That's my main problem with these setups, they are trying to sell you on the number of games whereas any normal retro enthusiast would rather carefully curate their own collection, building it up over time out of games they enjoy. Much more important to me is that all the emulators are configured properly with ROMs etc. as that's usually where users have the most trouble. Once you've got an emulator working fine, just dropping a ROM in is the easy part. And yeah, duplicates... It's the bane of all those collections.
yup, i would gladly pay for something that had all the OG games back in the day, not hacks and homemade stuff, i want stuff from the arcades, to OG nintendo, to playstation up until what ever it can handle, also i would love all comics, manga, anime, movies, tv shows, cartoons, books and audio books to be in the thing as well that i can access when ever offline
The PI 5 i get here in germany for around 66 buck (4GB) and Batocera Images are available via Torrent with thousends of games. No need to pay so much money. ;)
I got one of these just cause I saw your video and it’s bad ass! Yes I did redownload all my own Roms but that didn’t take too long since I already have most complete rom sets on one of my gaming PC’s so I transferred all the games over via Ethernet cable on the computer
Yeah that is pretty high in price considering a new RP 5 costs about the same amount. Maybe if it doesn't sell and the price drops about 50 bucks I might buy it. I could then get a nice SanDisc SD card and either build an image or go grab one of those pre builds that are pretty good. Thanks again for saving us some cash.
Wacko is one of those games like the early 80s Carnival, that I wish I could have on a stand up arcade machine. Did you know it would take over 60 days of playing 24 hrs a day nonstop to play each game just 1 minute. That's a lot of games. Great review. Thanks
@@RetroGamingGuy i wish they had all the great games from arcade to the old consoles to OG nintendo to playstation, i dont like hacks and homemade stuff, ill get that way later when i have the full collection of all the great games
The amount of work one would have to put into this is just more than I'd be willing to commit. I'd disable all the old systems and all the systems it struggles with as the first step in fine tuning it. Next would be curating the catalogues down to whatever it is I like. Sure it is neat to see things I've never seen but man I just don't want this thing. I've messed around with a super console X once and I just don't see much difference between this and that and it's about half the price of it. There's newer things of better value.
If you don't mind handheld. I'm running am S24Ultra with Razor Kishi... runs everything...n64 acts up a bit. Psx/ps2 run fairly smooth and most games playable..
I'm with ya I had a bunch of people on Reddit wanna give me crap because I said I typically don't play a lot of sports games, I'd rather play the sport in person. When I download super huge ROM packs I delete everything like Golf Football Soccer Baseball Pingpong Tennis Fishing Hunting Casino Volleyball Olympic Games and then leave everything else except for obvious stuff like Barbie Elmo Sesame Street Spelling Math et cetera
I mean I don’t think people choose to play fifa over playing it in real life??? I play competitive soccer. I love chilling back and playing some fifa at night even tho my life revolves around soccer….
@@luminousfortune 100% he knows, I got into batocera from retro gaming guy and I learned a ton from his videos, I was meaning the new users who don't even know F1 or where to get roms
Almost $230! F dat! There's cheaper devices out there folks. No way in hell I'd buy that! Raspberry pie is the best part about this video but it's not even that powerful of a device. Better to save up and get something that has atleast 16gb of ram for solid retro gaming. Even still I personally am looking for 32-64gb to cover future gaming. Just to put things into perspective this raspberry pie has 4gb ram which is as much ram as a nintendo switch. A ps5 has 16gb ram. Do ya really want a raspberry pie? Go get a hackable switch for the price ur spending on this if u want a good 4gb ram gaming system they go for about the same price on eBay! Otherwise look for better. Don't waste your money as I have so many times 😅.
Greetings from Massachusetts. Dude, I like your reviews. But what a friggin' waste of a half hour of my life. Rasp pi 4 is outdated and underpowered, to say the least. And this lineup, full of ridiculous duplicates and lacking big titles, is simply atrocious. I like how thorough you are, that's why I watch your reviews. And you seem like a cool guy. Do us all a favor. Hell, do yourself a favor - make your next review a product that we'll actually enjoy. A product that you yourself whole-heartedly have no problem endorsing, and a product that we, as consumers and video game enthusiasts, won't be disappointed spending our hard earned dollars on. This product is so horrible that I personally felt bad for you watching you review it. You're a good reviewer, don't put yourself through these reviews on cheese ass products. Don't torture yourself, or your audience. If you're having issues with mainstream tech companies sending you quality products to review, shit I got $5 I can spare. I think most of your subs would spare a buck or two to spare YOU from another review like this one. There's so many plug and plays out there now, so many handhelds and phone controllers - I think GameSir just dropped 2 phenomenal mobile controllers within this past month. Point is, there is a PLETHORA of quality products on the market right now that I would much rather see you review, and that you as a gamer, I know, would enjoy so much more.
Hey there thanks for the support. I review good stuff and bad stuff. The idea is that while this yes has nothing of interest for me personally it benefits many who get the see what it has to offer or not offer. Sounds like you are much more advanced with emulation so I totally get your view here and for the most part I share it as well, but many don't know what to expect and get lost in the game count. Thats been my goal with the last few reviews I've done that weren't great products. Can't always show all good products. Rest assured tomorrow's review is outstanding.
@@RetroGamingGuy Yeah I just turned 40 bro. Grew up in the 90s, and have been fascinated with tech ever since punters on AOL. With the Rasp 4 aging, I was just hoping for at least a lineup of optimized titles. I guess junk serves a purpose, also. Keep doing what you're doing. I'll keep watching
@@MattyLovesChess The ones making these type products are playing on people's need to get the most for their money. So they pad their numbers to fool those unknowing about emulation into thinking their getting something huge for cheap.
It's nothing more than another emulator. They all have the same systems and games as the rest. And can really buy an half decent android box alot cheaper. So really not worth it's cost.

You need to be able to star or highlight good games, other then that copy it to another card or setup a leaner system

The games with multiple versions are for languages. Look at the bottom right as your scrolling through them and the country changes

When you say we can "fine tune it," does that mean we can delete duplicates and games which don't emulate well?

RP time with Retro gaming guy
If you get one of these and spent some time with the sd card in the pc and cleaned up the roms it would be a decent thing??
How much does this cost????
But do you have those old school awesome cheat codes?
What's SCUMM VM? Looks like a PC emulator. Could you import Torrin's Passage to this Pi for Scumm to run?
just 2 many options out there, no reason to buy crap.

90000 games on a 256gb micro sd?
That's a worse library than what's on that little 128 flash drive.
WAY worse.
