I too pulled devices from my kids. iPads and video games. They still have computer access for school because they have a few tutors through zoom. And the change has been amazing! I read the book Glow Kids and 🤯
My kids are READING for fun. Like walking around with books in their face. They now each have a composition books because they are into writing books and stories. My 4 and 6 year old are even in the mix writing picture stories that they narrate to me. They play outside constantly. It’s been amazing and I don’t know if we will ever go back. There is definitely a process. At first, they were struggling. Everything was “boring”. They didn’t know how to entertain themselves without an iPad. But we’ve made it to the other side. It’s been 2 months and the best thing I’ve done.

I'm sure you will enjoy this time. I have a home where teenage girls live sometimes part time and some full time, but my rule is absolutely no phones or social media. When we watch a movie, we watch it all together. I made this rule 8 years ago and I have never regretted it. I wish parents would understand how dangerous social media, gaming, etc are for children and teenagers. Teenagers don't even realize what they are missing until they come stay at my house and find out that everyone talks and shares and plays games together. They help each other with school projects and studying. It's a lot of fun and they stop being depressed, oversensitive, and introverted.

I very much am inspired. Your video comes at a timely moment for me. My husband and I were just having a conversation about this very topic. I have two teenage boys and since getting a laptop for schooling purposes this year, we've seen a big increase in the negative attitudes, disrespect and neglect for any household responsibilities. We're watching these effects trickle down to our younger children and I personally feel like it's a fast slide to downhill if we can't nip it in the bud now. You're right to do a fast, that's the direction we're heading as well. We had a storm recently that left us without power/ Internet for nearly three days, and aside from being an inconvenience, it was so nice to see the children gathering together, getting creative with each other and the games they would play, mostly seeing my teenagers engaging and enjoying their younger siblings was great. With the biblical new year beginning, what better time to do a reset?! So thank you, I needed this!

We use e-book readers daily, as to cut cost on books for literature based curriculum. And they have typing course on my computer , as I think it is important to learn to type. And I have a phone to receive sms and check the map other than my work we don't use devices at all. We don't have a TV, I also not use social media. Rather go to a place then check it out online. Games we play at the kitchen table.
Intrestingly even my daughter has some brain damage from birth her attention span is bigger than children with similar condition due to not watching tv. (Says the development teacher)
Thank you for the coffee reference I did not realize I also doing a disservice to myself.

You definitely inspired me to do this too. We as adults have tried to leave our phones in kitchen and not use it on the weekends and its amazing.

How long have you been screen fasting?

It’s semi permanent. We’ve started to slowly get on when friends are over. Maybe 2 hours a week, but that’s it.
