- Metallica and Lou Reed perform "Sweet Jane" at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary shows

The lowered main riff, the recurring guitar solo, Lars randomly syncopating stuff and even Reed's improvised vocal melodies, this version is stupid good. Masterpiece.
What an epic tribute to a legend while he was still alive. You can see how the band played to him as much as they played with him!
In this video, they all seem to respect Lou very much, & be excited to play with him, that's 4Sure!! I Love both Metallica & Lou Reed - & this performance was like a 1 take perfect shot, splitting the arrow ALREADY in the bullseye.
I counted four times that Kirk made goo goo eyes at Lou.
A lot of people don’t like this, I happen to think it’s an absolute masterpiece, fantastic collaboration !!!
A lot of people are very dumb.
If you look closely at the video it is very clear that all the folks In Metallica really respect Lou. You see all of them looking to Lou and smiling. Great tribute.
Watch how respectful James is by waiting on Lou to finish his verses which he’s uniquely changing sporadically in his usual bad ass fashion. He never tried to show him up. Class act!
Helping the elderly and his hair piece too

these negative comments. ..wtf....lou is a fckn legend....all musicians do this , to have the privilege, to honor our mentors
Mike Kearns exactly
@@VinnyBarbarino1369 turn around and just walk awey
The haters can kiss my ass. This is rock n roll at it's best. RIP lou
Anybody who rips Lou on this thread is hereby Banished for Life for the Crime of Being Utterly Clueless regarding anything having to do with music.
Lou indeed is a f***ing legend but this is just as bestial an abomination. Sorry. :)
It's very rare to see Lou smiling while he plays... Here he smiles. Says all!
ANother handicap thinking he was anything but a one hit wonder
His music was never about hits lmao
I will always respect Metallica for collaborating with Lou. They caught some whining from fans but this stuff is part of music history.
Heloing the handicapped
@@larryheebowitz4140 Child abuse is a handicap. It can lead to talent. Sex, drugs, rock 'n roll, Baby.
Are you tripping?
Well Yoko Ono was part of music history as well but that doesn’t make it great lol
these talented musicians just wanted to have the opportunity to play with this guy on stage, for an educated audience that was familiar with both of them. it was pleasing to see and hear a superior hard edge rock band assist lou return to his early days one last time.. to the negative comments---- "if you write books nobody reads you"
exactly
I thought it went something like "if you write books that nobody reads.... are you really a writer" ...?
@@donarthiazi2443 I think Lou said it more like how Stephen said on the Take No Prisoners live album.
Look at Lou's eyes. There's a moment when he realises he's in the driver's seat of a V12. He looks like the happiest boy on earth. It's beautiful.
Exactly! I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that--except that I thought of it as being at the wheel of a Hellcat. ; )
You got that right. I had to go back and watch again to see it, thanks...........
Nice metaphor :-)
Well said dude
You mean at around 2:30-2:45? Sure seemed they loved playing together given how they looked at each other.
RIP Lou. My life was saved by rock n' roll!
That’s two of us sis.
Make three
For sure ❤️
Isn’t Lou beautiful ❤️
He’s smiling all over the place, having a great time, killing the F out of it! Best song ever by the best artist ever.
Lou Reed is a legend. The man has influenced so many bands it's ridiculous.
Which bands ?
@@mrpepper836 My band and your band
@@mattiassvanberg8292 So no real bands just a made up saying to make someone who passed away sound more influential?
@@mrpepper836 The legend is Velvet Underground's first album didn't sell very well - barely at all - and the saying is every one who bought the first pressings started their own bands. Therefore they call it the most influental rock album of all time. Especially the punk rock movement were inspired by The Velvet Underground. I don't like everyone of Lou Reed's solo album, but the Velvet Underground are absolute legends.
@@mrpepper836 all the bands that matter
7 years and we still missing him...
Who is he? ANother Rabinowitz trying t leech to the end.
10yrs now, & YES - Still Missing Lou very much to this day!!
2022 and still goosebumps! Legends!
This riff is as important to Rock & Roll as the riff to Smoke on the Water... It is the foundation of Rock music
Today by SP borrowed the chords for the verse.
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well said, totally agree with that.
@@paulmcgrath6118 what do you mean how? Try listening to each one and note the similar sequence. Fuuuuuuck...
@@paulmcgrath6118 it’s V-II-I. Stop shitting the bed.
i used to think everyone was booing Lou: they werent, I was told that's how Lou's fans greet him! I was so relieved.
Yea it's kinda like "Primus sucks"
The horror good they didn't buu him. He is a legend 😑
Loooooooooou!!
It's Louuuuuu!!!!! Just like Bruuuuuce!!!
They were booing his dried up old a55. He was a dinosaur who shamefully bothered James to bring himself back fro the 60s. ANd tha thair piece
Rock-N-Roll Animal is an amazing album - the intro to Sweet Jane is pure guitar harmony.
Great version of Sweet Jane! Both Lou Reed & Metallica at the top of their game. Please, if you don't understand Rock n' Roll and the importance of the Velvet underground on contemporary music, don't make any comment. We don't need you around anyhow.
Damn right!
@Evonne Canete It's a scam -_-
I'm just grateful Metalica is playing in time
true
It's still great to have Lou Reed AND Metallica together. And "Sweet Jane" is such a great song.
Damn I love Lou Reed’s jams like everyday!!! So cool seeing Metallica being the back up.. 🤟🏽👏🦸♂️😳 Sweet Jane is on my top 5!!
I dig it...back to roots with Metallica...the metal before Metallica...and Lou Reed's blues rock. All the haters...when Lou Reed tells you to play a song with him, you f'n DO IT!!!
Heavy punch of this version! Fantastic! Long live Rock"n Lou!
What a great cover. Metallica is a class act playing this song with the legend himself.
Metallica just did an Elton John song. It’s quite good
Classic. Please share with the youth.
I agree with THAT 100%. Good music is good music, & if you play it for your kids, neices/nephews (& their friends) to hear, they will feel that groove, & this song can go on at least another 80 years!! Long after I'M gone anyways - LOL!!
One of my ALL TIME favorite songs! Have loved Lou from the very beginning! But us, us we gotta work!
love lou. Heavy Jane!
Lou Reed is the true king of rock 'n roll
I became a fan of Metallica in 86, as a friend jammed MoP via casette tape as we staked his half pipe. No better song to skate to. If any of you guys here knew anything about Cliff Burton you'd know he was a fan of bands you wouldn't think he nor Metallic would be into. REM, Simon & Garfunkel and yes Lou Reed! Take this for what it is - Metallic jamming with a friend. Musical differences aside, its about celebrating music and friends.
A little late with this reply, but I don’t see any differences. Metallica and Lou Reed are both heart of rock ‘n’ roll.
Love this so much
I didn’t expect this to be that good when I pulled it up. Nice job.
Lou Reed, cómo se te echa de menos!
so awesome love this
Trust me Metallica know how much of legend Lou Reed. Most musicians these days are not even fit to tie his shoelaces if he was alive 💪💪💪RIP Lou
it is still a great classic song from the day!
Good stuff right there...
A real tribute from the metal gods to the members of the “Rock And Roll Animal” band and to the man who saved us all from an ordinary life. 💖😎
Well said!!
This is awesome! Thanks for posting it.
Such wonderful harmony.
Sweet ..... always loved this song
Metallica did this and lulu for MR REED! They showed respect to a hero and a legend. If you can’t get past that then go listen to Ricky Martin
Yes Len!!!
Lulu was wasted potential thanks to Lou Reed's awkwardness and unnecessary need to be different. Lulu SUCKED!!!
Just because something is done with good intent doesnt mean it has to be good. Blindly liking an album just because it has a great musician on it is idiotic. It doesnt matter whether Lou Reed or mfing Fred Durst was on the album, you should judge it the same way.
@Hammerschlägen M Not really into Latin music, but I'm sure it's better than this
@Hammerschlägen M Did not. Like I said, I'm not familiar with Latin music, I assumed you were giving a genuine recommendation.
This is beyond awesome! Thank you!
Great song. One of the best renditions. Turn it up.
It DOES sound really good when played really LOUD!!
... que hermoso ver a Lou, volver a tocar !!!!...
This is rock 'n roll
Rock on Lou!!
You must have posted not long B4 he passed!! Still - wherever he is, I'm sure he's still rockin'!!
Amazing performance and most important of all thanks to this we got one of my favourite albums, Lulu
I love this collaboration.
It DID work out very well, A 1 time perfect take!!
Beautiful!
Love this
love it!
New respect for Metallica 🎉
RIP Lou. You will be missed
actually a pretty cool jam and besides metallica doesn’t care if you don’t like it ...
This is LOU REED, one of the aleternate rock inventors...!!!! If you like ANT trype rock...you got to love this guy... Credit to Metallica for seeing that!!!!
One hit wonder
Perfect blend. Rock on.
Great Remember
OMG LOVE THIS-
god bless you my freind you give a lot of great music you are missed 10-4
Best 5:06 today.... maybe all week. Lou and Metallica are giants.
Fantastic version of SJ. Thanks for all the music Lou. "My life was saved by Rock n Roll!"
I can feel full respect to Mr.Lou Reed.
I love the respect Metallica has for Lou, and vice versa. It was an important connection, on both parts. Love it.
stop saying Lou sucks, obviously Metallica understands the contribution that Lou has made to all music in general. And of course his voice isn't what it used to be but he is none the less a great musician. I can play all of Lou's stuff, but never in hell could i write any of it.
This man was forgotten, not by me, Respect to Metallica to do this.
Forgotten by whom no he was not
Incredible......
Best concert I've ever been to
Metallica and Lou Reed, mindblown. Metallica is blessed with everything!! So on point, the idea of Lulu album is spot on.
Wow! Just...WOW!!

RIP LOU REED XXXXXX
I always, always loved Sweet Jane. But honestly haven't heard a lot of good live versions by Lou. Now, Im not into Metallica really, but this just sounds cool. I somehow think Lars' helpless drumming, alongside the bands distorted instruments...it sounds badass, man!
Very!
Total music lou reed xxx
Just seeing Lou smile makes me happy. If only Lars could still play.
Iv got worser versions on my page soon
You could see he was trying SO hard.
big ups to Metallica for raising Lou up in his last days with us.
Taniwha Sutherland raising him up? I love metallica but lou has always been ahead of them.
@@Dead80Head 😄😃😅 .. exactly .. by miles 👍👍👍... one of most influencial musicians of the last 50yrs ... im 60 and seen lou and have most his records ... people that rubbish him or very small minded .... lot of music today was because of the Velvet Underground .. even though he sorta got fired from his own group .. the master of beautiful dark street lyrics .. a great lyrical story teller ....
@@mikes6970
That's not what the OP meant. They're well aware their place in the annals of music is below Lou.
But at the time Lou Reed was not doing anything. Maybe kinda stagnant. Hell maybe he was simply tired(those days from all that partying had to have taken their toll lol).
They were just honoring a man they greatly admired and providing a huge stage for him to once again showcase whatever he had left. The fans loved it.
Well, the educated ones anyway.
EMbarrassing. ANother who cant take the hint and get off stage. Embarrassing
This was awesome
Hell yes!!!
he can't help it. As a teenager he was forced to go through two weeks of shock therapy and he's sounded this way ever since
Great Song. Now and forever. It was a piece of a generation. ❤
The best version ever!
Lou and Metallica doesn't get any better than that. Lou Reed is Rock n Roll. The VU did more for kids in their garage than anyone!
No one boowed Lou ,they shouted LOU its sounds like boo but anyone with half a brain knows that Lou is the man and the King of New York!
I think You could get tossed in jail for a night if you were BOOING Lou Reed in N.Y.C.!!
come on people these are both talented artists this is a one in a life time chance to see this it is good music
Yep - A ONE time perfect take!! It's simply "beautiful"!!
Oo THEY WERE AMAZING!
I liked this...a lot.
I fickn love Lou!!!
I really enjoyed this performance. Cool groove, cool song, cool vocals but I really think Kirk stole the show with that guitar work..nice...
Yeah gotta love out of tune bends and wanky vibrato.
@@SteveBownMusic my thoughts exactly
I don’t how this all came together but I think Lou Reed is cooler than all of Metallica combined. And Kirk ripping the same lick five times in a row didn’t do it for me. 😂
@@matthewsolina4920
As a guitarist, I found that to be offensive guitar playing. Would've worked better with no soloing.
My hats off to meticallica for the performance was an explanatory jester towards a GOD of Rock whom brought u our metal GOD'S as well...groovy baby!!!!!🌴😎✌
É simplesmente demais!!!
Bellissimo!
Agreed ❤
This is literally the reason we Metallica fans have the album with Lou Reed. Lars said to Lou after this happened "Hey give me a call sometime and we'll see about doing an album" three weeks later.... Lou said to him in the phone call "So about that album you were talking about the other day...." and the rest is history!
1:40-1:53 real tears fell 🤟🏽
Totally agree this is a great version . Only other as good , in my opinion is the one on Rock n Roll Animal from the 70s
This is as good as it gets
Rest in Peace Lou Reed
Rip Lou ❤❤❤from Texas
I just finished an interview/podcast with James and the lady question was all about this.
I don’t know much about Lou Reed, but now I’m interested and intrigued
Ficou demais essa versão com Metallica!!!
