      Just an update, my rosemary are doing really great. I planted 3 from the cuttings I bought from store. They stayed outside during winter last year, still in pot. Harvest a bit this summer. Im growing thyme this time. Thanks for your how to video, it’s fun and knowledgeable!

    I have a monster rosemary that’s in the front of my house in desperate need of a trim. I’ve just been hesitant on doing so because I’m not quite sure where to even start. I’ll definitely watch the other Rosemary videos right now, maybe I’ll learn something and feel ready to trim it.

    in israel Rosemary grow in the sides of highways to handle the air pollution, so we have free rosemary all year around. but in the israeli cuisine we not using this herb so much but we love to drink it as tea in the winter.

      Very interesting! I use mine both in cooking, & more often, as a healthy home fragrance. A lightly crushed sprig dangling from the fan is a wonderful air freshener.

    Great tips Jeff. I need to get some new rosemary plants next year. We bought some a few years ago, but they didn't make it through their first winter. Time to start again!

    I need to plant some rosemary my balcony looks like a forest lol with my pepper plants and tomatoes. Basil. Cacti and succulent plus my different flowers 🤣 and aloe. Vera too

    Thanks for your excellent video, I don't have any Elemental Sulphur and also can't find any rhododendron dry mix on Amazon.ca.
    What else can I use that is inexpensive for my small pot of Rosemary plant ??
    I live on Vancouver Island in Canada, so think the herb growing weather is about the same as your growing climate.

    Wouldn't cactus potting mix work for the plants? For the last few years we used miracle grow and we side dressed em when needed so pretty they look like 3 ft mini trees.... I think we're going to change location this year. Hopefully we don't have to start over.

    Great and informative video as always!! Can we get a cutting from a recently bought rosemary or is it too small? I just bought one for a friend but it made me want one so I thought maybe I can get a cutting for myself 😅

    Looks like my new plant didn't take. A little confused because another video stated to keep the soil pretty dry. Well, it definitely didn't like that. It's in a small pot outside and half of it's leaves are gone. The Bay Area climate differs 20 degrees somedays which I'm new to. Hopefully I can save it.

      @@Gangapriya0815 is it already in a soil in a pot? I would leave it in the pot you bought it in if you get a winter in your area. If you live in a warm climate or you're growing indoors, then pot away

    If I plant in the ground how wide of a soil area is needed. I have a strip of soil on my south wall that's only about a foot wide but maybe 18 feet long will it survive in such a thin bed so close to the stucco wall?

      Oh yeah, you could have the roots go either way to the left or right. I don't think it'll harm the plant by it not being in the complete center.

      Oh hey, the little yellow bits I added was Elemental Sulphur to acidify the soil. Not much, and only use if your soil is alkaline....but it can really help your Rosemary's health!

    HELP!! What is the name of the and sulfur
    And where can I buy it? I looked it up and I get pool stuff. I did what you said about onions & basil and they are GREAT! Is there a trick to keep tiny bugs away from my basil. I'm so proud of my self. I used to say I could kill a Cactus. Lol, Not now THANKS TO YOU!

      Hey Patrick, it most certainly does grow well indoors. It appreciates the stable environment as well! Flowering can be induced by light/nutrients.

      Definitely will mark. Aim to grow the varieties sold in your area. Those are the ones that should do the best.

    Why is it that most online guides suggest getting perlite or horticultural sand to add to the potting mix for better drainage? Is that a better way to do it or can I survive without that? Also, is it absolutely necessary to add the elemental sulphur? Can I spritz some vinegar+water solution instead?

      Because they provide better drainage? Elemental Sulphur is not required... Is it but one way to lower the pH of an alkaline soil, but only IF the soil is alkaline.

    I have a three year old one on a large planter box, I think she's not going be be around anymore. The cold got to her even when covered with row covers. The two are in very large boxes and were treated the same but this time they seemed to dry n yellow. So sad

      Over water, under water, low nitrogen, extreme pH , or extreme temperatures. :-)

    I can't seem to find place to buy straw here in Vancouver. But I did find a place that sells Fresh and Composted Bark Mulch. Can I use those? Which one should I go with? Fresh or Composted?

      Hey Mang, for Rosemary yes, you can use bark mulch. Its a perennial shrub, so you can get away with some of those coarser mulches than you can with your regular vegetables. :-)

      @@TheRipeTomatoFarms so for mulching other plants, I should try to find straw or using shredded leaves? I do have some leaves that I collected but I’m worried that they might not be so clean and may carry diseases or other bad stuff. It may also comes with some mushroom bits from the lawn.

      @@MangZhu yeah, lawn clippings and shredded leaves are the best... And usually free... But like you said, try to get them from the cleanest sources possible.

      Yes, but that is usually very short lived, drastic, and then its gone.

    What if your rosemary died but the stem is still good. Can you revive that? Is that a dumb question? I bought some and didn’t get it planted right away and even though I got them watered inside, they eventually died.

      I’ve always had rosemary fir years and never had a problem but it died and bought more then had this problem. Sigh.

      Cedar is actually a natural herbicide...I would steer clear of it as a mulch unless your Rosemary plant was fully established. :-)

      Yes Elny, Rosemary has an extensive root system and these cuttings are quite long and need to be planted right up to where the needles are :-)

    Rosemary need alkaline soil but you say slightly acidic soil,I use ash to make it alkaline ?

    I bought a pot of rosemary and it's dead in a week. 😣 I even replaced the soil when it started wilting.

      Oh no, sorry to hear that Cheryl! Are you growing them in pots or in the ground? They grow quite fast and large and can become root bound very fast. At that point, they will also repel water, leading to the idea that they need a lot of water, which they don't. I move mine on to a larger size or plant in the ground, every 2 years...otherwise they outgrow their digs! :-)

    I have been told numerous times that rosemary doesn't take to moist , humid, conditions. My rosemary died many times because of this and your here saying to soak the soil???

      Yeah, the foliage doesn't like humidity and constant moisture.... But it's a plant. It still needs water. :-)
