Hi there and welcome to the channel, I appreciate you stopping by!
I am starting this channel to show the whole world my adventures and misadventures of all things car resto related.
I mainly focus on the bodywork sides of things - everything from fabrication to polishing, but not limiting myself to only those things.
I do have some interesting projects upcoming!
Always trying to achieve great and greater results from my home garage and on a budget.
Hopefully I can pass on a few tips and tricks to those who are also playing with cars at home and learn a thing or two myself from your guys and gals.
Cheers, KC - The Resto Shed

7:05 - A bit of trivia, those indicators were also used on the 1993-1997 XV10 Camry/Vienta in Australia.
Awesome watch, cheers.
Recently di d the cowl on my HQ van, yep, bugga of a job! Epoxied the inside of the cowl & replacement panel, then KBS gloss black on the inside of both. I don't use weld through primer anymore. Instead I have a drill ground flat the same size as the holes for the plug welds & remove the paint for nice clean bare metal before welding. :)
are you qualified for doing this sort of work or are you just having a crack either way mate it looks mint
Great video.
Thanks for watching.
Excellent workmanship Kyle.. Was awesome to get my Hz in paint this week mate finally after 4yrs.. You can appreciate what goes into them when you're actually helping or doing it at this stage Kyle.. Great content mate 👌
Thanks Scotty, I saw that your HZ got some colour, can’t go wrong with Atlantis blue on the HZs. Hope you and your family are well mate
Pig of a job. Done it on a WB one tonner a few years ago.
Some are definitely worse than others!
Excellent work as usual... You mentioned alignment holes on the cowl panel & top of radiator support, any chance on your next vid showing us these locations and the measurements along with that?? Keep up the great content!!
Thanks for watching. The holes in the cowl panel is where the bonnet lacing sits, under the cowl panel extension pieces. The holes in the rad support correspond with those holes. These holes are just to measure/square from although am sure there is factory measurements out there as a rough guide.
Hi, Not having done a cowl panel yet ,I'm guessing rare spares sell some sort of replacement pin or rivets to facilitate the refitting of stainless trim clips? And do you ever bother to follow up with a punch mark next to your plug welds to simulate the factory spot weld look. Love your channel with its solid detailed content ,particularly relevent to us fellow Holden diehards Cheers Trev
Thanks for watching Trev. These replacement panels come with all the studs pre welded on. Although you can get riveted studs or screw in options. I can also fit the welded options as I have the tooling/weldable studs. As far as imitation spot welds go to retain a factory look, there is a few options if I feel the need, however this one being modified it’s not something I intend on replicating.
Great job mate 👌👌👌
Thanks for watching.
Were is the golden girl?
Sitting in storage, waiting patiently.
What rust converter are you using? Any reason to not just epoxy after deoxidine? Cheers nice work
Good question. With the epoxy I’m using, it doesn’t like going over the phosphate coating left after neutralising the Deoxidine and in an area like inside the plenum it would be near impossible to remove it all. Given the amount of seams in the area, Deoxidine can be hard to neutralise if it gets between the two panels. Ideally blasting it with garnet would have been most textbook method, but I have had good results with the Wurth Rust Converter and that’s the way I chose to go for that particular repair.
Absolute top notch mate, credit to you and thanks for the sharing
Thanks for watching.
You sure are a craftsman mate with this panelling work. Wow It really looks top notch! Doing great. Can't wait for the next video. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks for watching.
Awesome job Mate, really enjoy your videos.
Thanks for watching.
Love old cars, like this HQ! I’m sure it will look amazing once done. However,if the clickbait picture is correct then I gotta say it’s got the shittest looking rims.
I’ll pass on your opinion of the wheels on to the owner - I’m sure he will care a lot about what you think. 😂
Nice Work mate! Mad Skills!
Thank you 🙏🏼
Another great vid
Thanks for watching.
Great informative episode, really enjoyed it ❤
Thanks for watching.
I'd love to see more about how you did the hidden wiper motor. I'm workng on a similar project in my truck, and was looking for ideas.
It’s a bought kit, very ordinary though.
Inside the cowl/plenum reminds me of the same area on an early Mustang, and they always seem to rust out there. Do you have the same problem with these Holdens?
Yes, very common.
New drinking game. Every time you say " ya know " you have to do a shot glass of bourbon.
What a beautiful process 👌🏼👌🏼 great work
Thanks for watching.
simply awesome, i got a small 1 man shop plus a contractor afew days a week last 17 years , been in this game 32 odd years you make it look easy great mind set & skills thanks for your time making the videos another killer looking Q on the way
Thanks for watching, it’s certainly a lot of work.
Nice work!
Thanks for watching.
I used to own a 1973 HQ Premier Sedan and l owned it for 24 + year's..... and l can say that the Cowling Panel or Plenum Chamber indeed is their biggest weak spot as l had to repair that area twice in the time l owned it, it was originally painted a Bronze Colour, but someone had painted a kind of eggplant Colour by the time l had purchased it.....which was an ugly colour so was in primer for a very long time. I had added the HQ Monaro fender Gilles and Monaro Rim's that I had spliced to take a wider white block lettered Bridgestone 245's
What wiper motor set up are you using?
The only one available
Awesome content Kyle 👌 Mate your skill and workmanship is awesome mate and youll go a long way mate!!
Thanks mate 🙏🏼
Just don't get the bead-lock thing these days.Didn't need them back in the day, can't see why we need them now.
This car will need them unlike a lot that are just for show. Each to their own.
Love watching you share your skills 👌
Thanks for watching
never noticed it's a fellow Adelaide Q..nice
Great as always .. most say gap a car front to back but cars with a plenum I reckon it’s probly the best place to start . The bonnet to plenum gap is so crucial . Doors are much easier to manipulate . Hope that makes sense . How’s the windscreen moulds to the aftermarket plenum ?
To each their own, I would never gap a car front to back, always back to front. Windscreen trims fit good on the aftermarket cowl panels.
Been a while. That's a lot of panel mods. Tells a story. Cheers
Thanks for watching
Your a fucken gun mate ,those banana lines look pretty slick awaome!

Top job 👌🏻🇩🇰🇳🇿🏁😎
Very nice work I spent my weekend making quarters from scratch and i forgot how much work you have to put into fitment it always gets me I read in another post you don't have a tig when you do expand your tools id suggest an sws tig welder have a chat with Travis i uses my sws every day its a work horse And once you use silicone bronze to fill in low imperfections or cleco holes you wont got back to the mig for that sort of work You can do it so much colder and get almost no shrinkage and being softer than steel it grinds and sands easily
Thanks for watching, I agree with you about the time in regards to fitment. Fortunately I was lucky enough that since then I was gifted a Tig (UniMig Razor) with all the all the bells and whistles, I’ve had a couple hours of playing, just familiarising myself with the machine as a complete Tig weld novice, still far off using it on a project though. I’ve not had a lot of time lately for anything project related. I see a lot of people using silicon bronze for finish work of their repairs, definitely something I will look into once I’m closer to using the Tig more regularly.
@@TheRestoShed the razor are not a bad unit I used one back when I worked for someone else The best advice I can give you to pick up Tig quickly is use a metronome app or just a video on UA-cam Tig is very much about consistent movements not consistent movement like mig I start most people off at 60 bpm and then let them adjust the speed up or down everyone's different No right or wrong only results
@bluejayfabrications2216 thanks for the advice. A couple videos I watched recommended on fusion welding to start with which I’ve done a little bit of. I have some 1mm mild steel rods waiting for me to practice adding filler rod into the puddle when I get a chance to play again. The general census seemed to be 0.9 mig wire as filler rod for sheet metal which I had none on hand, 0.6 didn’t even make it into the puddle! Haha I figured the slightly thicker rods would help with practicing as they’re a bit more sturdier and controllable.
@@TheRestoShed to practice feeding filler rod I'd suggest buying dry spaghetti pasta the diameter is about the same as filler rod but it's so much more brittle it teaches you soft hands while feeding filler rod For fusion welding 1.15mm cold rolled I use pulse at 10 amps low 39 amps high with a 50 50 split And a pulse Hertz of 1.5 -2 Or flat current at 25 -30 amps The big thing to remember is at such low amps example 30 amps going up or down just 3 amps it a 10% increase in heat output Also how sharp the tungsten is and how far it is from the job ambient air temperature how close the metal is to the bench or surrounding structure all these things create a cumulative error that make it hard to diagnose at such low amps Just set up 50 pairs of tokens and only change one thing or setting at a time and note the results
@bluejayfabrications2216 thanks for the tips, much appreciated.
