The word “support” is used by all companies because the FDA would shut them down quick if they used words like “heal” or “fix”. “Support” is the legal safe way to make claims.
howcanwestopit so true!
Support / encourages / enhances etc....
The phrasing "supports" has to do with the fact that alternative medicine products are legally not allowed to make certain health claims anymore. But phrasing it in this way ís allowed. I live in the Netherlands so not sure about the law for American products, but here that is the reason for using the word "support" a lot when supplements make certain health claims. Keep up the good content, love the down to earth objectiveness 😉
Claudia Kerssemakers it is the same in America. If the FDA has not approved the product you can not make claims.
Claudia Kerssemakers Great point. I often see the phrases ‘may assist with...’ or ‘aids with’ on supplements too. These are indeed based on therapeutic guidelines for the advertising of prescription and non-prescription substances, different for each country/region. We have similar regulatory guidelines here in AUS. You’ll also often the the markers ‘AUST R’ or ‘AUST L’ on bottles/boxes here. The R indicates medicines assessed for safety, quality and effectiveness (ie. they do what they say they do as substantiated by evidenced-based, peer reviewed research). The L indicates low risk ingredients that are assessed for safety and quality, but not effectiveness (ie not a strong body of evidence to determine they absolutely will have the desired effects, but they aren’t harmful either, if taken as indicated). I wonder if other countries have similar labelling requirements?
It is the same in New Zealand, we have to get very creative with language lol
Claudia Kerssemakers Has
In American corporations it is called "Health Supportive Safe" language to avoid lawsuits. Supplements must not be sold with a drug action, so make any claims to cure, treat, or prevent, otherwise they go through FDA testing and likely will fail.

Don’t potatoes have lectins? I don’t buy the hype, but some doctors think you need to avoid those.
Okay but I CAN'T DEAL WITH THE FACT THAT THEIR SITE SAYS MUSHROOMS HAVE EXPERIENCED "FOOD RACISM" LIKE WHAT???
Wait...whaaaaaaaat?? 🤦 You're kidding right? 🤣
Ayce Venture I agree that word holds a lot of weight
I mean, I think a lot of people have dismissed mushrooms and instead acted like they were "gross" etc. Mushrooms have definitely been excluded. I understand what they're saying but they could have said it differently.
Hipsie some people just dont like mushrooms. it’s not racism shut up
I think they should substitute the world "racism" for "discrimination"....People do seem to "discriminate" against mushrooms, but scoffing them based on looks and biased perceptions about the way they taste, but "racism" denotes that mushrooms are a "race" and they are not.
I would be interested to hear you discuss CBD.
Cbd is a legitimised form of treatment for pain, anxiety, sleeping problems and also epilepsy. If she tries to deny this I will lol.
I think if she were to deny anything it would be the wild claims about cannabis oil curing cancer lol even people I know who hate weed with everything in them have accepted the medical research on CBD
CBD has helped my anxiety induced insomnia but that's about it for me. It doesn't do anything for my depression at all and it doesn't leave me calm enough to go out in public so it's not super effective on my anxiety either. But i also have no metabolic reactions to a lot of drugs like benzos or painkillers so i might just be unlucky with cbd too.
How much do you take to sleep Teya?
CBD gave me a REALLY bad stomach pain, it took me more than a week to recover from it - my dad tried it a long time but it stopped working after a while, yeah did not work well
I'm that rare person who can't drink a cup of coffee without feeling sick from the caffeine but even the promise of no jitters isn't enough to make me drop $30+ on weird mushroom brew 😬
I am also very sensitive to coffee even though i love the taste. Teaccino and black teas are typically ok with my tummy and can be mixed with creamer the same way you'd do with coffee but i also really like matcha for flavor and the fact that the caff is lower and it has other stuff in it that keeps you relaxed so no jitters. Also sometimes i find that decaf coffee with a little bit of regular coffee is fine for me in like a 3 to 1 ratio. I don't need much if any caf to function so it's more for when i really need an energy boost. You might have an easier time with teas ^_^
Try using L-Theanine with your coffee.
Surprisingly, cold brew coffee gives me less jitters than “normal” coffee, maybe give that a shot if you’re so inclined? Tea’s also great as far as jitters are concerned, for me at least.
Me too! I can kinda handle coffee if I have something on my stomach (I get jittery but I don’t feel sick) but otherwise, I can’t enjoy a “first sip of the day” 😅
The four sigmatic breakfast coffee really made me feel above all that you get what you pay for. And when you’re paying for your health it’s worth it, especially for these Starbucks kids who spend that much on coffee all ready. I would be willing to buy the instant blend that you mix into hot water to share with skeptical or interested people, it’s delicious! Comes in individual packets which would be perfect for sharing.
Fun fact! The increase in acid during exercise actually isn't due to lactic acid production; its due to the rapid ATP turnover (which gives off one proton per ATP burned) caused by muscle contraction. Its a prevailing myth (even among doctors) that lactic acid is the cause of this, when at physiological pH, lactate is deprotonated, so its basic rather than acidic. I learned this in my biochemistry class this semester, and I figured I'd let you know since you love debunking incorrect "science" ;) (source is Berg, Tymoczko, and Stryer biochemistry textbook, if you're interested in a read!)
Omg thank you 😊 I’m definitely looking this up☝🏽❤️
That’s interesting, thanks for sharing
I think you're wrong. Regardless of whether lactic acid is predominantly in the form of lactic acid or lactate, the generation of lactate tends to acidify the medium since the pKa of lactic acid (pKa1 = 3.86 in aqueous solution) is much lower than the pKa of its substrate glucose/glycogen (pKa ≈ 12) (i.e., at any pH within physiological range the ratio of dissociated lactate to lactic acid is much greater than the ratio of deprotonated glucose to glucose). That's why the yogurt ferments turn milk (or whatever substrate you give them to ferment) into a more acidic product. The sugars (e.g., lactose) are taken from the medium to become substrates for glycolysis, and the resulting pyruvate + H+/pyruvic acid is turned into lactate + H+/lactic acid and pumped out of the cell (or released into the medium by diffusion):
Glc + 2 ADP + 2 Pi ⟶ 2 HLac + 2 ATP + 2 H20 (glucose fermentation)
2 ATP + 2 H2O ⟶ 2 ADP + 2 Pi (muscle contraction)
2 HLac ⇋ 2 Lac- + 2 H+ (medium acidification)
There isn't that much ATP stored in the muscles. After a couple of seconds or less, the consumption of ATP + Creatine-P will be compensated by the net synthesis of ATP from glycolysis. Otherwise, you'd run out of ATP + Creatine-P. Once the stationary state is reached, the primary source of acidifying products is the buildup of lactate (in anaerobic conditions, without the generation of lactate you would run out of NAD+ so glycolysis couldn't proceed any longer):
Glc + 2 NAD+ + 2 ADP + 2 Pi ⟶ 2 Pyr- + 2 H+ + 2 NADH + 2 H+ + 2 ATP + 2 H2O
2 Pyr- + 2 NADH + 2 H+ ⟶ 2 Lac- + 2 NAD+ (in the muscle)
A different story is whether the burning sensation that you feel in your muscles is the result of the acidification of the muscles, and whether other processes may be also contributing to the muscle acidification. ATP turnover isn't one of them.
Perhaps you mean during AEROBIC exercise, when there's little generation of lactate (because the end products of glycolysis and fatty acids become fully oxidised in the mitochondrion) and the ATP/ADP ratio may be kept shifted relative to resting conditions.
@@marujitadiaz9019 essentially what you're claiming though is that glucose/lactate is an acid/base reaction, while its a straight conversion. Glucose (pKa around 15) --> lactate (pKa around 4) involves the loss of an H+ in the form of inorganic phosphate (tribasic phosphate to dibasic phosphate). You're arguing about the pKa of lactic acid, but at cellular pH it is lactate, not its conjugate acid. "Tends to acidify the medium" doesn't hold up because the surrounding phosphate buffers the increase in H+ concentration. However, when enough ATP is converted to ADP, the concentration of dibasic phosphate is much, much greater, which is ultimately the source of the protons. While you can certainly draw a balanced reaction with no production of a proton in the conversion of glucose to lactate, you're entirely missing the kinetic component. The rate of the degradation of ATP far outpaces the rate of ATP generation, still leaving the free H+. While I do agree that pyr-->lac is necessary in anaerobic conditions, you cannot do long-term anaerobic exercise. The cellular concentrations of creatine-Pi are only roughly double the cellular concentration of ATP, aka, not that much (223 vs 446 mmol). When you're talking about the kind of exercise she's doing (more than a few minute sprint), it's far more likely that she's burning fatty acids, which muscles have a much higher concentration of (roughly 4,000,000 mmols). While it takes longer for this response to kick in, Swayze is talking about a 20-30 minute exercise. I've linked below a great paper that further summarizes this if you'd rather look at the primary literature's explanation rather than my own.
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15308499
All the best, I know this is a well-ingrained myth and it is deceptively easy to believe but unfortunately the biochemistry just does not point to lactate as the ultimate source of the increasing proton concentration.
Hello unnatural vegan! Love your videos! Can you make a video about kombucha and water kefir? Would be interesting
heipaadegduP i second this
I second this
I'd would love to see an in depth video on probiotic drinks and supplements in general and for her to shed light on existing research on human microbiota.
On the one hand, microbiomes are super fascinating. The very fact that we are hosts to vast unique, complex ecosystems with whom we depend on for immunologic, hormonal and metabolic homeostasis is as intriguing as it is humbling and since we still have so much to uncover in terms of identifying all these billions of bacteria and the roles they play, it makes for an exciting and relatively new area of medical research. On the other hand, products containing a couple of dozen different probiotic strains get touted as these wonderous cure-alls for everyone with very little scientific substantiation. People are going so far as to give themselves at home D.I.Y. fecal transplants in the hopes of curing everything from halitosis to autism to cancer.
Probably she would attack them, too. Western medicine is mostly profit driven, and prevention doesn't make money. Also, Kombucha and Water Kefir can't be patented, so there is no money in researching them, either.
heipaadegduP probiotics saved my life for a chronic health issue in my country we have a community of people who give out Kefir for free and they frown upon people who want to make money of that. It helped many people.
I am so excited that you made this video! I am a vegan, breastfeeding mom and I see other UA-camrs promoting this daily. I have been wondering about the claims, benefits, safety, etc. Thanks, UV!
And I'm def one of those people who gets anxious/ crazy feeling after one cup of coffee! I love the flavor though so I stick to 1/2c just because I like it!
Same here, go team Mommy Milk! I started mixing grounds half and half with decaf. Helped me a lot.
Coe, I have breastfed all four of my boys, including my identical twins! I just drink full caf, dark roast because that's what my husband likes and drinks a lot more than I do. Plus, we grind the beans fresh every day so grinding two diff varieties would be...too much work! Ha!
Fair point! My hubby doesn't drink coffee, so it's all me.
Marie Johnson
Just as a side note, you should probably not start a supplement if you are breastfeeding unless you find a claim that specifically states it safe for breastfeeding. Something's are safe for both the baby and mother to take orally, but dangerous for the baby if the mother takes while she is breastfeeding. Codeine is a good example of this. It's safe for both a baby and a mother to take orally, but it's not safe for a mother to breastfeed her baby while taking codeine. That's because codeine is not a drug, it's a prodrug, so it's the body that metabolizes codeine into the drug (morphine) which can then be passed to the baby in its drug form in the milk.
It seems like it would be easier to buy these mushrooms yourself online and then mix them with better coffee
Cheaper, too.
Yes and many of them (not reishi) are common in many parts of north america
Absolutely! I used to use Reishi powder. I may get back into it. Adding to my coffee would be easy enough. With a lot of these things you can buy the individual mushroom/herb cheaper than these fancy pants supplements.
@@jennoscura2381 But do you get the point of it being absolutely useless though? Why would you mix that shit into your coffee?
@@harrypoderskis2608 Did you actually watch the video? That is not the point at all, and she never mentioned mushrooms are useless. The point is that this company is claiming that there is extensive research, and is making claims on the health benefits, while there is not enough evidence to claim this with certainty. She even mentioned numerous interesting studies.
For a lot of people, the evidence that is currently available may be enough to try out what mushroom could do for their health, and maybe it works well for them.
It is crazy how so many vegan youtubers just promote what is sent to them without looking into the claims any further! Thank you for making this!
I mean, they are either being paid for it or at least getting free stuff so...
Yeah, I had to unsub from some I used to enjoy watching because they started selling stuff like FS in every video :/
She didn't do all that much research, either. Mushrooms have been used for their medicinal qualities for thousands of years. (See my post above for links.) That doesn't mean you should buy this particular product, but there are plenty of other ways to include mushrooms in your diet.
It's a mix of things.. I think most of them are so focused on the point it's vegan that they miss on quality reviews and misrepresent studies.
I work in a health food store chain that started with just a suppliment section. When we reccomend vitamins/minerals/herbs to customers we have to use something called "supportive language". For example we can say "melatonin helps support better sleep patterns" but can't say "melatonin will make you sleep better at night". That language is used to avoid sounding like we are prescribing customers medicine. Because we aren't doctors and we are selling vitamins and herbs lol.
I started using this instead of regular coffee about a year ago. I have never craved regular coffee since then. I don't buy lattes anymore and don't even think about coffee after my morning cup. It does wake you up. I love it.
Same it's awsome
Same. I use their protein powder as well and after consistently using it felt some much more energy and mental clarity
How does it taste?
just buy some wild foraged chaga. Way cheaper.
"hot cacao" i knew I was in for a pseudoscientific RIDE from the start omg
JLeigh1721 probably because cacao is the raw form and by making it “hot” it can no longer be considered raw/cacao. Just my guess.
Cacao is simply raw chocolate.
A. O'Connell Cacao is actually a less processed and heated form of cocoa. This, it contains about triple antioxidants and nutrients as cocoa. Truth.
@@JLeigh1721 for me it's that Portlandia skit, I can never take the word cacao seriously again. Probably unrelated tho 😂
Meh, the fair trade chocolatey powder thing I can get is cacao. I also like the extra anti oxidants and prefer the taste of that specific one.

The Seitan Recipe you’re better off making your own Seitan recipe or finding one online.... she obviously isn’t going to provide it. She’s seen your comment about 200 times and hasn’t once mentioned the recipe.
Maybe she'll post the recipe when you hit 1000 days. It's a nice, round number 🤗
lmao these comments never get old
Kimberlee Green I have a feeling she’s never gonna post it ... but that’s just me. There’s a chance her recipe wasn’t that amazing anyway (since none of us have tried it) so if you really want to try some good Seitan you’re better off looking up a recipe online instead of waiting for hers 🤷🏻♀️

Although you may be one of the only big vegan youtubers that will probably not be getting a sponsor ship deal with fraud sigmatic, your integrity and honesty is truly refreshing and immensely appreciate! I love this video and will be sharing it on all my social media. I was getting so annoyed and fed up with all these vegan youtubers who are so quick to criticize those who get brainwashed by non-vegan groups or companies, but who are really no better themselves. So, thank you sosososo much for not being a sucker and for not preaching bullshit on your channel!
LMAO FRAUD SIGMATIC I can't.
Did you try four sigmatic? It’s the highest quality coffee I’ve ever had. Flavorful (coffee, not mushroom flavor) and I felt great in the first week. It’s delicious and works.
4:45 I used to work in a health food store and according to the wellness reps there its because its illegal to make those claims on supplements as per the FDA
Does this rule apply to all states?
Yeah, you've got the right idea. In America, it's completely legal to make any supplement of any kind and as long as there is even a little bit of evidence, that I might do something, I can make any claim. For example if a study came out that said that blueberries might help improve the flow of blood in the brain by 0.5%. Well, then I can make a sugar supplement, add a little bit of blueberries in them and say, this is the "Great Memory Pill."
Also, if Swayze Unnatural Vegan, checked the back label of these supplements, they would all read "This product has not been evaluated by the FDA and is not to intended to treat, diagnose or cure any disease of any kind."
Tiffany Lyn 100% what I was going to say
I just used it today vs my regular coffee and I feel calmer and I dont have heart burn!
So works for me!
I love coffee but occasionally suffer from GERD and this really helped me.
Came out $1 a cup and doesn't even taste like mushrooms.
It's the chaga in it. Just but wild ground US or Canadian chaga. It's much cheaper.
I don’t know about memory or concentration but lions mane does create new neural pathways not as much as psilocybin mushrooms which are unfortunately illegal because of 60s anti hippie drug laws
I was just wondering about this because I've suddenly seen quite a few UA-camrs who suddenly are all about powdered mushrooms.
Trekkifulshay #sponsored lol
Julia B Yet many of them claim they've been drinking it for years and how convenient several other people all decided to tell the internet about it the same week.
Trekkifulshay yeah honestly, if their claims were true, why didn’t they mention it before? 🤔🤔
They're all about da money
Do essential oils too! (And/or spirulina and chlorella. Don't think that trend has died out yet :/)
Marianne that’s because all of those things are legitimately useful
@@cleopatrastarseed8558 I'm sorry but they're not. The worst example is spirulina whose fake B12 depletes your B12 storage - and it doesn't show up on the regular B12 blood test.
I’ve been taking spirulina everyday for the past two years and since then my health has improved significantly in a variety of ways... I guess it’s just the placebo effect again ?
Also essential oils have helped me with many things too. Lavender helps me relax and sleep at night. Peppermint helps me focus at work or school. Lemongrass helps me when I spend time outdoors to keep the bugs away and prevent bites. If I get a cut i used a diluted form of Tea Tree to disinfect.
Marianne Also, if you already seem to have your opinions made about essential oils and spirulina, then why are you asking her to make a video about them? Aren’t you just as capable of doing research as she is? Unnatural Vegan is cool and all but she has no degree in Nutrition, she’s just a UA-camr.
Trust yourself and your intuition and your research, don’t depend on others to provide you with answers.
I'm one of the people who gets super jittery after one cup of coffee.
I just bought it for its taste, it’s a good tasting coffee especially when used for espresso. All the micro-dosing benefits aside, it tastes great.
Spoiler alert, she didn’t try it by herself.
I bought this coffee and as expensive as it was, the blend tasted like coffee, not like mushroom. The energy I get from the morning blend is super for starting up in the mornings. I’m a daily coffee drinker and above all, your criticisms just demonstrate that you haven’t had the coffee. I made it half way through and didn’t hear anything about four sigmatic putting nutritionists and doctors at the forefront of specializing these recipes to optimize user benefits. I think you could get more information from talking with someone at the company and address these questions you have directly, you won’t be disappointed and may come to the mushroom side after all. Do it for your health! You deserve it.
I know sge sound like sge hasn't had the d in years kinda a whiny negative tone to her voice.uggh waaa waaa...it makes u feel amazing
Is there an hour long asmr video of swazzy saying "extensive research"?
I just love the fact that the ad that popped up during the video was for the EXACT THING your talking about. 🤣
I've played The Last of Us and no way am I ever going near Cordyceps Fungi in any form! ;)
I have a really hard time with the thought of consuming cordyceps myself thanks to that game (which is absolutely *brilliant* and one of my all-time faves).
HEY! 2 things I'd like to share here. 1. I have had a bit of a struggle with my coffee consumption before, although I drank it for years it would give my unpleasant side effects, at the same time it had become a strong habbit so couldn't break lose of it really. Then I heard of Four Sigmatic and gave it a try; for me it really solves the jitteries, stomache problems, and especially the after dip while also giving me a nice and smooth stimulating effect. (hard to say how much of it is due to the mashroom itself) 2. when you sign up to get a monthly pack (can always be cancelled or paused) it is only 16 euros - stillmore than regular coffe, but worth it for me. I am a fan. PS. Thanks for your scientific appraisal
I’m so excited you made this!!! I see this product promoted regularly and I’m glad you covered the topic. :)
I'm really glad this was recommended to me (even though I'm already subscribed to your channel) considering I had "reishi tea" on my grocery list as a result of watching MissFitAndNerdy talk about it. I appreciate what you do here on youtube and definitely look up to you as I'm hoping to delve much deeper into the science and evidence of health and wellness than the knowledge I have right now, which feels so minimal.
It only cost me $4.95 to try their Lion's Mane Elixir. I sent them an email letting them know it didn't do anything for me and they gave me a full refund on the elixir so my only expense was the $4.95 I paid for shipping.
I LOVE your videos and how much research that you do on all these topics!
YES! Clicked so fast, liked right away, and watched the ad all the way through. Thanks for this. 👍👍👍👍👍
A+++++ content. I love it when people like you actually look into things that are so popular and touted by well-known youtubers. I'm mostly appalled at the price of these things, especially considering all that you've said about the benefits not really being much of actual benefits at all. I was curious about Four Sigmatic before, but now I know I would never purchase from them, because I won't support companies that claim things that may not be true ("extensive research"). Side note: I looked at the ingredients a while back, and noticed they do use stevia in some of their drinks. I personally do not care for stevia, so hopefully other people are aware of this before purchasing.
I love the information you put out! Very straightforward and a lot of research resumed into great videos. Thank you!
Not a subscriber and wanted to get a review on this and you popped up. So glad you did. Incredible review. Very thorough. Thank you so much.
So you did a review without even tasting a coffee? Wow!
Yeah I was going to say ... putting on the professor cap without actually trying what you’re talking about.
Thanks for doing this video! I was honestly curious about these products.
I've been using their product for a number of years and am quite happy with it. I'm a huge believer in the health benefits of mushrooms and find that I stay quite healthy using these products. I also make my own mushroom tinctures. Worth trying.

Thank you for doing the research for us. I have been using these products, mostly for convenience when Im on the road, and haven't noticed any of the proclaimed effects. Good work.
When you zoomed in on extensive research I had to give a little chuckle. I love the effort you put into your research. This was very informative!
I feel the urge to clarify that if you want something to be less acidic the pH should be raised not lowered. If coffee haves a pH 5 it should be raised to 6 or higher for it to be less acid.
I don’t think she understands ph in the gut at all.
Thank you so much for this review!!!! it is refreshing to see an unbiased data based review for once. Also, I subscribed!!
I’m Chinese and I remember being fed cordyceps, mainly in soups (which are slow cooked for hours). I never knew exactly what they were until I discovered Four Sigmatic and heard cordyceps have become trendy in western alt med. What cordyceps are sounds gross but I must’ve developed a taste for them because I’ve always like them 🤷🏻♀️ They probably won’t give you wings but if y’all ever get a chance to try it, and you can get over yourselves, it might be a palatable new thing to try.
I haven't watched the video yet, but honestly I use just the reishi spores to help me sleep at night, and I really find it works. They give me crazy dreams though. Even if this is a placebo effect, I am okay with that. If $0.50 a day helps me sleep in any way, I will take it.
I will add that there products are very overpriced though
Miranda MacLeod i’ve been using reishi to help me sleep too, it seems to work for me as well
Interesting. I have pretty severe insomnia that’s thankfully being kept under control right now by other things, but I will definitely keep reishi in mind.
I wish the products were cheaper buuuut, I realize the work force behind specializing these brews and recipes, and testing every batch to make every batch the quality the customer depends on, it costs a lot.
@@calcm7496 As the comment is over a year old now, I can say with certainty Four Sigmatic is not at all worth the money you pay and you can get much better products from other companies. You are paying for the hype and pretty packaging

Dennis Amatium What makes you say that? I’m pretty sure that book is written by a well know vegan doctor. I think she would at least read it to point out anything she finds incorrect about it.
Dennis Amatium Well that was a lot lol I guess everyone should just do their own research after watching these types of videos to get the best results for themselves.
As far as her making fun of the companies claims I have to agree because there isn’t enough research to back up anything they claim and they are putting much lower doses in their products than what is used in the few experiments. I don’t doubt that they have good effects on health and the body but those are pretty radical claims.
Anyway, I will continue to watch her videos because I enjoy them and I don’t look at her as a scientist or a God but rather just another outlook on things.
Dennis Amatium You don’t have to be here buddy 😂 No one is forcing you to watch her videos and commenting with hate is just a waste of time really.
Why do you want her thoughts? She's not a doctor lol
Can you make a video about Medical Medium? It seems like drinking celery juice is the new thing among vegans
Eugh no thanks. I’ve had juices that have celery in them and all of them make me gag. I couldn’t imagine drinking it by itself.
@@mook_butt8037 Same :( I believe it's good especially if it's homegrown but the taste is horribleeeee
I spent $7 at a local health food store for a single packet of their hot cocoa, and it was soooo gross. I definitely have always assumed their health claims are largely bogus, but I at least expected it to taste good for the price! It tasted like dust and was pretty much void of chocolate or sugary flavour.
You have to prepare it with a cream like coconut milk or cashew milk and one packet only makes 4oz which is TINY. when i make it, i have to use 3 packets to 12oz of canned coconut milk T^T it's very pricey. i bought it to try out so i have to use it now. I really like the cinnamon kick to it but it doesn't actually help me sleep at all. Magnesium supplements to a better job at relaxing me than the reishi coco does.
I got a free sample of the cacao, and I totally agree, it was awful. I even added some mylk and sweetener, and that didn’t help.
You overpaid for sure! Most health food stores sell those packets for under $2, I get mine for literally under a dollar on sale
Nice video! I would really like to see you respond to the Monsanto lawsuit and glyphosate because I'm not sure how to respond to that as a pro-GMO vegan. Thanks!!
There's a chemist here on UA-cam named Myles Power that does a lot of debunking videos. He has a big series on GMOs with lots of great, simple information to pass along when someone asks you why you'd be pro-GMO. Not a vegan channel or anything, but great for us frustrated nerds.
Banning glyph will allow room for harsher chemicals in our food. Not a good move
Pro GMO? LMAO.
I know next to nothing but I met in person a group of women (mainly older women, mothers and grandmothers) in Argentina who were campaigning against Monsanto because insane amounts of people in their village had health issues they related directly to Monsanto. They wrote a letter to Obama and even got a letter back in which he basically said, "I can't do anything, they are untouchable." This is just my anecdotal first-hand experience. But I tend to be, obviously, very wary of Monsanto (which doesn't mean I'm necesarily anti-GMO). They seem to be a shady over-powerful corporation that have caused substantial ecological and human damage. I hope your investigations are fruitful. Share any stuff you learn. Thanks.
I like your videos. Thanks.
After reviewing a wide variety of these food based health videos, I agree with T Colin Campbell when saying that we shouldn't lose the big picture with reductionism, which is the focusing on single food items and single nutrients. We will never understand everything that works except the general patterns of eating. I won't be eating single food items for some specific benefit. Although I'll admit I do make sure I get a fair amount of all the basic nutrients and track it in cronometer, it's overkill and I need to worry less about it, eating a wide variety of whole plant foods of sufficient calories. There's a lot of money being made touting the health benefits of specific food items and of isolated concentrated nutrients like vitamins and other supplements. That said, I do think there's a wide variety of support for eating dark leafy greens daily and eat 5 ounces of spinach daily.
Going whole food-plant based, after 4 weeks my total serum cholesterol went from 190 to 131, and then at 17 months at 118. Further, my LDL went from 130 to 65 after 17 months, and my blood pressure is now normal as well as heart rate, off of the Atenolol I was taking. Lowering the serum cholesterol by making the radical change to my diet worked. Although it's not a miracle I get the same feeling as if it were. The risk of heart attack is virtually non-existent with an LDL at 65 and a total of below 140.
Wow! You put so much work and research into translating all of this information for us, something I just don't have the time (or the temperament) to do myself. As a fellow skeptic and fact-seeker... thanks!
Thank you! I was just about to buy a boatload of this and thought I'd do one more round of research. Much appreciated! :)
I love this type of video! I would love to see you talk about Kombucha because I tried it and also did a little bit of research and couldn’t find anything real to back up the claims.
As an RDN I absolutely LOVE your content. Please keep it up!
this was a very well-timed video! i just got into mushroom hunting and mushroom identification (although sadly at the end of the season)
Hey, there....how about a video about charcoal lemonade? I've been seeing that everywhere lately.
Love your approach and what i needed exactly when seaching topic ty
The word "support" is used to remain in compliance with the FDA. The FDA is very strict about the languaging supplement companies use in term of health claims in products.
We just grow our own mushrooms - Reishi, cordyceps, and lions mane. And we dehydrate and grind them up ourselves. Much cheaper and works just as well.
your glasses instill confidence and i like the words that come out of your mouth.
I really appreciate the work you put into this, I was actually considering trying it! I did do a multi mushroom supplement about 8 years ago and can't be sure it did anything.
I would recommend the morning blend 10/10. I feel there’s finally a product for me that the effects feel and taste like I’m paying for quality. I have tested out short term memberships with plenty of products that were just a big nope within 14 days I knew there was nothing magnificent.
I have crohns and so ive had to change alot. Ive noticed one thing im able to handle since my diagnosis is Arabica coffee/dark roast or french pressed. This stigmatic coffee i felt was about the same in a effect as that. I have seizures also so i did get the lionsmane kind but noticed no big effects from anything on the Neuro side from it. I love Paul Stamets and he has a website even doctors can use to check on what species of mushrooms have studies on what health reports have been done its quite impressive!
Hey! I know this video is a little older but I just wanted to pop in and say that companies generally use the words “support” because as a supplement, they’re legally not allowed to make any specific structure/function or disease claims (with a very small number of exceptions) so using words like that helps keep them legally compliant
Welllll after almost 20 years of drinking coffee I started getting sensitive to it and most of my anxiety and tight chest has gone away after quitting caffeine. I also noticed how caffeine caused my skin to break out on my face - so stress acne without feeling that stressed... because caffeine does increase the adrenaline production in the body. That's why you get the "kick" from it. And further explains why it started getting me anxiety and "jitters".
I actually was a skeptic but decided to buy the mushroom cacao with reishi and it actually has helped my anxiety a lot !
I almost bought some from their sale that theyre having.. but i cant get over the price
Local shop sells single packets so i want to taste it first
Great video!
What are your thoughts on Mud Water?
As someone with pretty bad GERD I wish someone could make coffee I could drink. I love coffee a few times a month but it makes me feel so ill.
Have you tried cold brew? It's allegedly about 67% less acidic than regular hot brew coffee. Not sure about it but something to try maybe if you really love coffee
Idk if you're near a location but 'Philz coffee' has really low acidity it's so good you can taste the difference. My boyfriend has herd and he can drink it. They do sell bags online but it's expensive
I just water mine down with unsweetened soy milk lol
I would assume caffeine free coffee may help too. I have a mental blank at the moment but there is also a tea beverage that tastes coffee-ish and i can't remember the name of it! Definitely health food stores have it. Potentially is a root of a herb.
@@azugirl111 cold is worse for me. Right now coffee gives me heart burn and palpitations so I'm avoiding it for a while
Good review. Thank you.
Love ur channel so much ❤️
girl u r so real thank u for your insight
I noticed that your coffee video isn’t up anymore. I’m guessing because there were some inaccuracies. Is there any chance you can update the video and add like regular vs decaf and/or coffee vs tea?
Hi, I recently became interested in limiting the effect of oxalates to avoid or diminish kidney stones. Any chance that you can do a video on the issue? Thanks
I second this, I've had kidney stones and was told to avoid foods high in oxalates, but I have no idea if it actually helps. I've also heard that high oxalates can be behind conditions like vulvodynia. It would be nice to hear her thoughts on it all.
...but did you physically try it?
Could you tell me your opinion on these Clinics that do the vitamin deficiency testing heavy metals etc? Is this all BS? I have a couple of autoimmune diseases and having trouble managing symptoms it has been suggested to go to a one of those wellness centers that specialize in holistic and naturopathic medicine. I know the first thing they do is labs looking for heavy metals and vitamin deficiency. Do you have any experience or an opinion on these types of places? A lot of people are now getting vitamin infusions etc... i know you’re obviously not a doctor just asking your opinion and or experience. Thank you!
I realize this is an older video at this point, but I'm at the part where you mention how they use the word "support" a lot. I watched a video recently on FDA guidelines and such for supplements and products of this nature, and I think legally they aren't allowed to say it "improves" or even "can improve" because there perhaps hasn't been enough medical research yet, or another reason. I can't remember exactly, but I think it was something along these lines :). I appreciate this video of yours so much, thank you!
Highly recommend going to Paul Stamets, the world leading mycologist, for the science behind these mushrooms rather than Four Sigmatic. He has his own brand Host Defense where you can get this stuff for a lot cheaper and he grows all his mushrooms in WA state so none of it comes frlm China who is dealing with lots of pollution problems. I've found Lions Mane to be very helpful for me, personally.
I never trust anyone who pushes four sigmatic
darzey why? :)
@@MrBlodhund Because of reasons specified in this video? Obviously if someone pushes this brand, they haven't done enough research to realise none of this drinks work. So, why would you trust someone like that. Plus, usually they are uneducated wannabe health "professionals" like Raw alignment.
I have tried Four Sigmatic (former Four Sigma Foods??) Reishi tea and I felt it was giving an effect, at first balancing cortisol levels. But I had to stop it, because after a while I felt too restless, I don't know why, maybe because of my cortisol levels rise?? But it had an impact.
Do a video on Dr. Mona Vand! Any of her videos- I would love to hear your thoughts on what she is putting out there.
THANK YOU. You’re the only girl I trust talking about these things.
Do you trust any boys about talking about these things
itsmyhannah never, Hannah

LMAO. Very silly comment.
The PH would vary depending upon the volume of water you use in your coffee. Thus a diluted solution.
True, but a side by side comparison of this coffee versus the mushroom coffee, using equal meassure of product, equal brewing method, and equal volume of water, would be in theory accurate. But which coffee? Different coffee has different pH levels anyway.
punkybrewstar83 maybe they could use a coffee of a similar roast to compare to. But then you'd have to figure out the average ph of that roast in other coffees. Then again the acidity concern is kind of ridiculous considering if you are avoiding coffee for its acidity (usually around 4.5 to 5) you also have to keep in mind lemonade and fruit juice and fruit in general is usually more acidic. Also, the presence of caffeine makes the coffee's ph read more basic slightly but makes the stomach produce more acid. The same is also true for milk.
Lauren Lewis Yeah- UV is just entertaining their reaching really- if you get heart-burn you should just cut out coffee- I've just accepted that my heartburn is in large part because I refuse to lol.
OMG!!! I never made the connection that Cordyceps is 冬蟲夏草(lit. Winter Bug Summer Grass) and is regarded as one of the few holy grails of traditional Chinese medicine!
And Lion's Maine is 猴頭菇(lit. Money Head Mushroom), weird that it's a different animal haha
Maitake is 舞茸 (lit. Dancing Mushroom, coz apparently it is slightly poisonous and make people dance).
I appreciate that you tell your viewers to check with their doctors for any medication interactions. Don't forget about pharmacists! 😃Pharmacists are also an amazing resource!
Just the phrase “mushroom coffee” was enough for me. Thank you, next!
I have admittedly fallen victim to the Four Sigmatic advertisement spree. I do enjoy their coffee. It seems like it has helped me focus w/o the jitters (because I am sensitive to caffeine). But maybe this is placebo? Anyway, mushrooms in general seem to be great for health. I don't have any research to present, but Joe Rogan had a "mushroom guy" on the podcast, and he presented a ton of interesting information. I don't like Joe Rogan, but this was definitely a great podcast.
yes Paul Stamets! he has some really awesome videos out there too- and an interesting look at WHY there isn't too much in the way of mushroom research!
M M honestly even if it’s just a placebo, as long as it appears to be helping that’s great !
I swear I read somewhere that research is being done into the placebo effect itself as a way of treating people for minor things. Like, even if someone KNOWS they're taking a placebo, they still improve.
That's way too expensive unless drinking it is also making you richer...
Why don't you like Joe Rogan? His interviews are always very interesting.
Love your approach, thank you. I can relate to you as a fellow vegan
Love ALL your videos
Can you do a video or let me know if Cymbiotika is worth it? Thanks!
I use cordyceps and reishi mushroom powder only for tea and in winter i go hunting for chaga in the woods here in germany ... it helps lots with my hormonal imbalance
I like how you emphasize it's expensive. A quick amazon search and I found a 10pk on amazon for $11 - that's about a dollar and change for each drink... cheaper than starbucks. I orderd it - and then found it on sale at my market for half off?! what? tastes really good. I would buy again for the flavor alone.
Is like food labels saying "supports the normal functioning of the immune system" there's certain wording they can use
Oh my gosh thank you for talking me back down off that ledge I was on the verge of buying some mushroom coffee! Lol.
but I never take into account with the monetary cost really is or how it compares over time to what I'm already doing considering what the benefits are. I mean if I had infinite money sure I would try it out invest in some I'm sure it doesn't hurt it probably even helps a little but does it help enough for me to invest this much in it right now when yes I need to remember there are bigger bills to pay I get caught up in the excitement so I really appreciate consistent reminder of the monetary cost. It seems like cost benefit analysis is all but a lost art these days but you nailed it on this review
My dad has been making tea with mushrooms for a few years, I’m not sure if it’s really beneficial. I let him do his thing as the mushrooms do have beneficial chemicals. Are chemicals from mushrooms “Phytochemicals” since they’re a fungus not a plant or are they a plant and I’m crazy dumb🤔?
Has there been anymore tests since this video 4 years ago?
Also worth noting, I definitely notice mania as essentially the primary effect of AMPAkines. Which cordyceps is one. Maybe mania is the 'energizing' effect lol. Even the mechanism for ketamine to treat depression is partly related to AMPA receptors. Enhancing them while decreasing NMDA activity.
Another note, ampakines can generate seizures, cause visual effects such as auras, and definitely would potentiate coffee in theory. I don't think the other mechanism you mentioned would do much honestly. But the AMPAkines effect may very well.
Thank you! This company has targeted all of my favorite youtubers. I don't know where to turn! I don't eat mushrooms everyday but I do understand that they have certain benefits that other veggies don't, at least that's what I think Dr. Greger said (I have no original thought or memory when it comes to health, I know). I think what I take away from this is to incorporate more mushrooms into your diet, drink plain black coffee without overdoing it and don't feel pressured into spending your money on something that you probably don't need.
So glad you did this video! Sitting through the BS is so important. I drink the Mushroom “Cacao” hot chocolate mainly just because I like the taste, and I’m definitely never expecting miraculous “results”, it just tastes good lol.
