If you want get the the achievement later on in the game just hoard 6 invisibility pots to sneak your way past everyone in turn based mode, put about 15-20 different bombs into a bag, drop the bag next to Gortash, shoot it with an arrow, and watch the fireworks.
I left timed snowballs on top of many barrels including rune powder while I went to camp, and got message boss is gone moments later. Don't need to be there
I simply built an atomic bomb using everything explosive i could find and showed everyone in Grym Rock what all the fuzz with Oppenheimer was about. And everything just for an Achievement
The good ol' 'the DM gave us about 50 smokepowder barrels across the whole campaign and by the gods I will fucking use ALL OF THEM on ONE GUY' strat. I used that one on Raphael. Forgot to bring all my barrels with me the second time, though - only got away with 12 plus a few assorted random bombs I was carrying.
I accidentally achieved this, I used invisibility on all team members, then I paralyzed him and dropped a darkness cloud so no one would interfere with the assassination.
This worked very well. Invis and walk in and darkness only your squad ravenguard and him. Paralyze and go crazy. Raise dead as well after for an interesting convo!
I did this without knowing the achievement existed on my first playthrough. I had a bard/thief hand crossbow build, I had wyll as a bardlock, and both karlach and laezel with great weapon master. I hasted everyone because I knew I wanted to kill him for Karlach's sake and we one turn KO'd him on tactician. Mind you that this was after the coronation, when he asks you to join forces. I wanted to before, but I did not want to kill Wyll's old man.
The easiest method is telling your Str character to use Gortash as an improvised weapon, let your character carry him to the furthest away place and quicktravel to rivington asap while gortash is still being carried. Now Gortash is next to the Rivington Portal with you without being aggroed so you can prepare everything and one turn kill him.
I honestly just went ahead and lured him into the back rooms behind the audience hall, and then jumped him. You can do so by shooting out an arrow; gortash and the duke will investigate it, and the duke will leave before gortash does, giving your party time to go jump him while nobody is looking. No items or spells needed for this, just jump to the spot next to the bridge.
when I killed him the majority of his party members were dead (I was in the later half of the game where Gortash orders his followers to execute nearly everyone in the castle for some reason) and I tried sitting on the balcony on the side where the vines are and had one party member go and detonate an explosive barrel near the steel watch, and when I did it hit one of Gortash's followers (all the steel watch were still alive) and then caused only his followers to attack me, but none of the steel watch cared so I essentially fought them separately. I fought his followers first, long rested, went back and then fought the steel watch and it was significantly easier having to kill them separately. then i killed gortash upstairs and it was also easy because he only had like 1/10 of his followers there from when i first met him
uh. go behind the castle, enter from the balcony, aggro everyone except the watchers, lure gortash to the baclony, shove him off the balcony and finish him off. i swear my playthrough is the most weird thing ever, I literally did the same with balthazar
do you one better. with a Throwing Build Karlach, I bodily threw his ass off the wyrmsrock balcony to his death. with a 20+ Strength you can pick up Medium sized creatures.
I just did it powering throught the fight with the Item if you crit you auto paralize and nuke him then fleed with the rogue char while everybody else died, fast travel to camp.spent 200 gold to res each char dead, and then came back with invis pot and spells to loot the body
I did this achievement, just go to the balcony on the bottom right of the room and pull one of the guards nearby, and bottleneck the entire armada of watchers and guards at the door with boxes, then they'll trickle out to the balcony one by one, and you can kill them off. And when Gortash finally arrives, just hammer him to death. But this is quite fun. Easy peasy.
So many of the other videos were pretty complicated, I honestly just surrounded gortash in the coronation room with all the fire and smoke powder barrels I'd saved up throughout the game and blew him sky high to get the trophy 😂
I just use flight to fly up and down the castle walls each turn landing an attack each turn but not being able to be hit back. Killed all the watchers and everything in the castle doing this.
When pickpocketing you can drag things from your inventory to your victim's bag. This way you can put around 50K gold in Gortash's pocket which will deal around 700-800 dmg with that mace@@GiggityGlen
I went to this video to figure out a more passive way. I accidentally triggered aggro on everyone and gortash followed me out one side of the castle. Since i have a dragonborn fight with athletics and the raven queen neckless i jumped back up to him after running and threw him off the cliff to his death...
Video is meant for people who want to skip the watchers quest and do the achievement in one go. I'm aware of what the achievement is. Thanks for clarifying that for others though.
I used my shadowmonk to drop a darkness on his head and almost otk him, sadly the curtain of force prevented me from doing that and I had to stun him and the lord a couple of turns before finally killing Gortash and escaping with an amazing step of the wind
Sharpened Snare Cuirass, and portent dice with spell save dc work for flesh to stone, and flesh to gold. In theory you can turn 22 people a day into stone by rerolling all companions and hirelings into portent wizards and rotating the cuirass and dc items around.
block off one of the doors with barrels and containers, then drop a hunger of hadar on the other doorway while you spam displacer beast clones, most fun i had all game
I used 2 runepowders barrels and a bunch of other barrels to kill him after the ceremony lol. My character used the minor flame to activate the bomb while he used a spell to block all incoming damage to watch. I also used invisibility spell so no one mind my existence
I went and did IronThrone + SteelFoundry before the coronation, because i thought i could deny him the "crown" if i didn't trigger the ceremony. Managed to bug Wyll's quest as it kept saying to participate to the ceremony. Saved everyone from the Iron Throne, but wyll's father wasn't there, as the trigger did not yet happen... but he wasn't with Gortash either. Killed Gortash on top of the fort in his room, and wyll's quest still says to participate to the ceremony... Oh well... maybe next time Wyll :D Is there a way to stop the ceremony without bugging Wyll's quest?
I tried the same thing. In my version, Wyll's dad also wasn't in the Iron Throne, but instead of bugging the quest and still talking about the ceremony, it bugged the quest and said I killed him.
All i did was go on the side with my party, cast Hunger of Hadar, Plant Growth, and use repelling eldritch blasts/push attacks via monk or superiority die
Just to unlock the achievement because you'll fuck up your game badly. Say goodbye to gondians, Duke Ravengard and a bunch of quests just disappearing because almost everything changes with Gortash dead.
You can wait to do the achievement. But if you want to skip the quests associated with the Steel Foundry/Iron Throne to kill Gortash at this moment, lets say even for RP purposes, this would be a way to do it. Also you can revive Duke Ravengard at a later point, and the point of no return for the other quests in Act 3 comes after killing both Gortash and Orin, so even if you decide to do this you aren't bricking your playthrough at all. I still had the options to complete everything outside the Steel Foundry/Iron Throne when I did this.
@Spook_is_Back But some other minor quests breaks/bugs or it just completes without rewards. Sometimes npcs won't trigger dialogue. Its a fine line between intended content and bugged content. I don't know the state of the game right now, but I'd advise not to kill Gortash first. Do everything you have to do related to Gortash before killing him.
Yes but Wyll's dad dies and everyone in the Iron Throne goes with him. Also the Elder Brain takes over the Steel Watch after he's gone. It's best to kill him when the story sets up to kill him, but it's not the worst way to get things done. I'm sure you can still try to take out the Steel Watch Foundry afterwards and not having Wyll's dad isn't the worst thing, it depends on what players want in their story.
Thankfully I got the Achi from that Gold Lady on my first Playthrough so I will try to get the Visa on a later playthrough and murder her the legit way (even though I did murder her the legit way on my first Playthrough only to reload to get the Achi)
The Steel Foundry and Iron Throne Prison will be destroyed immediately. The elder brain controls the steel watchers after Gortash is killed, and talking to one reveals that the brain destroyed the Steel Foundry themselves upon taking control. You can still revive Wyll's father with Mizora, but doing so results in Wyll keeping his pact.

How fitting for a tyrant king to be defeated by being turned to gold
This is a pure DnD strat

The satchel charge strategy was how I killed Nere in chapter 1, it’s a real problem solver

I just blew him up with 7 nautiloid bombs and a runepowder barrel. Highlight of the campaign right there!

You can also bait him in the bottom floor and fight him there
49% chance on the scroll. I’ve attempted 114 times so far and haven’t succeeded once.
I feel you, I was trying to Polimorph Balthazar in shadowfell and it was a 40% chance, somehow it took like 25 tries though
we just used a fuck ton of smoke powder barrels but i guess that works too yhea

Toll Collector also drops a mace which will deal around 1K damage if you put a stack of gold in someones pocket. I one-shot Raphael that way ^^

I think you can just pick up crates and chest and bar the door where your distractor is instead of using summons to block it.
