- First time driving Gandalf, our 1930 Ford Model A Deluxe Coupe on a real drive! Didn't bring any tools, parts, no safety net or brains whatsoever. What could possibly go wrong? Parked in 1979, and sold to me in 2000 with a locked up motor, tons of problems, and so filthy, the spiders were wearing slippers. Will it start and drive and make it home? ".. the spiders were wearing slippers.."😂😂😂
They and their slippers got evicted! hahahaa
In my case it’s a cockroach motel 🙄🙄🙄
Great 😂😂😂🎉
Your car sounds like mine. My 1931 Deluxe Coupe had mechanical problems but the mechanic's health did not allow him to repair it. So it sat for 30 years and then we began complete restoration. So now we are still restoring it but all is going well.
At least you're making progress!
@@ModelA yes sir, especially with your videos and wisdom
Gandalf is looking good! We need to catch up some time!
JOE!!!!! So glad to see you are online again! I sent the Sig Stat back and it got returned "undeliverable". So it is still in my shop. Please email me!
New subscriber here! I've been watching your videos for a little while now and really enjoy them. I hope to have a Model A someday but in the mean time I can at least watch your videos! Keep up the good work!
Awesome! Thank you!l Matthew!
I hear some humor that is similar to Derek at VGG! "It'll be fine!" 6:35 Good video Paul.
If I said "I'll be dipped", that would have sealed it.
So much fun, As Always! Thank you !
Owned my 1930 Model A Coupe Deluxe and watching you on this I feel has kept me on the road. Thanks Paul & T
Great, Gary!
You’ll never see a modern car last as long as the venerable Ford Model A.
That's a fact
Nice good roads & no traffic. And it's all green out there, the scenery. Nice car you guys. Thanks for the tour. Best wishes. Been trying to watch this video for days.
Sweet, Gandalf's first run out in the wild open roads. Sounds like it did great and we got to see some awesome scenery. Good luck with the cosmetic fixes and with the tour. I hope your week goes great, God Bless you both.
Thanks, Dan! God bless you too!
Great video. Happy to hear that Gandalf has become a reliable old man again. I bought my first Model A Ford, 1930 Tudor in December of last year. It quickly became apparent that starting, and especially restarting, was an issue. A disconnect of a battery quick disconnect and back to frame and block, a new battery, new head, and a new rebuilt carburetor later, and she now starts right up cold and warm. Now I can go places and not worry if I will need a tow truck. Well, for a while any way.
Love you show and transfer of knowledge.
You're an official "Model A guy" now!
Hi Tina and Paul! Thanks for taking us all on a ride to lake in Gandolf! Looks like so much fun!
Thanks Jeffery!
Gandolf gets down the road nicely. Thanks for the enjoyable ridealong.
Glad you enjoyed it Pat!
Thanks for the video. Nice trip in a very nice sorounding and the car did it!!
Yes!
Great drive and a stunning area to live in. Enjoy your videos.
Thanks! I love Calaveras County. I just wish it wasn't in California.
Great Shakedown Cruise Paul 👍 Very much looking forward to the windshield replacement!! Thanks for the ridealong my friends!!
Thanks Michael!
Inspirational!!!
Having fun returning my '30 Business Coupe barn find to the street... and getting its first title since 1930! Hope to catch up with you and "Gandolph" in the near future!
Thanks for the ride. There is some really beautiful countryside where you guys live. And there's really no need to fast forward through the driving bits, I personally really enjoy those too.
Thanks! I have several videos showing that same drive in real time. The analytics show that viewers usually skip those parts.
Shinn family, we love you!
Thank you!
Nice vice grip garage reference!
Cheers!
So I’m watching this doings dishes and I find myself going faster and faster, just got done, now I’m taking the roadster for a spin 🤣. Have a great holiday this weekend. 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Hey, I was able to improve Mike's productivity!!
Looks like Gandalf is very close to ready. If you like to tinker with things a Model A is for you. There's always something to work on or adjust. Sometimes it's easy and sometimes it's not but there is a great community willing to offer assistance. Thank you Paul and Tina for being part of that community.
Thanks Craig! Honestly, once a Model A is fully sorted, very little tinkering is necessary. My tudor was "jump in and go anywhere" sorted. My sport coupe is also. My fordor is pretty much that way, but it just sits all the time, so I always do a lube before driving it once or twice a year.
Awesome!
Aloha Paul & Tina,
I loved this video! First watched it on my phone but it’s way better watching it on my TV.
This car looks great!!
I hope you got all the black widow spiders and mice out of her! 😂😂
I didn’t notice the shifter bend but I don’t think it would be a big deal.
Can’t wait to see more videos on her!! 🤙🏽❤️🙏🏼
All the spiders have been evicted. The mice were temporary tenants who thankfully never got inside, but made snacks out of the exposed wiring beneath. Need to get the car up on the lift and give the undersides a good cleaning. That will take days!
Absolut Amazing.
That’s a beautiful!
You can't ask for anything more from a "shake down" run. Like you said, a couple tweaks and it will indeed be sorted. On a personal note, I'm really, really, falling for this car. I thought the Tudor you sold a few years back was my favorite, but this one speaks to me. Thanks for taking us along. God bless, have a great week ~ Chuck
Thanks Chuck!! There is something about this junk car that speaks to us. My old tudor lives in KY now. They are having a blast driving it to car shows and on tours.
@@ModelA I think "honest" is the word that hits me with Gandalf. Mechanically sound as a dollar, and just a few scars to let everyone know he's seen some things. I don't like the patina look per se, Gandalf seems more like wisdom wrinkles and laugh lines. I pray the new owners of the Tudor get to enjoy it for many happy years. It truly is an awesome car. ~ Chuck
Day Date in a Model A - Priceless!
That's how we roll....
Very nice .
Thanks a lot
Awesome 👍
Thank you Gregg!
Ah... nice start up. The last time I lubed my distributor the car ran really really rough! I was puzzled until I looked under the hood and saw that I forgot to reattach the spark plug leads! LOL !!! Have you ever done that Paul?
You only do it once.
The Tudor Model A's were really beautiful little cars. Once someone that knows what they are doing has inspected it, they are reliable. With my old fords I worry about overheating, as that can ruin an engine. .
Gandalf has character and sounds good. You can tell just from the sound how well the car is 'sorted' - Cheers from Taos.
Thanks Alex! It is well on its way to being sorted. Not quite there yet. That steering needs a little attention.
I love that car....
Me too!
cool video
thank you!
Was that a cold start?! 1 crank, 2 crank, fire! Wow.
Model As WANT to run!
@@ModelA I think it's the difference between knowing the secret handshake and performing it with love.
You know Daryl with VVG, & he rebuilt a truck, a work truck, but it could also be a going - to -town truck... I wonder, if, you could do something like that, BUT, Add items from today. EFI, A/C, maybe High Compression... I really do not know if that is even all you could to, I love your videos. I think I was 13 or 14 when I started driving on the farm, we had a 1945 1.5 ton 4x4 dump truck that I learned to drive on, can you imagine a T, fuel injected, with 10.5:1 pistons, maybe even turbo/ or even Super Charged? What is that? I do not know, BUT, IT Could be really cool.
I know Derek from VGG pretty well. We've hung out. Don't know Daryl though.
What engine oil do y’all run in them cars? I have a 1924 packard an I was wanting to know what I should run in it
Off topic of this video sorry, many times in the past you said that you will always convert to insert bearings for your engines… where do you get these kinds of part for the conversion?
Thank you for sharing and your content!!
I buy them from AER, and have my machinist do the machine work for me, then I assemble.
Obviously she loves her daddy and model T.🚗👍
I couldn’t drive in an area like that without being tailgated by a pickup
A jacked up monster pickup, driven by some balding douche wearing flip flops, shorts down past gis knees, and a baseball cap on backwards with sunglasses on it, usually.
There's nothing better than driving your A around. I tell people, " It isn't a pleasure to drive, but, it IS fun."
Hahaa! That it is.
Just where did you find that cool music on your videos?
I play drums and know a bunch of guys who play brass. For the rest, I have Mikael Carnevali @mikaelcarnevali who is an amazing composer and arranger! And, he doesn't charge me full price, I Get a discount.
When you daily drive like you did in your sport coupe how often do you lube the distributor. Just thinking about how it was back in the 30’s
Good question! I just did it now and then when I was thinking about it. Maybe every month or so. Mostly, I'm talking to the people who only use their Model A for an occasional club tour, the car that sits for a month or more between drives.
@9:27 ... When I was a little kid (1968-ish), my dad had a '48 Harley Panhead. He said it would get you anywhere you wanted to go. Just don't want to go too far, because it wouldn't get you back.
Hhhaaaa!!! My uncle said the exact same thing!
@@ModelA 🤣🤣🤣
Out in CA. can't you get the black plate for that?
Yea, for a LOT more money every year. No thanks.
Hey Paul could you have had DMV reactivate Gandalf’s CA black license plate?
The old plates look great on antique cars.
It would have been a costly hassle. I hate giving this state one penny more than necessary!
I just live the model A. I really want to own and drive one but sadly here in the UK you hardly ever see them and I guess they would be very exoensive . I do enjoy cruising in my 40 year okd Granada though . Do enjoy that winderful car .
Excellent! There are a few Model As in Germany
Paul do have video on replacing wheel studs 0n a Model A 1930?
About 9 minutes into this video- ua-cam.com/video/diKFNkIEmxA/v-deo.html
@@ModelA So how much pressure do you to put the new one back in?
It is a 60 ton press, and you heard the struggle.
I knew it will drive right And get Model T back home !
I was a little surprised
@@ModelA You Are a good Mechanic on a Model A !
So is Gandalph at his permanent home or will he be looking for a new residence in the near / later future? I've enjoyed the series on his progress!
Gandalf has a special mission coming up. It's still a secret.
Hey Paul not sure if this would be cool but if you did a video on how to properly convert a model A from 6 volt to 12volt the dos and don’ts pros and cons
I have done a couple videos showing going from 12 volts back to 6. I won't do one showing how to make a Model A worse, only better.
@@ModelA hahah no worries that’s my bad I may have over looked these videos I’ll have to go back and watch ! Thanks for the reply have a good Memorial Day weekend 😄
❤❤❤
Congratulations on its maiden run since 75
Thanks Paul!
It's just now getting a tag?? Oh the criminality... and I thought this was a family channel!! 😉
Hahahahaaa! You made me LOL!
@@ModelA 🙃
I cant wait for my model A's first tour sense well the last time it was registered was in the 60s but is in waaayy to good of condition to be that long sense it was cared for. However it most likely wont be this season, next season or the next .as its full to the brim with issues I don't quite understand. put a new distributor on it and it acts like its not getting gas, overheats, walks the road worst than a snake aand the roofs held on by duct tape as i cant Offord the wood replacements. still cant wait though.
But, the day is drawing near! And, that is a good thing.
Hi Paul, my name is Paul and I really enjoyed this latest video of about Gandolf Green really enjoyed it. I’ll probably have some questions for you. I subscribe to your channel. I’m going to be inheriting a 1930 model an and I have some questions so stay tuned I willsend or is there a link that I can email you? Thanks Paul have a great day, Paul.
Sent your tech questions to "modelatechquestions (at) gmail.com"
No front plate is okay on a model A in California. The car sounds and is looking great.
Technically, not. But where it is going, that is OK
HELLO it is me 6 days late Old F-4 II Shoe🇺🇸 = Thanks very much.....
No problem Shoe! Don't let it happen again! Hahhaaa
New windshield coming soon?
Yes! VERY soon
Paul, you’re a little more adventurous than I am. I’m planning to go out this afternoon and have lunch with Mark Leder a bunch club members. We are meeting for what Mark calls a running board lunch from there we are going to the Pavek Museum to n St Louis Park. It is right up your ally. It has old broad casing equipment.
Than we will take a run around the Minneapolis chain of lake.
I am bring tools😀
Hope to see you down a country Road.
Steve
When I come for a visit, will you please take me there???
You bet!
Always welcome!
Gandalf took his first trip off the reservation
Yep! Almost literally
How about historic plates?
they cost more
@@ModelA oh ok
"What could go wrong?"
Morgan Freeman: "Everything could go wrong."
Morgan Freeman's voice makes everything better.
@@ModelA indeed. I wish he'd narrate my life. Unfortunately, I think mine is more Samuel L Jackson after doing a line of coke or something.
Hahaaa!! My life story voiceover artist is Tardy the Turtle from "Greg the Bunny". So, you're much better off with SLJ.
@@ModelA well, just more colorful language.
@@mandolinman2006And the narrator for my life? Probably Will Geer as Bear Claw from Jeremiah Johnson. See? I told ya pilgrim...
It's ready to drive to Ruidoso?
HA!! Nope
Any particular reason you don’t register it as an antique car?
Any car that goes through your hands becomes the best it can be. This one will be no exception.
In Commiefornia, if you register as an antique, they restrict when and how you can drive it. I want NO restrictions. The less guvment in my life, the better.
@@ModelA Oh dear God; it’s really screwed up there, isn’t it? Such a pity because it is such a beautiful state.
It is SO screwed up now!! I'm really looking forward to leaving it. My vote doesn't count here either.
Maybe it’s foolish optimism but when I drive my 26 Oakland I don’t bring tools and I expect it to get me home, that being said I haven’t driven it long distances.
That thing doesn't have the parts support of a Model A Ford, so that would be even MORE scary!
No sense bringing tools if you don't bring parts... Wire, duck tape, glue, snips, alum foil, hose clamps, tire. Pat**/ tube patches, cell phone, etc....😅
just dont drive it like you stole it! cause it will steal you lol!
Haa
