  • Back from dinner and the swimming pool, we went into some evening and night spotting from the Renaissance Concourse Hotel at Atlanta's Hartsfield Airport (ATL). This was the first part of a trip to Montego Bay, Jamaica for a family Christmas trip and we built the stay into our trip down, which made for a great afternoon and evening of spotting from the avgeek-famous hotel adjacent to ATL's north runways.
Thanks for your support thus far; I'm stunned at the response to the ATL-CMH flight from March 2001 and Part 1 of this video, which blew the doors off anything else I've posted so far. I have another dozen or so videos of various lengths and origins which will be added in the coming months as I have time to digitize them.
Bonus points if you get the music reference in the title beyond the literal sense of the fact that it was raining and nighttime in Georgia. Seems like SiriusXM is always playing that song.

Great videos and great job with the "written narration." Love staying at the RenCon too. Brings back wonderful memories of working for the Big D in those days.

I appreciate the feedback on the captions! I've considered going into narration on some future videos but I'm glad the text format is well received.

Love everything about this. My absolute earliest flight memories consisted of me flying in and out of Atlanta on Deltaflot Md-80’s in the 2000’s and this really takes me back.

This is awesome, I work for Delta and it's incredible to think I still work in and around some of the planes at the start of the video. N6703D & N683DA were both at my home station FLL just yesterday.

Good to see those 727-200's in the fleet at this time period. I believe Delta also received 727's with their Northeast merger in the early 1970's. My very first flight was on a Delta 727-200 from JFK to MIA way back in February 1976. This first flight got me hooked on airplanes and Delta. Great to see part 2. Thanks for posting.

They did, though I'm not sure any of those were still in the fleet at this point. It's interesting to see the lineage of their 727s. I know they had at least one or two from Eastern.

I know this was 2001, but seeing these old videos and photos makes me realize how much I miss liveries like the Delta 80s widget (on the first 757, the 727, the 767 that was landing), the United Saul Bass white with orange/blue stripe and the tulip, etc. Just like every aircraft now has twin wing-mounted engines and conventional tails, the liveries aren't as interesting or diverse as they used to be.

It's certainly gotten more and more bland. At least there's UA-cam!

Those 757,s are sweet. Beter than live.

Excellent footage as always. Hot take: I think the pre-1997 delta livery looks terrible compared to every one since

I didn't mind it and still like the look, but can see how it's not the most popular.

1:40 so that was the same plane as FedEx 80? Damn.
