I was there in the 8th row for this, 17 years old and a senior in high school. Hell of a thing to see live. He and Al Green absolutely nailed it that night. Johnny Cash, too.
Sweet Jane is a great Rock song...this is a great version...check out the version on Lou's album Rock and Roll Animal...that is a great live Lou Reed rock and roll album.
@@andshewas296 so do talking heads ... seen them live .. just like lou .... and yes r n r animal is one of greatest albums ever produced live ... with the tour opener with hunter , wagner dueling intro on sweet jane ... intro done for the r n r animal tour only ... one best intros in music history ... you have exceptional tatse in music .... may i suggest ... roy buchanan as well .... if you havent heard him before ...
Talk about a bunch of people here selling Soul Asylum short. Their legacy isn't their couple of mainstream hits. Their Twin-Tone records output is legendary, and they fit prominently into the Minneapolis music scene that gave us Husker Du and The Replacements..
I remember Guitarist Mick Ronson saying he was getting ready to record a song on the Transformer Album and Lou was just strumming on an obviously out of tune acoustic guitar and Mick waited until Lou put the Guitar down so Mick could try to Tune it. Reed told Ronson don’t worry it sounds fine So yes Reed didn’t give 2 about his guitar being in tune. Just the Lyrics & the Songs.
Maybe the best live performance of my life. Lou, an original punk, stink eyes the members of Soul Asylum. If you don't know why, well you do not know punk and Rock and Roll
The 90s had this great energy of older glories from the past jamming with bands of 20 year olds. Notice how the musicians just took the stage with casual clothes. No need for much more than ass kicking rock n roll.
Lou was "That guy" but somewhat theatrical. BUT don't get it twisted he DEFINITELY WAS "THAT GUY". Legend, Genius. Looking down the Soul Asylum guys. That's Lou.
whatever people think of Lou Reed, the guy did carry this singanture tune allways in his career. Simple back beats used to perfection of a platform for others. Coybow Junkies for eaxample
Damn! Not only is this top shelf, but no one has given it a thumbs down. :-) That tells you right there that everyone who's watched this has damn good taste in music, I fuckin' LOVE that! :-) :-) ;-p
I guess Soul Asylum was good for a minute (bought their album in 96) but Lou Reed is a legend and this is a legendary song. I got to check it out (haven't watched).
Awesome. I miss Lou. NYC Man. I don't know if he wants to fight Soul Asylum, but you never knew with Lou. Such a badass. Since 1965, professionaly. He was always a badass 😎. Lou Reed was one of the coolest mf'ers ever. Wilt Chamberlain if Wilt was 5'9" 180 and white.
What a great looking dude lou was. Saw lou in his heroin days in Dayton, ohio. He was white as a sheet. Dressed in black. I believe hall and oates opened for him. Lou you are a Legend.
What a great performance this is Love the drive Classic 90s look for lou Performing along side these sort of 'grunge looking' dudes which im not familiar with The cracks in his voice Classic Another classic It's all classic ❤
When Lou sings " Sitting there by the fire" 1:57, he is indirectly saying to SOU ASYLUM, step the fuck up, you little BOYS. We are bring this song home, big time !!! Does anyone else get the same feeling?
I just got the feeling Lou was expecting a solo during the break just before the "some people like to go out dancing..." verse and he looked a little surprised that no one took it.
Yes, I know Lou's personality and have watched his entire career till death. He's Absolutely 💯 taking these boys too school. "FUCKING step up your game, son!" Obvious. Lou Reed was maybe wasn't the best, but demanded the best or you will get a guitar upside the head.No fucking around. Lou was a genius though 👏
Soul Asylum was an underrated band. They were all on fire here. Epic performance by all. Lou really let himself go here. Never saw him rock out like this.
Lo más cercano que veré de ver tocar a Lou Reed y Kurt Cobain juntos. Se que es un comentario estupido y que nadie lo leera, es solo que ambos son mis heroes
Metelica with Lou ? much better, where's the lead ? you have to play lead guitar with Sweet Jane ! the Velvet Underground and the concert at Berlin, Sweet Jane & rock and roll animal are the best
Reed wrote a good song. But this performance is dreadful. Original is some better. But THE COWBOYS JUNKIES' cover got me LOVING this song. Like it was made for them.
I don’t see how anyone can think that Soul Asylum did anything but a stellar job of doing justice to this iconic classic. Beats the RNR Animal version, if not up to the level of the Velvets’ (but what COULD be?).
Music can bring us together during these difficult times God Bless us all
Uplifting words brother
Lou Reed was a musical genius and will always be missed.

Dang, this is one of the best live performances of Sweet Jane I've seen, at least the highest quality
My favorite version of my favorite song.
playing Sweet Jane w/ Lou Reed had to be the greatest thing that ever happened to Soul Asylum, unbelievable song and performance for all
no shit now i look at them different
I agree! Fantastic song, and performance! Love it! R.I.P. Lou Reed…..
I am a huge fan of both and love this video. Soul Asylum played bigger shows around the world than Lou ever did.
Talk about a bunch of people here selling Soul Asylum short. Their legacy isn't their couple of mainstream hits. Their Twin-Tone records output is legendary, and they fit prominently into the Minneapolis music scene that gave us Husker Du and The Replacements..
FUK YEAH. CARRER highlight for "Soul Asylum ". Metallica also.
The most beautiful love story ever written. Thank you Lou.
Insanely great. Lou was a don’t give a fuck intellectual musician and I dig it
👍👍 the greatest ever ...
I remember Guitarist Mick Ronson saying he was getting ready to record a song on the Transformer Album and Lou was just strumming on an obviously out of tune acoustic guitar and Mick waited until Lou put the Guitar down so Mick could try to Tune it. Superb
One of the rare moments when Lou was in good mood. So what, he was a genius an the show was simply that good.
Lou was "That guy" but somewhat theatrical. BUT don't get it twisted he DEFINITELY WAS "THAT GUY". Legend, Genius. Looking down the Soul Asylum guys. That's Lou.
Hell yea!
Lou shouldve toured with this band, they sounded like Max's kansas city album
A helluva lot better than the Metallica bs.
Damn Lou kinda killed this one
RIP LOU
Now that's drumming!
Couldn't agree more. That was outstanding!
whatever people think of Lou Reed, the guy did carry this singanture tune allways in his career. Simple back beats used to perfection of a platform for others. Coybow Junkies for eaxample
A+++

I love you Dave..
The movie Train Spotting said it best (Fahken Lou Reeeed)
I guess Soul Asylum was good for a minute (bought their album in 96) but Lou Reed is a legend and this is a legendary song. I got to check it out (haven't watched).

I liked "Soul Asylum " ,but they aren't in the discussion with Lou Reed. Lou Reed is a Rock God!!!
Right on! Dave's touch definitely catches Lou's attention and love watching Lou's response... he just lets loose. Absolutely great performance✌️
lou..lou..
Almost 30yrs old
The song is originally 55 years old when he was fronting the Velvet Underground, 50 years, since he re released it as a solo artist.
RIP Lou
Lou takes no prisoners

0 dislikes. Goddamn right.
Lou Reed has a MIck Jagger look about him...
Sloppy as fuck. Perfect as hell.
Cousin ITT?
Why are they just adding this material?
Denny Michan to give us live music junkies our fix lol
Metelica with Lou ? much better, where's the lead ? you have to play lead guitar with Sweet Jane ! the Velvet Underground and the concert at Berlin, Sweet Jane & rock and roll animal are the best
Good stuff. But, Shitty camera work/Direction. I never saw the keyboard player but the Hammond Organ clone came thru in the mix.
Sounds a little less punk, which sounds good.
Reed wrote a good song. But this performance is dreadful. Original is some better. But THE COWBOYS JUNKIES' cover got me LOVING this song. Like it was made for them.
You have no joy in your life
Lou is great but... the band..is kind of bad.
I don’t see how anyone can think that Soul Asylum did anything but a stellar job of doing justice to this iconic classic. Beats the RNR Animal version, if not up to the level of the Velvets’ (but what COULD be?).
See an ENT specialist with the quickness.
Lou was off as usual. To many drugs and drink did him in.
Sorry but this isn’t singing.
