Funny how you say that Reconquest is a too long interlude. On Melancholy (previous album) they had a song called 'The Dreaded Mystic Abyss' and that's also an interlude, just 10 minutes long. But I absolutely love it. And these interludes are like their thing to put it every time near the end.
True, The Dreaded Mystic Abyss is amazing.
Bryce (the drummer) has been a drum teacher for many years before joining SoI... he's extremely underrated imo. Thanks again!
That’s sick!
Slaughter to Prevail, Lorna Shore, and Shadow of Intent has received my love for deathcore.
I was incredibly happy when I heard some of the parts in elegy part 2 and 3, especially when Chris just takes the rheins and goes where his crazy ass goes with those guitar leads. I just wish more of the album was like these moments. Overall it felt a little bit dull to me almost. Still a 8/10 for me, but not quite the insanely high level of melancholy and their previous works which were all basically a 10/10 for me. It's not just that I miss breakdowns cause I'm gonna be honest - I'm more of DM and not core guy to begin with, but moreso a combination of the following factors: Songs seem to have a more straight forward structure and are less progressive in general, the speed of the music is less dynamic, I guess less crazy changeups overall, the speed in general is slower, the sense of chaos is traded for a more tidy sound if that makes any sense, also Ben's vocals change less often and I feel like a lot of them are layered on top of each other, so one is growling and one is screaming, but in previous albums it was more of a distinct difference, which was appreciated. These are some of the things. Keep in mind I'm shit at formulating what I like/don't like and don't have knowledge of music theory or instruments, so sorry if I didn't describe something correctly.
Like I said I like the album, and I respect the hell out of them for doing something a bit different, it just wasn't my kind of different I guess. Still one of my top 5 bands of all time and one of the most exciting younger bands for sure. I sure hope I can catch them when they tour in Europe next time.
The whole Elegy 3 parter is epic. I just didn’t enjoy the amount of interlude there was from Reconquest starting to Elegy I: Adapt ending. For me that’s part of the reason the album didn’t get a higher rating, but that’s just me. I haven’t actually heard much SOI outside of this album so I do have a lot of catching up to do to really understand where you’re coming from, but I’m looking forward to seeing what they’re like especially from your description.
@@djentleeReacts You should 100% check out their other albums. I'd start with Melancholy, then do Reclaimer, then do Primordial, this way you kind of go in reverse order and see how they've evolved.
@@djentleeReacts So 1 year later, and after seeing them live 1 month and a bit ago, I've changed my mind. Now I appreciate how Elegy is different from the previous albums. What do you think? Or did you not listen to it again?
AOTY 2022!!
Incredible album! Thanks for the upload mate.
Life of Exile reminds me Chthonic Odyssey song. There's also 2 acoustic "breakdowns": after a solo and in the end
Love this album…such a masterpiece
This one is a really amazing album..SoI are on the top of the game for the Deathcore and Symphonic Death Metal bands as of now.
You should also check out Erebos by Venom Prison..amazing album as well
Hell yeah bro. Hope things are well with you! We haven't spoken in a while. I'm trying to get off of fb/Meta completely... I wouldn't trust Zuckerface as much as I could throw him! Lol.
@@XavierMacX hey bro! Thats a good thing to get away from so much crap.. I mostly use it for the music..
