I like that casual Ace with the Firebird
Lol thanks 👍
That’s when I stopped to
check comments haha
What an excellent throw that was!
I have a 150g firebird that just goes forever
@@maestro48239 is it still in the air?
I played Disc Golf for the first time this past weekend and had a ton of fun and now I'm completely invested.
Welcome to disc golf Josh, and JustDisc! 👍
Subbed that was solid info for newer players.

Thanks Matt, we love that this video has proven to be helpful to you and your friends! 👍❤️
Very well done presentation. Thanks!
Best description I’ve heard for beginners. Everyone else I watch can’t explain it in a way that makes sense to a newbie. Thanks bro
That’s always what we try to do best, keep things clear and easy to understand.
We are happy you got something out of it! Thanks for the comment Allen 👍
Looks like the Paris, Ont., course? Great advice.
THANK YOU for putting this content together! As a beginner, it helps to navigate the ratings of discs!

What the actual hell was that tasty ass forehand shot at 6:20?! Why aren't more people just freaking out about it?
I have been playing for a while but just started to get really into it, and seeing this vid helps so much more when understanding which disc to throw on the angle that you need to throw! Tysm for the help!

You're so welcome Ben! 👍
Great video. Wonderful explanation.
Thanks Jody, we appreciate it! If you are new, welcome to JustDisc! 🙌
Thank you from a beginner for this. : )
Great video! Very concise explanations for every definition. I’m still confused as to why understable discs are recommended for beginners? Why not discs like the Maco that just flys straight? Why would I want a disc that banks right like an understable?
Thank you Jake, and good question! Newer players have a lot of difficulty throwing the disc flat and usually have poor form. The throw is a lot different than just throwing a frisbee. This often results in the disc fading early to the left if throwing RHBH. So to counteract their poor form and allow them to get some distance, a disc with more turn is very helpful, especially with faster discs. But the Mako3 is highly recommended for a first time disc because it's very neutral and allows new players to learn proper form. Anyways, we hope we've answered your question! If you have any more, feel free to ask!
Casual ace at 6:25, sick! Haha Thank you!
Jade was the best disk to start with for more me. When I found it things started working better
It’s a great disc!
Great breakdown!
Useful - thanks!👍🏻
Great video thanks!
i found an innova beast and it’s been my favorite driver. idk what it is but i can throw it super straight with a nice fade at the end
Yeah it’s a great neutral disc! 👍
@@JustDisc this was a little over a month ago when I started, the beast turns over into rollers for me now, but still one of my favorites
Best explanation out there
Dang, was that a hole in one at minute 6:19? Nice shot!

Great video, thanks for the help and tips.
David Tirado My pleasure!
@@JustDisc there seems to be a new number after the fade which is highlighted on newer discs, any idea what that new number is? An example is, i saw a new Raptor and I see the speed, glide, turn, fade and a new number? Any explanation would be great.
@@davidtirado6624 It’s basically their old school stability rating. It goes from 0-3 to tell you how stable the disc is (ex - 3 being very overstable meaning it will strongly fade to the left if throwing RHBH. So you can use it or ignore it and stick to the 4 numbers. Hope this helps!
Love seeing this video and seeing Paris course and Christie lake 😊
Both great courses in southern Ontario 👌
Wow this video was incredibly well out together and resourceful thanks!
Minor criticism. The new topic/ bullet point in the lower left was (imo) a tad too lower left. Bringing it in screen just a touch more would make it more noticeable
Hey Josh! Thank you very much for the compliment ❤️ If you are new here, welcome to JustDisc! 🙌
And thank you for the suggestion! If you end up watching some of our newer videos from this past year (2021-2022), you’ll be able to see some big improvements!
Thanks again for watching 👍
Great explanation.
Thanks Nicholas and if you are new to JustDisc, bienvenue! 👍
Great video and info!! I have a question for you! I throw forehand. Are high fade discs always what I should throw for those side arm forehands across the body like how the firebird was used?
Thanks for the question! No actually, you don’t necessarily need high fade discs for sidearms. I would say a disc with a bit of fade does help, but it also just depends on your control, your skill level and the shot required. I actually throw the Mako3 and Dart for straight sidearm shots, but it takes a lot of touch and I don’t use them for distance. If however I need to get some good snap for extra disc distance, I use want a disc with a bit more fade. Hope this helps! 👍
Very informative thanks for that peace
No problem, thanks for getting informed 👍
Thank you. I love the game. I have quite a lot to learn
Anytime Bloom! We have many more informative videos to get you started 👍 Enjoy and welcome to JustDisc! 👍❤️
Great video!
Love the Mako3. Great Disc
The best!
6:18 damn that shot though
Yeah that was insane!
Casual felx at 6:19 love it
great explanation
Thank you! 👍
This would have been useful to know the first time my wife and I played and we rented discs. Turn and hook to the left no matter what we did. Very discouraging considering how easy it is to throw a plain Frisbee. Thanks for the info I am interested in trying again with something I can throw. Looks like a fun game.
Welcome to disc golf and JustDisc Chris! If you have any questions, we are always here to help!
The video make a better explanations of disc and the ratings on the discs
thank you
I have been playing casually for about 5 years and this is the first time I have ever understood a flight rating explanation!
Thank you so much Jeffery, we love hearing this feedback! ❤️
@@JustDisc 3 years for me
Great video
im proud that as a beginner, i started with yanking speed 14 discs. Slowly but surely i work myself down the speed classes and slowly getting more technical, after a year now, i started throwing putters and midranges, and i can bomb pretty good distance with my high speed discs and i am starting to get 180 - 200 feet with putters now :D my strongest part of my game is distance, owing to the fact i started with high speed discs.
Yes - totally against what any1 would recommend, but i enjoy developing myself this way. This off season im gonna go hard on putt and approach, and i expect to become better that way :D
At least you’ve figured things out! I started with the Boss and things worked out alright lol.
@@JustDisc in my opinion the most important thing is to properly understand physics of flight and the flight numbers...and release angles. Then just work on it! For me, as u can imagine, i started off with anhyzer flex to get that distance!
my very first throw while playing with my friend's spare disc.
i decided to try to throw towards the basket, pretty hard.
it went up, IMMEDIATELY hooked left, and went 10 feet into the lake.
it was shallow so we could get it, and got a free disc someone abandoned (which was then mine to use) so it worked out ok.
Great story! Many new players can relate lol. Glad you got a free disc though! 👍
Great video. Just lost my trusty Star Destroyer and must find another... also been out of the game for 7 yrs. lots of new stuff to choose from. I’m strong and throw heavy disks.
Nice to see you back at it! Definitely lots to choose from. If you need any help or suggestions, feel free to ask!
Good video 👍
Thanks Marty Boi!
This was really informative, thank you for this. Quick question. I have a shoulder injury which requires me to drive and take some mid range shots right hand forehand. How would driving a forehand affect my interpretation of the information in this video? Thank you for your time
Thank you! If throwing forehand, everything is simply reversed (i.e. fade goes right and the turn goes left). Hope this helps answer your question! 👍
Merci!
Bienvenue Lars!
Quick question: When you were talking about turn and fade, would those directions be opposite for a left-handed thrower? Instead of the tendency to turn right (as shown in the example with right hand throw), would it have a tendency to turn left for a left hand throw, and same for fade?
Everything is opposite. So this video was discussed in RHBH but also LHFH. Vice versa applies
Heille... C'est un salut en québécois ça, au début !! Cool... Salut Man !
Ohn Scoggins needs to see this and study
Left handed back hand here, anything you would recommend that turns or fades left for me without having to switch to a forehand? My go to back have right now is a lat 64 river for straight/ slight fade right if that treks you my site abilities.
Thanks for asking! What kind of speed are you looking for? Midrange, fairway or distance driver?
I’m new to disc golf. How would a left handed (back hand) throw change anything? I haven’t bought disc yet and wanted to know what would be best for me.
Everything is simply reversed, that’s it! 👍
At the beginning you mentioned this applies to right handed throws. Is everything just reversed for us lefties or does a disc fly differently spinning counter-clockwise vs. clockwise?
Very good question! Honestly, it’s all the same, just reversed!
Any idea if there is a driver any kind with 0 fade and 0 turn? Which was the disc you highlighted with those stats? Thanks
Hi thanks for the question! There is actually no disc driver that I know of with a 0 turn and 0 fade. However, you can find drivers with a pretty good balance of fade and turn. Take for instance, the Shryke or the Mystere. Hope this helps!
I'm guessing the remarks about beginners with speed is why most starter packs only have a fairway driver instead of a distance driver?
You got it Elessa!
Can you post a link of the Innova Disc chart you have at 2:33? Thanks!
I added some links to a few different charts in the description. Hope this helps!
That’s me at the disc golf store! lols 6:41
Why’s there 3 different types?
Flying wings are the way I describe disc fight. Flight on a wing is from the air going slower over the top than the bottom. That drag pulls the wing up and that's how birds and planes fly. A putter is like an old biplane and a fast speed driver is like a delta wing jet fighter. The putter has a more extreme curve on the wing and thus needs less air speed to generate the same amount of lift that a driver needs at higher speeds. That’s why discs will turn over when thrown too hard, because the lift is too great, and the top of the wing is lifting so much it turns the disc over top side. On the other hand, if there isn’t enough air going over the top of the disc (wing), like it isn’t throw hard enough, then it drops out of the air due to lack of lift.
Wind is also a big factor. Wind can add lift - when it is head on it adds more lift, because there is more air over the wing. It can take lift away - when it is at your back, because it is a minus to air flow over the wing and decreases the lift.
Great way of looking at disc flight Redberd! 👌
guy looks like Vinny from Jersey Shore... lol Great Video btw
So forehand makes your frisbee spin the other way which causes it to have a mirrored flight pattern, correct? Because mine seem to “fade” right at the end, not left, but I only throw forehand when I drive.
You are correct Jake! A fade RHBH throw would finish to the left and a fade RHFH would finish to the right. Hope this helps! 👍
Marshall St baby!
When you say the "higher the negative number" you mean lower, right? As in a low turn of -5 will be more understable so it will go more right when thrown correctly. Right?
I just got a Star Mamba recently and I've gotten to where I can make it perfectly hug a hard left with my forehand, like it should be on Tokyo Drift. I wish I could get the flight on video, it's so sick what that disc can do.
It's a great disc for so many reasons, especially in premium plastics. My friend adores his Mamba and it is his go-to distance driver. Since the disc is pretty understable, he loves to hyzer flip it!
@@JustDisc it got me back into playing after mostly quitting for a couple years, I've been excited to play again after getting that, along with several other new discs and I'm already back shooting under par after just about a month and a half. I'm going to have to get a couple extras to make sure I don't end up losing it and then not playing because of it.
Was that the Paris skate park at 1:43
Yes it is! It's our hometown course :)
Good info, but how were the number scales originally determined? And how are hey measured for a new disc design? Wind tunnel/robotic arm? They seem so arbitrary. I see a speed 14 has the max wing width allowed by PDGA, but why 14 and not say 10 or 15? And it seems like there are no physical constraints on the other metrics- like is it even physically possible to have a glide of 8? Or a turn of +2? This has bugged me for so long...
You know, you have some excellent questions. It’s funny how we understand and use this flight system, yet nobody understands why or how the values were determined. I wish I had answers for you but it’s definitely something I’d like to find out! I’m sure speaking to Innova’s manufacturing disc team would help clarify that
People don't realize that the flight numbers are for a disc that is broken in. You can actually add a positive number to the high speed turn until you do.
Question please: For choosing the type of plastic, he says it effects the flight. Does that mean the 3 Tee Birds he looked at have different flight ratings, because they are made of different plastics or that the type of plastic is another factor of the flight path? thanks
Hey thanks for the question! All 3 teebirds have the same flight rating, so the plastic is another factor of the flight path. Basically, the cheaper the plastic, the less stable the disc (meaning it will turn more to the right). Hope this helps! 👍
@@JustDisc ... and so cheaper plastic means cheaper price, yes? Are most models of popular discs available in different plastics and in general if any disc is lower in price, would that mean it is made from cheaper plastic? Thanks so much for your feedback. I shared your vid with my beginner friends. :)
@@ulticraig5237 No problem and thanks for sharing the video! All we want is for people to better understand the game 👍
-But yes, a cheaper plastic will mean cheaper prices. It’s not too much, usually between 5-10 dollars.
-Most popular models are available in different plastics, but not all!
-And I would say that most discs that are cheaper are made from cheaper plastics, but it’s not always the case.
And just so you know, a cheaper plastic doesn’t mean it’s a worse disc. The cheaper plastics usually have more grip, and they also break-in easier. The downside is they don’t maintain the same flight path for long and they wear quicker
Is the turn and fade left vs right rated for backhand throwing and therefore would be reveresed for forehand???
Yessir! For RHFH, fade would you right and then would be left. Backhand would be the opposite 👍
@@JustDisc dude thanks so much for replying to comments on a 3 year old video 😅 I've watched this video 3 times in a row while looking at the discs I have. I've played casually for like 20 years and have never understood the numbers. Been playing a ton lately for the exercise and actually want to be good now 😁
@emericaman16 anytime buddy! We do what we can and try to reply as much as possible 🙌
Dang! I should've watched this before I bought a Corvette! lol
Hahahaha it’s ok, we’ve all done it! Still doesn’t mean you can’t get any use out of it 👍
Thanks mans! Can you please make a video about LEFT handed people tips and tricks ect.
Thanks for the input! What kind of lefty video are you looking for?
@@JustDisc all the above. I'm a lefty too.
Altitude also has huge impact on disc stability.
Very true! Thanks 👍
I cant wait until I can throw good enough to apply these. Right now I can throw same disc twice and it will act completely different both times. I'm really trying to work on my form but cant figure out what I'm doing wrong. Very frustrating!
Don’t get too frustrated! Try to player with better players if possible to help you get better quicker.
Also, watch UA-cam videos and don’t be afraid to ask us or anyone else for help :)
@JustDisc update: just parred/birdied all 18 holes at my local course for the 1st time!! So happy I stuck with it!
I'm what i'd considered an intermediate-ish player and I throw a Champion Boss ~ 300 ft. What I don't get is how people are throwing a 9 speed Firebird 350+. If I put power in a 9 speed it turns over immediately
One big reason could be that they are Hyzer-Flipping their discs. Hyzer flipping since the early 90's has been recognized as the better way to get maximum distance. Check out our hyzer-flip video if you haven't already! ua-cam.com/video/fL09kI3gWec/v-deo.html
Where can I find that chart??? 2:29
I added some links to a few different charts in the description. Hope this helps!
Question for advanced players. If you could only have four Innova discs, which ones would you use and why?
Aviar, Toro, Teebird, Wraith 👍 The why can be found in our videos 🤪
The number system is also a great way to make people bye more disks ;-)
You are definitely correct! Easy to fall into the trap of thinking you need a disc for every speed 😜
To my understanding. If a disc rating is assuming a RHBH, for a RHFH, just mirror the RHBH’s flightpath?
Exactly! :)
Okay. Answer me this: no matter what disc I throw, it goes only 200 feet. I even had a Blizzard Beast at 138g that couldn't pass 250' with a tailwind.
It most likely has to do with your nose angle. You are most likely releasing yours discs all with a “nose-up” angle. Watch this video for some more clarification 👍 - ua-cam.com/video/n6Lt_uDiQ5Y/v-deo.html
