Suddenly, a rebel charges from out from the shadows straight towards you! Startled by her sudden appearance, you don't have time to whip out your weapon before she lobs something straight at you. ...it's... a dead rat. She threw a dead rat at you. ... (the recent Steam hardware survey says only 1-2% of all Steam Users have a VR headset)
That's because VR is still a gimmick. It's too expensive for what it offers and the hardware requirements for using it are still high. And for HL:A, it was designed for the Valve Index and its individual finger sensors. It was their killer app for those thinking if they should spend 1 thousand dollars on a VR headset.
@@BrunodeSouzaLino HL:A was designed with the Valve Index in mind, but it's also designed with considerations/special controls for other native PC VR kits. As someone who doesn't own a VR Headset, I do want to own one for Hotdogs, Horseshoes and Handgrenades. It's essentially a "gun museum" type of game, where you have a bunch of accurately modeled real-world guns to play around with. What makes it so compelling for me is I don't want to own any firearms, but would love to mess around with them, and the idea of doing so in VR sounds fun. An extra note is that the game can include all sorts of guns, even ones that are very rare or expensive, so more people can get a better appreciation for them that normal shooters don't provide (due to liberties in design or function).
This was the most wholesome relationship between a person and a rat I've ever seen, and the rat wasn't even alive. Truly an impressive, emotional story.
So I did something similar, though somewhat more forgiving. While at the distillery Russell mentions it's been a long time since he's had vodka, so I pick up a bottle and stored it, sacrificing an inventory slot for the rest of the game, to keep a bottle for Russell. The tractor beam into the vault was a heart breaking moment for me as I watched the bottle leave my inventory and I scrambled to try to grab it, only for it to break right in front of my face. Was absolutely devastated. Legit had to take a moment to go cry when that happened before returning to the game and finishing it. I call it the bottle for Russell challenge.
18:30 In case it wasn't mentioned, you can actually put on one of those small gas masks you find laying around to prevent Alyx from coughing. Likewise I think headcrabs won't stick to you if you're wearing a hardhat, though they'll knock if off your head.
btw, the part with jeff is easier if you just equip a mask. Yes, There's hats and masks you can wear. Masks stops you from coughing and hats give you a "free try" to not get munched by barnacles, cause they take your hat off first.

I played HL:A with a bucket in my offhand at almost all times, so I could keep extra grenades and stims on me at all times, using the gravity gloves caused the bucket to glitch and send everything flying, but it was worth it for how funny the constant ability to lob a bunch of grenades at anything in the map is
7:50 "Grab something that represents us"... I remembered using a coffee mug for the map marker, then quickly did the mental math, and was like oh no it's going to be the dead rat lol
you're absolutely right no controller or other peripheral will EVER be able to truly encompass experiencing being scared shitless and HAVING TO ACTUALLY REMEMBER HOW TO RELOAD A GUN, using a standard controller its like: press X to reload... that's one button. in VR you need to eject the empty clip, then PHYSICALLY reach out behind your back into the backpack to grab a new clip, then actually slide it in the right way, then physically load the gun and THEN you are ready to shoot... all the while you have like... 3 seconds to remember all those actions and to pull them off perfectly without anything going wrong whatsoever... what if you drop your clip? etc... and then you need to actually physically aim and be good at aiming... you actually need to line up your crosshair for it to shoot where you're seeing the crosshair... there is nothing else other than real life that can offer you this experience.
This won't help you now, of course, but during Jeff's section you can actually equip one of those respirator masks you find lying around everywhere and it will keep Alex from coughing from the spores, so you can have both hands free. Or, well, one hand free.
I did it too. I have a clip proving it, not uploaded, but I carried the rat along as well in one of my playthroughs. No else else knows, I think. Do not let my sacrifice be forgotten.

i remember playing half life alyx and i wore a traffic cone on my head for the entire game, i found it at the start, i did everything with that cone... poor guy probably got riddled with bullets along with me, benefit with the traffic cone is that it leaves your hands free (but blocks the upper part of your vision) i don't know what causes the urge for half life alyx players to grab objects and bring it all the way with them
Horizon Call of the Mountain has a similar moment with a Tallneck walking over you (it's a giant robot giraffe with a wifi router for a head). After playing the other 2 games in 3rd person and feeling nothing for their size, seeing one in 1st person VR really emphasised the scale of them.
I remember taking a chair and holding the legs outward with my gun through the spokes making a sort of makeshift shield which was amazing. it's truly sad that so many people wont experience this game
Okay, I had a quest 2 in 2021 now I have the quest 3s ( soon the three) and I have to say it’s honestly my favorite thing to do. It’s honestly the greatest experience I’ve ever had in the virtual landscape. Playing Skyrim inside of the world is unreal. Thanks to meta with their budget friendly, great headsets. The game is amazing truly, especially with source 2 and the physics interactions it brings, i remember vividly carrying a basket with a gnome and other random items across the entire game
Still my favorite vr game if you put a construction helmet on it prevents barnicals and head crabs. Also you can find respirators so you don't cough from spores.

Your editing is awsome and so is your animation, comedy, gameplay and pacing. I really think it's a matter of time before you hit 1M, and I doubt it will even take that long :)
i dont usually watch videos outside of who im subscribed to, but your videos are so well edited and the animation looks so nice, especially after watching the mixed media video, but this is my second video i watched and cant wait to watch more, you're awesome
I played HL:A with a bucket in my offhand at almost all times, so I could keep extra grenades and stims on me at all times, using the gravity gloves caused the bucket to glitch and send everything flying, but it was worth it for how funny the constant ability to lob a bunch of grenades at anything in the map is
Modern problems require modern solutions, lol.
Your gunhand is full of gun and your reload hand is full of rat. God damnit you had me in tears in this video! Fantastic!
Half life alyx vr but... the rat comes back to life-
Wow man, your storytelling, animation and editing is insanely good and keeps me watching all the way through. You'll go very far in youtube! Subbed!
7:50 "Grab something that represents us"... I remembered using a coffee mug for the map marker, then quickly did the mental math, and was like oh no it's going to be the dead rat lol
2:30 love the, "or the apple one, if your stupid."
Because it’s true
Holy, your entire personality, editing style and narrative abilities are god damn amazing, instant all notifications enabled fooooor you :D
you're absolutely right
no controller or other peripheral will EVER be able to truly encompass experiencing being scared shitless and HAVING TO ACTUALLY REMEMBER HOW TO RELOAD A GUN, using a standard controller its like: press X to reload... that's one button. in VR you need to eject the empty clip, then PHYSICALLY reach out behind your back into the backpack to grab a new clip, then actually slide it in the right way, then physically load the gun and THEN you are ready to shoot... all the while you have like...
Didn't expect to spend today watching camwing playthrough my favorite game franchise of all time with a dead rat, But I'm not complaining.
Good video
High production value
Nothing to complain about
Verdict: not enough subscribers
4:20 (nice lol) there's actually an addon on the workshop that replaces every green bottle in the game by a Cerveza Cristal
I don't like rewatching videos, but this one has been out for a month and I've watched it 6 times already. Nice job dude!!!!!!!!
This won't help you now, of course, but during Jeff's section you can actually equip one of those respirator masks you find lying around everywhere and it will keep Alex from coughing from the spores, so you can have both hands free. Or, well, one hand free.
Now this is how a game should be played
The Rat Man aperture labs warned us about.
I did it too. I have a clip proving it, not uploaded, but I carried the rat along as well in one of my playthroughs. No else else knows, I think. Do not let my sacrifice be forgotten.
Believe me or not I did this exact same thing, I carried the rat in the staircase all the way to the end, called him Gilbert 😂
The Cerveza Crystal jokes KILLED ME!!! Just over and over and over with PERFECT timing that was the most I've laughed for a long time
Russel: Grab something that represents us
Alyx: -Drops a dead rat on the spot-
Russel: . . . Ok if that's how you're going to treat me, that's just you. Good luck saving your dad Rat Woman
Everywhere I go, cerveza cristal haunts me
4 minutes and 20 seconds of explaining that vr is the superior way to play a vr game
Stumbled in from Shorts, subbed after 5 minutes because I know what top tier content looks like. Good luck man. You're small now, but you'll blow up I'm certain.
This video is very well produced, camwing. Very well done. Bravo.
the rat after capturing the G-Man and his employers: *reality breaking shakes*
i love how you healed the rat each time you needed to heal
Congrats, you did what Slimecicle could not.
Another perfect video. Always a delight when you upload.
How DARE you make me tear up for a (long) dead rat?
Dude ur animation style is so goood
6:00 that sounded so majestic
i remember playing half life alyx and i wore a traffic cone on my head for the entire game, i found it at the start, i did everything with that cone... poor guy probably got riddled with bullets along with me, benefit with the traffic cone is that it leaves your hands free (but blocks the upper part of your vision)
i don't know what causes the urge for half life alyx players to grab objects and bring it all the way with them
"Because you can."
Keeping it pg: carries around a dead rat. Adds up yep :D
Honestly the strider walking over me, the first time, was an amazing feeling
I loved that
Horizon Call of the Mountain has a similar moment with a Tallneck walking over you (it's a giant robot giraffe with a wifi router for a head).
After playing the other 2 games in 3rd person and feeling nothing for their size, seeing one in 1st person VR really emphasised the scale of them.
breaking news: camwing discovers rat quantum states, is awarded virtual Nobel Prize
I remember taking a chair and holding the legs outward with my gun through the spokes making a sort of makeshift shield which was amazing. it's truly sad that so many people wont experience this game
"Can you do this *Stretches rat*" Yes, yes I can. Along with welding that rat to a nuke. Welcome to Gmod!
My secret strat for Alyx was to always carry a desk drawer or milk crate around and load it up with extra grenades and healing items.
Played the game on release and cant express how much I loved this game
The universe is trying really hard to convince me to get a vr headset
Okay, I had a quest 2 in 2021 now I have the quest 3s ( soon the three) and I have to say it’s honestly my favorite thing to do. It’s honestly the greatest experience I’ve ever had in the virtual landscape. Playing Skyrim inside of the world is unreal. Thanks to meta with their budget friendly, great headsets. You legit get immersed literally 90 percent reality most of the times. Anyone never played it please get a vr. Also most of the experience is saying or thinking “that’s so cool” or “oh my fucking god that’s insane” I literally still get giddy playing it.
How do you get the game man, I’m on the store and I can’t find it
You made the Rat enter quantum limbo, may physics have mercy on us.
The game is amazing truly, especially with source 2 and the physics interactions it brings, i remember vividly carrying a basket with a gnome and other random items across the entire game
“You’re my friends now, we’re having soft tacos later.”
Im glad you were able to overcome the allegations and avoid the long arm of the law long enough to make a new video, great stuff keep it up!
I want the true friendship run take the gnome and the rat through the entire game
Still my favorite vr game if you put a construction helmet on it prevents barnicals and head crabs. Also you can find respirators so you don't cough from spores.
