Great video James. We put 30 to 40 kg N/ha on herbal leys after arable silage is removed if grass is looking thin on poorer ground, it becomes a herbal/thistle paradise otherwise!
Cool video James am looking forward to seeing how your herbal let turns out and your crop silage am a 9 today went to Balmoral show really enjoyed it 👍
Thank you James, I know one farm who has a Moore drill (to be honest I've got no experience with minimal till just plough and one pass tillage) he tried it to do exactly what you're doing but it was a disaster from the word go, it was the third year he'd gotten the results he'd wanted but it was too late due to his crop rotation every third year, he'd probably should have used his 2'5 old Massey drill that's been on his farm since new !!!!😳 I'm a 6 since Friday, still have having problems with crazy neighbours about the condition I've got childhood.
Thanks Calum, yeh it’s a bit of a risk trying it this way. The Moore drill would have tighter rows than my claydon which would mean it could create some competition. I’m not sure I would have given it a go if I was on tighter row spacings. I’ll have to do an update because so far so good 🤞
The very best of luck with the red clover James, I believe it is great feed for weanlings and young stock. I'm about a 6 today I'm afraid but hopefully things will improve. Staying positive. Shame about the bull James.
Thanks Gerry! Sorry to hear your only a 6, hoping things get better for you this week! 🤞 that high quality feed is my Dolan for it long term, help us reduce and potentially remove supplementation (especially in heifers)
Could you put a stocks seeder box on the back of the Claydon and in effect broadcast the seed behind what you've sown with the drill? Or maybe use the combi drill and do the same thing there if you want a more level finish
In theory you could but in practice I’m not so sure it would leave it leave and fine enough for small seeds to grow. The combi drill will leave a nice mowing surface, however I do thing there is potentially for a Harrow or even rolls with shatter boards and a seeder to do the same job.
Great Video James....am looking forward to seeing the results of your planting.....you made it sound exciting!!!!! Good for you 👍👍👍👍 Sad to hear about Hornblower I am an 8 of 10.😃😃
Well, so far so good 🤞 but I havnt spread a huge amount yet this year as we have quite a bit of CF left. Spread a good chunk of origin yesterday though so we will see. The CF is definitely a superior product though, more uniform and less dusty. Apparently origin doesn’t store well over winter either. 🙈
Have you ever looked into/used Lucerne (Alfalfa)? I wanted to give it a go myself years ago, but I lost the battle (with my business partner). Thanks for the video(s) Yours Chris.
Our herbal ley mixes do have a little bit in and we have a neighbour that grows it on some lighter land but on our heavy soils it probably wouldn’t do well. The neighbours crop always seems to produce a lot of good forage though. 👍
Hey mark, sorry for the slow reply. I hope that things have picked up for you by now but if you ever need a chat let me know. Might help You by getting things off your chest. 👍

That’s a good idea rob, it would just give it a kick up the backside! I do have a bit of spare N in the shed so I’ll give it a go. 👍
An update at the end of these type videos as to how it turned out would be a great help , otherwise we don't know if we should try it or not . Thanks

Thanks Paul, it’s the same mixture as we have used before, just established differently, looks to be coming up okay 👍 I’ll have to do an update. 👍
Adios, Hornblower, you had a good run. 8/10
He sure did! He’s one for the history books! 👍
Nice One James Thanks again
Thanks Darran. 👍

How did the perform in the end??

Thanks Keith, I’m excited to see how it goes, the weather have been perfect for it so far. 🤞
@@baldysfarm Check out UA-cam Channel 'Young Farming Legends' Id appreciate a shout out in your next video 👍👍👍👍
you had mentioned earlier that you might consider a Stabilizer bull
How did your Origin AN spread this year? Ours was shocking, stripes galore!

what breed of bull do you think you will replace Horn Blower with
Going to look at a stabiliser bull to help us breed our own replacements! Actually going on a day trip tomorrow to find one. 🤞
Will u bale the whole crop with the red clover.
Yeh that’s the plan, use it as a nurse crop and hopefully allow us to get an extra cut off it all. 👍
Honestly it’s been about a 3/4 for me this week. Putting out more metaphorical fires than anything else this week. Hopefully next week be better
