Just a heads up for anyone wanting to do this for real. Wire nuts are not a reliable option to use in an automotive application. The constant vibrations have been known to make the wire nuts come loose and shorts caused by that have caused cars to catch on fire. Soldering is the recommended option.
Good to know. Thanks for saying that in a useful, helpful way. A few other comments about the wire nuts weren't helpful as to WHY it wasn't the best option.
I really do appreciate it. Thanks!
you could also use a crimp connecter and shrink wrap them if you don't want to but a soldering kit.
Also, to run the wires through the firewall, if the existing hole doesn’t have a grommet, or you have to drill a new hole, make sure to install one to prevent the wires chafing and causing a short.
@@JustaShrimp372Thanks!
Sure glad you said something and here I was going to fuck up the whole thing using wire nuts gosh you think that you just give him credit for coming up some creative that you can come up with now you got to criticize the wire nuts get the fuck out of here
The literal horn aka "honk" is my favorite. If someone honked at me with that sound, I would die laughing.
Can I download do u know da way cuz they shouldn’t be jaywalking
Imagine you held it down and it just makes the word longer, just listening to someone go “HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONK”
@@melissae9097 I’d custom make it so my horn is me screaming the word HONK. Hence the caps 🙂
More like HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONK

Loving the Red Tee shirt at the beginning bob, great project though, ideas like this are just fantastic.
+colinfurze thanks Colin!! Love that shirt !
This is what I would put in mine if I had a car:
1. "The light is green"
2. "How dare you?"
3. "Not cool dude"
4. happy music
5. *police siren* "JK I got you man lol"
Until a undercover gets you for impersonating lmao
Edgar H252 lol 😆
LOL
Dude that’s the same as my picks
Find Ethel Merman recordings of those words, and you'll be all set
I wish you had footage of you using that on the road
YES!!!!
THE REactions would be funny.
Please do it, Bob!
yeh bob you do it for us!!!
Christiane Cachero-Xiao depending on where he lives he can get in trouble for using that on the road. It's a different story if his car is parked.
I could only imagine a car flying down the road saying "I'm Bob and I like to make stuff."
Joe Cooley And the sound is distorted from the speed and distance it is from you. Lmao
Gracias lo miraré
.
Actually it's, "I'm Bob AT I like to make stuff". Yeah, I know. Mind blown. lol
Lmao ikr
Bob, I love the genuine excitement you showed on this one. Probably the most fun I've seen you have on a video (sans pudding gun). Great stuff!
I’m gonna make my car “Bruh” at people
That's exactly why I came here
Jeremy K ^
*BRUHHHHHHHHHHHH*

The precise reason I’m here too
This is the first time I've seen bob laugh on camera :) , no hard feelings i just think u should do it more often
yeah indeed
Thanks guys for 100+ likes 😊😊
aayush mishra 🌲🌲🌲🌴🌴🌴🌴🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🤛🏻
True :)
Hmm hmm agreed
This is amazing, imagine just waiting at an intersection or something and you just hear this honk, like a super loud monotone voice saying "honk." xDxDxD
Stephanie Yu ikr!
When the car behind you starts moaning...
The car behind rear ends me, so I press the "Harder daddy" button.

you have one of the most non disturbing sponsor sponsorspots, hope others learn from that :)
I love this project! One of my favorite things about it is that it is not permanent. I may try it and I definitely didn't want to damage anything in my car by making it permanent. Keep up the great work, Bob! i am looking forward to what you come up with next.
I LOVE this new ad layout. Its very subtle and doesn't affect the experience in a negative way at all. I love it and very very good job Bob. Keep up the good work.
FYI, you can also wire power to an ACC connection in your fuse box, so that it's hardwired, but only works when the ignition is set to ACC or ON.
Thanks!
Same as having it connected to a cigarette lighter that’s only powered in ACC or is on but doesn’t hog my power source/cigarette lighter socket.
Definitely need to see this in action on the road. Not sure how you kept a straight face while recording the audio....."Honk"....dead straight face!
That is an awesome upgrade. Love the ending. It was great to see you again at the Atlanta Maker Faire.

In case you didn't already hear about it, Prusa announced a multi-material mod launching soon (preorder available now, but in beta until the end of November). Basically allows multiple filaments, preferably the same temperature requirements. Modelling might be a bit tricky though - sounds like you need to model up what you want each color to fill as a separate model so the slicer postscript can figure out which extruder motor to run for each area on each layer.
K.I.T.T.'s sound is perfect for that, especially if you put the leds on your front bumper!
This is gonna be my sound list:

What about Giggity-Giggity, gig-uhh-dee!???
Please do a vid using it on the street! This is very good, Awesome content, Bob!
I was really hoping for that!
The last time Bob made a video while driving the internet lost it's mind on him. But, I'm sure he will do another one anyway. LOL!!
I hope so too!!
Middle of the freeway: "Hey I'm Bob and I like to make stuff."
I liked the PIP for the sponsor message! Gives the viewer something interesting to watch while hearing about the various companies who help support your awesome channel
6:20 Bob geeks out
I definitely did. :)
***** Thanks!!
+Hardcore Games I appreciate that. Another one.
Chris Teler Don't ever play yourself
love it!
When I had my electronics business we used to call Pyle stuff Pyle-O-Crap!
So if this project stops working out of the blue, look at that piece first as the culprit.
keep up the great work Bob!
Cool little board. I've been enjoying the electronics projects you've been doing lately.
Thanks man!
A little advice: if you order some of your parts from Amazon in another country than the ones referred with the links (ie USA), make sure your waterproof loud speaker is actually a simple speaker, not a siren… I did this mistake and it took me a while to figure that my sound board and my amp were working just fine… Lesson learned! 😊
6:19 And here we can see a rare video of Bob actually... Smiling!
:P
I made this for my bug thanks to your video. Excellent, easy project. I found WAV files on boomblasters. They also have premade programmable car horns for anyone who doesn't want to make one.
Train Horn - The best one :D
Train horn through a microphone into another speaker, that could be heard from about 3 miles away!
BMAN488877 You'll go to jail for that
you will need a compressor for that one, without extra air it would sound like if its played from a phone :D
Однозначно!
Mark Rober did it
I got mine to work but it’s super quite. I’m using the second amp you show, with same speaker. 2nd has a remote wire as well which seems to work if I just loop it in with the positive. Why’s it so quite?
Hey! Make sure you have your amp set to High input and not Low input. You can check this by looking at the power slider on the amp. Make sure the slider is set to H and not L. I personally found that it was still too quite even after setting the amp to high, so I put in a 50-watt speaker instead. Worked like a charm and was plenty loud
Benito Guapo I did end up getting it to work! It was loose connections to the
Soundboard that made it really quite. A bit disappointed in sound quality of the speaker but for the price, it makes sense. Just posted my build on my channel. Used it to prank my wife!
@@DudeDad Saw the video, it's awesome! I love the rotary switch you added on!
Haha, this is great... it's nice to have a car you can customize :) in my youth I installed a windshield water pump to my back bumper, with a nice toggle switch on the dash, so I could spray the cars behind me. This did result in my getting punched in the face once... but it was still worth it. 🤓 👍🏼
Hey man, if they're too close....
Lmaoooo 😂🤣
Thank you. Im wondering if a radial dial, say 1-8 would also work instead of multiple buttons. -cool project. Wait, you could use the radial dial, then hook it to your actual horn. So youd select then simply honk your horn. Great info bro. Gonna do it.
That is a great idea, but I don't have a clue how you would make it work with the board.
@@tandr3wgetting ready to do it, ill report back if it works. thanks again
One board pin to one pin on the selector dial... depending on the dial switch of course.
Mark sent me. I like to make stuff, too. Let's do this!
Nice! Glad to have you!
Cool thanks Bob! My dad used to have a 50-60s limo that played music like that. I listen to the Podcasts more than I watch the shows, so you look different 'cause I'm always picturing Eric from that 70's show when listening.
Hahaha, I could see why you think I'd look like that :)
I'm gonna do this, but add the laser, fart, and dog bark from Bob's Burgers.
Hahaha, yes!!
/watch?v=XurHbprDrVs
I was expecting that one xD
CheffBryan I'm going to make it say move beep hole
Young Eclipse same
CheffBryan hahaha I'm gonna have to do that too
I gotta say, I actually really appreciate the way you do product sponsors Bob.
Thanks Adam! I really appreciate that.
WAV #1 will be Marc Summers (former host of my fave show) saying On Your Mark, Get Set, GO! I'll play it, then step on the go pedal.
Bob, you're a dork and that's a good thing. Lol. This is great, there is literally no limit on what you can put on there for sounds, and it's easily re-programmable.
Super cool fun project Bob. Any idea how much you spent on making this?
Thanks! Not sure off hand, but the parts list is in the description. It'd be simple to add up.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
I've always thought a second horn option for a pleasant "Thank you" communication on the roads was a necessary for me. I find in general the horns from the factory imply "HEY! I'm here!" type vibe. But wht about those situations that require a less agressive communication? I LOVE THIS! THANK YOU!
Got so many ideas what I´ll ´teach´ my car to say... :-D
Yeah, "go away!", "drive faster grandma!"
mlex1999 im gonna make my car have a orgasm
You mean a cargasm?
/watch?v=XurHbprDrVs
I think that one is a MUST HAVE
Had one today, the light turned green, i started going, moron behind me honks... It was green for less than half a second. I nearly got out of my car to shove my foot up his ass!
It's the same morons that put their turning blinker on WHILE turning at the last possible second (usually way too late) too!
Just wanted to thank you for doing such a great video in such a kind and easy to understand way. could you explain the board connections a bit more for those of us who are soldering challenged? Again thanks for making a fantastic idea so easy to understand and do.
Cantina Band made me #LOL soooooo much. Big /salute from Star Wars fan ;-)
MTFBWY!
Thank you for sharing. You saved me from installing a metal bar on the roof of my 05 Honda Accord to hold five air horns. Can you imagine?..... And I was also thinking about adding a pair of Cibie rally type lights on the bar. If they don't see, then they should hear.😂😂😂
So you saved me from messing up the appearance of the Honda. Though I'm still figuring out where to put the Cibie lights.
so the 1st mono amp you listed is unavailable and the second one is wired differently, can you give us an idea how they wire in to the system?
The schematics are included with the pictures of the amp on the amazon page. It’s a little less simple than Bob’s amp, but it shouldn’t be too hard to wire up.
@@JosephQPublic I got the alternative have it all hooked up no sound.
I've wanted to do this for years, and this jut gave me the final motivation. Thank you Bob!
Please just soldier the wires!Don't use the "wire nuts" it is hurting the small electrician in me.
The nuts can easily get loose. especially if they are moving around.
solder in a high vibrantion application is not the best option! and hand soldering is NEVER good enough for autos!! dont know about wire nuts though
Crimp & Seal & Solder
***** as an electrical engineer (yet to graduate) ive learned that solder in high vibrantion applications can crack and break. That is why when you take ANY vital car electronical part, such as the airbag inflator, you see that some components are mechanically connected and not soldered on.
Now that ive given you why I know solder is worst, tell me from your view how it is the best. I genuinely like to know.
Hi. Thanks for the advice. What would be the best alternative to soldering in that case?
SMH. Wire nuts in auto application should be your last choice. Soldering only withayne some electrical tape second to last option (unless your really good a soldering and have some magical means of preventing a short). Mechanical crimp and heat shrink is the second best option. Solider mechanical crimp and heat shrink is the best way to insure against power loss due to corrosion.
Hi Bob,
First off, I love your videos, well produced, interesting and educational, keep it up!
Secondly, a quick tip on making equally spaced features in CAD. It looked like you placed individual constraints on each hole, which takes time. Instead, you could place one hole and then use a pattern (rectangular in this case) to place the rest. It's simpler and quicker, especially when you have to place many features. There's also circular patterns that are great for when you need to make, for example, a few screw holes in a motor hold-down plate, since you can rotate the feature around the axle hole.
Of course, you may have found out about this already, seeing as this video is 8 months old at this point, but if you haven't I thought I'd share it with you :)
I want to see the reaction video of people hearing this horn on the road.
This is the third project I've used this video to help me through, a prop, a TMNT party wagon, and now a 2016 Ecto-1.
Thanks Bob! Really appreciate your straightforward guidance. I wonder if there were any technology changes you'd make if you redid this video today?
That's awesome!! I'm so glad it was helpful! As far as changes, probably nothing technically different, but I would probably improve the interface. Cooler buttons in a more hidden panel, maybe some labels, LEDs etc
Going to end up making a Navi horn and annoy people with "HEY, LISTEN!" thanks bob.
You're the best, thank you for actually making things that aren't pointless explosions
I’m going to get one that just says , “GET OFF YOUR PHONE AND DRIVE DAMN IT!”
The way you incorporate sponsors into the video is perfect.
Should’ve done the horn from the General Lee in “Dukes of Hazard”
Bob you are such a big kid and love seeing you have so much fun doing this stuff. Would love to see peoples reaction on the road hearing "I am Bob and I like to make stuff". lol
+Ron Waller thanks!
+I Like To Make Stuff I like your new format for the sponsor spot, doing it like a PiP works much better as I came here to see *insert title* and whilst you were talking about Casper I was able to continue seeing you do *insert title* but hear what you had to say about your sponsor. And tucking in the sponsor spot at moments like that where in the video you're doing something tedious or repetitive is good.
With the older way talking about your sponsor and interrupting the project I would've more than likely skipped it.
Though I would think that you can afford to slightly bump up the size of the sponsor PiP. It could be a wee bit bigger without being too much in your face (no pun intended).
I saw a Casper commercial on German TV last week. Also really nice work, I always enjoy watching your projects!
the Knight Rider one is the best :-D
This is awesome! I've wanted to make something like this, and this is far and away easier and cheaper than I thought it would be. Thanks!
make it sound like a screaming man
Or, the screaming goat XD
sound like harambe
i miss him so much :(
this video deserves more recognition
You could say it's "Horney" haha get it ... Ok I'll leave now
no, I think you should leaf.
it's all ogre now
@Rebel Ghost same
*has a dead inside face then starts screaming because I have 1%*
Add a shrill scream and a vicious growl. The reactions would be priceless.
Hi I'm Bob at I Like To Make Stuff should deff be an option.
Oh, it is :)
I Like To Make Stuff is the speaker waterproof because I live in a very wet area and the last thing I want is a short circuit
Supertuts71 Yes, this is an indoor/outdoor speaker.
Actually got one of those casper mattresses you've spoken so much about, gotta say I love it. One of the best mattresses I've slept on :)
Awesome to hear! They really are great!
instead of the knight rider theme, you should have used the "whoosh whoosh" sound from the front led of the KIT car :D
Oh, I've got that on there too :)
awesome! next step is to install the front led itself ;)
Hey I am Bob and I enjoy watching you make stuff and incorporating for my needs
what sound did you use as a horn? i can't find it anywhere
Transformers, it's the sound they make transforming.
From the 80's cartoon specifically.
wich cartoon was it?
I so want to make a horn for my car now that says
"Hey I'm Mike and I like to GO WHEN THE LIGHTS GREEN!" those little sound boards are just what ive been looking for the past 30 years since I graduated ITT lol
man i like that truck.
what year is it.
1992
wow. its in good shape for a 92.
I Like To Make Stuff I have a 1991
Are there other amps you recommend? Looks like Amazon is sold out.
Bob,Whats the second horn song called at 6:22 ? thanks :P
Cantina band theme from Star Wars episode IV : A new hope
thanks! :)
Really important point you’re making about choosing the right cigarette lighter. On my Chevy, the cigarette lighter on the left is controlled by the ignition whereas the one on the right is always on which is nice if you want to charge your phone while the vehicle is off. The easiest way to test for this if you have a phone charger is to plug it in with your phone attached and see what happens with each cigarette lighter when you turn the ignition switch on or off.
who else noticed the Colin Furze T-shirt?
I saw a reel where their van “Yippeed” and I NEED it
If I make this I will make it sound like the t-rex from Jurassic park.LOL
Hi Bob!
I'm working on a similar project, using the same amp, PA speaker, and microcontroller. However, I'm having an issue where it just doesn't seem very loud, even with the amp at full power. It's nowhere near loud enough to hear from inside another vehicle.
What is that dance music?
The cantina music from Star Wars.
picked up all the parts except the amp is no longer in stock. any suggestions on another amp. I have a regular car amp for a system but it does not have a 1/8 input to plug the board into
I don´t think this is possible in germany :D
Possible, yes. Legal, probably not :D
Off Road Use/Show Use only.
The cops cant do a thing.
you can do it if you have a normal horn too i live in germany and i know a police officer
You just inspired me to do a " feel the power of the dark-side" horn along with " these are not the droids you're looking for" LOL
If I get bruhed on the highway I swear to god
Oh man! This episode got me laughing twice. The smile when first testing it and the ending XD Awesome job, Bob! Thanks for the tip!
Just take it to los santos customs
This is exactly what I have been looking for! I have an offroad rig named Ironhide and have been looking for some kind of sound bite pa system. I want to record Ironhide's lines from the Transformer's movies and play them back over the PA system. Thank you!
hey Bob, are you by any chance looking for a 40 year old son?
uKNOWuLIKE that as in Dukes of Hazard
An amazing project very very very well done! One thing I found because I will be putting this in my car is that the adafruit audio fx soundboard link you included doesn't have the headphone jack for audio out, just something to keep in mind
Nah, it's too complicated. Los Santos Customs does it faster and easier
San Andreas loop
SomeRandomDude YT lmao
As an automotive electrician, I would highly advise against using wire nuts in a car. They are prone to falling off as they vibrate. I have had 2 customers start small fires in their cars because wire nuts fell off.
hearing the Knight Rider theme at the end made me smile
😂 this is a great project using those Transformer and Star Wars audio. I can see someone trying this with audio from mecha based series like Super Robot Wars.
Dude this is a great video👍🏻 My stepdad will love this since he took out the horn from his 4x4 truck😂
Finally I came across a page "well yours" to finally make my our funny horns. There use to be a guy who would sell a package with chips that you would insert into the brain. But with this. This is way way better
Oh my... the little dance. I love this guy
Finally, a project I can use! ;-) I will be doing this one asap. thanks for sharing!
An 80 Series Cruiser, you've just gone up one notch in my belt, you're now at one notch.
Wow. Awesome vid. This is a perfect vid because it’s short, but covers everything and has tons on bonus tips. Thanks man.
I just did this today but I need to figure Out how to make it louder. I am mounting it on a humvee and the diesel drowns out that little amp and I need better speakers. I’m thinking some cheap boat type clamp speakers(like on a wakeboat) but I need to find something to push it more. Any ideas? Without making it a lot more complicated.
my boys and I talked about doing something just like this a couple years ago, but figured we'd need to use an arduino and program it ourselves. This board is definitely the way to go, and much smaller. We had figured we'd want to try to use a numeric keypad of sorts so we would have 10 buttons at the ready, and had thought of several cartoon characters or movie sayings we'd use, like homer simpson's DOOH!, road-runner: meep-meep, ren &stimpy: "You eediot!", R2-D2, and the obvious: Put Your Phone Down, or GO Already! and so on. Am Glad I saw this, would still like to make it like a black box under the dash and a remote key device, but probably do need a wire from each button.
