The casting for this movie was perfect.
I thought the lead guy was Charlie Sheen for half my life.
Well, that may be. But at least I never slept with Lumbergh
@@gonzee83😂🤣
xcept for the indian fellow why was he there again
Mmm Yeah, If you could just go ahead and make an Office Space 2 Mike Judge, That would be Great!
Well we would need those tps reports, first.
Uhh, yeah... I'm gonna have to go ahead and sorta disagree with you there
But... but.. I didn't get my paycheck this week..
and if you could do that as soon as possible, that'd be terrific, mmk? thanx...
FKTHD Mmm yeah, just go ahead and talk to payroll about that. Mkay
As great as Office Space is, it wouldn't half the movie without Gary Cole. Talk about unappreciated genius.
+Tye Wolfe Idk.. the guy who played Peter's other boss (the one who comes and talks to him about the TPS reports right after Lumbergh) was pretty damn good too, and Mike Judge could've done it even.. You can see he has the ability to when you watch his performance as the Chotchkie's manager
What can I say, you are right. Cole admitted to imitating Mike Judge especially with his "ooh, I am not sure I agree with you there."
+Tye Wolfe yes, this actor almost made this movie
Yyyeeeeeeaaaaaah.
So you're saying he was unappreciated for how he makes people feel unappreciated.
He played that role so goddamn well. You couldn't help but hate his character, that is how you know you did a stellar job.
He gives so much credit to Mike Judge, but Gary Cole took the original and made it 5 times more funnier. what a humble dude.
yeahh
He should have won an academy award for best actor in a comedy. Absolute genius.
Academy doesn't reware comedians (except for Marisa Tomei) for Oscars.
Lumbergh LITERALLY was the personification (looks, mannerism, voice, all of it) of my first Corporate boss... minus the suspenders. This is an absolute TRUE story. The guy I'm referencing was our VP, and he received a Holiday meat-and-cheese tray from one of our vendors. This is going back 30+ years. Of course, he and the rest of Administration were on the ground floor. Shortly before 4:00, this guy - who could have been Lumbergh's twin - brought the tray upstairs and made an announcement. He said "We got this from XXXX, who - as you know - is one of our great partners. Anyway, I wanted to share it with the Engineering and Technical group.... so, Enjoy, and Happy Holidays." Then he placed the tray - which looked like it had been consumed by wild dogs - on one of the corner tables... and he left. This was WAY before cell-phones or cameras, but one of our engineers literally filmed him from the window, leaving the parking lot in his Mazda Miata (that oughta give you a time reference) and PEELING OUT into the street. If I live to be 150 years old, I'll never forget the Engineering Administrative Assistant picking up the tray, saying "Merry Christmas everyone", and dropping it into the garbage. The first time I watched Office Space, and saw the birthday cake scene, it was like I was in a time-machine. These people actually exist - or, at least, they used to. It's a different economy nowadays.
Suspenders would have at least made your ex boss a little cooler 🤣
This might be the best thing I've ever read on the UA-cam.
If it makes you feel better he probably was a total loser who probably had a cheating wife and bratty kids and just liked picking on people to make himself feel better.
Nah, it's the same, but without more formal attire.
The term is NPC. That's what these people are, NPCs. You meet some every now and then and you're left dumbstruck every time.
Lumberg's proper reaction to seeing his Porsche being towed away, would've been something like: "Sscchh! Oooh! Yeah, that's not great". Sips his coffee and walks away.
“I’m gonna have to go ahead and sort of, get a new bumper. Yeaaaah…”
@@georgebaggy Lumberg, calls on a flip phone from the parking lot: "So, if you can pick up the car from the tow yard and have it ready at your body shop by Saturday, that would be great". Always delegating work.
One of the most understated and underrated comedic performances in cinema history. His character is now an indelible part of our culture.
Best part of the movie: When Peter dreams about Lumberg and Aniston in bed, notice Lumberg still had the Coffee Mug in the his hand as he was sticking it to Aniston.
And then he goes: "Oh, Hey Peter. What's happening?"
I laughed at that for years.
"If you could just move a little to the left, that'd be great"
@@zylaxis perrrrrrrfect
That was the funniest scene in movie history in my opinion he's drinking his coffee. A leg in one hand and coffee mug in the other. Comic genius. Peter, what's haaaappening
Holy shit 11 year old comment
"I'm gonna need those TPS Reports on my desk A-SAP."
His "bed scene" was the pinnacle of the film.
Movies can rarely even make me blow air through nose, but THAT made me gasp - it's perfect.
My brother worked for a small tech start up that morphed into a software giant back around the same time frame as this movie came out. The number two guy's background was in accounting and acquisitions and he looked, talked (and acted) like Lundbergh. He didn't have a clue when it came to day to day ops but he was always in the office gumming up the works, which did wonders for morale and efficiency. Great clip.
He did it perfectly - it's great acting when it's burned in my memory forever.
There is something very approachable and likeable about Gary Cole which he brings to all of his roles. Of course, Lumberg was perhaps his LEAST approachable character but, at the same time...we have ALL worked for a Lumberg. He said one sentence and was on the screen for 10 seconds and we are ALL thinking of that person we knew who was our own personal Lumberg. Acting requires all the personalities we can harvest from humanity and yet there is a singular appeal from Gary Cole that is indeed unique. Thank you so much for sharing this, AFI! :)
i like when he checks his voice mail and he keeps saying, "YA HI, YAAA HI"
...classic
"We're starting at the uuuuuusual time today, it's not a half day or anything like that"
@@zylaxis "I just stepped away to go to the bathroom and thought you may have called"
Gary never gets his due. I don’t think office space would have been as good if Gary had never taken that role but the whole movie was so well cast. Gary was also really good in entourage for the few episodes he was on there.
"One channel"...wow there could not have been a more accurate depiction of Lumberg's emotional tempo!! Cole is awesome!
Gary Cole was hilarious in Talledega Nights. If you aint first you're last.
I think every office has a Bill Lumberg...Lmao
blkqbano78 That's why the character resonates with people still to this day. We've all had dealings with someone like Lumbergh at least once in our lives whether professional or personal.
alucard624 There is always that one dick of a manager with his passive aggressive bullshit.
I literally worked with in an area with a middle manager who looked just like Gary Cole/Lumbergh... and he literally went around standing over people's cubes like that. Unfortunately/fortunately he was a pretty dude still was freakin' funny to watch.
We don’t have Limburgs, but we sure have a lot of Tom’s
@@sgtgiggles , true, but none of them had me thinking of a "Jump to Conclusions" mat. If that were to be the case, I'd quit that certain job a long time ago.
That was the funniest scene in movie history in my opinion he's drinking his coffee. A leg in one hand and coffee mug in the other. Comic genius. Peter, what's haaaappening
one of the all time best, no doubt
An over reaction to getting his Porsche towed would have been out of character for Lumberg - I'd glad they left it out.
Yes agreed, Lumbergh cannot be shown flustered, a porche is nothing to him, TPS reports are everythinG, LOL!
I've never seen a movie with so many office stereotypes so perfectly portrayed. Every character in this movie was perfect.
Gary Cole is a very versatile actor. He’s great at playing a psycho murderer and great in Comedic roles too.
Yeeaaah,. If you could finish the TPS reports for Monday that would be great
"no I have the memo right he-"
"Great" (walks away)
Cole can do it all, he's hilarious in Office Space, Dodgeball and the Brady Bunch movies. Great in dramatic roles like A Simple Plan and Breach.
Talladega Nights too lol
Midnight caller
Comedies and playing Murderers. He does both equally well. “Fatal Vision” and “Simple Plan” compared to “Dodgeball” and “Talladega nights” Characters couldn’t be more Different
Nails it in on every level!
Yeahhh, if you could just go ahead and watch this ad before you watch this video, that would be great. Thanks!
You see, we're watching thirty seconds of advertisement before we watch videos now. So if you could just do that for me, that would be terrific.
Tyler James Newton Only if its one of the new Gary Cole Lumberg commercials from Atlassian...
I could set the youtube on fire...
media.eremedia.com/uploads/2013/05/15175348/Office-Space-Milton.jpg
haha! you're great
Tyler James Newton ....and if you would NOT SKIP the ad, that would be great
Gary Cole is one of the best while also being one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood today.
Hey Mike, "Can we get two or more subsequent movies to "Office Space"? That would be gray-ay-ayte."
Saw the movie when it came out. Bought the DVD and have watched it many times; always funny. I bust-a-gut when Lumbergh enters a scene 'cause I know what's coming. Thank-you-Gary-Cole!
One of the best roles ever played by anyone.
Best BOSS role, imo. You look at him, and wonder in all the jobs you had in your life, did you ever work for a guy, or girl, that was reminiscent of Bill Lundberg. High probability that you did.
The way you know this guy did a great job is how strongly you react to him. I hated his guts practically. That just proves he nailed it. Genius.
Gary Cole made that movie. Lumbergh was pure genius.
Fantastic movie 🍿. I would recommend it to anyone!!!
Gotta love that hesitant "yeah". Great movie!
One of the best movies I ever seen
Gary Cole was amazing as Ricky Bobby's father in that movie
Lumbergh is a legend. Didn't realize it was Gary Cole, I saw him in stuff previous to Office Space.
Gary Cole, "What's happening?"!!!.
Watch, "A Simple Plan," to see a different side of Gary Cole's acting ability. Another great movie!
Jeff Brown, thats an underrated gem of a film.
How about American Gothic? Cole was amazing in that series.
Fine actor. He was amazing in Taladega Nights.
Yeah...if you could go ahead and read this on Bill Lumbergh's voice, that'd be great. Mmmkay?
Hilarious
Ter-ri-fic.
memorable role for Gary !
love gary cole!
If you like Gary Cole I would recommend his earlier work in a weekly TV drama series called 'Midnight Caller'. Gary played the part of a San Francisco radio talk show host answering calls at night, and trying to help the callers in the day. The show dealt with some pretty hard-hitting stuff like reverse racism and losing people to aids, and it made great use of location shots of the bay area. It did however seem to lose track a little during the final season. To be honest it's one of the reasons I went there after watching the show and loved almost every minute; the city by the bay turned out to be everything I expected it to be and so much more..whether it's the same today I'm not so sure. I liked how Gary always seems to put his heart and soul into whatever he does, as if it were really him in that situation. His boss as played by Wendy Kilbourne was also pretty damn hot (man I wish I'd have met her for coffee in Frisco lol). I think Gary is a very versatile actor and a great guy both on and off the screen.
Yes! He was great in that! The first thing I ever saw him in was Fatal Vision, based on the real life murder of a pregnant woman & her 2 small children, most likely by her army surgeon husband Jeffrey MacDonald, who claimed that drugged hippies much like the Manson gang murdered them. He was a charismatic & attractive man, whose charm & intellect hid a mountain of pathologies, drug abuse & narcissism. Even his father-in-law was his biggest defender until he began to see his version of events had serious consistencies. Cole did a brilliant job of playing a man for whom image is everything & who was capable of mimicking empathy & hiding his sociopathy behind the facade he had created. I flip-flop all the time on Mac Donald's guilt, & I did so watching this movie. Cole made you understand how some people would swear Jeff was not capable of such horrors, while others were able to see him as a monster. When an actor creates the same kind of conflicted feelings about the person he is portraying, that is some serious acting chops. Like Christian Bale in American Psycho, the more I saw of Cole's MacDonald, the less I felt I knew the 'real' him. Don't know if the tv movie is easy to track down, but if anyone wants to see a great early role for Gary Cole, if you do come across it it's worth checking out.
Even his work in the Brady Bunch reboot movies was on the money.
Gary, you nailed it!!!
I laugh just watching your facial expressions!!! Like you said, there is NO WAY to reach Lumbergh! Everyone has had a boss like that guy!
So....uuummmm.....yyyeeeaaahhhh....you were great! Thanks for the laughs, Gary!
Gary Cole is one of the great underrated actors.
Legend.
"on his water ski"
Yes!
I put this brilliant film in my list of 1999 movies that defined the end of the century, together with American Beauty, The Matrix, Fightclub, Magnolia and Being John Malkovich. An underrated masterpiece that has it's cult following well deserved!!
Good list! I would add America Pie and Blair Witch Project
Yep. The one movie I still enjoy watching again and again.
Bill Lumbergh is right up there with any iconic movie character you can name, only the movie isn't a blockbuster so the whole world doesn't know it. Bravo, Gary Cole! What a talent, what a movie. I was just talking with my neighbor, and I don't know how we got on the subject but winning the Powerball came up, and what we would each do with the money. Both of us at said simultaneously, "Two chicks at the same time, man."
I agree, we need an Office Space Sequel. I’m a Fan! Jonny Weiss “Love.” 🎶
he is still sooo cute;)
Cole fucking NAILED that role.
Love this film.
He even upset "The Bobs" 😆 LOL
Such a classic
I loved watching this movie and then Pineapple Express... lol
"I'll take the case!" He was great as Harvey Birdman too.
That's all I know him from. Need to check out his live-action work now
I was in this theater to watch Ikiru a few weeks ago. It was fantastic.
I didn't realize he was Ted from Pineapple Express till I squinted my eyes heh.
I work in a corporate office myself and whenever we have meetings on MS Teams I make sure lumberg meme is put on the chat and everyone goes laughing ☠️
Great movie, I laught so so so much like no other movie.
I can imagine the scene where Lumbergh discovers the bumper of his Porsche in the parking lot. Instead of freaking out I see him rigidly walking over, stopping staring at the bumper on the asphalt for about 5 seconds and then say, 'Riiight....'
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH
That would be great.
I'm not gonna lie my first corporate boss was definitely a Lumbergh. Had the whole glasses and "Yeah, if you could do this that would be great" motto. Work is Hell.
Yeah this interview is great and all but if I could get those tps reports before Friday that’d be great
what's happening?
Oh shit! I totally forgot that Gary Cole was Mr Lumbergh in Office Space, which I saw in the theater!
"Office Space 2 - Rehired" "Office Space 2 - Cubicle Expansion" Mike Judge come on do it!!
+iamknosound that would be awesome! Just imagine the possibilities. But
iamknosound1, you know what I think could and probably would ruin it? Hollywood today, from the effects to the actors, to the scripts. I wish there was a film of this nature that would prove otherwise but they seem to be few and far between, as if all the actors are basically stupid and under-acting, and all answering to the tune of a propaganda machine.
I can watch Office Space time and time again, it's like a fine wine that never ages.. In contrast, I find that most modern films leave a sour taste in the mouth that one would hardly ever want to sample more than once. Others might have a different view, but I prefer older films such as 70's and 80's titles, and I'd much rather not see a sequel than see one that trashes all over it's predecessor. But I like your idea mknosound.. I think the fans of this film could literally come up with a script in next to no time :)
+QuadTubeChannel I understand how you feel 100%, but I think if Mike Judge does it, and have full control over it I think it would be an awesome sequel. There are great sequels but yes they are few and far between. Most movies no days suck majorly, so it might just be best to leave this Classic be..... :) Whenever work pisses me off, I watch this movie and it makes me laugh at the fools in the Office. haha.
iamknosound
Uh...he did make a sequel to Office Space. It's called "Silicon Valley".
davey givens I was just about to say the same thing!
Were actually using the new coversheets now, so if you could go ahead and do that from now on, thatd be greeeaat...
He is a smart guy
Akin to matthew mcconaughey in the wolf of wall street. They only did a couple of scenes but totally nailed it.
Best character in the movie
ohh yeahh
yeaaaa
Oh Oh Oh Oh
Cole is such a terrific actor, i thought he was the only one who made the Brady Bunch movie bearable.
I worked in a cubicle for years in an IT department, and I saw more than one Lumbergh during that time.
I always think of Lumberg every morning at work when I walk to my desk from the break room holding my coffee mug.
i was in love with him in 1995-1998 b/c he was hot playing in american gothic!but hes aged a lot now!but hes still cute
Makes sense.
Yes make a part 2 mmmmk?
Cole was so genius in that character that I cannot watch him in any film now, because I see Lumbergh as soon as I see his face. And he made me hate Lumbergh that much. I'm obviously not the only one. He's in a freaking commercial that has nothing to do with him, in character, and they don't have to explain a thing. Everyone knows it's Lumbergh.
I liked him as lawyer in Law and ORder SVU
and also as ROck Star Dad on Disney channell
Gary Cole as Bill Lumbergh might as well have been pushing with him at the office an intravenous drip of lean mixture. It wasn't there with him in the scenes but it feels like it is with him anyway.
Ooohhh....yeah..
GREAT MOVIE! My x boss was lumburgh?
That'd be great
the power of ATTORNEY
Gary Cole was great but imagine if they'd cast Gary ColeMAN!!!
What chew tawking about, Peter?
I'm gonna need you to go ahead and accept my thanks for correcting my mistake.
someone should cast gary cole as the role of john carmack.. if they ever made a movie about him...
Apology accepted, and might I add a very
cool thing to do, I mean, who apologizes anymore?
Very cool, and much respect :)
Didn't you get that memo?
BEST PART of that movie man!! HA!!!!
"If things go well I might be showing her my OH-face....OH-OH-OH!you know what im talking about...."
He would have said “Yeah… That’s a problem” and taking a sip of his coffee.
Awesome. lol
