Why can’t they replace the cartilage instead of full on knee replacements
They don t have the technology to replace cartilage.
Great recommendations. Thank you.
1. USE A CANE
(to decrease weight on the knee for a while to help decrease inflammation).
2. GET MOVEMENT IN THE KNEE
(without weight bearing, eg. use an elliptical floor peddler).
3. STRENGTHEN HIP & KNEE
(do strengthening exercises - as shown).
You guys should check your volume setting before you record. I'm hanging on every word you're speaking and it's like someone is turning down the volume at the same time. I will have to send it from my tablet to my pc so I can hear it better. But otherwise it's very helpful info you are sharing. Much thanks.
Lol so true ,I was just saying the same thing
Me too, can hardly hear a word
True I can hardly hear
Itz there older videos
I use captions
I am 53 years old. I have had a knee problem for 40 years: after 4 arthroscopic cartilage removals in my young age I no longer have any cartilage or knee ligaments on the left side, and doctors are already recommending a knee prosthesis. I started cycling 10 years ago and since that time my knee doesn't hurt at all. Doctors say I should already be in a wheelchair with my knees in this condition. I'm not going for prosthetic surgery. Regular knee-friendly exercises like yoga, callanetics, gentle long-distance cycling and cartilage-supporting nutrition and dietary supplements are sufficient.
I was wondering if you could help me as my knee feels like bone against bone. It only hurts if I bend it in bed and certain times of the day but it is gradually getting worse. I'm 65 overweight and diabetic. Any recommendations in food to eat and ones to steer away from. I heard tomatoes are bad for arthritis. Thank you.
@@lynettedevries1824 @lynette devries Read up on Cellgevity and see if it can help you. It helped my friend who had multiple issues. It is a supplement and can also help with your weight and diabetics ad well. You have to make up your mind to make some lifetime changes to help you get better. Cheers and best of lifetime luck 👍🏾
What supplements I have same issues do not want surgery ....
@@lynettedevries1824 my super food, which helped A LOT is the following:
- 1 big jar raw homemade honey (apprx 1 kg) - NO SUPERMARKET PRODUCT!
- a bigger piece of raw ginger grated (apprx 4-5 tablespoon)
- 4-5 coffee spoon of cinnamon powder
- 4-5 coffee spoon of curcuma powder
- 4-5 piece of onion grated (could be left out because of the smell, but also important ingredient)
Put all the parts into the honey, stir well. Every morning I take a tablespoon of this mixture, and then I drink an ACV (apple cider vinegar) water drink immediately (put 1 tablespoon in a glass of water). This mixture is also good for weight loss 💕🥰. This is enough for 3-4 months.
Do not forget to do a mild knee protective gymnastics 3 times a week, like yoga, callanetics, etc, even it hurts at the beginning.
If you have the possibility, try out cycling in a clean nature.
It is absolutely helpful you'll see! But give a little time for healing, it takes weeks, months. Be patient. 🥰
Store-bought knees are the only solution. I've had mine for 4 years now! The fact I can't even tell when a storm is coming anymore is the only downside! Lol!
Again as others have said the volume is very low on your mikes. Thank you very much for the advice, it was very helpful to me. Thanks for the upload. 😊🇨🇦
I had orthoscopic surgery May 2nd. (I was to have a torn Meniscus disc removed and ended up having major surgery!! - 2 torn Meniscus removed, bones shaved and some cartilage removed.) I went in being told that I would walk out without a cane or crutches and have very little pain, but... when I woke up after surgery.... I was sobbing in severe pain and had to be wheeled out in a wheelchair which I am still having to use. -- Before surgery, I could walk but might have to use a cane off and on. Since surgery, I have no use of my left leg at all. I can not lift my leg, bend my knee or straighten it. I can not use my leg at all and the Orthopedic Surgeon says that I can Not do PT at all because... Besides being in the Rare 1% of people who experience severe pain and slow healing... I, 1) I am still in severe pain 2) I am severely swollen from about 8" above my knee to my toes and 3) I have fluid on the knee that can not be drained at this time. --- Now, we are going to try an Unloader brace and on Tuesday I will get my Unloader Brace for my left knee. (to see it that will help??) - I do have Bone on Bone in both knees but my right knee does not give me any trouble at all (until I try to walk up a steep hill or stairs.) -- Do you (Please??) Have any suggestions on how to get my mobility back or... Am I seriously going to just have to break down and go in for a Total Knee Replacement as suggested if the Unloader does not help?? (sigh) (I also have Diabetes which helps to slow healing) :(
PSL Because I can not use my entire leg in any way ... I can not do any of these exercises. :(
I am a retired Reg Nurse in Saskatchewan Canada. Have watched and learned from Bob and Brad for a few years. Looking forward to welcoming Mike into the picture. Rock on Bob! You are an inspiration!
Where is the 2nd microphone?
I think my treadle from a sewing machine's treadle is a decent replacement for the peddle thing you show. It's holding up my dining table so it's always there to play with. Cheers
Rose Cedar... You funny 😂😂
Hi Rose are you talking about those vintage singer non-electric sewing machines? Cuz those are really neat they keep you feet going up and down on the bottom platform that moves the flywheel next to the mechanical sewing construction. Is that what you're talking about it's a great machine
These two men have save me (and our older daughter) endless hours of pain. WE both have arthritis and wear & tear on our knees. I bought the peddler and that is incredible help plus all the other exercises! THANK YOU BOTH!
Don't want to have knee surgery however have bone on bone plus arthritis..did I mention I'm a professional skater for 40++yrs..don't take pain meds in lots of pain
Thank you
ive heard fasting regenarates cartlidge
As an active person well into my 60s everyone I know with bone in bone has done the knee replacement or hip replacement. Maybe because they wanted to stay hiking or skiing. Everyone I know have been very happy with the results. My mom had both total knee replacement and hip replaced in her late 70s and it went very well. My brother in law did a total knee replacement last year and he is back hiking and skiing. Before the replacement he could barley walk.
I have no attancion to do knee replacement at ,70 I need it now not when I'm 70 definitely they are not going to experiment on me at that age
I’m 54, need knee replacement, and still ski with no problem. It’s just walking uphill to the chairlift is torture! And I can’t run or hike anymore!
@@isabellathomas8936 That is not very old. My mom lived well into her 90s. To live in daily pain and with very limited mobility which also has a profound effect on your overall health makes no sense. To each his own.
@@jondstewart I am sure if you have it done you will be very happy you did. My brother-in-law is back leading an active lifestyle and has no regrets other than waiting a few to many years to get it done. I wish you well, take care
There are limits as to how much physical therapy can help knee arthritis and pain. NOTHING worked for me until I got a total knee replacement, now my knee is pain free and functions like new. All this other crap is a total waste of time.
Replying to James Cardilege uh.. I mean Garrison.. same problem. I'm in constant pain. I have a physical therapist come to my home and we do all these exercises even walking. I try to keep it up during the week but it is so painful. Both knees are bone on bone digging in to each other. They will not give me replacements until I'm lost more weight. I've lost 80 lb but I'm still overweight. But it's hard to lose weight when you can't exercise. I try to exercise my arms but they hurt too. I know I sound like a whiny baby but I hurt😬😬
Hi comments are interesting. I would like to add my experience. Almost 10 years ago I suffered a skiing accident shattering my tibial plateau. I had bone grafting from my hip, multiple metal plates and 8 large screws. Recovery took a long time, I had to wear a metal sided brace from hip to ankle for about 1year. Gradually the brace was reduced in size to thigh to mid calf. I don't have any cartilage in my knee but don't need to wear a brace now. Unfortunately I'm not comfortable skiing. I have persevered and do a lot of fell walking. I usually wear a support on my knee which I feel keeps my knee more stable and also eases any pain. I take Glucosamine and Naproxen which I find helps. I am nearly 72 so thank you for reading my experiences. I hope it will encourage others not to give up
Try turmeric. Same scenario with me too.
Now I need a hearing aid to hear what you're saying
Rheumatoid arthritis, I have through my whole body, it depends on what part of body I can't move, sometimes my hand will allow me do anything, my knee left knee, won't move, I after help with my hand to move, and once I am up I can move very slowly. Need know what exercise I can do
I just wanna know how to deal with osteoarthritis knee flare ups. I have flares so bad they cause me to be bedridden. My latest one lasted 5 months before I could walk again.
You really need to be doing something preventative all the time to help a flare-up not happen or to not be as severe. Exercising, what you're eating, maybe having a yearly in jail injection or every 6 months or something else or adding all these things together but you can't just do nothing because it's a degenerative disease.
i cannot thanke u enough i have bone to bon in booth knees lately and donot know how ti manage my life with the new illness😢
I have bone on bone for now its shots and pt when I need plus I have bad arthritis in the back of my knee the dr was surprised my knee hasnt gave out on me
Hi you guys, i have bone on bone, knie, and my knie is very swollen on the incide and it veels if it is collapsing cant go got knee surgery please help
Thank you I have been trying the exercises but it is so painful
Pain is an indication to NOT do what you are doing, is it not? EXCERSIING an degenerative arthritic joint may only keep a range of motion and will do nothing for the basic pathology (cartilage loss and joint narrowing). Where did these people go to school? or did the at all!
thanks guys, easy to understand, straight to point. Very helpful.
This is one of the best related videos I’ve watched in ages. Simple exercises, no expensive machinery and clearly illustrated. I’m 70 and have problems in both knees - very little or no cartilage. I’ve been considering surgery but will try these exercises for a few months and see how it goes. Thanks Bob and Brad.
The total knee replacement surgery is brutal. Try every other option. I am very unhappy with mine. Rather have the old pain than this constant nerve pain, especially at night.
@@Rosary716 Sorry to hear that but I think its quite common, hence why I've decided not to go ahead with mine; despite chronic pain. Hope things improve for you. Bob and Brad are my only hope for pain relief now. Take care.
@@jennyoshea1958 I think that’s a wise decision. It’s almost a full year post surgery and I’m still in pain 24/7. My quality of life has drastically changed. The toll on my mental heath is terrible. I barely go anywhere and have chronic insomnia. I only occasionally sleep more than 3 restless hours. Changing position in bed wakes me. There a constant feeling that my kneecap is on fire. Material rubbing against it still hurts. I’ve tried EVERYTHING to get relief excepts drugs, as no doctor wants to prescribe them. 😢 Stairs are a huge obstacle. The crunching sounds are loud and it feels unstable. I’d rather lose my other leg than go through this again.
@@Rosary716 It appears to me that a lot of people need more surgery to correct issues. Like you, I am in constant pain but the thought of it becoming worse with surgery, terrifies me plus I hate general anesthesia. Once again so sorry that you had to go through it all for nothing. Be strong. Best wishes and find a little comfort in knowing you are not alone 🙏✨☀️
@@jennyoshea1958 Thank you. I hope PT and whatever other options you choose help you. I get injections in my other knee that help.
These exercises are for me! I’m disabled with arthritic bone on bone kness
Need surgery urgent
I can’t raise my leg at all. Come to find out I have edema so now I’m going to see another Doctor. Also having an echo.
Elliptical machine is not on your website as you say on video !!
My doc said the cartilage I have left in my knee is peeling off the bone.
Very informative, fun to watch
I have O A in my left knee I've got a flare up i have been doing excerice s it did start to get better but its flared up cant walk on it had it for 4 weeks now will it get better thank you
I think leg crossing (bad habit) causes bone-on-bone because of the weight pressed on top of your knee. I know when I go a long period of time...days, without crossing my legs, my knees feel so much better. I will insert these tips along with mine. Thanks guys!! :-)
Hi, I was wondering if you could possibly provide a link to the Peddling device you were demonstrating in this video? We have a stationary bike. It is a little hard on my bone on bone knees. Do you think this might be a good alternative with less stress on the knees?
Try MBST or magnetic resonance therapy which is a non invasive natural way to rejuvenate any part of our musculoskeletal structure to treat such ailments
I appreciate the straight forward approach you two have and how clearly you explain things. Am going to give these a try. Hyper-extension damage in both my knees that has left some arthritis. Add to that back injury and degeneration that makes it tough to walk/stand for periods of time, so hoping the exercises will help and going to be looking for one of those elliptical machines too. Hoping for good results.
If you strengthen your abs your lower abdominal muscles by laying on your back and raising your straight legs together with arms flat palm side down at your sides and head never lifting slowly raise your legs together up off the ground and raise them up towards your chest or as far as you can then slowly lower them back down remember no lifting your head or chest do this daily about 10 times and do that again at night any abdominal excercises to strengthen your tummy will support your back align your posture and you must lose excess weight. If you have poor slumped over posture and a big heavy tummy and you are not healthy not eating enough fresh fruit and vegetables only fast deep fried or microwave food or tons of carbs pastas mashed potatoes home fries breads pizzas gravy and sauces frappaccinos smoothies and milkshakes you are digging yourself into a pit. Its the equivalence to carrying a 100ft metal pole while standing in 3 ft of water wearing headgear and bangles during a lightening storm in the middle of a field ...why do i feel shocked because you are doing things that are for certain going to cause create and exacerbate damage to your body. Hyperextension happens also when instead of using your stomach muscles you torque your knee joints to do your leaning fwd. Imagine the weight of 3 people pulling your spinal column back folding into itself. Backs are not supposed to move that way. Then comes the domino effect one by one you have compression neuro compression those nerves are spasming pulling your lamina and.lumbar vertebrae out of alignment...strengthen your tummy muscles exercise walk abdominal exercises lose weight. Cut out fast food if u must eat fast food get wendys baked potato and a small chili. Or opt for a pollo loco chicken salad Caesar. Hope this helps and oh no diet drinks..its poison very very toxic bad for your body chemistry very bad. Hope this helps. I lost 117 lbs no diets no surgery or weird fad diets. Portion control sun chips no potato chips and walking then dancing at home and then belly dancing hula dancing tahitian dancing i was surfing not now though. Too many sharks and stingrays scary.
Hello ever since I dislocated my patella Ive been having pain under my kneecap. It doesn't hurt when I walk or run but when I squat it hurts and has been preventing me from building my quads. I have lifted my patella up and felt under it and it's quite tender. I think it might be a cartilage problem but would greatly appreciate a expert opinion.
Then go see a doctor! Good Lord!
Z
I offered to do informercials for synvisc
I’m doing it. But I can’t wait to get knee replacement. This is good though. Keep the muscle and juices flowing so PT will be better.
Educate yourself on the post-surgery comments. It's not always better, sometimes worse. Just hope you know that, best wishes. Big Hug
Ur volume needs w b turned up can barely hear u
You guys are the best I suffer with bone on bone arthritis and I am indecisive about TKR. I am going to give these exercises a try. Great advice thanks
My kneecap feels like it is scraping against my tibia bone. I can’t receive treatment until workers comp approves my case. What can I do to stop it from rubbing?
What worked for me was an upgraded form of the exercise recommended by Dr. (in fact I think he is a chiropractor so he may not be a Dr.) John Bergman ua-cam.com/video/wP1Vv5Bzw_Q/v-deo.html who recommends weighting your ankles and swinging them back and forth while seated on a table. That is okay but it is very boring and at only 10 minutes a day, it is not surprising that he says it can take years.
The principle is that you should be moving your knees while pulling them apart, so that they do not rub and make themselves worse (more worn) and to get the blood in there.
I find that cycling with shoes that have cleats (SPD or SPD-SL) that attach to the pedals, and then only use the rear, upswing part, of the pedal cycle so that you are pulling on the pedals to go along. This way you can pull on your knees, and move them, for an hour or more a day as you cycle to work for instance (you can make your commute longer by taking a detour too).
Another gentler way is to go swimming with large flippers. There will be no gravity on your knees and part of the flipping cycle will I think be pulling your knees.
Additionally I find that glucosamine helps. If I pull my knees by cycling and crunch on some glucosamine before my rides I find I can lay down a bit of meniscus in a couple of days, I think. I am not taking the "activated" glucosamine sulphate either just the cheapest stuff made out of shrimp and crab shells.
I give an evolutionary reason why the above may work here below.

You guys are the greatest. Such helpful videos! Thank you for your instructions to help my old knees!

Am hardly hearing you all check your volume
I'm bone on bone in my right knee and 75% bone on bone in my left knee. I am almost 36.. I just started doing cortisone shots 3 months ago. My doctor wants to get me until I'm 40 or 45. My question is will the shots hold me for a good 9 to 10 years?
Is there anything else to be done for bone on bone without surgery ? 🤦♀️ I have bone on bone in both knees . I’m 56
Me too! They want me to wait until I'm 60 to have a replacement. I'm going to lose some weight, cut out sugar and take cod liver oil. Maybe I can get by the next few years!! Good luck to you ,🙏
You both always have great videos and information thank you!!
Speak up and check your volume. Don't hear your guys. Check before placeing video on the phone.
Not a popular suggestions for Americans - but you can always look to lose weight. One pound on the body puts 4 pounds of strain on each knee...

Do you ever talk about DIET,the root cause of inflamation??
Thanks. Recently discovered that I have stage 4 arthritis in my left knee, so this really will really help.
How do you think you developed the condition?
Your videos helped me through my planter fasciitis a few years ago (along with seeing a podiatrist). I have just been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my knees. I have been doing the exercises my physical therapist gave me. But I know I come here and get even more exercises to strengthen my legs. Thank you so much for posting these videos.
SOUND…..cannot hear…….I’m out!!
I can’t even hear the video, so I quit watching!👎
check your audio level guys when producing these videos - yours are way way too low - I can barely hear you
Thank you for all the videos with all your free advise you are giving to everyone, which are very informative. You were recommended to me by my PT. Keep up the good work! ☺️👍

They are great! I got one on Amazon and then got one for my sister and my aunt too!
CAN'T hear a word you are saying. .😭
You need to turn your mic up. I can barely hear you.
there is a fourth, anti-inflammatory diet.
These guys are they comedians or real doctors
Had a tough time hearing this. Had my volume at max.
Bone on bone needs replace nothing else will work, all bandaids and snake oil. Just had my knee replaced, done.
That has been proven not to be true because people can do better if they eat well and are exercising and cetera. They will many times not feel pain whereas somebody with much more cartilage has more pain. There was a study out of Stanford two years ago and I just had finished here listening to some of it but that is kind of an a common thing where they see people who are doing better when they have less cartilage than someone in more pain who has more cartilage.
awesome I am going to try that!!!! thanks!!
I have a knee pain due to a long Run on mountains. Doctors told me that your knee bones are rubbing on each other. Its been six months and i don't know how long it gonna take. Can you please help by telling what it could be exactly and how its gonna recover fast?
Thank you for your time :)
appreciated
My Name is Tiffany I have a Bone Knee very Pian
I'm 14 and I have pronated feet, my left knee always hurts so badly. I have grinding "bone on bone" pain in it. Could I have arthritis even though I'm a teenager?
physicaltherapyvideo Do you have any idea of what my condition could be? The grinding pain is on the inner side of my knee and its worse with walking and movement. My pediatrician said she thinks there's cartilage damage since my legs tend to bend inwards and that's why I feel grinding. I've had this issue since 5th grade and no one can figure it out
Where can I buy the peddling device?
The audio left and right is reversed !
Thank you guys. I am making a commitment to do these excersises.
I had one knee replacement and need the other one done. Why is there a ton of muscle above my knee area ( thigh) on the replacement knee, and nonexistent on the other thigh? Just curious
Voice is not loud and clear plz get it clear
i ride a real bike it helps alot
Great advice, great humour thanks
Well, ya hit the nail on the head. I'll try these. My knees just started giving me trouble. Right has a bad case if OA. 😊
