In this video I make a bump centering tool to be used to repair a lathe spindle. They are also very useful when centering stock in a lathe. Thanks for watching!
I watched the Wachovia spindle repair vid. first…. so had to come back to this one to see what a ‘bump tool’ is. Good solution, and we’ll executed without a milling machine. What breed of lathe is that you used? I’ve got a ( heavily modified) Hafco 960B that I acquired almost new in about 2000.
Thank you.I´l like to see how you use it. I keep practicing on my D-bit tool sharpener.I loved the video that you made on sharperning twist drill bits. Now could you provide further information on the plates that you made for the attachment or do you think is it is not worth the effort as other people think?.I´l appreciate your opinion.Thank you .Merry Christmas.

Lathe is AL1000 bigger cousin of the 960b. The 960b is definitely a nice lathe.
You might consider showing how the tool is used. I have not seen many use this tool to align material on the interwebs...
Will be used in the next video for a lathe spindle repair but not for aligning work.
@@ProjectsDownUnder Thanks, looking forward to it !
I see heat treatment bluing on the bearing end. What materials stock did you use and reason for heat treatment?
The shaft was a bit tight so I heated the steel up of camera to get it to go in easier. Steel is 1045
Errrr ‘Wabeco’…. 🤢 must be my fat fingers 🤣
Regards
Robert
good work, i suggest you to make yourself a hydro press in the near future, it's more confortable that way (the bearings)
Yes, I really need to get one or make one.
Thank you.I´l like to see how you use it.

Technically you don't need to make the plates but they are helpful. They are approximately 6.5mm, 9mm and 12mm long from the mounting hole.
@@ProjectsDownUnder Thank you Sir.I´l do.
