I've waited 25 years to start my first Warhammer 40k army and I haven't been this excited ever in my hobby life. Instead of going with the modern Orks, i'm going with Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader Space Orks all the way. Sit down and follow me on the journey of building my army.

Well done commercial 😎😂
All of my orks come from that time, I have 5 rogue trader power armoured orcs ( they are so small now that I use them as power armoured goblins) I have a sprinkling of the original orks again they are small so I use them as "yoofs" (or young orks), I have 10 freebooters painted but I have a few not painted , I have mostly orks that come with separate plastic arms which were later models, I have a rare weird boy and minders basically three orks all modelled together, I really need to get arse in gear and put my collection on you tube...cheers now
If u haven't already join r/orks on reddit the guys on there are really helpful
I love your integration of sponso it was way less infuriating than a simple ''go buy this stuff". I Appreciated the work on it.
When I tried Netflix with PIA, I couldn't watch anything, even if I was connected to a server in the same country. It's been over a year since, so I should probably try it again though. If I'm not mistaken, this behavior by Netflix is a violation of their own ToS, but good luck getting anything other than a SoL or cancelled account if you challenge them on this.
the cool thing about playing eldar, it's a like a time portal. the models are still from 2nd edition
Similar with Skaven and Lizardmen, Fantasy is completely gone and replaced and yet the models are still from the 1990s and very early 2000s.
Still have my retro eldar army from 2nd edition. Most of the models are still current and the main way you can tell its old is because the models are heavy and they have goblin green bases!
Yep, half my army is still 2nd edition models. Banshees, Striking Scorpions, Swooping Hawks, Warp Spiders, Rangers, Warlocks, and Jet Bikes. Wow.
Im a Battle Sisters player and I truly wish Eldar player are next to get some love.. you guys deserve it so bad at this point.. like if you look closely at sisters models next to an eldar model (unpainted for pure detail comparaison) Sisters details arent even in the same plane of existence haha.. still Eldar aged pretty well to be fair
Not all. The only models from 2nd are the Phoenix Lords, the Falcon, and Vypers. Everything is from 4th or newer.
I’m 42 - started collecting Citadel minis in 87 and have a huge collection. I’m always surprised when I bring a painted group to my FLGS and the kids go nuts over them. I’m pretty sure they prefer the new stuff, but cool that they can appreciate Oldhammer.
never played warhammer, but started painting when i was 9, still do
Same just a couple of games of killteam, feel like a fraud :)
You and Emil must change that!!!
I half played so many games never learned to play as we only had one hour at school and previously it was essentially run buy *that guy* who could afford more warhammer than the rest of us combined
Kinda gives me hope because I got my nephew involved in painting and pay him to paint my orks and poxwalkers. I hope he enjoys it
As an old ork player and collector, this makes this old nob happy.
Love a dedicated orks video, we need more!
Hey Squidmar, I still have 5 of the old metal ork bikes, 2 metal ork wartraks, 1 metal ork scotcher and the old ork battle wagon (this is still in box not even put together) along with 1 each of the old ork artilery (Traktor Canno, Splinter Skannotn, Squid Catapult and Pulsar Rokkit). Not sure one value but I have no intention of using it ever. Let me know if your interested :)
If you wanna see some more incredible stuff from 2nd Editon, look at the Elder Codex. It has Dinosaur-Riding Knights wielding Laser Lances. And Eldar Pirates. And a cannon which teleports its targets in all sorts of random directions, potentially including up, down, and *into a fourth dimensional void.*
Or the old ghost rifle of the fantoms guards have some random effects to
So true. ALthough the eldar codex still has alot of models that look like they belong in 2nd to this day!
Building an army of old models can be really fun. I still remember the confused looks I got when painting my army of squats in a GW store and a lot of people had no idea what they were.
The inquistation would like a word with you...
Best ad read ever.
Hi. Just want to say your video on the stone flooring and walls being painted other colours other than grey really inspired me. So thank you
awesome ad
What I love about some of these old minis is that they feel a lot less "busy" than some of the newer ones, I love that they have this "cleaner" design.
Ork Gargant: beer keg, cans, wrenches all soldered together
I've had people say to me that buying minis is throwing out money for thrash and I couldn't keep myself from laughing because pretty much the entire army I had at the time was kitted out with tacked on pieces of metal scrap I got from my dad.
I can totally feel your enthusiasm in this video haha. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
The illustrations from the older books are so inspiring and wildly various! This is a great idea for a series, looking forward to the next video
Wish I had another like button to smash! I had most of the models you showed in my first 40k army. So much nostalgia, thanks so much! Absolutely can't wait to see you painting them.
Watching this I felt a massive wave of nostalgia/excitement. I also started my Warhammer path with 2nd ed. orks, and still have a few stired away somewhere. The mega armour nob you painted in the end of the video really struck a chord with me. I could never find one back in the day and I still yearn for it. I think my next project will be to reanimate my old space orks. Thank you!
Great vid, it brought back memories of playing Space Orks back in the late 80's early 90's. I wish I had kept all those figures I had.
Those old orks were what got me into this hobby so long ago too. I can't wait to see your collection come together.
I remember in middle school getting driven down to a shop, and I bought the old ghazy, I recall his helmet was spiky cuz I kept poking my fingers with it, and his little gretchen sidekick. Good times.
This is literally a dream come true. I'm just working through my first Ork army, converting and basing and having so much fun. Now your doing it too cannot wait to see the terrain too
Epic :D
See that’s how you do a sponsor ad! Excellent video yet again. It was fun to see a lot of those old figures I used to play with when I was younger.
Glad you enjoyed it! it out lots of love in there
REALLY looking forward to the progression of this retro themed orc army, i love the old models as well.
Good luck!
So excited for you! I currently work on a similar emotional project, a marauder dwarf army. My dream army since i first saw warhammer.
It will be really cool to see how you paint these, if you go old school or if you paint them new school. Good luck!
If you want old models, just play Imperial Guard or Eldar...
:(
started with orks just now getting into eldar, hurts real bad
@@georgethomas9040 Eldar are comparitively easy compared to almost anything else. A lot or rogue trader era figures kept being made for years.
Orks have some very old sculpts still.
@@snoox27 Orks had pretty much completely changed style by third edition. Eldar kept aspect warriors etc. in metal for years longer, and even where they did not the style was not very different and could be used easily alongside earlier models. There are a few figures originally from 1994 that are still current.
Ouch...
This will be amazing to follow! I look forward to future videos on your Ork army!
My First army was Space Orks back In 94/95 I had many of these and loved them so much! But had a house fire and they all melted Into a big blob of lead :( Watch this brought me back how cool they was!
Love it! I would absolutely love an army diary for your space ork army :)
Cracking video! I love seeing the old models with a fresh coat of paint on them. Makes them look even better than the pictures
Just started painting after 15+ yrs, really hyped. Gonna finally finish my High Elf Blood Bowl team 🏈
welcome back mate! Its so much fun!
Old gw miniatures are so beautiful, I might start looking for some as well, thanks for the inspiration!
PLEASE VLOG etc the entire painting and basing of this entire collection. So cool and love to see armies/collections grow
In my chaos army, i play first version of obliterator and raptor, this figures are older than me because i’m 18
If you prefer the older obliterators you just have shit taste mate haha those models were horrible, no one liked them
Yes I collect warhammer figurines I play two squads of obliterator, one with 2 new version and one with the first nd the second version
Oh boy... I guess that means most of the current imperial guard range might be older than you... and me!
Great to see some of my old lead on the tube, Emil! Nice one!
Loved this video brother. It was like going through my own childhood story all over again.
So stoked for this new series! It's gonna be great seeing you build an army and terrain for ye olde boys, keep it up!!
I basically just finished painting my two quarantine armies and they’re from 2009 when I was a teenager and I always wanted these (3rd Edition)
Your channel is the reason I got into miniatures, thank you for always providing great entertaining content.
Thx for the love mate!
Hey, you aren't allowed to be quirky and fun, this is gimdark, didn't anyone tell you we are grimdark now? could someone get him a copy of the grimdark memo?
we tried sir, but the courier got eaten alive n front of his family. the next one got ripped apart in transit, the ne... well... we've sent a lot but they never make it through all this Grimdark.
It was all black ;)
I absolutely could, but it's too dark, blood-soaked and covered in skulls to read.
except its less and less grimdark since like 2015 and people cry about it nonstop. that's why DG got a reboot, to stop the "omg no more grimdark" crowd
@@Scoti17 Except for the red door, but you know what happens next.
im 10 I got now my first set tree revenants
Awesome!
The Sylvaneth are a pretty cool faction.
Aww
@8:09 My favorite moment, one of the models falls apart. ;)
Oh my... that photo of Emil and his band just brought me back to my high school days too.
Such a nostalgia trip. I literally bought the same models, played warhammer for a while, got into metal and kinda left warhammer behind. I still love metal now and got back into warhammer about a year ago and have been loving painting some of the awesome new sculpts and hunting down some of the old fantasy models I wanted as a kid.
Squidmar: (casually) I've managed to get about 100 Ork minis...
Me: *repainting the same 5 primaries marines for the 59th time"
want me to buy you some minis? i will if you're that desperate
@@deetvleet That's very kind of you, but I was just kidding. Besides, it'd feel a bit weird having a complete stranger buy my stuff... 😅
Laughs in Imperial Guard
Oh man, I'm so excited for you and the future videos. Oldhammer forever!
You and me both!
Awesome video Emil! This inspired me to start an army, I've been just painting for a while, but never decided what army I would choose.
100% with you pal. Out of intrest what are you leanig towards?
I'm really enjoying the retro content that's going around recently. These old ork models bring back some very fond memories. Might have to dig through my own stash and see if I can pull up a few. Great video dude
As an ork player in 40k, I'm suuuper excited about your journey with them!! Keep us updated :D
I never had any prior knowledge of minis and miniature painting, until I saw your channel. So glad I clicked, now I love watching your awesome videos 👍
Thanks for sharing your origin story! The old miniatures have so much character. Can't wait to see what you do with them
Brings back great memories. Thank you for this video.
Hi Emil, I love the videos, they’ve been an inspiration during lock down! I remember all the nostalgic 80’s minis and orks always seemed great! Would be good to see you painting these boyz up.
For possible subbing in, not sure on the size, but have you looked at the old metal epic scale great gargants? 1st and second edition versions would be really in keeping with the rest of the retro army 😊
Hey Squidmar! i just wanted to tell you that your videos are great, i love your channel! and well you motivated me to make my first conversion (from blood bowl saurus to seraphon saurus warriors) and geting into this hobby!!
My dad started a 40k ork army last weekend and it’s been a lot of fun building lists and talking about the game with him
Love it! I am a big D&D fan and know nothing about War Hammer so thank you for this video!
The game itself is fun, but the amount of lore that has been written for the entire Warhammer universe can fill an entire library. It is of oceanic depth, and probably the best aspect of this game.
I love seeing some of the late 80s models brings back memories of my collection of space orks. The Ghazgull Thraka was a peticular favourite of mine back then, looks so badass
Loved learning about ur warhammer 40k history
It's great vids like yours that have gotten me inspired to get back into this hobby. Keep up the good work.
I'm very excited for this! When I first got into Warhammer my friend gave me a unit of those Kommando Orks and they have always had a special place in my heart.
Looking forward to seeing the project progress. My favourite old Ork model was the old Deffkoptas
Ah, thanks for reminding me about the snotling gun! The first time me and my brother went into a GW, one of the staff explained how that gun worked to us and I remember thinking it was the best thing ever, lol.
Awesome collection, looking forward to see how you make it your own :)
If you read this, I have the egg dreadnought with the head sticking out and I'm not doing anything with it. I'm missing the hatch and the banner pole though, but on the other hand I have extra claws.
My favorite mini I used to have was the Cybork with kustom kicking legs.
hey man you should 100% make vid updates on this army your making. this vid was great and yeah the miscast Nurgle army was great to watch. keep up the good work
Great video, very very inspiring, I love the old hammer vibe.
Friend you and I both .... I’ve collected armies as I love the hobby side of it. Loving this series and can’t wait to see it completed
love all of this! so cool!
Nice. Rogue Trader Orks are so full of character. I remember these coming out, I have quite a few myself. It'll be fun watching the army come together.
Can't wait to see how you paint them all
i really love your orks related videos, i am waiting for one painting red armor like your megaboss!, thanks for your content :)
I love all of the old Citadel and Marauder miniatures. There are so many childhood memories in it, no matter how beautiful you immerse yourself in this world.
Awesome project. Looking forward to it. For terrain, you just have to have the classic green cacti with red spikes :-D
I've recently collected a Space Ork army myself this year, and have found community with fans of this era of the hobby. The craft and design on these models is incredible for the time.
very cool, ive had the same idea, just rediscovered Warhammer and most of what i have is old school orks , so want to keep the old school theme, il be waiting to steal your ideas!
You look so incredibly happy talking about these things :)
This video really hit home. I started in with Warhammer back in 1985; just fell in love with all the quirky, fun, and characterful models. Flash forward 35 years and I still haven't played a game of Warhammer, been in and out of the hobby a few times, and recently got back in. I've gotten rid of most of my old miniatures (for shame, I know), but I still have a few of the old mines. They're so good. Now I just have to paint them...
Loving all this Oldhammer content lately. Can't wait to see this army come to life.
That Ork's arm falling off during the slow pan LMAO 8:10
Aaaah! I LOVE the 1st and 2nd edition 40k space orks! They were my first army i collected back in the early 90s, and still have them all (and all the old books are GLORIOUS). but I NEED MOAR :D
Great video Emil! But where are the next ones? I'd love some further content on Orks from you. Also whatever else 2nd ed would be awesome! ❤
A great dose of nostalgia. I still have a box of 1st generation plastic space orks, plus one of the old metal shock attack guns you showed. My favourite though is my metal ork weird boy with his two minders wrestling him onto the battlefield.
I love how you turn the sponsor into a comedy skit.
Thx for noticing :) I tried making it more interesting and fun, as these sponsors are a necessary to keep running the channel I wanted to make sure you as viewers understand I don't take you for granted :)
@@SquidmarMiniatures It was great lol, the fake show titles were hilarious.
Well if you are going to do adverts, this is a way to ensure watch them.
I actually have one of those old space ork warbosses, its a great model! loved to see it get some time to shine!
Such a classic video, love the Oldhammer Orks!
I'm so lucky my missus brought me a box of gorkamorka back, the original!
Now that is oldschool. I love it!
I love painting them too! I still have yet to play!
Still got many of these figures :) Just re-embarking on painting after a shot break of 33 years or so!
I never played any GW games (or any other table top game), but I was obsessed with painting minis when I was younger. Having seen your channel I am seriously considering getting back into painting.
Can tell why you and Guy at Midwinter Minis get on so well now! You’re a right pair of Ork Boyz!!
I did the same with space marines! I got 90 rogue trader plastic marines and some dreads/artillery and painted them up. Super nice look once they are finished and they just look so so goood
I run space marines.
Almost all of my models are older than me.
Every single genestealer I own is the old space hulks.
I love exploring the bones of an old game
The feeling of bringing metal models to a newer game and having a newer player be absolutely amazed by _metal_ Devastators and Scouts makes keeping the old models absolutely worth it.
@@Phoenix8492 so true brother.
Cool to see some old minis, I didn't play back than, but looks cool ;)
oh Emil! you don't know how badly i would love to have a goblin sky pirate army in aos! if GW doesn't do it i will do so myself
Oldhammer was the best time in my live :)
Great vid Iv watched a few now and it’s made me get up in my loft and find my big box of stuff, I was 10 when I started collecting and carried on till I was 22 I’m now 38 lol
Crazy how Ghazghkull used to be smaller than a guardsman 😂😂
Scale creep is the true struggle.
Yeah I have the newest ghazkull but I must say the old ones are pretty great
Well orks get bigger as they get meaner...lol
At some point even the Emperor of Mankind was a normal sized guy. You have to start somewhere. :)
The Rogue General Hunter primarchs were all marine sized once, right? How else does alpharius make sense
Niiice! We will enjoy your Ork Journey with you haha
perfect timing. I'm starting my first 40k army at the moment and they are orks too :)
ger dig en tumme upp helt klart för sponsor delen xD bästa sett jag sett som sponsor reklam på alla dessa kanaler
Will be good to see how you apply modern techniques to the older figures and how they come out.
my very first figure i painted was the Ork Warboss with Attack Squig and is still my best painted to date 20 years later
This is awesome to hear more people prefer the old models. I’ve been doing the same for about a year now. I’m building a tyranid army that’s trying to be only old molds and same with my space marine army. It feels like those older models just have so much more character behind them and it’s awesome to see that you seem to agree!
