love the buildings. wish i had a few 2 floor barns on my yard but they were all knocked down in the 50s/60s😪. still got a few single floor barns though.
Just came across your channel by pure chance as a recommended video, 1st time in a while UA-cam has given me a genuinely interesting channel! Nice vids and farm, well done. Hope to enjoy many videos to come. Maybe a nice machinery tour 😉
Thanks Brian, really glad your enjoying the channel and my videos. A machinery tour seems to be a very popular choice so I’ll make sure I get one sorted! 🚜👍
Hi James, thanks for your sharing. I would like to ask you a question regarding the feed trough. How you put the feed inside? Directly with the mixer wagon? And second, I saw some of these that haven’t the roof on top: what happens and how you manage if it rains? Ciao and thank you from Italy. Cheers, Alberto
Hello I am new to your You Tube channel I noticed the barn is the bull family tree was listed on the wall and I think in is the family tree of a International Famous Guernsey bull, you might want to check with the Guernsey Cattle Association. Butter names where both used for Guernsey and Jersey bulls in the early 1900’s to mid 1900’s. At one time both Guernsey and Jersey bloodlines from the UK where world famous and where in a very high demand and international marketed. At one time hand made on the farm made butter was a very high luxury item and very high priced because the butter quality was excellent. Regards Hope
Hey Hope, Thanks for your comment. Logically that makes a lot of sense and I see where your coming from however after years of looking I coincidentally came across an article about the bull. Turned out to be a top British Friesian bull, I have spoken about it more, and posted the article on this weeks video! If you have time, take a look. 👍
Your farm looks great. I love the old farm buildings, but they aren’t suitable for modern farming, so lots have disappeared. I’m glad yours are still well kept. It all looks super efficient and well run, but hard work! Happy new year to you and your family 👍
Thanks Michael, the old building are great and I always think it’s a shame they are in the middle of the yard as we arnt really able to do much with them. They would be beautiful houses or something. As part of our stewardship scheme we have to keep them up to a good standard which is nice. Happy new year to you!
You have just stumbled in to my feed !great video now subscribed ,love the board it is showing the family tree of a bull ,including milk yields of cow ancesters ,I am sure that the relavent breed society would be very excited about it ,guess it will be Shorthorn ,Brittish Fresian or Ayreshire
Thanks John, really appreciate the subscribe. Amazing thank you! I see now how it works. I’ll have to do a bit of digging into the bull and see if I can work out what breed it is and get onto the breed society. 👍 really good of you to let me know. All the best.
Hi Wayne, thanks for watching. I havnt heard of that specific brand but I have seem similar things on other videos, definitely something work looking at for future cattle sheds! 👍
U should try some saler cows. No matter how exteme of a Charolais bull they get they usually calf unassisted. We cannot put a hard enough calving bull on them never any trouble
Hi Joseph, a few have suggested salers to me. I’m thinking to trying a few stabilisers this spring however should I not get on too well, I think salers would be my next bet.
@@baldysfarm I think you’ll get on grand with the stabilisers. The calves should be easier finished and similar quality to the calves of Britishblue/fresian
Just got recommended your channel, interesting video, look foreword to more, lovely looking farmyard , could you do a machinery tour video too, would be interesting to know what machines you use for the tillage enterprise as well as tractors, best of luck in the future, new subscriber/ farmer from Ireland
Your wood stack is really tidy I just dump mine in spud boxes !! Interesting old Ford's !! Lookout there will be people out there asking ( will you sale those ) I've already chased that lot out already especially the one I call him the "Hoover" interesting video thank you, Happy New year 🍻👍
We do have a pile for the wood that is chopped but not stacked too! The fords are classics. We have a Fordson Dexta which has been on farm since new and is still used on the scraper and the 4600 is not the log splitter tractor. However it used to be the main tractor and carried out all the spraying, fertilising, baling and carting at one point in time! 👍
Popped up on my feed! Brilliant stuff! Love the combination between beef and arable. Out of interest, how big is the herd and is it just you and your dad who work on the farm? Definitely subscribed 👍
Hi Matthew, I’m glad your enjoying the videos 👍 We have around 140 sucklers although I’m hoping to increase them over time. It is just me and my dad on the farm yes and Mum does all the office work.
@@baldysfarm good man! Need more people like you to take up UA-cam farming to show people how this works! Would you say you prefer the cattle side to the arable side?
@@matthewsandy3218 Thanks Matthew, that's really why I wanted to start doing it. Both dad and I prefer the cattle, although I do find the arable side very interesting too.
Hi Stephen, our current cows are British Blue cross British Frisian however we are about to bring stabilisers into the herd. We don’t currently breed our own replacements and have lost our current supply causing us to rethink our breeding and the stabilisers seem like a good fit for us 👍 would love to visit Illinois one day and see how you guys do things!
Yes your right, I’ll get him on them in the new year. Sometimes he isn’t around but he has really taken to the videos so I’m sure he would be keen to do more.
We are Leicestershire, west of Leicester. Not too far from Market Bosworth (battle of Bosworth if your into your history) or Mallory park if you like your bike racing. 👍
Hi Keith, thank you for the subscribe. We are a suckler beef and arable farm in Leicestershire, not too far from Mallory Park if your into your motorbike racing.
@@baldysfarm Thanks for the reply I look forward to exploring your channel and keeping up with your channel. Really enjoyed the first video I watched 👍
To be fair James, they keep incredibly well in the outside stacks. It’s worse if we have a very wet winter but generally the Mchale bales are so solid the rain doesn’t get into them. 🚜
Awesome Jack thank you. Really appreciate that. I’ve had another look at it makes a lot more sense now. Found out a bit more about it too and will explain in this weeks video. 👍
Just started going through older videos, never realised your farming 450 acres, I’m cattle mad, loved working with them years ago.

Really love all the buildings, and how they’re so close together and near the house. Courtyards are 🤌🏼 and we just don’t have them here

Definitely keen to watch a video on your stewardship scheme, I am just about to do a new one so would be interested to see what you’ve gone for.
I’ll get one sorted out for you. I might do it in a couple of weeks when I’m out hedge cutting or fencing 🚜
Great video around the farm ,love the ford 4600, classic 🐄🐄🚜👍

lbs is how much milk for 1 lactation 3 .8 % is average fat in milk over 1 year
when it rains it must ruin your bales no ?
To be fair James, they keep incredibly well in the outside stacks. It’s worse if we have a very wet winter but generally the Mchale bales are so solid the rain doesn’t get into them. 🚜
Had to abandon listening because I couldn’t hear due to wind noise. I’ll watch the next one!! Hopefully the wind won’t be blowing. 💠🎢🫓
Really sorry about this Chris, I did apologise at the end of the video. Looking into ways of mitigating it for future videos. 👍
How about a machinery tour
Seems a popular request Peter! I’ll get one sorted in the next couple of weeks.👍🚜
Dam did pounds off milk 3.8. Is how much % is fat in milk lbs is pounds. 1st dam did 6 lactations

Very hard to understand with wind interference.
Yeh sorry David, going to try and improve this for future videos. Thanks for watching.
i like your video but its too shake and we like to see your farm not your face in the video thanks
Thanks for the advice. I keep trying to improve so any criticism is welcome! 👍
