but if you can manage to get two or three of them together they make powerful combos. Gold joker is incredible to build up money quickly and afford the stuff in the shop early when you're usually hurting for money. Jokers that give you a x bonus rather than a + bonus are hard to find and are indispensable.
Not sure what you mean by ceremonial forcing you to play down a joker each hand - you can stop it with eternals or by putting it to the right which allows you to pick and choose when to sac with it, which makes it better than madness imo. Also it scales well with joker generation methods or with jokers that increase sell value.
yea but then you’re not scaling it, so it’s either good scaling at -1 joker or no scaling at full jokers. I think he still underrated it, but it’s undeniably niche
@@maruke305the scaling buff is permanent, and when it comes to +mult jokers, you only really need to upgrade them in the early game. Once you pivot towards Xmult in the late game it’s good to have a solid +mult but you don’t really need to buff it constantly.
@@michaelbecker7288 yea but on golden stake where the blind scaling is absurd I find it’s better to have a joker like a Gros Michel, Abstract Joker, Ride the Bus, or a Fortune Teller which can either scale quickly while having 5 jokers or give a solid amount without needing extra work to scale. Overall it’s not a D tier joker, but it’s definitely lower than a BUNCH of other +mult jokers. Edit: Like if we consider +15 mult as a baseline, and if you’re only sacrificing $2 sell value jokers, you’re still spending 4 blinds at -1 joker and constantly losing money just to be on par. that’s not the best rate.
Ceremonial Dagger works great with Riff-Raff (which is relatively easy to obtain). The only downside - you really need 4 joker spaces for this combination to work well and one joker slot is always free in your hand
You can have ceremonial dagger always on the right before entering a blind and then move it in a different direction if you don't want to scale it anymore. It's definetly NOT a D tier if you use it correctly.
Flower pot and that one card that counts spades as clibs and hearts as diamons and vice versa is a pretty good synergy, allowing you to hit the 3x more easily (at the risk of having galf your sweets disabled from a boss blind)
Wouldn't it be easier to rank the jokers by function? Like do one tier list for money jokers, another for chips, a third one for additive mult, a fourth about multiplicative mult, and a final one for miscellaneous jokers?
If you understand when each joker type is best utilized (additive mult early, money early-mid, chips and mult mult mid-late) then you can synthesize those disparate tier lists into a general gameplan
I mean, you can make multiple tier list videos for various functions but this one is specifically for how good the jokers are for allowing you to clear Gold Stake ante 8. There’d have to be different videos for low stake endless jokers and so on.
Anyone with the wiki could do what you suggest but as Roffle has a lot of experience completing the game on the hardest difficulty he is sharing his insights on what gets you there.
I won't pretend I'm a master at the game and I'm still seeking my first gold stake win. Beat Orange stake a couple days back and am grinding away. Videos like this are very helpful. Thank you.
The game mustve changed alot since this came out. Like 90% of my gold stake runs have been straights or flushes. Runner best joker. SSSS tier. I love him.
i get the reasoning with the lucky cat joker but when it works it’s a fun gimmick build. i got it one time and played with a ton of red seal lucky cards and the dice joker and it got up to like x10 or something it was a fun one
I think you underrate red card, I think it allows you to open especially tarot packs in the $8-$9 range looking for hermit, temperence, and fool that you wouldn't normally have the freedom to do. Makes it so skipping for the mult becomes the floor if those options aren't there (or whatever other options your particular build favors). You don't play it looking to skip every (expensive) pack, you look at it sort of like abstract joker where it will be good enough through the midgame and you won't be too upset keeping +21 mult or so in the late if you must.
I haven't even got all decks so I'm very new to Balatro. But my first legendary was Perkeo and I got my first blueprint on the same run. I don't need to tell you it was ridiculous. Easy win.
Bootstraps + Seed Money or the interest joker (or both) is able to completely solve the flat mult part of the equation on its own. And while the joker isn't too common, Seed Money honestly is, and with Seed Money maximised, you can genuinely just rely on Bootstraps for flat mult. Bootstraps should imo at least B tier because imo it's the best flat mult scaler if you have Seed Money. For the same reason, Bull is also able to resolve your chips problem on its own as well if you have Seed Money or the interest joker. Burglar should be higher because while it should probably be in B tier normally, if you manage to Ankh it, it goes crazy. But sure, Ankhing it is a pure luxary, so it isn't a real use case. Guess what, Blueprint and Brainstorm can COPY it, if you put Burglar into position at the start of the round, essentially giving you 3 more hands for free. Honestly with Burglar + Blueprint/Brainstorm and some weak high card build, you can probably close your eyes and still win. It's crazy.
This list is sick. Hey I have crippling ADHD and need video like this to get me through workouts. Can you rank all the tags from the blind skips? Thanks, my gain also thank you
Oh a tags tier list would actually be extremely useful, I think you could also rate them separately based on if its a first blind skip or an average skip, too
my best run ever involved the blackboard and brainstorm jokers doubling the constellation joker. i also had the free planet card and pack joker. granted being able to tripple up any strong joker goes nuts
Agree +/- half a tier on all but 3. I rate Riff Raff a lot more highly, as well as Sixth Sense and Trading Card. The ability of these jokers to do 2 things sumultaneously is awesome! Dont think it should affect the rating, but copies of Stencil 'see' each other for the effect - so if you can clone stencil its a great outcome.
18:45 if you see a spectral pack alwais pick this joker if you have a slot because if you find wraith and you are below 0 gold you gonna recover all the money
I definitely learned a lot from that video, thanks a lot! I also found funny that you're serious as a mortgage broker talking about cards in a niche videogame 😂
i think its unfair to be putting sock and buskin so low compared to hack when its better to build around face cards than 2-5, and also with how many face card jokers there are. id consider it possibly the best retrigger joker there is.
I'm curious to see what your tier list is now that a patch has changed certain jokers and changed how gold stake works, as well as you playing more Balatro in general.
You actually don’t have to play down a joker with ceremonial dagger. You can feed it until you get to a place where you don’t have any jokers in your stack you want to get rid of and then move it to the far right joker slot before starting each hand and then move it to the left again after you’ve started the hand. It’s pretty easy to get this card to like a +30 molt before your joker stack fills up; it’s real downside is you have to keep buying jokers for it to eat and that hurts your Econ.
I think you are underrating Dagger. Yes, it's slow, but it's uncapped, meaning with an Infinite Money Engine, it's actually amazing. You just need a lot of money to feed it, but the same goes for campfire, just that that gives XMult
Even though you rated Blueprint as S-Tier, you understated its utility. It's not just the ability to duplicate your best joker, you can move it around to take advantage of multiple joker abilities, like on-blind and on-discard effects. Not only that, you decouple it from optimal scoring to prolong rounds, allowing more investment in snowball cards. I think you're sleeping on Ballot Joker too. All that said, I learned some things here, so thanks.
I feel like for all the "when scored" cards like Odd Todd it could be mentioned that these can go crazy with some red stamps/hack/ballot/etc. Makes sense though since this is from perspective of gold stake. That being said, it wouldn't be the worst thing if those types of decks were a little more accessible to build in the higher stakes. It really do be feeling like you just gotta grind for high card or pair builds at the higher stakes which doesn't seem in the spirit of the game overall
Awesome list, one critique….. it’s pronounced “grow Michelle” it was the original mass produced banana that the banana flavoring in candy is based off of. It was basically wiped out by fungus at least the mass production was and was replaced by the cavendish.
Saving up to run a series of commissions with two or three jokers as characters together, such as a Swashbuckler holding three eggs in one hand and a ceremonial dagger in the other
45:28 Would you change your rating on Misprint at all since the discovery regarding it? For reference: it will occasionally flash an alphanumerical code that tell you what the top of your deck currently is. For instance, if it says #@11D it means your next drawn card is a Jack of Diamonds. You can view this information in the codex, you do not need to carry the Misprint in your joker slots.
Great video! Your deck tier video got me to gold stake, hopefully this will get me through it. Would love to see other lists or general strategy guides for later stakes. Every video of yours I’ve watched you mention flush scales bad, but I’m not sure what scales well with what deck.
I know there’s a card which allows you to create a straight with a single gap. Despite how difficult straights are to form, this actually raises the number of possible straights from 10 possible card combinations (ignoring suit) up to 46 possible combinations (10 + 9*4) since there are four spaces the gap can occur, and the gap makes it wider meaning the total length is 6/14 cards (ace is on either end). The actual probability of getting either case is beyond me just typing this on my phone tho.
I feel like To Do List deserves C-tier, and Triboulet deserves S-tier. Most you get out of To Do List is like 6 or 9 dollars total before it picks something like straight, flush straight, four of a kind. You talked about the rarity of Triboulet but never marked down Perkeo for the same reason. Ig perkeo is good in every deck and triboulet isnt always the pick, but there aren't many situations where Triboulet isn't at least a 4x joker
At 30:00 Just wanted to add that getting +mult when cards are scored instead of when thr joker is can be extremly good with stuff like baron, steel cards, glass cards, etc.. so I wouldn't underestimate these. That being said fibonacci or smiley face is straight up better for this. Even just mult cards can do that for you aswell. In a similar fashion hanging man and photograph are a combo I really like. Pairing that with a +mult when scoring, glass card, red seal, or mult card can score really high. So just picking up Photograph into hanging man or temp dusk, seltzer, sock and buskin. Also Tribulet being an insane upgrade to Photograph could be S Tier for me, but you kinda need to find it early and it's Currently the only joker I haven't gotten ever... To be fair though I only started playing balatro a week ago so what do I know😅
While it wouldn't make for a good thumbnail or get as many views probably, applying something like Limited Resources's MtG set review scale to these would do a lot for usability.
I would have put Fortune Teller at low A - while yes it costs money to scale, tarot cards are often more useful than not especially to shape your deck, so you're going to be spending the money for tarot anyway more often than not, and there are plenty of ways to generate free tarot besides. What makes this A for me is that unlike ALL of the other scalers for some reason, Fortune Teller is _always scaling_ whether you have it or not. If it shows up late it doesn't matter, the game has kept track of how many tarot cards you've used and Fortune Teller will already reflect that. Plus, its a common joker. You never have to build for it but if it happens that you can - either by running Vagabond or purple chipped cards - you can be fairly certain that you'll find it eventually.
I won my first gold stake easily with ancient+dusk. They gave enough score in ante 3 to beat ante 8 already. And as for consistency, I got the flush with the right suit every single blind and didn't skip once
This is helpful information from one of the Balatro community's elite experts, but do note that a bunch of these jokers have been revised by the developer since the video, making them more or less useful than described here.
I find it notable that Mr. Bones will win runs on Ante 8. In my quest to get every deck on every difficulty, if I ever come across this in Ante 8 its something I make room for. At lowest, B tier.
IDK if this changed in the last few months - but hanging chad now triggers the first card *twice*. This can be really powerful, especially with glass cards.
Vagabond can be pretty troll when you just want Death and Hanged Man, and you keep changing suits around and rolling failed Wheels instead. Definitely creates a fantasy of playing 5-of-kind every hand though.
A cool thing about credit card is small interaction with the spectral card that summons a rare joker but sets your money to 0, so if you're on negative it's actually gaining you money
I felt like such a genius when I noticed that little loophole
Another interesting interaction is the tarow that gives you double gold sets your gold to zero if used while you have negative gold
Also with the boss that sets money to 0$ when you play a specific hand. If you have negative money when you fight him, he actually gives you money when you play the hand
@@BEEFlNbanditwait that boss switches the hand? It’s always been flush for me
@@RugbyRyanthat boss blind targets your most played hand
Fun fact about the idol: it can only pick a card that is in your deck.
That means that it is useful if your deck is thin and/or has mostly copies of the same few cards.
the same goes for that castle card with discard suit for chips! so it works well on the checkered deck
imagine it on that bugged seed where every card is 10 of spades
good for those lower stakes god runs but on high stakes you can't reliably buy enough cards to thin or copy your deck that much.
I imagine it's because people get stuck thinking about endless.
I had pretty easy games with yellow deck, try it out
ikr, wee joker my beloved
So I still agree with the D tier ranking but I used that strategy to get an unlikely victory and wanted to bring it up.
that's exactly how i won my 'less than 12 rounds' win
Won after having it from ante 1. Had it on a free slot
I'm an admitted Madness truther; yeah, it sucks if it's not your first Joker, and you really need a reliable set of Eternals to make it work, but I can't not love how dumb the card can get when the stars align.
Madness is my favorite Joker in the game for black stake and above
some days ago on stream he got an insanely cursed madness run where he basically kept barely winning every single round with 4 random eternals picked for necessity, every single draw and trigger based on rng activated at the right time to keep the run alive and it was ridiculous and the ending was some of the funniest shit I've ever seen, I really really really hope he makes it into a video because that run was insane
i was a madness hater until it got me my first gold stake win and now im with you on this, as long as you manage to get some +mult and +chip eternal it can basically carry the run
I had eternal stuntman, eternal supernova, eternal madness and yeah it can be disgusting 😂
i won my first purple stake run using Madness + Blueprint

You spelt all the legendary jokers names wrong
Blueprint should be in its own tier because it's better than just copying your best joker... It copies the best joker contextually. I was absolutely using it to double up on stone cards added to my deck at the start of round, then sliding it over to my best multiplier, or, given the hand, sliding it over to the best multiplier for that hand. It is INSANELY good.
midas joker with vampire is certified nut
I was playing the mad world challenge where you get an eternal copy of pareidolia and I ended up getting Midas and vampire, so every hand just ended up buffing vampire by x1 mult. Ended up getting x50 mult on the vampire haha
I managed to dupe my vampire card after reaching around 20x mult with it. Absolutely insane, 40x multiplyer lmao.
@@sams_salad_service3653

Just cleared my first gold stakes run last night, so excited to see what jokers I should look for when doing it with the other decks.

@@RoffleLite, where would you put Yorick after the rework?
A bit situationnal but it IS a use case that DOES occur without you having to specifically set it up
7:47 A couple small things i think should be noted about Burglar:
If you move your "Blueprint" or "Brainstorm" jokers to be on "Burglar" when you start the round, it adds 3 more hands without any downsides PLUS you can then move them back onto other cards so that they can be used for score or whatnot, and you'll still keep the extra hands.
Also it feeds Sac Dagger, but that one’s a meme card

haven't made it to gold stake yet but even as low as black stakes, my runs reflect what you're saying here.
Burnt Joker in B is insane. Easy A or even S. Base mult/chips is underrated
Mainly good for checkered
in gold?
@joeg6419 Of course. Especially since small hands are better for gold.
Honestly orange steak is the real difficulty spike.
B is a good rating for it since b still means good. Gold stakes having less discards and etc makes it riskier to go for burnt joker. Definitely A or S in normal runs though
@@BudgetNugsNo if you go for a high card or pair deck then it is VERY useful for any stake

I think "Best Negative Utility Jokers" would be an interesting list. See where they end up when the downside of taking up space is thrown out.
A luchador saved my ass on my first successful gold stake run and I will forever appreciate luchador for just existing because of that.
Seeing him rank Hanging Chad so low really reminds me how this was before the balance patch. Damn thing is so great now.
I know it is objectively probably right to put Vagabond in A tier, but poor boi is an S tier in my heart for the fun he provides.
I feel like Four Fingers should be in B tier. It just enables SO much. It's such a good enabler.
Yeah I only learned today how good this card is for a straight flush build. If you do a 5 card straight with 4 suited cards, it will count as an SF even if the unsuited card is in the middle.
Also when scoring straights, if your 5th card is a pair it will get scored too.
I prefer shortcut, but that's also on post patch balatro, where straights got a huge buff.
Because of the way your speech pattern works, i keep anticipating "for that reason, we have to ask you to leave the forge" lol
I feel like it's mostly ignored because of how difficult tarrot card stacking can be in orange/gold due to pack cost post ante 3
I've played this game a decent amount (~40 hours) but haven't managed to beat gold stake with any deck so it was super interesting to see some of these hot takes. Like Campfire is good? Vampire is good? WHAT?!?
Campfire is 100% good. You don’t need to sell a joker for it to work, you can simply purchase and sell tarot and planet cards to boost it, and it is incredible for Xmult
how dare you put jimbo in d tier
i mean you're right but cmon man
I've won 3 gold stakes so far and they've all used square joker lol
Excellent video, man. Giving scenarios for pretty much every joker was super helpful. Long video but explains how some of the jokers I usually pass by might be useful. Thank you!
The Obelisk rating was surprising. I’d love to see a run where Roffle makes this pay off.
Coming very soon!
Got egg and dagger early, kept them till ante 5, sacrifice the egg, breezed through last antes
yea but then you’re not scaling it, so it’s either good scaling at -1 joker or no scaling at full jokers.
This will not be so relevant tier list since ALL jokers compete with each other and you have only 5 slots
Thats just a different idea, and also more confusing
If you understand when each joker type is best utilized (additive mult early, money early-mid, chips and mult mult mid-late) then you can synthesize those disparate tier lists into a general gameplan
I mean, you can make multiple tier list videos for various functions but this one is specifically for how good the jokers are for allowing you to clear Gold Stake ante 8.
There’d have to be different videos for low stake endless jokers and so on.
Anyone with the wiki could do what you suggest but as Roffle has a lot of experience completing the game on the hardest difficulty he is sharing his insights on what gets you there.
I learned that Gros Michel can be destroyed by other means (spectral cards namely) and still add Cavendish to the pool.
SSSS tier. I love him.
Apparently Saturn used to be only +2 mult instead of +3 (as it is now), that makes a huge difference
Yup, they changed the -1 hand size from gold stake to a rental sticker
i get the reasoning with the lucky cat joker but when it works it’s a fun gimmick build. i got it one time and played with a ton of red seal lucky cards and the dice joker and it got up to like x10 or something it was a fun one
My greatest run ever (ante 13 on gold stake) had a shop 1 madness with eternal fibonacci and eternal blueprint.
1:04:28 1st game I ever played was a lucky trousers square joker run. been hooked since
fun fact about madness: if all of your jokers are eternal, it raises mult every blind without destroying anything
Big note about Mr. Bones:
If it saves you from the final Boss Blind on Ante 8, then you automatically just win the run.
I like that you explain your reasoning for each one, really helpful for a mid-stakes player like me aspiring to get to Gold.
I haven't even got all decks so I'm very new to Balatro. But my first legendary was Perkeo and I got my first blueprint on the same run. I don't need to tell you it was ridiculous. Easy win.
Thanks for the video roffle!
I've tried to follow your strategy to go for high cards and pairs, and I've finally managed to win a gold stake run!
Congratulations!
It's crazy.
Your deck tier list helped me out a ton, this tier list should be no different. Thanks a ton for your excellent work and feedback!
Thanks for watching!
This list is sick. Hey I have crippling ADHD and need video like this to get me through workouts. Can you rank all the tags from the blind skips? Thanks, my gain also thank you
Oh a tags tier list would actually be extremely useful, I think you could also rate them separately based on if its a first blind skip or an average skip, too
Hey I have pretty bad ADHD and can relate keep going to the gym it helps so much
Smear joker also synergize well with suit conditional cards, like +4 mult for spade
Holographic joker is much better than B. Its scaling is much better than many jokers.
my best run ever involved the blackboard and brainstorm jokers doubling the constellation joker. i also had the free planet card and pack joker. granted being able to tripple up any strong joker goes nuts
Yeah riff raff is actually nuts, probably my favorite joker to see early as long as you aren't crazily unlucky
"a replacement to solitaire"
it is exactly how i play it. it replaced sudoku for me.
thanks for making the game!
and thanks for the interview Dan.
i think its unfair to be putting sock and buskin so low compared to hack when its better to build around face cards than 2-5, and also with how many face card jokers there are. id consider it possibly the best retrigger joker there is.
Keep the tier list coming. Loved your takes and thoughts on all the Jokers.
I'd like to see a Voucher tier list.
Do note that at the time of the videos release hanging chad only retriggered once instead of twice
Anxiously awaiting the skip tag and tarot tier lists 🤞🏼
I like how the King related joker is a Baron.
I suggest next time to include the description of each joker you are discussing in the screen, would be really helpful for newbies.
Ive used brainstorm to copy blueprint to copy hanging chad twice
This is helpful information from one of the Balatro community's elite experts, but do note that a bunch of these jokers have been revised by the developer since the video, making them more or less useful than described here.
Plus, the stakes themselves have changes. Orange used to have packs increase in price every round and gold would lower your hand size by one
Gold Card Joker gives $4 not 3$ now. I find it really good when I get midas early then swap to it so I can make good plays and get econ.
I play Balatro casually but this is a seriously good tier list video I learnt a lot.
New drinking game: you take a shot everytime he says "easily obtainable hand"
You can hear the effort going into pronouncing the tarot card as Hanged Man
I can't wait for the vouchers tier list and consumable cards tier lists! Copefully?
I find it notable that Mr. Bones will win runs on Ante 8. In my quest to get every deck on every difficulty, if I ever come across this in Ante 8 its something I make room for. At lowest, B tier.
IDK if this changed in the last few months - but hanging chad now triggers the first card *twice*.
This can be really powerful, especially with glass cards.
A lot did change. Straights scale +3 now, which makes any straight buff joker (eg runner, shortcut, 4finger, even the awful ace straight tarot joker.)
Vagabond can be pretty troll when you just want Death and Hanged Man, and you keep changing suits around and rolling failed Wheels instead. Definitely creates a fantasy of playing 5-of-kind every hand though.
When I saw you put Golden Joker in B and I was like, wait, it should be similar to Cloud 9 right? Then you fixed it immediately lol.
