What timing!! Yesterday while shopping at a new local store, I walked by the stand with herbs and found just like you show. I have been messing with propagating plant and bought the package. Today I will follow your instructions . Thankyou!!!!
Yes, it's a mediterranean plant actually growing in dry or even sandy soil. I think of you grow them in that water reservoir you might want to harvest for cooking first and then regrow from small stems again, repeating the process.
I tried this method years ago as soon as the roots were a couple of ins I put them in a 12ins pot a neighbor suggested mixing some sand with soil so living on the coast that's no problem all 4 are now one big bush standing at least 13/14 ins from soil level there now part of my garden display of ferns, plum tree, chives, kyle, sage and the like that I have basically waited for them to root then stuck them into a pot,
Thank you for this informative video! I had been wondering if those fresh Rosemary cutting in the grocery store could root. I live in a rural mountain area where there are no rosemary plants for sale. I ordered some live ones off Amazon a few weeks ago, but they all arrived dead. 😔 I did not want to try growing from seed. So I will go ahead and get some of the fresh sprigs for cooking from my local market and when they root, I'll be planting them in some succulent soil and see what happens. At least I know that the store herbs can root now! That is so cool! Thank you again! 🙂

With most plants, they'll slowly drink up the water and the roots would still be a healthy white, even after long periods of time. And thats how kratky hydroponics works. With rosemary in particular though, its a dry climate plant that doesnt love excess water. Ive tried this a few additional times and could never get them to continue growing in hydroponic environments, even though they start so well. Seems soil is key for this plant

Lol you're leaving out the part about how growing rosemary from seed teaches you Zen levels of patience. First you gotta wait longer than your used to by like 3x-7x longer for them to sprout. I personally really like you video and am hopeless with cuttings but may improve with care.
I successfully grew a whole herb garden thanks to your instructions! My mint is going bonkers and will need repotting soon because it's pushing leca out of the cup and I'm having to trim back "underground" branches that grow in all directions (including towards the roots!) every couple days. I'm guessing I'll have to cut open the net cup when up-potting. Any tips on an easy way to remove overgrown plants in net cup without causing too much damage to the root system?
Love to hear you’re having success! Mint definitely grows fast. If you’re going to keep going with hydroponics, I would just move the net cup/plant to a bigger reservoir. I’ve never really had a need for a bigger net cup. If you want to try transplanting into some soil, cutting the net cup is probably the way to go. I’ve pulled plants out of net cups before- some roots will rip off, but if you’re able to keep 75% or more of them, the plant typically recovers fine in my experience. Good luck! Would love to hear how it turns out
Might also be a good option to keep propagating cuttings into new plants and having a cycle of small plants going as opposed to growing a big plant. I do this with basil and it works well for me!

My guess about the roots are that you first had it in jars painted white which would have made it 'light' inside the jar. The foil though, created a darker invironment and if it were placed in a sunny area, the water also became too hot and increased the chance for bacteria to grow.
I was adding hydroponic nutrients to the water. To move it to soil, I would do the same water propagation stuff at the start of the video. Once your roots are an inch or two long, move the plant into soil. Water it thoroughly and dont let it dry out. Within a week or so the plant should start adjust and start growing again. Depends on the size of your pot, but 2-3 plants is likely fine!
Ive never tried bleach, but that sounds super risky, even once diluted. Hydrogen peroxide however is totally safe to add to your reservoirs and will kill off any algae, mold, etc that might be growing. Use the 3% diluted stuff.

Well if you have the time and interest, try this. I think I’ll just go to the local gardening store to purchase a rosemary plant to stick into some soil. I suspect with minimal attention I won’t end up with black roots or dead plants
I would have changed the reservoir at the first signs of plant distress. It’s possible the ph was out of line, or there was something funky in the tap water somehow that day. Because I was leaving the plant for 2 weeks, I moved it from its original spot to a place with less light so it hopefully wouldn’t dry out before I made it back. I’m assuming this change contributed to shocking the plant.
I’ve grown hundreds of plants with the Kratky method and never had this happen, so I’m assuming more regular attention could have helped prevent it. At the very least, I could have taken cuttings and propagated new plants to try again
