I have several 8BitDo controllers. I've got one wireless one for my phone, one wireless one for my Firestick that has retro games on it, one for my gaming laptop, 2 wired ones for my Raspberry Pi 4 plugged into the USB ports, etc! Love the Nintendo Wavebird! Signal was so strong! I could be outside in the middle of the yard laying in a lawn chair while looking through the living room window controlling my character while getting my tan on!
for me personally , nothing tops the DualShock 2 , i still have one and it still works and the analog sticks are the perfect amount of grip and feel for me
Yeah i think all 3 dualshock controllers were great. They were always some of my favorite controllers.. that may be why I like the 8bitdo Pro 2 so much, as its fairly similar, just more SNES style tho.
I'm so ready for the Retro-Bit Big Six Genesis controller. They are suppose to be shipping them out this month! I wanna use it for playing Fightcade for Street Fighter 3rd Strike on the PC and my Genesis. It's gonna be awesome! Great video man.
I've been waiting for that guy too. I haven't touched a 3 button in that form factor in forever, but the Big6 looks more comfortable than the normal 6 button.
Retrobit makes great controllers for the Sega consoles. Personally on the NES and SNES I'll take the 8-Bitdo receiver and connect the Switch classic controllers from Nintendo Online and use those since they sync up fine and feel more authentic over the actual 8-Bitdo ones. Great video! I'd like so see more of these.
It's interesting to see all the cool different controllers other than first party, I always personally just use first party but it's neat to see your preferences if I were to dive into that!
For me, the Pro 2 is my Go to as I like to say. It's the most versatile controller I have ever used. I mainly use it for playing my collection emulated on my smart phone. I've tested many controllers and the Bluetooth on is on point.
The 8-BitDo arcade stick is fantastic, I replaced the buttons and stick and use it on pretty much every platform now thanks to Brook's range of Wingman adaptors. I also have a Retro-bit 2.4ghz Saturn controller, but it's not quite as nice as a real Japanese Saturn pad from the 90s.

Pro 2 has been the best so far, BY FAR. It feels great, works great, has zero lag, and I LOVE the profile function. I have a standard layout for SNES style controls, of course, and a “rotated” layout for 8 bit (NES, genesis, etc), and a mirrored mode for Neo geo. No more dealing with in-game configs. The mode switch on back is nice, but I really only use X input so maybe I’m just not the market. I also got an “ultimate” and ended up sending it back. Main issue: it doesn’t connect to some devices in 2.4 GHz mode, especially my MiSTer, and if it can’t connect to that, it’s out.
Nice vid, love seeing all the variety available. I bought a Gamesir G7 wired controller for my Series X (also works on PC) and holy hell, I love that thing. Awesome buttons, great texture on the grips, and sooo much more comfortable for my big ass hands than the stock Series X controller. Best controller I’ve ever had
I have all my consoles (24 of them) with wireless controllers. To always have them charged and ready to use, I use a 3 charging hub with 10 USB outputs and cables with magnetic connectors purchased from Aliexpress. I've been using this system for years and it works great for me.
My favorite is my 8BitDo SN30 Pro wired USB controller, I mainly use it for PC gaming. I have two of them, they're the purple/gray version that 8BitDo discontinued (because of Nintendo most likely).
I have my own little selection. I have a Mayflash arcade stick for my Arcade and Fighting game needs. I have a wired 360 controller for Steam and most of my emulation. For Saturn and Genesis emulation I used a replica of the Saturn controller, and for Gamecube emulation, I bought a Gamecube style Switch controller. Man, I forgot how comfy that Gamecube setup feels.
For me I use the following: 1) SNES Classic controller with Mayflash USB adapter for most NES and SNES games 2) Wii Classic controller with Mayflash USB adapter for fast action NES and SNES games like Ninja Gaiden 3) Retrobit 8 button Genesis controller for Genesis games 4) Mayflash arcade stick for certain MAME games
Would be nice, but as far as sponsorships only thing I would do is accept review products and not money to make videos. 8bitdo has never sent me things in the past, I just like a lot of there controllers.
The best looking controller is the best one. Great. I was on a manhunt for that purple control. Great video thanks for your honest and diverse opinion. Its appreciated.
Is that a Saturn controller with two analogs in the shelf? 👀 I've heard Retro-bit would be releasing it. When will we get an review? Nice controllers, Ron! 🍻
I love retro controllers, I have several here in my humble collection, I'd like to have more, but as I live in Brazil, even importing these days is getting more complicated. I loved the translucent red Mega Drive controller, it's so beautiful, I just couldn't see which manufacturer it was, as it's new to me. I have a Gamesir Kailed controller here, I love it, it has a great grip and works on several systems, I have some from 8BidDo and some from older consoles, like Wii, PS1 and PS2. Little by little I'm adding to my collection, there's a Gamecube Bluetooth controller I bought a few days ago, as I don't have the console, this version is the most suitable, I watched some videos and they really praised its buttons, analogs and dpad, so it's become a new target. Nice collection, congratulations.
Damn dude Ron has more Switch, Xbox and pc controllers than my 2 local gamestops near me lol 😆 I know what you mean about the N64 controller I still have 3 of the original and love them when I play on my N64 still! The switch pro is awesome and feels like an Xbox one controller to me. The snes 8 bit does are more comfy than the pro and standard Xbox ones I admit. Nice video.
I do wish more controllers used the Wii U Pro Controller Layout. That Should have become Nintendo's default layout. Then All 3 Console Manufactures would have Their Own layouts.
Update: I ordered the RetroFighter Brawl (Sega design) and the RetroBit Saturn Pad with analog got finally after years an update. Looking good for them to be the ultimate Retro Pad. My wish is one controller for almost everything. - 6 Face Buttons for fighting games - Sega D- Pad also for fighting games - Analog Stick for Nights and some other Saturn/ PS1/ N64 Games - analog L and R Triggers So Sega, please give us the Saturn 3D Pad for PC/ Switch.
PC: Logitech G815, Logitech Superlight w/Powerplay pad, XBOX One 20th Anniversary controllers (NICE D-Pad), 8bitdo Pro 2 for 8/16-bit style games and emulators, Retro-bit Sega 6 button, 8bitdo arcade stick, Wiimotes/nunckuck, Wavebirds, Wii U Pro, Switch Pro (what haven't I used?) SNES/NES Classic: Wii U Pro controllers with 8bitdo wireless adapters Sega Genesis Mini 1st gen: Retro-bit 6 button (need to get wireless ones) GameCube: Well once the bluetooth controller port panel comes it, 8bitdo Pro2 for GBA Player (I'm thinking it will use the Dinput Switch?) otherwise the Old Skool (meh), 4x Wavebirds Switch: Official Switch Pro controllers, 8bitdo for NES/SNES and other 8/16 bit games, Retro Fighters wireless for N64
You're totally on point with the 8bitdo M30 having a creaky d-pad after a while. Another issue I've had with the 8bitdo N30 NES controller is that the button membranes fail pretty quickly. Especially, if you're playing a lot of action games where you are rapidly pressing the button. I wish they sold replacement membranes for the N30, cuz I'd buy a 10 pack.
You're all gonna think I'm insane, but my go-to controller is my modded pair of Joycons. Hear me out. I've put hall-effect sensing sticks in (by Jingdu on Amazon), and they feel like an improvement, better travel, nice grip. Most of the games I play use the D-pad, and there's definitely something about the separated d-pad on the Joycons. I have a hitbox-style thing as well, same story, nice separate inputs. SNES style controllers are probably the next best for that. For everything else, I really like the analogue stick on the Retrobit Tribute 64, and having the c-buttons for smash attacks in smash bros ultimate, but unfortunately the D-pad is absolutely terrible without modding it. It's cool to hear about the quality of the 8bitdo Pro 2, and it would be nice to have one perfect controller that did absolutely everything perfectly like that.
I love the classic N64 controller, I got a tribute64 and a brawler64, like them and they are good but muscle memory and 25+ years of using it. Got my smash ultimate GC controller for GameCube, so good still!
My favorite controllers are the NES controller Super Nintendo controller Dream cast controller N64 Controller "especially for smash 64" Game cube controller Wii remote and nun chuck PS4 controller Wii U game pad "Love that thing" Switch pro controller Those are the personal I like that feels good in my hands.
Those modern sega controllers with usb work good on Mac also. If I’m at home will allways try to use a stick though. Modded NG ASP works awesome on most systems.
I have USB and original connection controllers from retro-bit for any original or PC emulation 8 and 16 bit games I play. Once it gets into Playstation 1 and beyond, I use an xbox 360 controller on PC for emulation and I have retro fighter controllers for N64 and Dreamcast for original hardware because those 2 contollers sucked, especially trying to go back to them after being spoiled with modern controllers.
The N64 in particular is difficult to play games without the original controller, the games were designed for it so heavily, Love the dogbone nes controller, always wanted one 👍.
The Saturn usb controller is my go to controller for arcade or Neo Geo games. Barely use it for Saturn emulation. Something about Sega dpad makes fighting game inputs much easier for me.
90% of the games I play on PC, I'll either use a Retro-Bit USB Saturn controller or a Gamecube controller with a Mayflash adapter (though I also have an Xbox One controller for games where neither of those will cut it).
Really like using the retrobit wireless tribute 64 for n64. But ya otherwise I keep going back to my original controllers. Used the brawler 64 for a little bit but certain games it spazzes out in the menu select which is annoying
I find it funny with a lot of your choices I'm the same way except for n64 and I'm surprised with the nes you haven't bought one of 8bitdo mod kits for the dog bone controller. Gives you an authentic feel since your using original hardware with the convenience of wireless.
I'm using the pro 2 for switch and GC (blue retro). At first I didn't use the profiles, but now I have it like this: Switch: 1st profile: Bumper-trigger swap. I don't like using the analog triggers in some games. 2nd profile: LS-Dpad swap. Not to much use, it was for links awakening mostly. If I need to make another profile this one goes out. I know a weirdo that does this to play smash. 3rd Profile: No vibration. Gyro doesn't work well on this controller if you use rumble, and games that use a lot of HD rumble make this controller insufferable, it's not a nice experience either way (I don't know why this isn't brought up in reviews, I have the retroflag grip controller thing and that does a really good job with translating hd to rumble and gyro). So I like to have a quick way to disconnect rumble if needed. GC: only one profile. Duplicate L and R to be both bumpers and triggers, correcting the button layout (blue retro rotates the buttons 90 degrees, A being the lower one and B the left one, good for some games but not everything) and using the back buttons for Z and duplicating Y(some games like fzero ask to press Y as you press A, thing that is really difficult if you aren't using the GC controller).
I like the Super Nintendo mini or Playstation mini controllers for 2D games and XBox Series controller for 3D. I'm also with you on the N64 controller. I find it comfortable and nothing else feels right for that system
amazing collection u got their sir u cant never have to many controllers right, awesome video now we all see what u used in ur videos for those who wonder, u speak really highly of that purple controller i might grab one lol thanks for the recommendations.
I really like my KingKong2/Zen Pro... whatever dumb name they're going with now. I only wish they'd do a little more QA on the feeling on the sticks when pressed to the outer edges. I had to get my first one exchanged because it was crunchy feeling when moving it to the outer edges.
Thank you Ron. I love when you talk about controllers. Did you ever try out/review the Joyzz from Krikzz? It really is an awesome controller, if you haven't tried out, I highly recommened that you pick one up! And when you do, make a review. :) I nearly bought the stylish purple 8bitdo Pro 2 controller, but since I have the Pro+ I hesitatet, but I'm sure sooner or later I'll get one. Same with the Ultimate Controller, I want one. I live in germany and weirdly enough, I didn't find any shop which has the SN 30 4.2 Ghz Controller for SNES oder Super Nt. I want to buy one, but don't want to import it. Those other 8bitdo controller can be bought everywhere but not the SN 30 2.4 G. Still I hope I'll get one sooner or later.
I feel your pain with charging. I'll decide what I'm going to play and charge the controller. When it's ready I'll play. I have way too many controllers to charge all the time too.
Thought I was alone on preferring the n64 pad for n64. I actually prefer the 8bitdo genesis pad to the retrobit ones. The retrobit ones just feel cheap and not accurate to the og to me.
The N64 Controller is awesome. Only Real way to enjoy N64 Games :D (in my Opinion), on PC i like the old Playstation 2 Controller. But this year i changed it and testet the Stadia Controller per Steam. And i Real like the Stadia Controller (i was never Interested in the Stadia Service) so i use him now to play Games on PC over Steam for some Genres.
I just bought two 8bit do pro controller pro after seeing them $10 off on Black Friday. I am loving it! Do I need the 8bitdo adapter to be able to play my rasberrypi build console?
I didn't know the 8bitdo Pro2 has a D input switch. I've been looking for something to replace my old Logitech F710. This is just the ticket! Plus with easy toggle to Nintendo Switch? Sold!
You didn't go into too much detail with the Ultimate Controller. Does the D-Pad have great response to like fighting games or games that you need to have fast reflexes like for Cuphead.
Retrobit controllers for the genesis are great, but I noticed that there's an issue with a few sega cd games where sometimes the C button acts as the start button (like nhl 94 cd). Maybe they could fix that in an update or something. Waiting on the Big6 ones now.
Have you ever used the wireless Nintendo brand SNES controller that they made for the Switch Online SNES library? Just curious how those fare vs the 8bitdo controllers. Also curious about their compatibility
Shout-out to all the clear light up controllers we used as Player 2. You know the ones look cool, but soon as you plug it in and give it to your friend they're blinded by the light. 😃
og ps2-3, og sega 3 button sega saturn. also like sticks for fighters and saturn nights style too i guess ps2-3 overall but i dont like it for fighters then i would use a stick
Do you have any issued with 4 wireless controllers of the same type? I'm trying to make it as easy as possible for people to use without having to config. The set-up will be in a communal area, looking at the 8Bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth Controllers with Charging Docks
Hi I see you’ve got a lot of vintage controllers I wonder if u could help I have one but not sure wot it was it’s blue has scart wires to it and 2 A 2 B buttons a start select button and looks like a space ship in your hand , Iv tried to google lense it but only comes up with n64 controllers
100% my top pick is the 8bitdo pro 2: amzn.to/3O5mGON I love this controller a ton! And how it has a switch on the back where you can it synced up to multiple devices, a PC, Nintendo Switch etc... without having to resync or change settings. Puts it into X-Input when you put it on the x, and Switch when on the S.
I'm a huge fan of 8BitDo...I am not however a fan of their cheap thumbsticks. Ultimately you get what you pay for and the thumbstick drift happens relatively fast and to a level that makes them unusable with every 8BitDo controller I've bought. Honestly if you haven't had this issue with 8BitDo you're a normie casual. Also at least one brand new controller had a screwed up audio jack that didn't work. That's what's going to happen at this price point. Edit: on the flip side I also think the Elite2 is the worst controller out there for tons of reasons. So take it all with a grain of salt.
You picked out one specific thing to add to your list of times you heard something that I actually didnt say .... I said its not perfect but it should be. Didn't say it was bad... didnt say it was horrible... said it was not perfect...
my go to 8BitDo SN30 pro hands down gets the most use im mostly a pc gamer. retro gaming is where its at
That clear black SNES controller looks amazing!
I have several 8BitDo controllers. I've got one wireless one for my phone, one wireless one for my Firestick that has retro games on it, one for my gaming laptop, 2 wired ones for my Raspberry Pi 4 plugged into the USB ports, etc! Yeah i think all 3 dualshock controllers were great. They were always some of my favorite controllers.. that may be why I like the 8bitdo Pro 2 so much, as its fairly similar, just more SNES style tho.
Analog stick,s are bad on ps1, ps2, ps3, but heh we enjoy what we enjoy.
@Nuke Sony loll
I'm so ready for the Retro-Bit Big Six Genesis controller. They are suppose to be shipping them out this month! I wanna use it for playing Fightcade for Street Fighter 3rd Strike on the PC and my Genesis. It's gonna be awesome! Great video man.
As someone who has used the Big6, I have to say.. it is awesome. 😘
I've been waiting for that guy too. I haven't touched a 3 button in that form factor in forever, but the Big6 looks more comfortable than the normal 6 button.

Interact Super Pad for SNES controller ports is my favorite. 8bitdo is nice and the console originals are mostly top tier.
the xbox one controller is so versatile. a great design that is compatible with nearly everything and you can usually find one for pretty cheap
Update: I ordered the RetroFighter Brawl (Sega design) and the RetroBit Saturn Pad with analog got finally after years an update. Looking good for them to be the ultimate Retro Pad.

- Analog Stick for Nights and some other Saturn/ PS1/ N64 Games

SNES/NES Classic: Wii U Pro controllers with 8bitdo wireless adapters
Sega Genesis Mini 1st gen: Retro-bit 6 button (need to get wireless ones)
GameCube: Well once the bluetooth controller port panel comes it, 8bitdo Pro2 for GBA Player (I'm thinking it will use the Dinput Switch?) otherwise the Old Skool (meh), 4x Wavebirds

8bitdo hands down, makes the best 3rd party controllers.
amazing collection u got their sir u cant never have to many controllers right, awesome video now we all see what u used in ur videos for those who wonder, u speak really highly of that purple controller i might grab one lol thanks for the recommendations.
I nearly bought the stylish purple 8bitdo Pro 2 controller, but since I have the Pro+ I hesitatet, but I'm sure sooner or later I'll get one.
I really want to get most of these controllers for the Switch man especially that arcade stick!
Love the Pro 2 purple and just order the Black from Amazon 😻❤
I feel your pain with charging. I'll decide what I'm going to play and charge the controller. When it's ready I'll play. I have way too many controllers to charge all the time too.
I might pick up an 8bitdo Pro 2 purple controller for Steam Deck later on next year
I got the pro 2 for switch and pc, but use og for all systems. For n64 the fighter controller is amazing but buttons are flatter.
Someone should make a dedicated charging station for multiple 8BitDo controllers. Would love a little 4-peace NES/SNES/Genesis/TG16 dock.
Thought I was alone on preferring the n64 pad for n64.
I actually prefer the 8bitdo genesis pad to the retrobit ones. The retrobit ones just feel cheap and not accurate to the og to me.
Great video. Which ones do you recommend for the Atari Gamestation Pro?
The N64 Controller is awesome. Only Real way to enjoy N64 Games :D (in my Opinion), on PC i like the old Playstation 2 Controller. But this year i changed
it and testet the Stadia Controller per Steam. And i Real like the Stadia Controller (i was never Interested in the Stadia Service) so i use him now
to play Games on PC over Steam for some Genres.
Sold!
However some companies can bring back retro to modern days which it is not too bad. But they make wireless with dongle or Bluetooth options.
N64 controller is sick. Its literally a 6 button SNES pad with an analog attachment. Doesnt get the respect it deserves
Love my pro2, I wish I had it in purple though
You didn't go into too much detail with the Ultimate Controller. Does the D-Pad have great response to like fighting games or games that you need to have fast reflexes like for Cuphead.
Well I mean, this wasnt a review. But yes it responds well, its just like the pro 2 to me in that regard. The dpad is the same.
9:35 … and battery level indicators (4 lights style)
Im just curious how you store ALL your controllers. I wanna buy more but i rarely have room to know where to place em...
Do you still like the Retrobit Legacy SNES controller? Didn't see it mentioned.
I’m glad I’m not alone there and can’t use anything but the OEM 64 controller on the 64. Anything else just feels wrong.
which controllers are good for all the roms? like snes.nes,sega,dreamcast,n64 etc?? for the mac os?
I prefer the original controllers too 😌
Shout-out to all the clear light up controllers we used as Player 2. You know the ones look cool, but soon as you plug it in and give it to your friend they're blinded by the light. 😃
og ps2-3, og sega 3 button sega saturn. also like sticks for fighters and saturn nights style too i guess ps2-3 overall but i dont like it for fighters then i would use a stick
is it me or do i see the retrobit Saturn Pro controller in the background? (aka the sega saturn controller with hall effect analog sticks XD)
Do you have any issued with 4 wireless controllers of the same type? I'm trying to make it as easy as possible for people to use without having to config. The set-up will be in a communal area, looking at the 8Bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth Controllers with Charging Docks
I liked the pro 2 but the top of the analog stick ended up separating from the stick and it’s not built well with heavy use I found.
I have heavily used mine and its still like new.
Have you ever used a Xbox Elite controller or a Scuf?
Got a pro 2 awhile back after watching one of your reviews. It's honestly amazing. Love it
Hi I see you’ve got a lot of vintage controllers I wonder if u could help I have one but not sure wot it was it’s blue has scart wires to it and 2 A 2 B buttons a start select button and looks like a space ship in your hand , Iv tried to google lense it but only comes up with n64 controllers
I bought the 8bitdo arcade stick, do you guys think I should get the sanwa stick?
Good stuff.
So many controllers 😲
Where to get N64 controllers today?
Thanks.
What is the best wireless retro gaming controller for pc emulation?
100% my top pick is the 8bitdo pro 2: amzn.to/3O5mGON
I love this controller a ton! And how it has a switch on the back where you can it synced up to multiple devices, a PC, Nintendo Switch etc... without having to resync or change settings. Puts it into X-Input when you put it on the x, and Switch when on the S.
@@Madlittlepixel thanks!
Pro 2 still doesn't wake the switch tho.
The red Genesis controller is SEXY!
8bitdo should be better. Especially SNES.
@vastorogis Don't say stupid stuff about cheap controllers.
👍👍
Not a fan of the Playstation setup with the analog sticks.....any setup like that....are out for me.
This is the 3,000th time I hear someone say the Switch Pro controller D-Pad is bad.
However, I've yet to hear One Reason why it's bad.
🤷♂️
You picked out one specific thing to add to your list of times you heard something that I actually didnt say .... I said its not perfect but it should be. Didn't say it was bad... didnt say it was horrible... said it was not perfect...
The diagonals of 8bitdo dpad are awful
The fake $11 GameCube controller was totally worth it.
RIP mouse and keyboard
Shame.. Shame haha, Tribute 64 still kills it, or yeah official will always be better, but yeah you know !!
