One awesome way to use Rosemary is to cut the woody stems, pull off the leaves (and use them elsewhere) and weave the stems through some kind of meat (steak, chicken even fish) and cook or grill. It infuses the oils into the meat and tastes amazing. Then, toss the used sticks into the coals or wood for smoking and it infuses anything else you cook with with the rosemary. I have 4 rosemary plants in zone 7 and it grows outside all year round.

I'm in zone 7 to and same with me, it grows year round. However I just planted my first 3 last year in one 15 gallon Root Pouch fabric grow bag and they are thriving in it even with all the cold in the teens, snow and ice we've had. I know if I plant it in the ground it'll die. I just ignore it and maybe give it some water during the summer when I think about it and it's about 24-26in tall now. If it survives me it'll survive anything. Thank you for sharing all the great ideas. It's an amazing plant in so many ways.
George Washington’s Mount Vernon is also in zone seven and they grow verdant rosemary there in the ground. It is amazing, supple, beautiful Rosemary and I am entirely jealous.

I love trimming my rosemary and washing, then wrapping in a dish towel until it dries. Then I use my herb grinder to make Rosemary Powder. It gives everything such a great taste!
I planted my rosemary from one of those mini Christmas trees made from rosemary. It is now 5 feet high and wide. I have never fertilized it in the six years it has been growing. It's amazing and the bees love it!

I'm in 7b in Virginia. My huge barrel-grown rosemary has been outside over 15 years. I couldn't bring it inside if I tried. It blooms and smells wonderful. I do give it a good trim in the spring. Love your videos.

I also love to rub the plant and then rub my hands together to get a sniff of it often or just take a little leaf (or whatever it's called) and chew it.
Thank you for your tips on growing rosemary. I didn’t know about how you don’t need to fertilize and how overwatering can affect the health of the plant. Also the tip on using a terracotta pot would help also plus putting a gravel layered terracotta potting dish underneath it. Live and learn…lol!
I'm on the 6b/7a line and I've successfully grown two rosemary plants for over 10 years by planting them next to the house foundation in south facing sun. Some branches may get winter burn, but a trim in the early Spring and they bounce right back. I think they protection they get from harsh winter wind helps.

I lost only one to a burst (plastic) pot and bagged soil that did not get any water (dripper) the first summer before I replanted them. All the rest I took out of the pots and stuck in the ground all over the yard. Another was nearly dead, so I trimmed it to whatever was still alive (not much) and put it in the ground. I didn't think it would live, but it did. Several years later and all I have to do is swear at them now and then (don't you bleeping dare die on me!) and I can trim them each spring and use the leaves (after drying them in the sun for a week) as mulch in my veggies. Three 10 gallon buckets full.
I am 76 grandma and from the time I was very young I have always made my grandmothers homemade chicken noodle soup with dumplings later on in life I discovered Bay leaves to put in the soup. It gave it the most amazing flavor. Everybody raved. I don’t know what they’ve done to the Bailey’s that you buy in the store but they are not the same doesn’t seem to have the same flavor in the soup so I’ve always wanted to grow mine so this information is going to be perfect . Hopefully when I get through reading this, my claimant will be perfect or I’ll just try in the house plant
I’m In Australia, our rosemary grows like yours, huge and my area gets down to freezing in winter and it’s totally fine all year round. Aside from using fresh, I like to freeze dry it, grind into a rough powder and add with good quality salt to make a rosemary salt for seasoning potatoes, lamb, etc
I live in Boston MA. and I leave my rosemary plant outside in the ground all year. I cut it back a little bit so the snow won't break its branches. Also I put the fall leave around the base.Has worked for me so far.

Our family absolutely loves using it when cooking potatoes and chicken. My wife also uses rosemary water to rinse her hair to help promote hair growth.
I’m in 9b. My neighbor planted it as a hedge around their lawn. I rarely get to see more than a few flowers as their gardener keeps it shaped as a hedge. Works well and it’s quite thick. It saved me from having to plant it in my herb garden. I use it in all kinds of things, including shortbread as another mentioned.
I just love aloe of your too tricks and advice! I live in idaho, which is an amazing place we have outside raised beds and an entire watermelon and vine plant patch! We also have a huge greenhouse! I’m just getting into this gardening and growing all my own plants for our own use and for selling to local communities. It’s amazing but I’m learning so much. I'm in Calgary and my main rosemary is doing amazing in a large fabric growbag. I've also got cuttings of it and ones I started form seed growing in plastic pots but those are much more watering sensitive since they have a lot less soil with less drainage. So I'd definitely recommend a large fabric growbag for a rosemary shrub if you need it to be portable over any other type of pot.
I live in Montana and have been training a ball-type rosemary topiary for about four years. I do think they like the dry climate once they are bigger, but the weather is otherwise brutal. Even in the summer I often don’t put it out some days. Of course, it’s easy to move. What do you do with yours in the winter?

I’m zone 7A or 7B. I have two plant happily growing my garden. They even have new growth. We even had frost and snow this winter. They bloom later than yours does though. Beautiful 3’ shrub. I prune it quite short every year after blooming.

I'm the winter i make focaccia bread every 4 or 5 days. I love the stuff. I split and toast it for sandwiches. Makes an awesome fish sandwich or hamburger bun. I have made grilled cheese or of it to. Yummy! Can't send to grow it though. Winter hard freezes get it.
I have the best luck overwintering my rosemary when I cut it off and root it over the winter..(zone 6a sw Michigan)..i have never had luck bringing it inside in the pot and keeping it.
I'm 5b/6a they aren't sure which we are...and I have to buy rosemary every year. I have trouble with it in the house...I guess I water too much . we have a wood stove so I think things need more water...too late this year but I'll try again next year ...I love rosemary. Thank you.😃
I'm in zone 7a and have 2 Rosemary plants in the ground that have successfully made through ever winter until the 16 degree Christmas artic blast. Thank goodness, the oldest plant, that is right outside the house seems to be making a comeback now! I can't tell you how glad I am because it's a big, beautiful bush and I love it!
I'm in 7b and I love rosemary with roasted meats and veggies. I planted mine in a herb/tea garden in the worst soil I think there is and although it doesn't get full sun all day it gets the hottest from noon until sundown. I never water it, have never fertilized it and it's doing great! I have covered in winter in the past but the bags always blew off. I haven't covered it this year and I think something has been munching on it! :( Time will tell if it survives this year or not but something tells me it will! I'm taking cuttings to root this weekend just in case. I have it planted with my lavenders and thyme and oregano.
Zone 8 - It got so cold the other month that my 6 y/o well established in-ground Rosemary dropped every single leaf this year. I wasn't expecting that as I've never had any problems during winter here. It may have been all the rain. It has been very wet this winter. Sounds like I may have lost my Rosemary.
Awesome video! Though not recommended I managed to have thyme, rosemary, and sage thriving in the same 2 foot pot it's custom made of course but this has provided me with excellent visuals for my culinary herbs
I'm in north Idaho, Zone 6, with freezing temps for 1-2 months, and my Rosemary thrives. In fact, I have to prune it back during summer. However, my Rosemary doesn't have flowers, so maybe it's a different variety. I put lots of it in everything, from beef /pork/ chicken soup and stews, to pork chops and roasted chicken /beef. I also take the long stems and put them into my fresh flower arrangements. Their essential oils really scent a room and are unique even if just a bouquet of Rosemary.
I grew Rosemary in Zone 6 making me replant every year. I'n now in. Zone 8a-b and I just let let it grow. I was surprise that it came up every year. 2022-23 I've been lax at cutting down anything. I did trim all my rosemary plants but should have cut them all down. I have a lot of dead branches and new growth at the moment so it's a pick and choose kinda deal. My plants have been thriving and grow like weeds. Soil is sandy clay so drainage doesnt seem to be an issue. Herbs are the easiest thing for me to grow and I have a lot of it so I have plenty of herbs!
I have an established rosemary plant that must be 10 years old. It has been ignored, starved, been through droughts, and this past Christmas when we had brutal below-freezing temps for 3 days -- survived and thrived. It is in the center of the garden, protected somewhat from wind by raised beds and fence, but it is a survivor!!!
I am in zone 4. I have an Arp Rosemary plant. It’s temp resistant to above 5 degrees and higher and I have it in a frost resistant pot. Kept it outside in summer and it flourished, then brought it in for winter, in a southern window, but now it’s March and it’s looking sad and ready to die. I need to revive this beautiful plant!

I’m going to transplant it to a clay pot and sit it on gravel. I’m thinking I might need to trim it back, but not sure if I should before or after I transplant it. Any recommendations? BTW, I’m zone 7 and it stays out year round. I do mulch it really well for winter and that seems to keep it alive.
I have one that is growing in 9b for almost 2 years now but it has yet to flower like yours-wonder if there are different varieties. I love it in chicken dishes or inside the cavity with other aromatics when roasting whole and it's great on roasted potatoes.
I used to live in zone 6b on coastal Rhode Island and I had a mature Rosemary plant that survived the snow and winters. It was planted next to the house facing SSW.
I'm in Zone 9b and rosemary grows great without any assistance at all, even in my heavy clay soil (on a slight hill). Use it in marinades for pork and beef, and to rest and cook on chicken. PS: Pruning never hurts it either.
Living in zone 10, when I saw the video title I wondered if it was a trick question. Really I've never had a rosemary plant die, and at my last house my rosemary plant was 18 years old with a fat gnarly trunk. I'm truly sorry for those who have trouble growing this wonderful herb!
After almost 15 years my massive rosemary looks as if it was drowned after the 15 inches of rains in two days from our most recent tropical storm that hit the east coast a few weeks back I’m praying it survives l have never babied it fertilizes it actually simply ignored it other than cuttings for cooking and herbal preparations fingers crossed it makes a comeback…will have to plant in raised soil from now on
I like eating the green needles all by them selves. I love covering sandwiches with the needles. Also, when making homemade bread or pizza dough, some gets chopped and added when making the fresh dough.

We love rosemary! I use it to make tea and flavor soups, I also nibble on the little needles just by themselves.

I’m zone 7A or 7B. I have two plant happily growing my garden. They even have new growth. We even had frost and snow this winter.
They bloom later than yours does though. Beautiful 3’ shrub. I prune it quite short every year after blooming.

I have a Rosemary plant for 7-8 years in Atlanta zone 7 and never bloomed and probably died in a unseasonal cold snap 18-20 degrees. Thanks for more excellent information!

7b here. I grow rosemary easily. Outdoors year around.
I'm the winter i make focaccia bread every 4 or 5 days. I love the stuff. I split and toast it for sandwiches. Makes an awesome fish sandwich or hamburger bun. I have made grilled cheese or of it to. Yummy! Can't send to grow it though. Winter hard freezes get it.
I have the best luck overwintering my rosemary when I cut it off and root it over the winter..(zone 6a sw Michigan)..i have never had luck bringing it inside in the pot and keeping it.
I'm 5b/6a they aren't sure which we are...and I have to buy rosemary every year. I have trouble with it in the house...I guess I water too much . we have a wood stove so I think things need more water...too late this year but I'll try again next year ...I love rosemary. Thank you.😃

I'm in zone 7a and have 2 Rosemary plants in the ground that have successfully made through ever winter until the 16 degree Christmas artic blast. Thank goodness, the oldest plant, that is right outside the house seems to be making a comeback now! I can't tell you how glad I am because it's a big, beautiful bush and I love it!
I'm in 7b and I love rosemary with roasted meats and veggies. I planted mine in a herb/tea garden in the worst soil I think there is and although it doesn't get full sun all day it gets the hottest from noon until sundown. I never water it, have never fertilized it and it's doing great! I have covered in winter in the past but the bags always blew off. I haven't covered it this year and I think something has been munching on it! :( Time will tell if it survives this year or not but something tells me it will! I'm taking cuttings to root this weekend just in case. I have it planted with my lavenders and thyme and oregano.
Zone 8 - It got so cold the other month that my 6 y/o well established in-ground Rosemary dropped every single leaf this year. I wasn't expecting that as I've never had any problems during winter here. It may have been all the rain. It has been very wet this winter. Sounds like I may have lost my Rosemary.

I'm in north Idaho, Zone 6, with freezing temps for 1-2 months, and my Rosemary thrives. In fact, I have to prune it back during summer. However, my Rosemary doesn't have flowers, so maybe it's a different variety. I put lots of it in everything, from beef /pork/ chicken soup and stews, to pork chops and roasted chicken /beef. I also take the long stems and put them into my fresh flower arrangements. Their essential oils really scent a room and are unique even if just a bouquet of Rosemary.
I grew Rosemary in Zone 6 making me replant every year. I'n now in. Zone 8a-b and I just let let it grow. I was surprise that it came up every year. 2022-23 I've been lax at cutting down anything. I did trim all my rosemary plants but should have cut them all down. I have a lot of dead branches and new growth at the moment so it's a pick and choose kinda deal. My plants have been thriving and grow like weeds. Soil is sandy clay so drainage doesnt seem to be an issue. Herbs are the easiest thing for me to grow and I have a lot of it so I have plenty of herbs!

I have an established rosemary plant that must be 10 years old. It has been ignored, starved, been through droughts, and this past Christmas when we had brutal below-freezing temps for 3 days -- survived and thrived. It is in the center of the garden, protected somewhat from wind by raised beds and fence, but it is a survivor!!!
I love to close my eyes and deep breathe lavender! My happy place!

Zone 8a, ours got as big as a holly bush and had to be taken out. We use it in olive oil and when cooking a pork tenderloin
I am in zone 4. I have an Arp Rosemary plant. It’s temp resistant to above 5 degrees and higher and I have it in a frost resistant pot. Kept it outside in summer and it flourished, then brought it in for winter, in a southern window, but now it’s March and it’s looking sad and ready to die. I need to revive this beautiful plant!
I get seeds of varieties of Rosemary that say they are hardy to zone 4 some even down to 3.
Thank you for sharing this information! I have a Rosemary plant that I’ve had for several years in a big non-clay pot outside, but it just doesn’t look very pretty. In fact it’s gotten woody. I’m going to transplant it to a clay pot and sit it on gravel. I’m thinking I might need to trim it back, but not sure if I should before or after I transplant it. Any recommendations?
BTW, I’m zone 7 and it stays out year round. I do mulch it really well for winter and that seems to keep it alive.

Lost my 2 large plants I’ve had for years due to an unusual hard freeze in December. Lucky I took cuttings earlier so I still have a couple of starts.
I have one that is growing in 9b for almost 2 years now but it has yet to flower like yours-wonder if there are different varieties. I love it in chicken dishes or inside the cavity with other aromatics when roasting whole and it's great on roasted potatoes.

I'm in Zone 9b and rosemary grows great without any assistance at all, even in my heavy clay soil (on a slight hill). Use it in marinades for pork and beef, and to rest and cook on chicken. PS: Pruning never hurts it either.

Living in zone 10, when I saw the video title I wondered if it was a trick question. Really I've never had a rosemary plant die, and at my last house my rosemary plant was 18 years old with a fat gnarly trunk. I'm truly sorry for those who have trouble growing this wonderful herb!

After almost 15 years my massive rosemary looks as if it was drowned after the 15 inches of rains in two days from our most recent tropical storm that hit the east coast a few weeks back I’m praying it survives l have never babied it fertilizes it actually simply ignored it other than cuttings for cooking and herbal preparations fingers crossed it makes a comeback…will have to plant in raised soil from now on

I think my rosemary got too hot in the coastal Texas drought last year, and then I tried to compensate by over-watering. I’ll try again this year.
I wish these channels would explain what each zone is. Some of us aren’t savvy in all the gardening lingo yet.

I like eating the green needles all by them selves. I love covering sandwiches with the needles. Also, when making homemade bread or pizza dough, some gets chopped and added when making the fresh dough.
