@@Quattro_Joe HA HA HAHAHA! So glad to read your reply.
After a minute or two of watching I thought, “Oh. He’s Irish.” (I’m American) And then just carried on watching.
Then I read this person’s comment and thought, “Oh. I got it wrong?” I thought I could have done better than that.
Then your reply of, Yeah, Scottish accents are nice, but I’m Irish!
Hilarious. All in good fun. Cheers.

Thanks for the feedback. Your right they are expensive but they last forever and won’t let you down. I’ve head MACK tools are very good but I’ve never used them. They can be a little hard to get hold of here in Ireland.

Way back in the 1990s I got a 1969 Triumph TR6. I started working on it with my crappy little set I got somewhere. I think the ratchet was Hollywood Tools and the sockets were not branded, just had the size. They were so cheap and soft that they started to strip and then, since they fit worse and worse each time they would start to damage the fasteners. Finally I bought a small Snap-on set and all that nonsense stopped. I still have the Snap-on ratchets from back then. Now I buy used Snap-on mostly and I think it’s still a better value. Even if I want to sell, the value will hold. Good luck getting a decent price on a cheap tool.
Another good brand I recommend is Ko-Ken. They are a Japanese manufacture. I just did a comparison video between Snap-on vs Ko-Ken Roto-head ratchets. Video # 80 I think. Ko-Ken seems to have high quality and very good prices. Have a look.
    Cheers.

I’ll have a look at your video 👍. You absolutely right about used snap on being brilliant value. Years ago I had a cheap set and I split 3 sockets doing 1 job. I went and got my friends snap on set to finish the job and bought my first set 3 days later. Never looked back. I look forward to doing work on the car since then. 👍👍👍

That Facom is Made in Taiwan and is more premium than you think.
A Bahco SBS750, Proxxon or Gedore Red would have been a better 'in between'-choice.

      @Quattro_Joe  Рік тому +1

Some of the tools are made in Taiwan, china and France. It is a French company. And as regards the “in between” choice I was more referring to price than quality. The Facom tools are very good as half my tool box will attest to. The Snap on tools are just another step up. As far as the other brands you mentioned, I’ve used a Bahco before but never owned one and they can be a little difficult to get here in Ireland. I’m sure you could buy them from the USA online but taxes make it not worth it.

Those Facom pear-head ratchets are excellent, I got all three sizes from eBay a few years back at bargain prices - I think the 3/8" was about £25.

They are excellent 👍. You got some serious value there, nice buy. I got mine from the tool truck at work along with a heap of other stuff and paid it on the drip 👍👍👍

Snapon at work, where the truck comes by? Sure.. Snapon in the home garage?? Nah, i'll pass.. Too many good options at significantly lower prices..

A lot of the techs in my job will just bring home the tools they need for whatever job they have on that evening and bring them back into work the next day. I don’t know any who have a second tool box at home. I did detailing in the job so I only have my tools at home. I much prefare using premium tools to cheaper ones. I’ll also try get them used if possible to save a few €€€€

@@Quattro_Joe Each to their own brother. . Whatever works for you.
I also try and hit good used tools, but my gearwrench 120xps are actually damn good rachets.. I have a lot of wright tools, and I actually think the wrightgrips are as good, maybe better than the flank drive pluses. Wright's impacts and swivels are second to none too. Don't know what kind of voodoo they're doing with that metallurgy, but they're my fav. If you can find them in Ireland, you won't be disappointed. And quite a bit cheaper than snappy.
Have to have a box at home. You just never know when something is going to need to be fixed, and the inconvenience of running to work for tools would be a PITA. Ideally, I'd do the fixes with the lift at work, but it's not an ideal world always 😆
