I bought a 4-door model of this car off a farm in Nebraska about 20 years ago. Hauled it home to Oregon, cleaned it up and sold it to a guy. It was a '66 and the same color, but not close to the fine condition as this one is. Nice find! 🙂👍

From NZ My dad bought a new F-102, the final 2-stroke before they kept the shape, put a 4-stroke engine in it and called it an Audi. The F-102 was an excellent car and for the day, was a pocket rocket ship and never gave any trouble in the 53000 miles dad put on it. Modern synthetic 2T oils would have been of benefit, allowing for leaner adjustments on the injector and therefore less smoke.
I recall driving a similar car way back in the 1970s in interior Ghana . It was owned by an Indian who taught maths in a government school. It was lovely to drive and beautiful to look . Didn't know it came with disc brakes or am I mistaken? Thanks for this lovely video!
Back around 1968, I had 3 of them. Needed 3 to be able to keep 1 running. Roller bearing crankshafts kept burning up. Could pull the engine by hand by straddling the fenders. 3 cylinder, 2 stroke engines. 2 of mine you had to add oil to the gas before filling up, but the 3rd one had a separate oil tank and oil injection.
In the first 30 seconds, I was like WOW! Hope that you can find new Tail Light Lenses. If not, take the old ones for 3D Scan. Maybe someone can 3D Print to original spec. A car with unique beauty, and made by workers with pride. This reflects in its' quality.
I loved these old DKW's. Our neighbour across the road owned one back in the 1960's, and a good friend of mine had one in his family. I loved the way it sounded and the way it ran. I definitely preferred it to the Volkswagens of the time. I wish I owned one of these gems today. Around here I recall guys racing these cars, souping up their engines to produce more than 100HP. Man, they were good to listen to.
The model originated as DKW and was renamed Auto Union but they were still DKW's - later they changed to four stroke engines and renamed the car Audi. Audi was then bought by VW.
Auto Union was the brandname to which Mercedes Benz switched after they took over the enterprise in 1958. These Auto Union 1000 with the wrap around windshield came for 1959 and ended 1963 to be replaced by the F102. The origin (F9) of the design dates back to 1939 and was buildt after the war 0:04 as F89 and F91 (in GDR as IFA F9) with a 10cm widening of the body in 1955 (F93). In 1964 VW bought the Auto Union and transplanted a four stroke engine (Mitteldruckmotor) that Mercedes had brought to Ingolstadt into the F102 and named it Audi.
My late Dad had 14 D.K.W.'s, all sorts. My favourite were the '63 models. I bacame knowledgeable about them, and could rebuild the engine before I was 12. Fantastic cars, great memories! I'm from the R. of S.A., by the way. They were popular and well loved here! So nice to see one again. 😍😍😍
Hi Vic, I need to rebuild my 900cc DKW engine. I wonder how the pistons and Crankshaft are set back into the block. Any hints would be welcomed, thanks, Philippe
@@phildelfosse8085 Hi there Philippe! Where are you from? Last time I worked on them were in the '70's! I remember the holes in the pistons of which no. 1 and 2 pointed in the same direction, and no. 3 away. If you google a bit, you'll find quite a bit of info on them. The guys even race them still! I saw some videos a while ago. Very nice! Just search a bit, there are lots of info and clips. I hope you'll be able to get parts! The crank assembly as a whole has to be lowered in. The guys sling it up, and them you gotta guide the rings/pistons in alternatively, a little bit at a time. This they did from the top As a 12 year old, I lay the block on its side, and with the flywheel/front pulley on, made a "ramp" to level the crank and then "rolled" forward, guiding the pistons in. Alone. Quite a mission. You have to be very careful not to break the rings! Also, make sure that the ring ends/pins, that stops them from turning are not visible in the ports, then it's wrong. Good luck Man! So nice to see some of them are still around. Is it a Junior, or F 12? I think the Junior was a 750 cc, and the F 12 900 cc. The older models were also 900 cc if i remember correctly.
