There’s actually a certain side you apply pressure to, hence the reason for telling you which way to use the wrench to loosen or tighten something.

I laughed when you didn't follow the wrench instructions and ended up marring the stuff or having a hard time fitting the pieces as far back as they needed in the wrench. Personally though, no matter what tool I'm using I always make sure everything is 100% hand tightened to avoid simple problems with tools. This reminded me of my Grandpas purchase of a 'As Seen on TV' purchase of a Robo-grip wrench that I've destroyed so many things with, yet it's my number 1 demo tool I still keep to this day, maybe one of my closest memories from him even. The instructions on which way to turn it are how to get grip, like with channel locks, a pipe wrench, adjustable wrench. You can put a pipe wrench or adjustable wrench on either direction but they only grip going one way. I hope that was clear

I've seen a couple ads for a similar wrench but much smaller and it looked like it had a locking size adjustment, but still ratcheted. Only reason I didn't look into it further was it part of a multi tool only.

I think that where that thing would be useful is in a roadside kit or survival bag where you don’t care about a little more time or quality (I.E chewing the bolts up) and dont have a ton of space or weight capacity to carry a full wrench set. I build elevators and if your caught using a channy on any kind of bolt unless you absolutely have to you’ll get an ass chewing. Any good mechanic wouldn’t use it on anything important.

The metal sandwich construction of this kind of tool makes it quite durable. But as you found out it pretty much means if you apply too much force it can tear up most fittings and bolt heads. So its prolly better suited for used on hardened bolts and fittings that can stand up to the abuse it puts out. Again another great emergency use tool

there's a thing called a speed wrench, I think you should try them out.
they're normal wrenches that are means to losen things faster than a normal wrench because you don't have to take the wrench off over and over (talking about the "C" end)

It's way easier then a good old fashioned pipe wrench. Makes my life as a plumber way easier and it only needs one hand to use

I think some of the wrenches that are built like that work better than others. Some chew the nut and bolt heads up like you experienced. They have some that don't have serrated jaws that don't chew up the nuts and bolts but they don't do pipe. They will never replace open-end/ box-end wrenches and sockets. The nonserrrated ones actually can work very well especially after you get the feel of it down. They would be handy for on the go when weight or space might be a bigger deal. I personally would try to take a non serrated pair or I think they make a set of 2 one small and one large that I believe would be lighter, and you can slide a pipe onto the handle if you want more control when breaking a nut or bolt loose and save your knuckles. Then they make some awesome slip joint pliers with directional jaws that work well for pipe or bolt and nuts with previously rounded corners. I think some slip joint pliers also are made with a squared shape in the jaws for nuts and bolts. I have not tried them yet but I might get a pair of them soon. Maybe something you could test?? Just a thought.

I just love how in the commercial you see all the test pipes and nuts are rounded off or scratched and uneven. And now with Tyler you see it doesn't grip a pipe untill the surface is completely scratched.
Everything that thing does I can do with a good pipe wrench. Since they are adjustable

For that last one you should have had the bottom holder wrench on the other side of that piece of wood so you wouldn’t need to use your left hand to hold it. One you started turning it would stay there then you could use both hands to turn the “magic wrench” and there’d be no risk to busting your thumb.
