OMG, have you been reading my diary??!! I have that exact bad habit, and have even tried to break out of it by reaching for notes that are outside of my habitual runs, but you've taken it further by explaining how to be even more deliberate about expanding the breadth of where we naturally would go. good idea. string skipping, ascending on one string, descending on the next, etc. Just that x5 positions yields enough ideas to keep me busy for awhile. Even if you only like the sound of 1/10 of them yields several sequences that you can inject into your voabulary. That's all I'm ever looking for, just a few fresh ideas. It's like learning the "word of the day". You won't, like, talk like, the same like way like all the time, like, know what I like mean?
Very cool. Right on. I'm forcing myself to play simple lines like the theme from Top Gun or the solo for We're Not Gonna Take it, things that are very melodic and try to soak in the musicality of it so I play from a place of music not from technique.

I try to think of intervals and not what’s easier for my fingers. Mix it up, find a way to get there if you like that sound.

I get it! Watch all the videos filmed in the first 11 years of the channel for that type of video. There are about 800 total. I had to make a change after those 11 years because my Analytics clearly showed that most viewers needed more of what I’m doing now!
@@Wallimann I consume big plates of your content, have done for ages, and it is truly awesome 👌 (I've played guitar over 30 years and you still deliver "new" regularly)
But the break into parts gives me indigestion (I've just eaten BTW). If I have time, I'll binge the lot in one go but sometimes I can't do this hence my comment.
