And then the relativity theory comes into play - how can you tell apart a vision of perfect prediction that you chose not to follow and reality that you chose to go back from and change it? Yea this is a paradox because if your dad does not die and your hired you are not at the place That he dies at so it would hold no power over you because it would give warning to your past self not to do it and to not use your power
@@XxPugMasterxX22 not a paradox, because it simply doesn't happen anymore. literally nullified. how can something be paradoxical, if it never even happened? it becomes a split, and with that split, no change in the first timeline can cause anythng from the new timeline to shift, due to them no longer being interconnected by any form of fix-point that would have them reconnect if only for a short time.
I'd say that's a hell of a way to re enter the gaming scene. Seems they still haven't lost it after all those years. Now let's see if they go through with it.

So, basically, in exchange for saving her father in the timeline where Gordon accepts the GMAN's offer, Alyx is supplemented as Gordon's replacement, presumably so that she can effectively do what Gordon did. IIRC, Alyx was supposed to die in the mineshaft after she was impaled by the Hunter, but the Vortigaunts prevented that from happening, and so Eli was subsequently killed before he could properly expose the GMAN's plot regarding the Borealis.
the timeline is sort of the same. gman wants alyx because in the beginning of hl2 e1 gman is not happy that the vortigaunt push him away and Gordon will not help anymore, so now he was looking for someone else to replace him. gman wanted eli to die so that he could use it in the past as a way to persuade alyx to unknowing start working for him. the future is the same just eli is now alive and at that exact moment the gman took alyx into stasis. my guess is after this encounter in this game with the gman her memory of this encounter is wiped and place back to live on the next 5 years until gordon stops cooperating so then she will take his place.
@@TesserLink but is it implied that Gordon refuses to work for gman? I mean the vorts themselves repel the g man away without asking for Gordon's consent. I don't understand how the events of hl2 took place with alyx if she's put on stasis post half life alyx. If she had gravity gloves and did all those adventurous things, then why doesn't she or eli ever mention about that. Also I feel they could've gone into the flashbacks and shown how both eli and alyx were saved by g man. Black mesa incident in VR would've been dope. Also what happens to Russell? Does he die?
The story of HL: Alyx is sort of in between 1 and 2 but the conclusion of Alyx rewrites the story of HL2. In HL2, Gordon was released from stasis to end the Combine's control on Earth. And one of the consequences of that is at HL2:EP2 where Alyx should have died at the mineshaft from a hunter. But the vorts revived Alyx, so the consequences is Eli will be killed. And Gordon refuses to help GMan, which is not good for GMan. So Gman went back in time to lure Alyx in a previous date. (GMan contained) That's HL:Alyx storyline, Alyx said she wants the Combine be gone on Earth and Eli to live, so the consequences is being hired by Gman and Gordon is no longer hired, and placed into stasis or something. Therefore, HL:Alyx rewrites the story. Where the end of HL2:EP2, Eli dies and Gordon refuses to help GMan and makes Gordon let off the hook and placed into stasis or something, Gman travelled back in time to lure Alyx (HL:Alyx story) and hires Alyx to be Gordon's replacement in the HL2 storyline. It's like HL2 never happened, and Gordon never left stasis. Remember, Mark Laidlaw's post on his blog of the what should have been HL2:EP3 story. That screwed Valve on continuing the story of Gordon. So they did Alyx to rewrite the story of Half-Life. Whatever story happened in HL2 and all of its episodic content is virtually non-existent after HL:Alyx. Because of GMan does not want Gordon anymore, as the Vorts is pushing Gordon away from GMan, now it's most likely the story of Alyx.

We will not be renewing your employment with us, but we will be taking alyx as failure and you shall be left on this dying timeline.
No Valve said HL3 will not come out cuz the engine is to stressful to make and some other things I can't remember but HLA changed everything in the timeline (it's a cool game but I hate the fact that Alyx works for Gman now and her father never died)
30:09 That's the laugh you typically hear when the bad guy gets his hands on the ultimate doomsday device, or the secret magic artifact that will let him control the universe. In Half-Life, that artefact of infinite, world changing power is the crowbar.
Not really, if someone has any sense for storytelling, the chance of it being Gordon is an incredibly obvious misdirect. When characters are cock sure about a certain outcome, without it being confirmed to the audience in any other way, most of the time it's either true when the story later wants to wank off about how intelligent the main character is (mostly seen it in anime), or more often an obvious and overplayed red herring.
The Advisor notices Alyx. When time is rewound to just before it kills Eli, it LOOKS right at Alyx. That's fucking creepy, and says a lot more about what they're capable of.
I love how the jokes are perfectly executed, and I love how you enjoy them Also in half life 2, episode 1 Alyx (Who you are playing as in this) said something about how she wished she still had her flashlight, at 6:05 you have a flashlight she mentioned in that episode! I love that little detail
If you think of it, the strider boss battle is the first final boss battle in a Valve game since the Wheatley boss battle at the end of Portal 2 back in 2012.

Theory time! In the first half life game you were given a choice to accept g-man's job offer, if you didn't you got an alternate ending where you were sent to "a battle you can not win", the ending may imply that this Alyx is an alternate universe where she's Gordon's replacement when he declined the job offer.
So it took valve ten years and a new platform to make a new half-life. so by my calculations when we’re all downloading ourselves into computers and a thousand years for hl3?
Statistically speaking I'd expect two more games on this platform. Valve (ironically) seems to work in threes with Half Life. On the first platform (GoldSrc, environmental storytelling) we got: Half-Life Blue Shift Opposing Force And Decay if you want to count that. On the second platform (Source, physics engine) we got: HL2 HL2:E1 HL2:E2 On the new platform (Source 2, VR and modern graphics) we've had one game so far. So assuming there's a pattern, that means we can expect at least one more, likely two. Edit: Source Engine also had Lost Coast. So it's been one base game and three expansions per platform, more or less.
This had the single best ending of any game I've played in years. My jaw was on the floor the entire time. I'm very glad to see Valve are back to making games.
Spoilers, watch the video first. UNFORSEEN CONSEQUENCES, Gman only told Alyx to give her Father that warning at the end, right before Eli took the action that Gman said was TOO BIG A NUDGE. The resistance did it, they got the Combine off Earth by closing the portal, and the Gman couldn't allow it, so he CREATED the circumstances he needed for Alyx to willingly replace Gordon by dangling in front of her the one thing that could make her turn away from her heart's desire (the Combine off Earth), her Father's life. Little nudges, from time to time. Welcome back Valve, we missed you.
Doesn't this mean that now Grodon was released not to fight the combine but to change the course of events with his presence leading to a situation where Alyx can be recruited?
it took them 13 years to move the timeline forward 15 BLOODY SECONDS. then again this is a great game so I forgive valve

Yes
"raised hly hell then dissapeared"
well since gordon gets dropped in 5 years later i was thinking andrian shepard from opposing force
Well, at this point in the timeline, Gordon is still MIA. There are two people that were known to 'raise hell and disappear', those being G-Man, for sparking this whole chain of events, and Gordon, for, you know, being Gordon. I don't believe that Adrian Shepard would be remembered by anybody short of those few he helped out and that may have escaped, as he never meets any of the main cast. You do raise an interesting point, though; what might happen to Adrian? We know he was Detained by the G-Man at the end of Opposing Force. What that means exactly is unknown. It would be cool for him to have a future role in the Half-Life series.
I mean there was a mod for half life 2 where adrian and surviving G.R.U.N.T. soldiers were hunting gordon and blaming him for everything bad happened to earth
Adrian Shephard exists in the forbidden pocket dimension known as "Legal Limbo." He ain't coming out for a while.

Half Life: Alyx was a very strong urge to buy VR that I resisted, considering how expensive VR is. However, if Half Life 3, by some godforsaken miracle, is announced to be released in VR in my lifetime, my savings account is going to take a hit the same day I hear the news.
CJ Windows Mixed Reality headsets are a decent budget option for VR, unless most of the issues come from your PC. (IE. Insufficient performance).
Honestly, dont buy it for this game. I didnt progress the story much other than this epic moment. But playing as gordon again. Holy shit balls
Take a used VR-Set from eBay. My Oculus Rift S was about 50 % cheaper than a new set. I got mine just to play this game and I'm really glad I did. I'm on my third playthrough, playing around with the environment mostly, this time. Like trying to find out just how much stuff (grenades, xen-grenades, health-syringes and worm-cans AND the garden gnome) I can carry around by throwing it further down the corridors and picking it up again. when I'm not trying to catch headcrabs with buckets, that is. There will likely be a half life involving this adjusted timeline, either by suddenly seeing his friend come back, or by G-man stepping in and going "you failed us mr Freeman. No Valve said HL3 will not come out cuz the engine is to stressful to make and some other things I can't remember but HLA changed everything in the timeline (it's a cool game but I hate the fact that Alyx works for Gman now and her father never died)
@mtZi Yes they did, It's like a movie the game ended with a unfinished ending

30:09 That's the laugh you typically hear when the bad guy gets his hands on the ultimate doomsday device, or the secret magic artifact that will let him control the universe.
In Half-Life, that artefact of infinite, world changing power is the crowbar.
When he said that what if instead of Gordon it's the G-Man I was like "okay so you have seen the ending cause that too perfect of a blind guess"

If you think of it, the strider boss battle is the first final boss battle in a Valve game since the Wheatley boss battle at the end of Portal 2 back in 2012.
That's a surprisingly massive change and push for the HL story. Even at the end with them handing the crowbar over is like a great sign of them feeling confident enough to continue the story again

Theory time! In the first half life game you were given a choice to accept g-man's job offer, if you didn't you got an alternate ending where you were sent to "a battle you can not win", the ending may imply that this Alyx is an alternate universe where she's Gordon's replacement when he declined the job offer.
Maniac Magge I think rather than that, Gorden being replaced is due to how the Vortogaunts sever his connection to the G-man at the end of HL2
So it took valve ten years and a new platform to make a new half-life. so by my calculations when we’re all downloading ourselves into computers and a thousand years for hl3?
More likely HL3 will have already happened by the time Valve makes it.
@@brianlance8263 Well the games take place in the 1980s and early 2000s I think, so
Statistically speaking I'd expect two more games on this platform. Valve (ironically) seems to work in threes with Half Life. On the first platform (GoldSrc, environmental storytelling) we got:
Half-Life
Blue Shift
Opposing Force
And Decay if you want to count that.
On the second platform (Source, physics engine) we got:
HL2
HL2:E1
HL2:E2
On the new platform (Source 2, VR and modern graphics) we've had one game so far. So assuming there's a pattern, that means we can expect at least one more, likely two.
Edit: Source Engine also had Lost Coast. So it's been one base game and three expansions per platform, more or less.
@@Sammie1053 well lost coast doesn't technically count since its just a scrapped part of the base hl2
