The mosquito trick is awesome.. coconut oil does the same too. 2 years ago I started using coconut oil as a pre-sunscreen in the spring and summer and I kept questioning why all my family kept getting swarmed by mosquitos all the time but I was never being bitten, then I was researching the benefits of coconut oil and found out it was because of the oil that i wasnt getting bite. I read rosemary increases the effect. I am excited growing my own rosemary this season and going to soak it in coconut oil for a mosquito repellent.
Awww, man...coconut oil makes my skin itch! I read that some have that issue with it. I NEED a good natural mosquito repellent...they are eating me alive!
5 years later and here I am! Thank you for this. A coworker told me to drown the roots and keep it out of the light. My plant is still dying though so now I'm gonna try it your way. Less water and more sun. I'll keep you updated! 😊
I'm in my second year with a potted rosemary on my north facing front porch rail in North Alabama zone 7b, with intermittent sun several times throughout the day except for the deepest part of winter when it only caught a few minutes in the morning. It went pretty dormant during the winter but didn't look sickly. I didn't pick at it much during that time, but once it warmed back up this spring it started growing again with a vigor.
Hey dude, thank you for all the information you share with us. It's pretty helpful to succeed in growing herb.Your videos have been helping me a lot since I started to growing all kind of herbs indoors.
If you mean conventional lotions and oils i'd say not really. I have gone outside after applying ordinary lotion and gotten eaten up near to West Nile with mosquitoes. But I would say lots of natural oils and lotions have the same effect on mosquitoes. :)
Hi there... 🙋 One of my Rosemary plants has become quite woody, some stems are almost as thick as my pinky vinger... 👀 They are both outside in pots, they are about little over a meter tall... Must I feed them? 👀
Great video! I couldn't figure out why my rosemary would die in pots. I have grown it outside in my garden but it kept dying in pots! Thanks for the tips. Very informative!
roravenclaw mine does the same thing!! Every single time. Did you ever figure out the problem? I just replanted mine in a bigger pot before I watched this video.. fingers crossed lol
Excellent video. I never heard about the USDA growing zones before. Also, perfect instructions on how to start new cuttings. I would have just stuck it into soil with the leaves and all lol.
How do you dry it for later use? Also..what is a good oil to infuse it into that will keep for a while? And do you refrigerate it or keep it in your cupboard? I love your vid.best one out there.. To the point. Not too complex.i live in Fla. I bought herbs. Now wanna care for them ..i bought at a thift store about 30 pots exactly what ypu have ..lol.do i drill holes in bottom for all herbs? Or how to set them up to drain and soils to use..everything is sand here but i have tons of cheap potting soil lol. Thanks for the help. I subscribed imediately. Best tutorial.
That is a good tip on the mosquito repellent. I did not know that about rosemary. I may try that net year. I am in Missouri. So it would have to come in. I am humid. Thanks for all the great info on it.
Great video! Question - I live in 7a. I brought my rosemary indoors for the winter...and this big, beautiful plant died a horrible, miserable death. I did not overwater it, b/c I know that rosemary really hates too much water. It was under a good grow light that supports many other plants quite well. What step did I miss? Does it require more fertilizer during the winter or ? Thanks!
thanks for the video. it was very informative. I have a question, what dirt did you use in the pot and how often it needs to be watered? Thank you so much!!!
Hi, nice video, thank you! I follow your instructions and waiting for new rosemary growth- I too get get mosquito bites 🤞🏼🤞🏼. Will you do a video on how to take care of 3 yr old avocado tree in zone 10? When will I see fruit? It get all day sun ☀️🤞🏼Thank you
Thank you for your videos, It is very helpful! I've been trying to have Rosemary for a long time. I tried many different ways and I got the leaves dried(brown) very quickly, even when I put them in the water to grow the roots. I put roots in the soil with rocks and sand for drainage; I put them under the sun (4 hours) or totally on the shades or full sun, the same varieties I tried watering. I tried many different ways to cultivate It, but no luck so far. Do you have some idea what could be the problem? I really appreciate your answer or if anybody here has the same experience, please feel free to share.
Your video is very informative. You have guided lucratively But what about very hot climate Like 30 to 50degree . How to prevent from heat and take care . I have lost 😭 mine 4 of them Two of them died after more than a month and again brought one 4 days back?
Durray Nayab I have the same problem! Every video I saw says “full sun”, but mine kept getting sort of burned-dry look. I already killed 3 and the next time I am going to try shaded area without full sun.
Great video. But for some reason I can’t get my cutting to root. My leaves die even though the water isn’t touching. Should it be in the shade maybe? 🤔
the one i bought says it should be put in lamb/pig or marinades but could i use a little bit of normal soil with some coarse sand and pumice, similar to how i do with some succulents, maybe a little bit more nutrition.
Would it be possible if when I bring inside for winter, to put it in paper bags and a little sand or seed start mix to keep it moist and alive? I didn't want to use a regular pot, but will if I have to. I have very limited space.
This comment is from Nepal! I brought a plant from a relative and didnt know which plant is that but it looks like Rosemary ! Thanks for the info, will make sure about weather its Rosemary or not! And another thing, I got a avocado tree which has grown huge and almost 3 years but it hasn’t given fruit yet!
I bought 4 rosemary after 7 days they are dry .l watered them twice because we are in a desert 102° . l set them outside in direct sunlight . Are they in shock ? What am I doing wrong .
I have read that rosemary is a mediterranean plant that LOVES to get moisture from the air. So I am not sure why you say it doesn't like hot humid conditions. All plants, even ones that like moisture in the air need air circulation to not get powdery mildew
hi, I just love rosemary I bought one yesterday I don, have a garden right now and all my windows are N but I keep it in an old AC window with some good light will it make it in tell we move to the new home . thank you any way .
Paris is in growing zone 8b. Growing zones, or plant hardiness zones are the standards by which gardeners can determine which plants are most likely to thrive at that location.
From what i read anything below 15 f could kill it. But people grow it in their herb gardens here in New York and it gets below zero some winters. So if the temps go below 15 f bring some of the plants inside.
Mine is in a pot and growing outside. After a rain I noticed the container still has water. I drained it out and drill more holes in the bottom of the container and water not much, but after two weeks now, I noticed the tips started dropping down and at the bottom, the branches looked dry.... I guess the roots are rotten... 😕
Guadalupe drooping leaves on a Rosemary bush can only mean not enough water. Stick your finger two inches in the soil and if dry it needs watering. If your roots are rotting it will not droop but simple die. If you believe the roots are rotting you can simple re-pot. 1. Remove plant and shake off all soil. 2. Trim any rotting roots and 3. re-pot with fresh potting soil. (Make sure pot has plenty of holes and drains well.)
Anais. First of all you should not be using common soil. potted plants should have potting soil which contains peat, composted bark, and perlite. Peat and composted bark are important nutrients and perlite is important to keep the soil from becoming compacted. All of these degrade over time and can only be properly replaced by replacing the soil. Another important reason for re-potting is to create more room for the roots to grow. that can be accomplished by using a bigger pot or simply shaking all soil from the roots and trimming those roots back by about half. By trimming you get rid of any rotting roots and you force the plant into a grow cycle. I actually do this with all potted plants when they start looking unhealthy, usually every one or two years. There are many Re-potting videos on youtube to show the step by step process.
Never heard of that, gonna give it a try this year!
Wow, thank you so much for posting that! Never would've thought!
Used coconut oil to put on my legs after shaving and i noticed the same thing!
Awww, man...coconut oil makes my skin itch! I read that some have that issue with it. I NEED a good natural mosquito repellent...they are eating me alive!
Oh my god! A rosemary plant has flowers too! And your plant has such beautifully colored flowers!
5 years later and here I am! Thank you for this. A coworker told me to drown the roots and keep it out of the light. My plant is still dying though so now I'm gonna try it your way. Less water and more sun. I'll keep you updated! 😊

Yes neem is awesome. I used a neem oil spray on my tomato plants a couple years back when they were getting spider mites.

@@TheAshberry3 I wasn't trimming it the way he said to. And I didn't wait until the branches drooped to water like he said to.

I hate trimming my rosemary...i feel like I'm hurting it...silly I know
@Maxwell Smart ROFL!!
I get that. You probably are, if we could read plant vibrations. With that said, maybe it doesn't hurt so much as shock the plant a little.
It's not silly I feel da sameee
I think of trimming my plants as hair cuts, it helps me LOL

Does the rosemary smell really strong when you run it on yourself???
Definitely, even after you wash your hands you can still smell it.
I live in South Texas, had my Rosemary for 4 years,. Sadly it suddenly died on me,
It's either another Rosemary or some lavender come spring.

How often should I water ?
Usually, you look at the soil, once it looks almost dry then you water thoroughly and wait until its almost dry to water again.

HOW DO I GET SEED FOR ROSEMARY IF I DO NOT HAVE THE TREE
some stores sell small plants in the fresh food section for herbs for cooking
Amazon you can buy seeds
Hard to get the seeds to germinate, better to get a starter plant from a greenhouse.
You can also make tea
Mine started dying as soon as I transplanted a damn shame
Mine is dying I need to save it😬
and i thought my 3 inch plant was big
Thanks.
thanks
