    I have always said that I would like to replace the mostly inaudible pedestrian warning sound on my Bolt with the William Tell Overture, and now I know how. Thank you!

    Thanks Ben, entertaining and useful info as usual. I didn’t know about the Adafruit sound board. Those drive by sound teasers at the end of the video are hilarious. And the sounds might actually be useful in the car park to warn the pedestrians as those little cars are near silent at low speeds.

      I actually Moo'd the other day at a pedestrian standing in the middle of the road at a camp-ground. He was pretty oblivious.
      Ironically, there's gas cars nowadays that are pretty darn quiet too!

    My 2010 does not have any pedestrian warning system and I was just talking about something like this a wee while ago. Fabulous post! Thank you!

      Pedestrian warning system? What's wrong with the actual car horn ? Is yours broken?😆

    This video is "milking" it a bit, don't you think? You should MOO-netize it and enjoy the cream! Oops-a-Daisy, my cow jokes are a total hoof!

    thank you for making this video, whats the loudest speaker i can use in terms of all the specs as im not sure what ohm, Watt etc to reach something as loud as a police siren for my button box?

    Can you use the existing pedestrian audio alert system to produce your customized sound? I hear your vehicle has both sounds together.

    • @BenjaminNelsonX
      @BenjaminNelsonX  2 роки тому +1

      Most of the time I've used the custom horn so far has actually been with the vehicle stopped at a traffic light or stopped in a parking lot. In either case, the UFO pedestrian warning sound isn't playing.
      I don't really have any urge to mess with the low speed warning sound. Nice and simple just to add the sound card and speaker.

    Hey I’m a little confuse about the wiring for the 3.5mm jack. I have a different amp because the one in the description is no longer for sale. The one I have has a positive and negative wires for each speaker channel. I tried wiring it together and it is super quiet. I wired the positive and negative to each of their respective channels. The amp I have is a boss ce102.

    Is it not possible to use the built in horn of the vehicle for custom audio? Which I guess leads into my other interests of customizing audio files of various parts of the car (entry sound, seat buckle sound, warnings, startup/shutdown sounds etc.); which apparently require reverse engineering? Do you know anything about this? Is it possible? Would love a response, solid video :)

    Sounds like the moos from the cow level in diablo II. That sound board is pretty expensive now at $35, and it just rotates through the various clips without the ability to select?

    • @BenjaminNelsonX
      @BenjaminNelsonX  11 місяців тому

      Yep! The sound effects are from the Cow Level! Except for one of them. One of the audio files is just me saying "Moo" into the microphone on my computer. It blends in really well, and it's hard to tell which one is mine.
      As for the sound board, I used it because it was something that I already had. It can be set up to play sequentially, random, continuous, etc. It can also be set up with multiple inputs (buttons, typically) to choose the individual sounds, but I only wanted one button in the car, not multiple.
      There are other sound board out there which can work nearly as well for a similar project.
      Even if a person doesn't use the exact same components, I hope the video shows the general idea so that anyone can build something similar for their car other other custom audio project.

    Any suggestion on how to set up one of the triggers to play the files at timed intervals? I am thinking of using this car shows where I won't be sitting in the vehicle to keep pushing a button.

    • @BenjaminNelsonX
      @BenjaminNelsonX  9 місяців тому

      Hmm. I guess that based on my skill set, I’d use an arduino to trigger the sound board and have it programmed with a series of delays between activations.
      I’m sure there’s lots of different ways it could be done.

    • @BenjaminNelsonX
      @BenjaminNelsonX  Рік тому

      It was really a pretty straight-forward project. Most of the parts were just mail-order. The project could be done in an afternoon.

    Can you just use a micro USB Cable for those cigarette lighter plugs from the gas station? How much power does this soundboard need?

    • @BenjaminNelsonX
      @BenjaminNelsonX  Рік тому

      The soundboard itself is similar to an Arduino or other small microcontroller. It doesn't take much power at all. It can easily be run from a small USB cigarette lighter adapter. This project has several components that need to be powered, so it was easiest to tie them together.

    would there be a way you could explain how you wired up your speakers? i cant seem to figure out which pin to use ( I should specify that I mean the green and black wires not the actually loud horn)

      The amplifier has a very simple diagram with it showing how to connect the sound.

    Can you make a horn that sounds like tires squalling to a stop ?

    • @BenjaminNelsonX
      @BenjaminNelsonX  Місяць тому

      You certainly could. Just load up a different MP3 file!
      Keep in mind that for this project, I'm actually using a separate button, NOT the horn button, for the sound effects.
      This keeps the original horn button ready for emergencies for when you really need it!

    Is it possible to make it so that select what sound to play instead of random?

    • @BenjaminNelsonX
      @BenjaminNelsonX  2 роки тому

      It can be made to loop, only play while holding down the button, play one then the next then the next.
      I'm only using ONE button to do this. You can simply add more buttons to choose which found effect you want to play.

    Thanks for not using the car horn button. Multi-toned horns and horns with sound effects are illegal in a number of countries.
    For example, repurposing the car horn button in Britain would cause the vehicle to fail the annual MOT inspection, and you can be fined and have penalty points added to your license for using nonstandard (or what can be deemed to be 'novelty') sounds for the 'clear and efficient warning device', according to our legislation.
    Great project as an unofficial and polite signal though!

    • @BenjaminNelsonX
      @BenjaminNelsonX  Рік тому

      Absolutely! We never want to change any of the standard safety features on a car!
      In an emergency, a person's natural reaction is to hit the center of the wheel horn button. And we WANT that emergency warning to work!
