Minor nit-pick correction: The 1980's Rhino and Land Raider were originally just generic armoured vehicles for 40K. You could use them for any army.

@@101Mant You are right of course. I seem to recall reading something like that in the original Rogue Trader 40K rulebook, or at least in one of the early issues of White Dwarf just after the release of 40K.
On the original box art text they were described as "armoured assault vehicle" and "battle tank of the 41st millenium". Later on they added "Space Marine" to the text - that must have been when GW started writing proper rules for the game.
I miss Squats in Land Raiders tho.

The resin print definitely turned out more Stompa sized than Great Gargant, but it's absolutely great seeing those again. 2nd Ed was my favorite edition of 40K, and I was a huge EPIC player, that's actually how I started the hobby, as an Adeptus Titanicus/Space Marine player. Armorcast and Epicast were within driving distance for me back in those days, so I saw the Great Gargant in stores and at conventions pretty regularly. In fact, one of my early 40K outings was at the Epicast HQ (aka his house) where I played a 2nd ed. 40K battle on his ping-pong table... but the terrain was literally prop models salvaged from the Titanic movie that were roughly in-scale for 40K. The reason Armorcast's license wasn't renewed: they produced a Baneblade model that was SO good it made GW nervous. It was nearly as good as the plastic Baneblade you can buy today. That's the moment the relationship began to sour. GW decided to start their own resin division and declined to renew with Armorcast, Epicast and Forgeworld, which, iirc, was a 3rd licensee on the East Coast of the USA. The new GW resin division took up the Forgeworld name, but they weren't the first to use it in producing resin 40K models. The rest is history. I still see Tim at the local cons and he may be running a Titan battle, or a Battletech cityfight (he made 28mm scale Battlemechs) or a big Necromunda underhive scrum. He and Mike made a lot of great stuff and I'm glad I still have some of it in my collection... although I stupidly sold off my resin Warhound Titan years ago. D'oh! >.

The coolest thing is that GW demanded Tim send the raw molds to them in England from Southern California or face a lawsuit. He proved that there was a market for Epic items in 40k. GW being GW, was greedy, didn't want him to just stop. They wanted the business and the product. As I heard it, Tim razor bladed the molds into small cubes and wrapped them in plastic so that when GW excitedly opened the molds they crumbled into pieces. I was a Last Grenadier in Northridge during my formative years. I wonder how Owen is.....

I've been gaming long enough that I remember when this was new. I am fortunate enough that I now own one. A couple of months I went to a bit swap at a FLGS and a guy had one. He didn't sell anything that day and we traded a bunch of terrain for it. It's missing one foot, and some little bits and the back balcony, but I'm going to 3d print replacements for those bits. Still very cool to have such an iconic model.

This is cool and the paint job is awesome - what’s the final size on it? My only thought is that it feels a bit small for a great gargant, but it may be that it’s perfectly in scale compared to the 2nd Ed Orks, and it’s just 25 years of scale creep that’s throwing me off

Well done! Got to love those old Armorcast and Epicast models and their aesthetic. I find only the Khorne ones too goofy for me. Looking for the Ork Bowelburna. The pearl of my collection is that first Reaver titan from the the first Inquisitor magazine covers. Purchased from Mike Biasi in 2004 to be my big birthday present. Mike was super nice and included a signed certificate of authority - which was properly punched through by the Reaver's powerfist thumb during the shipping :D
For those interested in history and initial Armorcast production - Mike Biasi's letters reveal some info. First models were made from epoxy resin with urethane rubber molds and tedious manual resculpting. They then moved on to higher quality silicone molds and more detailed casts.

I actually got to play a demo game with the Gork/Mork stompers and an old titan way back in 2002, at a local game store.
The guy who ran the demo was from out of town, and the models where painted with poorly done enamel paints. I thought those models where just gathered together trash till this very video. I thought the whole thing was basically some big joke, and the store owner was just placating a crazy man.
