Does most of this (possible missions, possible certs that crossover to civilian world etc...) apply to CROs as well? If not could you do a similar episode on CROs?
I was in the Air Force as an Aircraft Loadmaster and I loved it. I was very physically active and trained/ran multiple marathons. There were no Coast Guard helicopter rescue swimmers until U.S Congress mandated in the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 1984 that the Coast Guard get this capability. This was a corrective action resulting from the 10 February 1983, the M/V MARINE ELECTRIC sinking. However the after action finding of the October 1980 cruise ship Prinsendam rescue was the first official recommendation. "b. Additional personnel training (enclosure 6). These guys do the most advanced airway interventions available and even do minor surgeries in the field if itvis necessary. They can be on a Sat phone with Drs following their instructions. I am an aviation ordnanceman in the US Navy and want to go PJ in the Air Force, what is the likelihood and who do I need to get in contact with? And what would be a good training program I can follow?
Is it too late to join PJs in your 30s if you can do all the exercises and are fit? Asking this question at the beginning of the vid and I know you can join till 39 but some people were saying this is not an older gig. If answered later in vid, will edit.
We’ve seen people in their 40s make it. These were people that had breaks in service, but whether you can make it in your 30s is up to you. Plenty do though. 🍑
“medics” in the traditional sense have always done trauma first and it evolved into something more than just emergency medicine. Treating chronic illnesses, sick call etc. A PJ’s skill set is equally or more multifaceted but without emergency medicine in your tool bag your far less mission effective. Not sure why anyone wouldn’t want to own that unless you factor in people that never wanted to be “medics” in the first place.
In regards to the space conversation at the end of the video, do you guys think AFSpec-War or PJ'S will have cross role or bigger play in the new Space Force branch? Or will Space Force make their own Special Operations and rescue specialists?
@@qbumf Yeah it is, at least for now. Back then though, we didn't know what direction Space Force was going to be. Sadly, it's all computer, satellite, and cyber focused with some engineering
Pj's are medics, own it. You can be a tactical medic, combat medic, elite medic, corpsman, etc.., no shame in it, normal military medics can't join spec ops and keep up, unless they are trained up like spec ops guys. There are civilian paramedics in certain cities, that rappel and do high mountain or hills patient extractions when hikers fall off cliffs, water rescues, similar to pj's. They are medics and proud of it. Military Veteran giving my soapbox speech.
It's a military thing. The PJs brothers who ARE medics are Army SF-18-D, who a far more broad scope of practice. Similarly, Navy Corpsmen don't like to called "medic" either. That title is used by Army medics, who are officially called "medic." Folks what their unique identity recognized. PJs are also shooters and technical rescue/extrication specialists.
