  • My 1988 Toyota pickup would start but only run for a couple of seconds. This is a video on what my root problem was and then some adjustments made after i got it to run.

Thanks for the video years later, but it helped me now. One thing I noticed that many times it can be the idle air control valve located at the throttle body. It's worth a try for you guys if you're still having idle problems.

ECM is basically the computer ain't it? If so, if you replace it youre going to have issues getting it smogged for those living in states that have that

So wait the cold start injector on top of manifold wasn't sending around to the cold start timer switch is that what you're saying or down to the ECM

Literally having the exact same problem. I’ve checked everything. But I haven’t changed the ecu. I also haven’t took the top off the VAF. Should I grab an ecu or adjust the vaf first? This is driving me crazy!!

If you can find a ecm on the cheaper side I'd go for that first, I'm not too keen fooling with the afm.
Look by your antenna they're notorious for leaking or try to find a burnt spot on yours beforehand.
What exactly have you done to your truck to try & solve your problem?
Don't give up, you'll get it figured out.
      Best of luck.

Just an fyi for anyone having this problem…it was the ECU!!

@@MikeJones-fd9kt so you solved the problem ?changing the ECU?

@@zimarokas yes that fixed it. Before I changed the ecu when I’d turn the truck to the on position instead of the check engine light coming on and staying solid it would come on and “flicker” after literally a month of research I found a guy that said that a bad ecu would cause that. So I bought one, plugged it in and the check engine light stayed solid in the on position. it literally fired right up after I tried to start it!
