Man, every video of yours is of such high quality, its so worth waiting for them.
This.
ye
This is a great method for all design/creative projects, not just sound design.
Thanks for the tips.
For what it's worth, server rooms are loud AF. A realistic sound would be the HVAC fans blasting away, a low pitched white noise like sticking your head in front of a box fan. We had to talk loudly to be heard.
Totally. I often design something realistic first, and then realize later that realistic is most often more boring than something weird af like this haha.
I'm so glad Mark Brown made me discover you. I love sound-design and foley, but there's surprisingly little content dedicated to this. Great stuff!
This is the best sound design/Ableton ad channel out there. Hands down.
As an aspiring musician and sound designer, I’m finding these videos extremely helpful. Thanks :)
You're back! Coincidentally, I was just thinking yesterday how I missed "that McGee guy" with his awesome sound design videos. I was afraid you had stopped, yet here you are :)
This channel is gold for an aspiring Sound Designer. Thank you man! You've helped me loads.
im a sound designer head dev ceo scripter gui maker animator and builder in my game lol
Hey Marshall, I just wanted you to know that I've been absolutely loving your content. I've binged most of your channel lately and as someone who's a baby in this industry, I really appreciate seeing a video series that's so engaging to watch. Thank you so much! I don't know if it'd be possible but I'd love to see a video on the sound design of creatures like the Demogorgon from Sranger Things or the creatures from A Quiet Place.
Super interesting and fun! Thank you for sharing your experience
This is officially my favorite channel. :)
Wow, I was just thinking of organizing sounds this way with the new collections yesterday. Great idea!
i don't do video games sounds but i do edit video's and this method of looking at sound is really awesome for me. ty for making these videos
The program is ABLETON
you're welcome
i love you
as a matter of fact
i'm working on a video game project and i will mention you in the special thanks credit
when you already have abelton
Thank you so much! How am I supposed to apply what I learn in this vid if I don't know what app he's using.
The technique of bouncing it out to stop yourself from tweaking is great, I accidentally did it with a music track when I somehow misplaced the project file and honestly, I feel like having no choice but to roll with it was for the better (Also I know this is a 5 year old video, but I've only just found this channel and it's a great resource for budding sound designers!)
So I just discovered your channel and I am absolutely fascinated! I am so glad to find a youtuber who specializes in this field. Could you do a video on how monster/kaiju roars are created?
You've earned another sub, well done
man im pursuing sound engineering glad i found your channel
Thanks for this video. I appreciate it being 5 minutes too.
just discovered your channel, thank's a lot man for sharing your knowlidge ;)
The consolidate tip is one I will try to use in the future. I always end up tinkering and making the sound worse, but at the same time not changing it drastically due to the lack of a backup.
Omg, it's literaly like that in some studios that I had work in, "just do what I said no questions thanks" hahaha
I really love your video, and regret why I had't watched your video before I finished the lesson which needed a lot of robot sounds, by the way ,I am a totally a beginner of sound design.
So great!!
Found your stuff via Mark Brown. Very interesting!
I don't know if you do requests, but if you do, I would love to see you analyze how the beam cannon sounds in Freespace 2 were made. Those whining-boom sounds are among my favorite sound effects in all of video games.
I got a lot from you video! Waiting for next video!
That's it. I wanna make some damn cool ass sounds now.
Instant like for you sir
Hey man, love seeing your uploads, just have a quick question. What pc/laptop do you use for creating sound, (the pc/laptop you run the software on) cheers!
*likes video* Now, lets see what he's got for us this time.
Glad I found you
thank you so much i hope to find a job or oppurtunity in the sound effect field . lvoe and support from ca
I love that u used Marcus in your profile picture and wd2 clips in your vid
Edit: I am sad to see that Marcus is no longer your profile picture
INSTANT SUB.
awesome! hight quality!
I LOVE YOU.JPG
i will support you as soon as I have stable income my friend.
Hey, you are the pe that¿s making me fall in love with sound desing, btw, what software you use or recomend?
A question more tuned towards the game design or perhaps coding side of things: I would like to know how to accurately depict sounds in games in the sense that sound waves propogate differently in different enviroments, bounce off surfaces, and have their tone distorted by the acoustics of said surfaces. How would I go about doing that or gettin information on doing that? I understand its daunting but its hard to both high quality sound in games and spacial accuracy at the same time I've noticed it's one or the other. For example on one end you have counter-strike with low bit sound quality but you can easily recognize where they're coming from and on the other side is tarkov which has rich sounds but the mixing is weird or something- or it's programmed in such a way that it sounds strange, slightly off sounding. You can pick up eventually where people are coming from but from audio ques rather than the accuracy of the audio.
is there anything like the collections or tagging folder thing in reaper? Would love to implement this into my process versus just peppering my timeline with sounds. These overall process videos are super helpful. You learn a ton by seeing someone's thought process and a first and second pass.
Thank you
Don't know what i am doing here...
But what a great video
hi dude! :)
I've got protools but was wondering what software you were using for the video? (great vid btw!)
I would love to hear your opinions on the multiple gun sound changes in csgo. A lot of people in the community have been confused by the seeming pointlessness so i think it would be great to hear from an opinion from a sound design perspective.
Haven’t heard the redesigns but I’ve only played csgo a handful of times. I’ve never been that blown away by the guns tbh. Very boomy and harsh in a lot of cases. If they wanted to redesign the sounds to be more in line with modern gun trends power to them.
Amazing videos man! What program do you use and is logic pro X good enough? It's what I have and grew up with
Hey this is really cool!
I'm a sound designer too, and one of my favourite parts to think about is how much synths and how much "natural" sounds and samples I'm gonna use! Maybe that's a nice topic for you to cover some day!
To elaborate a bit: scifi energy sounds often have a certain tone to them. I would create a sound with a synth, alot of chorus/phaser etc to create the base sound. Then I add texture and interesting bits by adding natural sounds. This can get very weird and creative, I have sounds that use glass and hipass cymbal sounds and other ones with whale sounds in them haha
New video YEEEEEAAAHAAAA
Let’s create a discord of sound designers/ followers of marshall???
What software are you using?
Can you make a video that discusses the hardware and software you use to record and alter sounds?
for beginner sound designers, how should we go about building a library of sounds? do you have any 'essential' starting libraries you would recommend to an amateur just starting out?
It’s kind of like saying are there any essential ingredients in a kitchen? Maybe. But very few. It all depends what you’re trying to make.
do you recommend any specific resources for finding the kinds of libraries you're looking for? or is it just a google search and deep dive type of deal
Heres something I do for sound design practice Mud Bong... I will use recordings taken from UA-cam ASMR videos.for one they are always great quality and most of those videos are recorded with little to no background noise. Try sampling sound from those, to recreate a movie scene or short game cutscene. Its all good practice for sound layering.
Where did you get all these sound sample packs? Did they come stock in Ableton?
What program are you using to make the sounds? Just starting out and need a good software to make some sounds :)
Rofl I just got a test to take to get a Jr Sound Design job at Ubisoft and I'm looking for videos and tips for this, I'm mainly a music producer and haven't got that much experience with creating foley sounds and random stuff, but I've got one week to learn.
What DB do you recommend when you add Your Layer designed gunshot Specifically A close up on a gunshot?
Could you please give an advice where to find a project for work? I have a lot of experience in audio production and currently learning middleware software but I’m confused where to find a job and how to present myself. Sound design vacancies from companies are quite rare and require a decent skill. I tried upwork but never got an invitation. Should I look for non-profit work to build a portfolio? Do you know any good platform for this?
Where did you get the sounds from and whats the name of the programm where you edit the sounds? PS: pls answer
which polar pattern best for game sound development
Which software you use name please 😌🙏
Can you explain why cods guns sound "weak" in your video ?
Can Anybody tell me what software was used in the video??
So, these are good suggestions for modelers, too... >__>;
How do you decode sps music files ?
What software is he using?
What's song?
1:14 what is this program? please someone tell me i need this
I think it's fl studio
Dude, next time you talk about a product (like the advertising at the end), show it off! I don't mind them at all but if you're promoting something related to audio, you have to len us hear it.
thats not gta5, thats watch dogs 2
This was pretty darn interesting. Curious, do you ever start with, "what does x *actually* sound like today?" I wonder if simply going by what one perceives to be the right sound is how we get this artsy echo chamber of ideas that seem to diverge from reality. Kind of like the CSI effect.
Often times when I was just starting to learn sound design I approached it that way, but the truth is reality sounds pretty boring most of the time and awesome other times, nobody really cares to appreciate realism unless it obviously enhances the experience like in something like a survival game. It’s often much better to design for the game environment than real life. Imagine a watch dogs 2 where the server room is a simple fan loop. Boooorrring.
are there seperate positions in the game industry for sound design , Mixing and implementation? im from the Film and TV world so sorry if its an obvious question.
Kind of, yes. There are sound designers (me) and technical sound designers. Technical sound designers would handle for example all of the scripting of a music system that has to react and be dynamic. So there’s a little bit of a difference.
ah interesting, thanks for the reply
Which software are you using to organize your library?
Could you please do a video on wind
What program do you use?
I myself am a Indie Game Designer+Developer and it's so hard making sounds for your own game(I am all inspired by Witcher 3 SoundTrack) and I am just using some weirdo softwares so I want to know which one is this(I want to have it).
HarryHardik ableton
which program you use?
Which software is this ?
Ouuuuu
You never say what software you use...
Software is the least important part about sound design.
Maybe, but the one you show in the video seems to have what's essential and I'd like to try it
Jesus love you, he died on the cross for you, accept him as your lord and savior he can change everything. For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life" (Jn 3:16"
But you must repent too. From that time Jesus went about preaching and saying, Let your hearts be turned from sin, for the kingdom of heaven is near. (Matthew 4:17)'
How'd I find this channel lol this isn't music theory
Thank you very much for your Tips! Sounds so simple ._.
What program are you using?
