Tried em all but it's the One Finger Grip all day. Puts my wrist in a better position that promotes more wrist mobility, thus, theoretically, more Snap. It also gives me smoother release, better distance, increased accuracy, and less wobble. The One Finger allows my wrist to cock back significantly more than any other grip. Again...more Snap. Being an ex baseball pitcher I thought for sure a 2 Finger would feel and work best, but I always come back to the One Finger. Everyones hands are a little different tho, so trying each til you find what feels, and works best is a must. Don't just try one throw and dismiss any of the grips. Try them all multiple times. I mean unless you feel completely comfortable with one of them from the start. Being comfortable with your grip, whether forehand or backhand, goes a long way towards bettering your game.
I am forehand dominant for max distance drives. 1 finger feels the most comfy for me I have a really hard time changing/trying new grips for forehand but always willing to try a new grip for back hand. My 1 finger grip is different than yours though I rest my middle finger on the bottom of the rim not tuck it like you showed in this video
OMG SOMEONE FINALLY THROWS FORARM LIKE ME. I cannot throw a backhand for my life but playing baseball for years I am comfortable with a 1 finger grip forarm although I struggle with aiming. My disc always falls to the left and rolls and good bit but I’m struggling to level it out
@@truestormy9150 I played a lot of baseball as well and I only threw sidearm. They used to call me the sidearm bandit lol. But I would consider my forehand throws 2x as accurate as my backhands
@@ApplesRgud my issue with backhand is I can’t find a grip I can release well. My backhands are horrendous. 40 foot shanks to the right. The disc always sticks to my fingers. I can only putt backhand
Havent seen anyone use my grip on youtube. 1 finger with the middle on the wing. I think this is a hand size thing but i get waaaay better release and nose angle that way. Been throwing it for my not quite full power shots for over 15 years and its oretty damn accurate. Get about 275 - 300 on it so its serviceable. You should give that ome a shot.
I do a one finger grip, but slightly modified from what you showed. I put my index finger inside the rim and my middle finger laying across the bottom of the wing
@@JustDisc I'm roughly 2 years into Disc with a baseball background and 1 finger has always been my go-to grip for distance power. Can regularly hit 400-450ft with my 13 speeds. However, I have a huge problem throwing mid ranges. My 1 finger grip seems to impart a LOT of off-axis torque to the disc and everything comes out super wobbly. Have recently swapped to fan grip for mids (Wasp/Malta) and its changed my game. Side note: for the high-speed forehanders out there.. try to get your hands on a Discraft Crush if you can find one. My absolute GOAT for 350-400ft shots.
I just recently started using a 3 finger grip for the forehand putts from crazy positions and have seen a crazy increase in consistency and accuracy for the putt level power shots.
I just now realized my grip changes for the situation... I've noticed that the forehand grip of others is like others holding a pencil, see? Beautiful Wraith by the way.
One of the reasons you guys are likely struggling with power and control with the 1 finger grip is you aren't pinching the disc properly. You seem to be trying tuck your middle finger. That's ok with a slower disc but for faster discs your going to struggle to generate enough power. What you should try doing is pinching the rim between your middle finger and thumb. You shouldn't even require your index finger on the disc at all to aim, it's only really there to generate power. This allows you to more directly put the power through the rim of the disc and it helps keep flutter to a minimum out of the hand. Good to see locals putting out content though! If you're playing winter farms next weekend good luck!
Thanks for creating the overview. I do a version of the stacked except my fingerprints never press against the underside of the disc, fingerprint of my middle finger presses against the inside of the rim and my forefinger is slightly on the back of my middle finger
Great Vid as always. Began DG throwing exclusively FH split finger. I have more of a balanced game now, but my split finger forehand still outdoes my BH at around 425-450 max bomb. Def my preferred grip for drives, but I do mix in others on upshots.
Good to know! I still have some more practice to do with the split finger grip. I do get more power, but I sometimes release too far to the left, so I’m trying to adjust. Hopefully some more practice will fix this 🤞If not, back to the super finger! 😝
Been using the super finger without knowing it was a thing. It just felt best when I put my fingers that way and was able to throw it far and accurate lol
i just started playing basically.. i only use the forehand throw.. didn't know anything about other grips but just started day one using the one finger grip the whole time cause it just feels more natural to me.. but im going to start using one or 2 grips you showed and see if i notice a difference practicing in the backyard.. the one you call super finger feels ok to try..
Andrew Marwede is one of the best forehanders in the world and uses the 1 finger grip. I've noticed that most old school disc golfers laugh at the 1 finger grip and also can't break 250 feet with their forehand. The angle control comes from a tight grip. It's the most natural way to throw imo.
Do whatever works best for you, as the video states 👍. The split finger grip gets me up to 375ft, and the super finger finger around 350ft. We get that Andrew Marewede uses 1 finger and has a solid forehand, so he’s the exception. But how many tournaments has he won compared to those with 2 fingers? Until he shows some solid results, we’d rather follow those who’ve had excellent success using 2 fingers. It also just makes more sense to have more contact with the disc. But again, if it works for you, great! Keep it up 👍

I have small ish hands I prefer the two finger but I also put my ring finger on the flat part of the rim, im able to get smoother releases with little to no wobble
I did the one finger grip for a while because my friend who got me into disc golf (who is sadly passed away now) used to do it that way and he was able to fling it like crazy, going far and usually well aimed to boot. He would also crouch super low to the ground right before the snap, sometimes almost doing a split. The disc would start out almost hitting the ground but then would lift up high like the air underneath the disc was pushing it up. Honestly, I still don't know how in the world he was able to make the disc do what it did when he used his technique but it sure worked for him XD really miss playing with him.
Sorry to hear of his passing. Some people swear by their 1 finger grip, and there’s nothing wrong with that! Whatever works best for you is what I always say 👍
I have bursitis in both shoulders from being a pitcher in HS. So I use a forehand primarily. I use 3 fingers and avoid serving the pizza. I thought I was doing ok, as I just had my first below-par game. Then I saw this video. Am I crazy for using 3 fingers?
"Monkey Paw" no fingers used only the thumb and the knuckle of the pointer finger. Super clean release, helps make adjustments to bad releases, and gets pretty good distance.

Well, I taught a lot of my playing partners some of the grips and they did give me some feedback. But yes, the majority of the information/testing comes from me 👍
The main issue I’ve seen with the two finger and the split grips are you get a lot more wobble because you’re imparting too much force in the off-axis direction (up into the flight plate instead of the side of the rim). You showed a lot of clips trying those grips with stable discs. Have you experimented with anything flippy? I would bet you have far less success with some of those grips when using less stable discs.
I hate the "power" grip. I always felt like it just added an extra contact point that didn't need to be there. I'm pretty much exclusivley stacked except for with a floaty putter. My best advice is don't use any grip that puts the pads of your fingertips on the flight plate except for when throwing floaty putters FH.
I would early release every time if I used less than 3 stacked fingers. Max power, Max spin, max control, comfiest arm and wrist angle. I think people can use 1 or 2 cuz they have no power.
@@JustDisc Yea I've always used a stacked grip for forehands... I was just picturing someone throwing the disc with their pinky and ring finger or something ridiculous haha
