Don’t forget to mention that a lot of clubs don’t update the firmware on their CDJ’s and controllers, so make sure to have a flash drive formatted to FAT32 (instead of the more modern exFAT) to make sure you don’t have a compatibility issue. I found that out the hard way on my first club gig when my flash drive wasn’t recognized, I had to pull out my laptop and reformat while someone else played during my slot 😅
Got a video suggestion for you, it's a little emergency lifehack. If you're ever stuck with one CDJ for whatever and you're running out of track and need to do a transition you can use the loop or roll effects on the mixer to create a loop, load your new track and the old one will keep looping on the mixer for you to mix out of. This trick has saved my set before when I've had a faulty deck that was out of action for a few minutes.
@@loganpierce6041 -- it's a lifehack because you can't do that on DJ controllers... at least none that i've used. loops would get cut as soon as you load a new track onto the same deck.
Wow you can actually do that???🎉 thanks for sharing. Just getting back to djing after being out of it for 17 years. Was making a list of failure modes and how to fix them. You are a lifesaver!
Adding to the category 'what could go wrong', we had two incidents where the DJs started their set and one CDJ would load the track but not start playing it, resulting in DJs panically hammering the play button and powercycling the CDJs. On the first one, the CDJ was accidently switched to REV, so it tried to play backwards from the beginning of the track, what understandably did not work. The second one was this weekend on a CDJ3000, where the last DJ left the tempo fader on absoulte minimum, and it just did not play at all then, because the tempo button was cycled to 'WIDE' mode.
the tip that stood out the most for me or that I learnt from was the notch that small notches doesn't effect you trying to beat match you really saved me
When I first time played on cdj's I couldn't set cue point, because on cdj you must press the jog wheel to set new cue point. If you don't pause jog by hand it jumps to old cue point. Be careful on that! :)

Thank you. I’m using a xdj xz, and the event controller all the djs have to use are cdj 3000s, it’s going to be my first time using them. this helped me learn more about cdjs.
I think the problem with the whole Pioneer vs other brands is the fact that you rarely see any mainstream house/techno/dance music festivals & clubs with any other DJ equipment besides Pioneer. Other brands such as Denon, are probably about 2-3 years ahead with respect to technological advancements and pushing the price barrier for home use DJ's. But ultimately most nightclubs and festivals in the world use CDJ's. Unless this changes and there is a miraculous turn around from the big festival and club space, Pioneer will continue to dominate the market and their ecosystem is flawless. For example the layout of a DDJ 400, you could still learn and understand how to play on CDJ'S, and once you get into the XDJ range, it is a seamless transition into the club standard CDJ 3000's. CDJ's are the industry standard and I don't see it changing and I encourage anyone who is learning to be a DJ to get used to the pioneer ecosystem because if you have aspirations to play out to crowds in venues, most venues have a pioneer setup, with the bigger budget clubs and festivals using the latest CDJ 3000. These tips are really good by the way, very helpful for those that have come from controllers and other equipment.

Ive been searching for a channel like this for years. REALLY breaking down the differences of controllers to cdjs. This is amazing thank you so much!!!
If you want to use your hot cue like a gated cue instead of like a trigger, press down the jogwheel firmly, then tap your hot cue while still holding the wheel down. You should now be at the hot cue position but the track should not play. Hit the cue button, then release the jog wheel. Now you have set your cue to your hot cue, and you can use it as a gated cue.
I adapted pretty well from using serato dj with controller to CDJS the only thing I didnt know was the gate cue. I might considered this setting in my Rekordbox since I do like how gate cue works oppose to hitting hot cue and the track just going. Thank you

Great video! I *might* play a set at the end of this month for this "open decks" event so this is really helpful! I found the CDJ mode stuttering-cue and the joy wheel speed-up the most surprizing features. 👌📝
@09:42 did you know you can also have gated hot cues on all CDJ that have hotcue buttons? Just set the last hotcue at the end of the track (the silent part), trigger that last hotcue, turn on slip, and then all the other hotcue buttons become gated hotcues like in Serato (or the XDJ-RX3 or using Rekordbox with a controller with gated hotcues turned on in the settings).

As far as leaving it on, if they didn't set up the DSP correctly which is on them than yea you could damage the amps and even speakers depending on how it was calibrated In some venues they under power their speakers so in that case you wouldn't really damage the speakers themselves. And the reason they do that is because their incompetent in their "profession" Typically the way it works is you match the max dbu values between the mixer and DSP('s), so if you have lets say a djm mixer that goes up to +26 dbu, but a dsp that goes up to +28 dbu on its input, then it would be logical to set the limiter at +26 dbu or -2dbfs depending on what unit the dsp uses. The same is done between the DSP('s) and amplifiers. Lets say your dsp output is +23 dbu but your amp input sensitivity is +21 dbu. You'd go on your amp and turn it down by 2 db to match the dbu difference. Once the dbu values are configured you find out the continues wattage of your speaker and the rated wattage of your amp. Lets say you have a Q1212 with an output of 550 watts at 8 ohms, and your speaker is 500 watts at 8 ohms. you have a difference of 50 watts, something to keep in mind is the speaker in this case can peak at 2000 watts so in that case we would set an averaging limiter so only continues/average/RMS (you pick your terminology) will get attenuated while letting the dynamics though. So to do the math we know our output is 550 but our continues is 500 so we do 10 x Log(500/550) = -0.4139 or -0.5 db to be safe. We set that values as our threshold either as dbfs which would be -0.5 or as dbu which is your max dbu value minus 0.5 db. Hope this all helps you understand how sound systems are configured and this is only barely scratching the surface, but these are the fundamentals.
1:29 I'm fairly sure, although it's been years since I used top end CDJ's - you can do this in the inner ring of the CDJ-3000, 2000, 1000mk3, 1000mk2 and 1000. Also, my CDJ-350 do work like this. Your assumption that a CDJ is a CDJ-3000 is just completely false. It could be a CDJ-500 from 1994. That is a CDJ.

Hi man! As u said, u can use your laptop to record, but if I have 2 CDJ1000 and a xone92 am I able to record, if so, can u give me a hint? I can't find anything online! Thanks. *I know i can do it using a special piece of hardware named recorder but I don't have it rn*
Which usb flash drive are you using? Brand name, model, capacity?
As far as leaving it on, if they didn't set up the DSP correctly which is on them than yea you could damage the amps and even speakers depending on how it was calibrated
In some venues they under power their speakers so in that case you wouldn't really damage the speakers themselves. And the reason they do that is because their incompetent in their "profession"
Typically the way it works is you match the max dbu values between the mixer and DSP('s), so if you have lets say a djm mixer that goes up to +26 dbu, but a dsp that goes up to +28 dbu on its input, then it would be logical to set the limiter at +26 dbu or -2dbfs depending on what unit the dsp uses.
Crazy why they don't allow you change to Gate Hotcues in the Utilities or as an option when your setting up your Sticks ect. Madness LOL
How do you listen on your headphones on cdjs?
1:29 I'm fairly sure, although it's been years since I used top end CDJ's - you can do this in the inner ring of the CDJ-3000, 2000, 1000mk3, 1000mk2 and 1000.
Also, my CDJ-350 do work like this.
Your assumption that a CDJ is a CDJ-3000 is just completely false. It could be a CDJ-500 from 1994. That is a CDJ.
WAIT WAIT WAIT ... ON THE CDJ SCREEN, ON THE TOP ... IS THAT A BEATMATCH LINE ? LIKE ONE IN REKORDBOX ?
Awesome you are, thank you
Thanks!
What is the best software to transfer your library from traktor to Rekordbox?

Dear cross fader ... you talked about recording the sets in this vedio in a very interesting way ... I have a question: I'm using cdj 3000 with djm s11 how can I record on the computer (im using windows ) ? Where should I contact the USB port ?
Thank you so much man
Very helpful
