- Pokemon Competitive Singles has been turned on it's head with the upcoming release of the "Hidden Treasure of Area Zero" DLC. Bloodmoon Ursaluna sure is an all new Ursaluna. This one uses special attacks though.
The move "Blood Moon" has a very high base power and thanks to "Mind's Eye" also known as "Scrappy 2", nothing can switch in against it. Woohoo!

An underrated tool bloodmoon has is the move moonlight taking care of one of original lunas biggest issues imo which was longevity.

To be fair, I don't think the hype for Ursaluna really died down. Mag got banned, which was the reason trick room could even function well in OU. That was a massive blow to Ursaluna's gameplay. I do think that the pokemon is underexplored though, and in gens going past this one, assuming tera doesn't return, it will be much stronger.
I really don't think Jimothy has a great grasp on Gen 9 OU
Eh at the end of the day it's still a pokemon with amazing attack and bulk, but awful speed, no priority and and no reliable recovery move. It's very good at what it does but it's definitely the type to have to rely on teammates to cover its weaknesses more then most OU pokemon tend to.

Very little of the hype around ursaluna was centered around trick room. It's a historically shit strategy in singles and it's honestly an anomaly that it worked with mag, because mag was that broken. The hype around ursaluna was based around the fact that it could destroy balance teams like a somewhat less powerful dracovish in gen 8, but the hype didn't account for the fact that the pace of the game is a lot faster in gen 9 than in gen 8 and the type of team structure that luna eats for breakfast isn't really prevalent in gen 9. Luna has massacred some stall archetypes but it's not like things were going great for stall before.

STAB Guts Facade
STAB 140 special attack Normal move
Part of the reason I think this mon is so threatening that I dont think people are talking about is how unorthodox it is stat and type wise, Normal and Ground are usually physical attackers so having a very strong special attacker to but past to physical walls would be a surprise, another thing I think its interesting is how this mon has the rare distinct of being a special attacker with high physical bulk, so it goes against any expectation of what you expect in a Normal or Ground type.
I have an friend who beat me using a choice specs hypervoice bloodmoon ursaluna. This thing is OP if you like me was not prepared for it

Yeah, along with lefties i believe that's better than vacuum wave since the unaware Pokemon (Dondozo, Skeledirge and Clodsire) have a decent to bad matchup against it. It can also destroy its "counters" like Corviknight this way.
I feel it is worth pointing out that ground is super effective against both of normal types resistances so only rock and steel Pokémon with levitate, an air balloon, or a flying type don’t take neutral damage from its stabs

I'm surprised not to see Moonlight being mentioned. The fact Ursa BM learns it is kind of a big deal because regular Ursa dies from chipping itself away and has no reliable way to recover its health for longevity, but Ursa BM does. Give it a defensive tera type and it becomes a really bulky, wall breaker that can heal itself if needed. It does use up one of your attacking moves, but it might be worth it depending on your team or how you play Ursa BM. He pairs really well with A-Ninetails/Grimmsnarl and Rillaboom to help make him more tankier to live longer.
Going for something like Silk Scarf and multiple Normal stabs might be interesting. Nuke with Blood Moon, then follow up with Hyper Voice when they think you're going to switch out. Almost as powerful as spamming something like Draco Meteor repeatedly (albeit without Specs's ridiculous boost in power), but a lot more reusable and flexible.
Just like environmentally displaced bears in real life, Bloodmoon Ursaluna is able to target and threaten ghosts (plus 10 points if you know the video I'm referencing)

I prefer regular ursaluna design and name wise. Bloodmoon using vacuum wave is cool I only ever really see that move in gen 4 uu with blaziken.
Mega Luke with nasty and swords with bullet and vacuum was a fun triples mon in oras

Its the same with all forms. Why give a form to a not so well liked mon when you can give forms to already beloved mons to further the hype. In the end, a new form of Charizard will always be more popular than a new form of mightyena.

There is ONE use for the evasion effect: substitute serperior. If serprior (and also enamoroud now) switches into defog, it will gain an Evasion boost. Combine it substitute and it can quickly get nasty

This Pokemon's hardest counter is probably Bronzong. That mon that resists Normal, has Levitate, good Special Defense, outspeeds Ursaluna in Trick Room, and even has access to Grass Knot and Body Press.
Cradily would be a good matchup too with a lot of similarities. It even has more Special Bulk than Bronzong (especially under sand) and hits harder. And Celesteela will be a NIGHTMARE for this thing once that comes back.
You should talk about Torterra next, it got huge buffs in the DLC

When we first learned of blood moon it seemed a little concerning since it doesn’t block intimidate. And we just assumed a new ursaluna would be physical this was concerning. However, it’s quite perfect for our special attacking bear
Ursaluna bloodmoon's best sets are ones that aren't choiced, so the protect thing is not a good way to handle him, especially since he has good coverage like moonblast.
Who said ever anything about choice scarf? The item makes zero sense heck even trolling with black sludge as a held item would be better.

His signature move cant be used two times in a row. NOBODY runs choice spec on him, it would struggle on every other turn otherwise.

I think regular Ursaluna is currently underexplored. Yes, flame orb is ludicrously powerful, but bulkier variants, with Bulk Up or RestTalk are very powerful too imo, just not as immediately dangerous. I like using flame orb RestTalk with lower speed than negative 0IV Corvi, to catch them on the roost, while RestTalk keeps it healthy. Also nice is that Sleep status also activates Guts, and it serves to respond to Amoongus, even when not burned. Yes, it can’t hit Air Ballon Ghold, but fitting a lure is easy
its hard to make rest talk work in modern metas because its just so slow, but I agree Ursaluna is underutilized rn. I'd love to see some more bulletproof sets.

I like that it's got a limited movepool, but it's movepool is strong enough, Earth Power/Moon Blast/Focus Miss and Vacuum wave are great.
Plus it has Calm Mind to buff itself further and Moonlight to heal damage, which is pretty insane for Ursaluna
It actually doesn’t even need coverage.
Mind’s Eye lets it hit Ghost types with Normal moves, whereas Earth Power takes care of the Steel and Rock types that sponge Blood Moon
@5000Gary vacuum wave is priority and can hit mons like corviknight for neutral damage and kingambit for 4x damage.

I want to try Throat Spray Hyper Voice, but I play in game ladder (3v3 and VGC) mostly. Instant power with Blood Moon, but also you can boost with Hyper Voice while keeping the pressure on. Not to mention Hyper Voice is a spread move that bypasses Substitute in VGC.

That's more or less the moveset im running for doubles paired with crecelia but instead running Hyper voice (I think that's the name of the attack) Don't really need protect when Crecelia is healing the bear up after calm mind and trick room are set up.
The things it has over Exploud, swellow and Chatot is that higher spe.atk, bulk and movepool but he's slower. the move is as strong as boomburst but cant bypass subs and can't be as spamable

This one might stay in ou due to three moves possibly. Calm mind which makes it impossible to switch into and if you get one or two opportunities to do so you become scary as the special defense is much higher leading to more KOs. Moonlight because access to reliable recovery on a tanky mon is great. And vacuum wave which is pretty good special priority which can threaten kingambit. Regular ursaluna lacks these.
Is it worth resetting for a zero speed and/or attack ursaluna? I haven’t caught mine yet, and I am unsure whether it is worth my time to get a perfect one…
Well Corviknight with some sp. def investment can switch in fairly easily. On the other hand it's prone to being a setup fodder so ideally it should carry Body Press if it wants to deal enough damage to Ursaluna-B

One thing I decided to do with this Ursaluna is run it with Max Special Defense, Max Special Attack and an Assault Vest, because if Tangrowth used to work very well with that even with its base 50 special defense I dont see why Ursaluna cant do the same.

The fact it has actual distribution thanks to being a TM now instead of being limited to like five pokemon, most of whom can't even use the move, really helps.

Havent had the chance to watch this yet. Does Sleeptalk allow bloodmoon ursaluna to use Blood Moon twice in a row? If so, would it be worth using RestTalk/Earth Power/Blood Moon, as long as you firsr take out Corviknight (and other Steel + Flying/Levitate mons)?

Considering that unlike regular Ursaluna where ghost types can be immune to it's insanely powerful Facade, there's nothing immune to Bloodmon Ursaluna's powerful signature move, and that's scary, it also can counter the two types that resist it's signature move with its ground typing

I already loved luna before, but my goodness. This ONE Pokémon almost made me buy the dlc.
First thing that caught my eye about this Ursaluna is the Mind's Eye ability which ignores the opponent's evasiness, can't have its own accuracy lowered, and can hit ghost types with normal and fighting type moves. I'm thinking, "Finally! A counter for Minimize Drifblim!"
If Bloodmoon Ursaluna isn't powerful enough for OU, it still seems like it'd be too strong for UU. If it drops to UU, we hope it gets sent to UUBL.
Glimmora with Eject pack is a good partner for Blood Moon Ursaluna.

What I don't understand is how and Honorable Pokémon Great Tusk, who was tragically murdered earlier this year, is not only present in this court case, but is DEFENDING HIS MURDERER.
Funnily enough, in AAA, Ursaluna was banned for using the same set as it does in OU yet the Bloodmoon form is kinda meh when it can run things like Adaptability or Beads of Ruin.
The fact that regular Ursaluna is in UU is insane. How does it not just destroy the entire tier 💀

In Gen 1, hyper beam doesn't recharge when you knock out the opponent, and I think that's more interesting

I've been having a lot of trouble making blood moon work on screen teams. And by "work" I mean utterly destroy the metagame which is what it's supposed to do on paper. However that's in part due to fire-Ogerpon (and other sun/Screens HO archetypes) driving the game to a really fast pace that doesn't quite work for ursaluna. Since firepon is likely getting the banhammer soon, and manaphy may be going soon as well (two mons that are HORRIBLE for blood moon), screens HO will fall off and blood moon will become more dangerous. Tera gambit is still an issue (tera means you can't autowin the sucker mindgame with vacuum wave, and firepon wont be there to eat up the tera), so we'll have to see.
I'll bet my paycheck that blood moon doesn't drop below OU. Whether or not it proves to be banworthy I can't say for certain now.
A good counter i found is tera grass energy ball
blood moon is even more of a 1v1 monster than regular ursaluna. a lot of times i’ll get two kills since they underestimate his bulk too
Basculegion with Mold Breaker is a hard counter to Blood Moon Ursaluna and i imagine it will get a lot more usage going forward because of that
Mold breaker isn't neutralizing gas. It doesn't disable scrappy in that sort of way, so I don't think it would disable scrappy+.
